What is gratitude?

Thankfulness, gratitude, and appreciation are all deeply connected, simply they all mean expressing the pleasant feeling of being thankful and appreciative for something one has received. The word gratitude comes from the Latin word gratus, which means “grateful, pleasant”. Not only is it something we feel and experience but, it is a tool we can use to reframe our perspective. Using gratitude as a tool allows you to shift your focus. From what you believe your reality is towards what you want your reality to be. They are both very real, but you choose to prioritize one over the other.

The Science behind gratitude

It turns out, the benefits of gratitude aren’t just motivational fluff you see on social media everywhere. Scientists have actually shown that gratitude can physically change your brain. This research made me realize that the mind’s ability to “rewire” itself—known as neuroplasticity (A term I Learned while in DBT) —plays a big role here. When we practice gratitude regularly, it strengthens certain neural pathways, just like exercising a muscle. In fact, gratitude activates regions in our brain linked to pleasure, reward, and emotional regulation, including the prefrontal cortex and the hypothalamus. Let’s dig into a bit of it now!

Practicing gratitude effects our brains by stimulating the production of dopamine (a chemical messenger (neurostransmitter) that works in the brain. It helps nerve cells send messages to each other. When dopamine is released in the brain, we feel a sense of temporary pleasure) and serotonin (another messenger which creates a long-lasting feeling of happiness or wellbeing), often referred to as the “feel-good neurotransmitters. These chemicals play a vital role in regulating mood and emotions. By regularly expressing gratitude through different ways in our lives, we essentially train our brains to produce more of these beneficial chemicals!

Researchers have discovered that expressing gratitude can also trigger the release of oxytocin, the hormone responsible for strengthening social bonds and creating feelings of trust and connection. So practicing gratitude not only improves our relationship with ourselves, but also enhances our ability to build and maintain meaningful connections with others and ourselves.

Historical Significance of Gratitude

Historically, the concept of gratitude isn’t new. Many ancient cultures emphasized the importance of thankfulness in their traditions and rituals. For example, the ancient Romans celebrated a festival called “Lectisternium” where they expressed gratitude to their gods for their blessings. The festival of Setsubun central in Japan and Shintoism is a time when they give thanks to the kami and the land for the spring and fertility to come. Plus pagans have many, many holidays centered around gratitude and giving thanks like Mabon, Samhain, Beltane, Hekate’s night, and so on! Honestly there are too many holidays centered on giving thanks to name. Similarly, every religion has holidays, and festivals that are centered around the act of giving thanks, We even have holidays centered around cultural and country specific reasons to give thanks like Thanksgiving in the USA, highlighting its timeless significance to our human existence.

Benefits to practicing gratitude

By dedicating just a few minutes each day to this practice, you can begin to experience a shift in your perspective. You’ll start to notice and appreciate the small joys that make life special, from a sunny day to a kind gesture from a stranger. Ultimately, this simple act of focusing on gratitude for a small pocket of time can lead to profound changes in your mindset and overall well-being like some of the benefits we will explore more below.

Gratitude aligns your with the flow of abundance

When we acknowledge and appreciate the blessings, big or small, that surround us, we invite abundance into our lives. Gratitude shifts our focus from what is lacking to what is plentiful, fostering a sense of contentment and fulfillment allowing us to enter into the flow of abundance. Once in the flow, we are able to connect to the generosity of the multiverse and have all of our needs met.

Gratitude creates a life attracting positivity

Practicing gratitude not only has a positive impact on our mental and emotional well-being but also attracts more positivity into our existence. By expressing thanks for the opportunities, relationships, and experiences we have encountered along our journey, we create space for greater joy and success to manifest. Embracing a mindset of gratitude transforms challenges into valuable lessons and setbacks into steppingstones toward growth and achievement.

Focusing on gratitude builds resilience

Gratitude and having a daily practice focused on it, can help individuals build resilience by encouraging them to find silver lining in challenging situations. When you’re able to see the good even in difficult times, you become more emotionally resilient and better equipped to cope with problems or life changing events as they arise. By acknowledging and appreciating the good, you develop a more balanced perspective, making it easier to cope with challenges by allowing you to access wise mind and use the DBT skills that will be the most effective.

Gratitude reframes our perspective

By focusing more on a habit of gratitude, you learn to reframe your thinking and concentrate on the positive aspects of your life. Our brains have a natural tendency to dwell on negativity, a phenomenon known as the negativity bias. It is an evolutionary survival mechanism that once served a purpose but can now hinder our well-being. In our day and age we don’t always have to be on alert for dangers in the wild to be able to survive and provide for our families. Of course we have a new set of issues nowadays, but our bodies do not have to constantly be in fight or flight mode. By consciously redirecting our attention towards gratitude, we counteract this bias and retrain our brains to notice and appreciate the good things around us. This shift in perspective can significantly improve mental well-being.

Gratitude helps us heal from childhood trauma, abuse, and pain

Learning how to practice gratitude after childhood trauma can help in your healing journey immensely by helping you reach radical acceptance. I know how hard it may seem to practice gratitude, especially when you’ve experienced childhood abuse and trauma. It’s hard to be grateful when we’re born into an unloving home with toxic or abusive parents that makes us doubt our self worth. It seems insensitive or perhaps even offensive to suggest. However, the benefits of gratitude, and practicing gratitude can help with healing from trauma. Also, gratitude doesn’t mean ignoring the fact that bad things did and do happen. It’s possible to feel grateful yet still find that life’s hard sometimes. It isn’t easy, but it can make a difference.

Other benefits of practicing gratitude

  • Feeling grounded, especially during challenging times
  • Boosting your mental health and well-being
  • Allowing your mind to focus on the positive things
  • Making you more optimistic
  • Developing a new-found appreciation for the simple things
  • Cultivating a healthy work-life balance
  • Relieving stress and overwhelm

1.Keep a Daily Gratitude journal

Gratitude means, “the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.” So to practice gratitude is to show your own appreciation of things. Either in your head, out loud or on paper. The most popular form of practicing gratitude comes with journaling and keeping a daily gratitude journal. A gratitude journal is more than just a diary; it’s a dedicated space where you regularly record things you’re thankful for. This simple yet profound practice encourages you to focus on the positive aspects of your life, no matter how small or insignificant they may seem. By doing so, you train your mind to see the good in everyday situations, fostering a more optimistic outlook on life.

So, for day 1 of this gratitude challenge we are going to start are very own daily gratitude journal practice. When you do this find a quiet place you can sit down and simply answer the questions below, Writing down the things, people, surroundings, etc, you are grateful for at that exact moment as you reflect on your day. Try to do your best to make this part of your daily routine from here on out. Here is a link to this gratitude journal for you to download and use as many times as you would like too!

2. Create a gratitude list through a brain dump

For day 2 of this challenge to help us reframe our life with gratitude, we will focus on getting a bigger picture of the things in our life we have to be grateful for. Doing this allows us to reframe our perspective even wider looking past just the day we had today to further beyond. Today’s challenge task is an easy one – make a list of everything you’re grateful for. You have wonderful things in your life already. It’s up to you to notice it. Think about everything you currently have going on in your life (or don’t have going on – in a good way). Take a moment to reflect on these blessings. There is nothing too small for you to be grateful for. You can be grateful for that cup of hot tea you get to enjoy every morning, that playtime with your child, your cat purring as they lay sleeping near by… List everything you can think of in a journal for you to see in one place. Allowing it all to sink in. Each and every single thing you have to be grateful for in your life as a whole.

3.Create a gratitude Jar

For day 3 of this challenge to help us reframe our life with gratitude, we will focus on that bigger picture again. While creating a way for us to come back to it in times of doubt or hardship when we need a little reminder of what we have to be grateful for. We will do this by creating a gratitude jar. So, what is a gratitude jar? A gratitude jar is a manifestation exercise where you add notes of gratitude to a container of your choice. Now, there are a few ways to use this tool of gratitude and a few ways to make it, First way you can choose is to take the list you made in day 2 of this challenge and either cut it into smaller pieces. Or write each thing written there onto sticky notes or smaller cut pieces of paper. Then you can take those pieces place them inside a jar, and leave it in your home somewhere you can see it. That way when you have moments of doubts when you are thinking life is too dark and you can’t go on because you have nothing to hold on for, you can pull as many of those little papers out. Then read them to help you reframe your unwanted and emotional thoughts.

The other option for how you can make this tool today and start using it to reframe your perspective brings more attention to your gratitude practice each day. Take one piece of paper and sit down and think of something that happened or someone who made your day worth being grateful for today. Once you have that in mind write in on your piece of paper then place it inside your jar, coming back every single day to do the same thing. Then whenever you would like come back and open your jar to read all the things you took the time each day to write down you were grateful for. You can go back in a week, at the end of the month, or what is common is to to wait until the end of the year on New Year’s Eve. Don’t forget either you can get creative and decorate your gratitude jar in any way you want as well bringing more joy to this daily practice of gratitude.

4. Express thanks to others in your life

For day 4 of this challenge to help us reframe our life with gratitude is to focus on expressing thanks to others in our life. Think about people that have done something for you at any point in your life. It can be today, yesterday, or even decades ago. Typically, people are grateful for their parents, guardians, caregivers, other family members, spouses, children, and friends. Let me remind you though that you don’t have to be grateful for people who have hurt you, even out of obligation or blood ties. (unless you want to be). So, think about those in your life that have held you up, supported you, and allowed you to grow into the beautiful human that you are. Then find a way to express your gratitude and thanks to them and do it. Whether that be by sending them a random text, getting them a card, or by giving them a gift. Do little and big things for them as they’d do for you. Spend quality time with loved ones. Connect and bond. Savor the moments you get to spend together. Don’t take any of it for granted because you never know how much time you have left with someone. So cherish it while you can. The goal is to make sure they feel your appreciation and how much your think they are truly worth. But, remember a simple “thank you” is usually enough for those who support you with their love. Plus it could also be a small act of kindness to brighten up someone’s otherwise dark day.

5. Prioritize and practice self care

When you practice gratitude you promote self care and end up prioritizing yourself. Because when you practice gratitude you are building a deeper connection with yourself. You are committing to self-awareness, self-reflection, and self-compassion and these are essential tools for supporting your personal growth, mental health and overall well-being. It allows you to truly connect with yourself on a raw, wholehearted level and changes your perspective on things. So, for day 5 of this gratitude challenge I want you to pick an activity that you consider self care and you are grateful you have the ability to do today. Then be as mindful and present as you can while you enjoy and soak up the time of self care you have today. Take in and notice how when you focus on self care it allows you to connect to parts of yourself and things you have to be grateful for in your life. For me when I slow down and focus on me it really allows me to open my eyes, and reframe what I see. Opening me up to more that I have to be grateful and thankful for. To learn more about self care and how vital that is in your life and how it promotes self love as well as gratitude click the link to read my guide here.

6. Spread gratitude through acts of kindness

For day 6 of this gratitude challenge we are going to use a little bit of DBT and bring our focus to gratitude by spreading it to someone else. Sometimes it’s hard to see what we can be grateful for because of life circumstances or our mental sate. If you are having a hard time in life or you are feeling anxious and/or depressed seeing things you can be grateful for may be clouded or something you simply don’t want to do. So, today we are going to use opposite action if we need to and instead of focusing on what we don’t have or what we have lost get out and spread kindness to bring us something to be grateful for. That feeling in our heart that glows and brings us joy plus the smile on the other person’s face is more then enough to be grateful for today.

For day 5 of the challenge today get out and give yourself something to be grateful for by being kind to others today. Spend 30 minutes doing something kind for someone else. This can be something extremely small like leaving a note on their doorstep, sending an email to thank them for all they do, making breakfast for someone, or volunteering your time. Do whatever it is that comes from the heart and makes you feel good inside.

7. Use affirmations of gratitude

For the last and final day of this challenge we are going to use simple yet very affective tool; gratitude affirmations. Gratitude affirmations are a simple tool you can use daily to help you see the beauty that life has to offer. So what are gratitude affirmations? Gratitude affirmations are positive statements that you repeat regularly to stay in wise mind and cultivate a mindset of gratitude. There are so many ways you can use gratitude affirmations in your life. For day 7 of this challenge pick one of the ways you feel called to use them below. Then pick some of the affirmations in the graphic to begin using today. I personally love to say mine out loud when I wake up in the morning and before I close my eyes at night.

  • Write them in your journal
  • Choose a new affirmation for each day of the week, then write it on a post-it note to keep by your desk
  • Choose 3 affirmations to focus on each day and say them out loud to yourself
  • Set up automated reminders on your phone so you get notified with an affirmation or multiple affirmations throughout the day
  • Get creative and draw or write an affirmation in your bullet journal

Final Thoughts

Showing appreciation for things doesn’t always look like journaling or making a gratitude list. Sometimes it can be as simple as making a language shift. So instead of saying “I have to do this” and feeling resentful or unexcited, change it to “I get to do this” for an instant positive mindset shift. Remember, you don’t “have” to do anything. No one is forcing you. You are the one in control of the choices you make. You “get” to do what you want to do, so feel excited and grateful for these opportunities and life you get to live each and every day.

Don’t forget to also be grateful for yourself! During this gratitude challenge make sure when you go through each day to include things that are only about you. Being grateful for yourself or anything about you is probably one of the hardest things to be grateful for. I know as a childhood abuse and trauma survivor it is for myself. So, if that is please make sure to make this part a priority. No matter how you feel about yourself or how someone else made you feel. There IS something about yourself that you can find to be grateful for. You just have to look for it. Use this challenge to find it and bring it to light in appreciation.

It’s true what they say: gratitude really does have the power to transform your world. Give it a try, and you might just find yourself, like me, realizing that gratitude was one of the missing pieces all along.

Take control of your self worth; 7 day challenge to redefine and boost your self worth

We spend so much of our time and lives seeking validation from outside sources. When validation is the most powerful coming from within. It allows us to step into our own power and build our feelings of self worth, self love, and confidence. Self worth and how we feel about ourselves will affect every area of our lives from how we show up for others, how we manifest, and the power of our magic. The importance of looking inward for approval and validation can’t be overstated when it comes to building an intentional life that is meaningful and fulfilling to you. So stop outsourcing your happiness and give this responsibility to the only person who is truly equipped for the job. YOU! Take control of your feelings of worthiness, love and confidence back into your own hands by using this 7 day challenge.

Before we get into the different ways to work on your self-worth, I want to share that I am not a therapist, but I am sharing the work I have personally done when going through cognitive behavioral therapy and Dialectical behavior therapy. These are the tools I’ve used that have helped me work on my own self-worth. Something I have struggled with quite a lot over the years and still sometimes do. Because, I am intimately aware, that many of us are broken people with broken parents from broken homes in a broken world. Trying to make something beautiful and move from a place of just surviving to thriving and being whole. We’re thrust into life without many of the tools for living, and it’s not that those tools don’t exist, but we just don’t have the time, energy, or means always to get access to them. Allow this 7 day challenge to help you bridge the gap and do just that.

What is self worth?

Self-worth is the belief that you are loveable and valuable regardless of how you evaluate your traits. Self-worth is often confused with self-esteem, which relies on external factors such as successes and achievements to define worth and can often be inconsistent leading to someone struggling with feeling worthy. When you think about it, your self-esteem could hit rock bottom, yet you still hold onto the notion that you have innate worth. Self-worth is at the core of our very selves—our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are intimately tied into how we view our worthiness and value as human beings. Self- worth really is a gauge of how much you value, love, and respect yourself.

People with healthy self-worth tend to have greater self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-love. People with high self-worth carry with them a sense of confidence that they will be all right and manage whatever comes their way. They have the ability to live with purpose, intention, and it is much easier to manage their logic and emotions to stay in wise mind. While they are aware of areas in which they can improve, they don’t let their shortcomings or weaknesses define their identity. They are not afraid to pursue opportunities and have reasonable faith in their ability to deliver while pursing their wildest dreams.

What is Self-Validation?

Self-validation involves acknowledging and accepting your strengths, achievements, positive attributes, and emotions. It also involves knowing that having imperfections and making mistakes does not take away from your worth or value. We cant rely on others to make us feel good. When we do, we allow others to dictate our worth. And we don’t trust our own thoughts, feelings, and judgments; we assume others know more than we do and their opinions matter more. Instead, we need to learn how to validate ourselves. Self-validation is a distinctive DBT skill that focuses on accepting the emotions you are experiencing. If you have trouble regulating your emotions, then you probably have a hard time accepting them in the first place as well. Learning to self-validate your emotions will help you cope with the overwhelming emotions we may have, while also allowing you to build up self worth.

Steps for validating yourself

  • Notice how you feel and what you need.
  • Accept your feelings and needs without judgment.
  • Don’t over-identify with your feelings. We want to accept our feelings and also remember that they don’t define us. Notice the subtle, but important, difference when you say I feel angry vs. I am angry or I feel jealous vs. I am jealous. Our feelings are temporary they come and go.
  • Remember, practice is an important part of learning self-validation!

Make sure your self validation looks like:

  • Encouraging yourself
  • Acknowledging your strengths, successes, progress, and effort
  • Noticing and accepting your feelings
  • Prioritizing your needs
  • Treating yourself with kindness
  • Saying nice things to yourself
  • Accepting your limitations, flaws, and mistakes

7 day challenge to redefine and boost your self worth

There are things you can do to boost your sense of self-worth and ensure that you value yourself like you ought to be valued; as a full, complete, and wonderful human being that is deserving of love and respect, no matter what. Take control of your feelings of worthiness, love and confidence back into your own hands by using this 7 day challenge to help assess, redefine, and boost your self worth.

1.Become aware
The very best thing you can do for yourself is to learn how to become more aware of your thoughts and how they affect your feelings. Our thoughts are incredibly powerful and how we decide to see an event or situation becomes our reality. This is the first step in learning how to validate yourself. You want to start the process of recognizing your thoughts, so you can stop the negativity and reframe how you see a situation, person, or event. Reframing or looking at something differently is what you are doing when you validate yourself. You are asking yourself to stop mentally beating yourself up and start appreciating the things you do well. You are recognizing the ways you are growing as a person and giving yourself the kindness you deserve.

How you can do this today, is by taking a sheet of paper and at the very top writing ” Times I invalidated myself today”. Now, throughout the day keep this paper always by your side and make a tally for each time you invalidate yourself whether out loud or in your mind. If you notice a certain thought pattern, emotion, or phrase coming up repeatedly take note of what it is on the page. Than at the end of the day sit with this page and look at how many times you tore yourself down when you could have built yourself up instead. Give yourself the warmest and most compassionate hug apologizing for forcing your mind to be fixated in place of judgement, pain, and despair. Let yourself know you understand why they may have lashed out or reacted in pain during the day. Than make yourself a promise that you will be more aware of what you think, believe and say to yourself each and every day. Starting by showing up for day two of this challenge tomorrow.

2. Accept that you need acceptance
The next step to building up our self worth through validation, is radically accepting that no matter how much we think we don’t care, we all need to feel accepted and loved. I don’t care who you are, where you are from, or how resilient you think you are. Being accepted and feeling like you belong is incredibly powerful and something we all long for. Essentially, it’s part of our DNA being something we are searching for from the moment of our births. We have to be accepted in order to survive. we need to be accepted and cared for by the people around us. At the same time, we must recognize we won’t always get that acceptance in the way we need it or the way we want it. Which means it’s on each of us to love and accept ourselves. To be the ones that can truly fulfill that need no matter where we end up or how alone we are. In order to start the process of validating yourself, you have to start the process of loving and accepting yourself wholly without judgement. That means all parts of yourself, including your thoughts, emotions, actions, opinions, and values.

How you can do this today, is by spending some time doing some brain dumping and journaling focusing on your strengths and weaknesses. This allows you to spend some time with really getting to look at each part of yourself. When you do this you are able to than validate each part of yourself by reframing your thinking and looking at it from another perspective. Seeing how those things you view as weaknesses have actually been hidden gems of resilience and pieces that make us who we are. So, those things that you have listed in the weaknesses column will be moved to the strength column with acceptance, validation, and love.

3. Do the inner work to assess how you currently view your worth

One of the most crucial steps to working on your self worth, is doing the hard and intentional work of assessing how you actually value yourself right now and what you view is your self worth. Depending on where you are at on your journey of healing, self discovery, and inner work this may be a really uncomfortable day for you. This is when you sit down alone, in a quiet, calm and sacred container where you can go deep within your heart. To really ask yourself how much do you value yourself, what is your worth, and why is it at the place it is at?

How you can do this today, is by doing some shadow work. Self discovery is the ultimate goal of shadow work and shadow work prompts are an ideal way to get to the root of your shadow. You can choose different parts of yourself and your shadow to work with each time you delve into the darkness of your soul with shadow work. So, take some time today to use the prompts below to really assess how you truly value yourself. Doing so will allow you to know how much reframing around your self worth may need to happen and provide you with a path to take to boost it to be as high as it can be.

If you would like guided 1:1 help with this you can book me for private shadow sessions in the shop!

4. Don’t Listen to all of your thoughts
The next step to building up our self worth through validation, is understanding that you don’t need to listen to every single one of your thoughts. A common expression I heard throughout DBT that stuck with me was, “Just because you have a thought, it doesn’t make it true.” We have 30,000 to 50,000 thoughts a day and research has shown that about 80% of our thoughts are either regrets from the past or fears about the future. Making a huge chunk of our thoughts based not in facts but simply assumptions and emotions. Which means our thoughts aren’t always completely reliable or truthful.

When you validate yourself, you’re asking yourself, “What else can be true?” The act of validation is about looking at a situation and thinking, “OK, this didn’t go as planned. I made a mistake and now I have to decide how I’m going to think about this situation to radically accept and move on.” In that moment, you can beat yourself up and break yourself down or you can challenge your thoughts and decide to ask yourself, “What else can be true?” “What else can I see or learn?” ” What am I responding to emotions, assumptions, or facts?”

How you can do this today is, by taking the time to mindfully sit with a situation you’ve recently reacted to in a way of anger, pain, or hurt. Look back on the situation and think about it from a perspective you may have missed in those moments by checking the facts. Doing this allows you to identify what was emotion and what was fact you were reacting you to. Giving you the ability to validate your reactions while also looking for the places where you can change how you reacted.

5. Speak words of validation to yourself out loud

When was the last time you validated yourself? I am referring to positively recognizing your thoughts, emotions or actions. When was the last time you took a moment to stop the negative chatter in your mind? Stop waiting to hear the positive words, praise or encouragement you’re craving. Tell it to yourself because you’re the only person you have complete control over.

How you can do this today, is by literally revamping your self talk and speaking words of validation out loud to yourself. You can do this anywhere you would like and whenever you would like. I find it the most helpful for myself to speak words of validation out loud to myself in the morning when I wake, when I go to bed, and than anytime throughout the day when I catch myself speaking to myself in an unkind way. I’ll even do it before a big conversation, event, or social outing.

6. Stop people pleasing and set boundaries

We are so conditioned to believe that our value is tied up in what we give instead of who we are. Many of us like myself are taught, self-worth is all about whether or not you are making someone else happy, by doing them a service or giving them things they want. This is what determines whether you’re good enough, you matter, and deserve to be loved. But, after living most of my life as a chronic people pleaser, turning that need into anxiety so extreme it became OCD. I have learned that finding your value in other people will always leave you feeling less than what your true worth is really meant to be.

How you can do this today, is by setting boundaries for yourself or saying no to something today. It’s okay to say no, to set boundaries, it doesn’t make you a selfish or bad person. You’re allowed to give what you receive. You’re allowed to form relationships where it’s give-give instead of give-take. You are allowed to say no. You are allowed to say “I can’t right now.” and most shocking of all; you are allowed to form the opinion that some people do not deserve your help

You do not have to give and give until there’s nothing left. Seek the people who fill you up, who reciprocate what you give, and who respect the boundaries that you make. Take all of that endless love and compassion and time and money that you are always giving other people, and turn a little bit toward yourself. See how good that feels. Don’t chase that feeling of worthiness from other people when you are so capable of filling yourself up and finding others who will appreciate you and respect your boundaries.

7.Determine your definition of self worth

Self-worth is a subjective concept that can fluctuate based on many variables, says Sabrina Romanoff, PsyD, a clinical psychologist and professor at Yeshiva University. Which means it’s important for us to determine how we ourselves define our own self worth. According to Dr. Romanoff, these are some of the factors that may influence self-worth:

Core beliefs and values
Thoughts and feelings
Emotions and mental well-being
Experiences and interactions with others
Relationships, both past and present
Health and physical fitness
Career and profession

Wrap Up

It’s important to have self-worth because it impacts everything you do from your relationships, to how you work, how you feel about yourself, and how others view you. Remember, self-worth, is based on your strengths, flaws, and who you truly are at your core when accomplishments, possessions, and acquisitions are stripped away. While it’s fantastic to be proud of your accomplishments and good to be aware of how others perceive you, a sense of self-worth is a vital part of a healthy and thriving existence. Your inherent value as a person does not stem from your accomplishments or what others think of you Ultimately remember You are the only one who determines your self-worth. If you believe you are worthy and valuable, you are worthy and valuable. Even if you don’t believe you are worthy and valuable, guess what—you still are worthy and valuable!

Litha; Connecting To The Vibrant, And Life Giving Energy Of The Longest Day Of The Year

The Summer Solstice; the longest day of the year! This pagan holiday, also known as Litha, is all about celebrating the light in our lives the sun! As the days grow longer and the sun shines brighter, the world around us begins to come alive in a vibrant display of color and warmth. As we look around us and see in nature; our gardens are sprouting, flowers blooming, the birds flying around, the bees zooming about pollinating, and the grass coming back from winter; we know we have the warm, bright, and vibrant sun to thank for it. Litha is a time to celebrate the abundance and beauty of the Earth. It’s a time to celebrate the warmth of the sun’s rays on us and its nourishing effect on the Earth. It truly is the celebration of the fullness of nature and the strength and power of the sun. It’s the time the goddess is heavy with child and the god is preparing to help with the birth.

It’s a fire festival where we both, celebrate the Sun while also remembering that darker days are coming. With the realization that the days will steadily begin to grow shorter; and this is a fire festival. It becomes another sabbatt when we get to connect to our passions, desires, and the things that truly bring us joy in life. With the sun also being the planet that is the keeper of our ego, pride, and identity this holiday is a time to allow the sun’s rays to shine a light on who you truly are and allow them reconnect you to that version of yourself. Let’s follow the rays of the sun to have litha illuminated to us in this blogpost.

The History Of Litha

Litha AKA, Midsummers Night is the longest day of the year, now known as the summer solstice and has been celebrated in some fashion since ancient times. Litha is a pagan holiday and also one of Wicca’s eight sabbats that takes place on the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. It’s also known as Midsummer and is celebrated around June 21 in the Northern Hemisphere. The word “Litha” comes from the Anglo-Saxon word for “midsummer”. It has roots in ancient agricultural societies that relied on the sun for their livelihoods. It’s celebrated by many cultures around the world, including Pagans, Celts, and Norse people, and has its roots in ancient agricultural societies.

Historical evidence shows that Litha celebrations date back thousands of years and as far as the Neolithic period though they may be called by different names and worship different deities in each culture. Many agricultural societies used the period to indicate a time for planting and harvesting. Many ancient monuments like Stonehenge, the Egyptian pyramids, and the Temple of Kukulcan, were built to align with the sun’s position during the Summer solstice and thought to not only be used as a calendar but, places of worship to honor this day as well.

Litha is believed to be an ancient Germanic word for the months of June and July as well. The Anglo-Saxons (germanic)brought Aerra Litha with them to the British Isles when they settled there in the 5th and 6th centuries AD.

In Celtic culture and mythology Litha was a celebration of the Celtic goddess Danu (Anu) who represents earth and fruitfulness. According to Irish mythology Danu was the Universal Mother of Tuatha De Danaan – a tribe of ancient people in Ireland believed to have invaded Ireland and ruled until being defeated in war on midsummer’s day, after which they retreated to the hills and eventually became the Faerie folk.

In ancient Rome, this celebration was known as Vestalia which was the celebration of Vesta, the goddess of virginity, chastity and the sacred flame. Women would visit the temple of Vesta and make offerings to this goddess.

In many Neopaganism and Wiccan traditions, Litha marked the end of the Oak King’s reign and the rise of the Holly King, who oversees the world as the days gradually get shorter as the world descends into the cold dark of winter. The Oak King is associated with strength, growth, and vitality, while the Holly King is associated with rest, reflection, and regeneration. Together, they represent the cyclical nature of the seasons and the constant flow of life, death, and rebirth in the natural world. They are in fact, in many traditions, two faces of the Horned God, representing the polarity that exists in all things. In the Wiccan practice, it’s a bit deeper with an added layer as well. The Oak King(The God) and The Goddess are at the height of their power, and the Goddess is heavily pregnant and it is the oak king who will help her give birth. She is filled with the life of her coming son just as the earth is sown with seeds that will soon come to harvest.

Later in history as Christianity swept across Europe in the early middle ages, Litha / Midsummer Night was adopted by the Catholic church as St. John’s Day, celebrating John the Baptist.

When Is Litha?

Litha, or the Midsummer sabbat, is celebrated as a lesser sabbat in modern paganism and also one of the main fire festivals in the Celtic calendar. Litha happens at the summer solstice, when the day is longest and the night shortest. It is celebrated around June 21st, usually falling on any day from June 20th to June 23rd in the Northern hemisphere. In the southern hemisphere, it falls around December 21st to December 22nd. The changes in the dates depend on the shifting earth’s rotation around the sun. Litha marks the longest day of the year, the end of spring, and the start of summer astronomically.

The Fires Of Litha

First and foremost, Litha was and is a fire festival. Fire holds a significant role during Litha, symbolizing purification, transformation, and the height of solar energy. It was common to build bonfires and make wishes on Litha across cultures. Though it is thought this tradition may have originated with Celtic, Slavic, and Germanic people in Neolithic cultures in Northern and Central Europe, who lit bonfires to strengthen the sun’s power for the rest of the growing season. Family, friends, loved ones, and neighbors would gather and sit around the bonfire all night long waiting to greet the sun as it rises on its longest day. Catching the very first glimpse and energies of the first rays of the day. Some believe that fire symbolizes the sun and wards off unwanted entities. Others think that lighting and jumping over bonfires on the solstice brings good luck to lovers and keeps demons away.

A Celebration of The Sun

It is the height of celebration, as the triumphant sun shines bright and majestic, full of passion and success. Litha is a symbol of light, love and happiness, as well as, warmth and the power of the sun. At the heart of Litha celebrations, is the recognition and reverence for the sun’s life-giving energy. We rejoice in the seasons and the source of the light that is the basis of life. The sun is seen as a powerful symbol of vitality, strength, and for many the masculine aspect of divinity.

A Time To Connect To Yourself and Nature Around You

There are many ways to celebrate and connect to Litha. At the heart of these festivities, they are about getting in tune and connecting with the world around you and your place in it. Litha is a time to connect deeply with nature and embrace its abundance. The earth is in full bloom, with vibrant colors, fragrant flowers, and bountiful harvests. Humanity is busy with festivals, bbqs, and family gatherings almost every weekend. It’s a time when fertile energy is at its peak, and all around us, new life is rapidly growing. Litha celebrates the growing crops, the Sun, abundance, and the first day of Summer. Litha is your time to connect to and honor nature’s incredible fertile energy at this time of year, and to connect with our natural world on a deeper, more meaningful level.

Litha And Duality

Since, I am a grey witch I look for the duality in every single energy I work with including sacred days and/or holidays like Litha. We see the duality in Litha in the reason for why we celebrate it; for being the longest day of the year, and preparing us for the days to begin to shorten. We must embrace the good days before the darker days arrive. If we don’t celebrate our abundance, our fertility, and our success, then the darker days become even more bleak and unbearable.

Common Traditions

Since Litha is a fire festival in honor of the sun and it’s power, one of the most common ways to celebrate it was by lighting a bonfire on the top of a hillside. Using the bonfire to connect to the strength of the sun to carry them through the upcoming harvest season and long winter to follow. Another common practice was setting large wheels on fire and rolling them down into bodies of water.

Romans celebrated Juno during this time, which meant this month was often filled with many marriages. Vesta was also another celebrated goddess, and was often given offerings of salted meat for eight days in exchange for blessings upon the home. Along with lighting the fire in your hearths. In Norse traditions, the solstice was celebrated with feasts dedicated to Freyr, the fertility god.

Litha Deities

In many mythologies, and pantheons, gods and goddesses of Litha play a vital role in the seasonal cycle, symbolizing fertility, abundance, the earth, the sun, fire, and our personal power. They remind us to be grateful for all the sun has provided us with this yearly cycle and to begin to prepare for the winter to come. Working with deities is one of my favorite things to do. You can honor them during their festivals for them and by bringing them into any of your prayers, rituals, and spells you want to in order to celebrate and connect to this holiday. Let’s take a look at some of the Deities that can be worshipped during this sacred time and holiday. If you need to learn more about working with deities in your practice you can purchase my ebook on the topic here.

Juno

Juno, the Roman goddess of marriage, the family, and childbirth was a paramount figure embodying the sanctity and power of matrimonial union and the family. The Roman goddess Juno is among the first gods and goddesses of ancient Rome who is in charge of the women’s lives in the state. Juno’s symbol, which is a peacock, represents her watchful vigilance and her role as the protector of the community. It is assumed that the term “Juno” meant “the young one” because of her association as the goddess of the new and waxing moon. This celestial connection perhaps implying the idea of growth and beginnings, aligns with her domains.

Today, it is accepted that the Roman goddess Juno has the title “Regina” meaning Queen which gives her the title of the “Queen of the Gods.” Juno, being a multifaceted deity, was also the wife and sister of Jupiter, the King of all the Roman gods. She was often represented as the female counterpart to Mars the god of war, highlighting her influence in both the domestic and political spheres. Although the Roman goddess Juno had dominion over family, marriage, and childbirth, she is often depicted to be in a warlike stance, an illustration that is often favored upon by Roman soldiers.

Pan

Part man and part goat, Pan was the Greek god who was patron of shepherds and hunters, who watched their flocks. Pan was the Greek god of nature and the untamed wilderness. PAN was the god of the meadows and forests of the mountain wilds. His unseen presence aroused panic in those who traversed his realm. He was even thought to be the cause of the musical sound of the wind through the trees. He was Associated with music, fertility, and spring. In ancient Greek art, he was often depicted as a horned man with the legs of a goat; he was the chief of the satyrs, who were similar in appearance and character to Pan.

Pan, ruled over nature and pasturelands. Pan is essentially the father of the wild things. He is frequently depicted in literature and artworks. Although he is not one of the major gods of Ancient Greece, he is one of most often referenced figures in Greek mythology. Pan has come to represent the unstoppable power of nature throughout the ages and still today. To learn more about pan and how to connect to him you can do so in my previous blog post here.

Lugh

The Irish god of the sun, Lugh is a powerful deity associated with Litha. He is often invoked for protection and blessings of abundance. Lugh is a powerful deity said to have brought learning and knowledge to man. He is an Irish God of the Tuatha De Dannan, associated with Litha and the summer season. As the Celtic solar deity, Lugh has hegemony over life, light and law. His traditional symbols represent energy and creativity, from a shining sun held aloft in his hands to fiery arrows that stand for passion and lust.

Hathor

Of the many different gods and goddesses that were worshipped in ancient Egypt, Hathor is considered one of the most important. Hathor is the Egyptian goddess of love and beauty and her history is quite intriguing among the many that are around in the Egyptian pantheon. The Egyptian goddess of beauty and love is the daughter of the sky goddess Nut and the god of the sun and creation, Ra. Hathor is not only the daughter of Egypt’s main deities for she is also the ‘eye of Ra,’ the most powerful force in the world. This makes her one of the most significant deities in Egyptian mythology. The Egyptian goddess of love and beauty is also the goddess of the underworld. She welcomes the dead as they reach the underworld and serves them food and drinks. She is thought to be later connected with the Greek goddess Aphrodite this is why she is a great deity to work with this month to help you with self love, nourishment, and fertility workings.

Danu

Danu a celtic goddess, also known as Anu or Dana, she represents the divine maternal figure and her influence spread throughout Eastern Europe to Ireland. Danu was worshipped as a goddess of fertility, wisdom, and the wind. She nurtured the gods and she adopted became known as; the Tuatha Dé Danann, the Irish pantheon associated with the fairy folk.

Danu played a vital role in Celtic cosmology, embodying the nurturing and fertile aspects of femininity. As a goddess of fertility, she was associated with the abundance of the land and the growth of crops. Danu was also revered for her wisdom and connection to the wind. It was believed that she possessed profound knowledge, acting as a guide for the gods and the mortal inhabitants of the Celtic world. According to ancient Celtic beliefs, Danu not only nurtured the gods but also served as a protector and sustainer of life.

Ra

The sun god Ra was ancient Egypt’s most revered and sacred deity, who they worshipped as king of the gods and father of creation. King of the deities and father of creation, he was the most sacred of all the gods, a solar deity who embodied the sheer power of the sun and gave life to the universe. As such, he symbolized the great reverence ancient Egyptians had for the sun as an agricultural society in the desert whose lives revolved around growth and regeneration. According to many Egyptian myths, sun god Ra was responsible for the creation of all life. Out of eternal darkness, an entity called Atum called forth the beginning of creation. An island slowly emerged out of the Primeval Ocean, which turned into Ra, the sun god and than Ra spawned the first gods. As creator of the universe, Ra became father and king to all gods, humans and living creatures. Egyptians believed that it was Ra’s duty to travel across the sky every day, bringing light and life to the world. As the sun set, Ra would descend into the underworld, where he battled against forces of darkness, including the evil serpent Apopis, in order to ensure the sun could rise again in the morning. Egyptians likened this daily pattern of light and darkness to the entire cycle of life, in which humans live, die and rise again in the afterlife.

Amaterasu

Amaterasu is the primary deity of the Shinto religion in Japanese mythology, revered as the goddess of the sun, universe, and creation itself, and considered the highest manifestation of the spirit of the universe. Amaterasu was born from the left eye of her father, Izanagi, when he purified himself after visiting the underworld. Her birth gave her the unique status of being the only deity born from Izanagi alone. As the source of all light, life, and creation, the sun goddess sustains heaven and earth with a light so compelling that her father appointed her ruler of the universe when he first laid eyes on her. Amaterasu is also known for her role as the ruler of the Higher Celestial Plane. In this realm, she was responsible for bringing light to the world through the sun that she embodied. Amaterasu is the rising and setting sun: without her, all forms of life would cease to exist. As ruler of the heavens, she governs over all spirits (kami), and her divine powers brought about the cultivation of rice and wheat: she is also credited with first using silkworms and looms for weaving. Amaterasu’s role as the ruler of heaven is to ensure the continuity of life by maintaining order. As the embodiment of the sun, she assimilates all of its qualities and provides comfort and assurance to all those who look to her for guidance and protection. Having served as the mother of the imperial family she is revered as the goddess of the state, and is both nurturing and maternal. To learn more about her you can both read my blogpost about her here and watch my class with Divination here.

Ways To Celebrate Litha

We have talked about many different themes, and energies you can connect to during this time from fertility, abundance, joy, passion, connecting to nature, empowerment, transformation, and more. Let’s talk about how we can connect to and celebrate those themes and energies now. First, you can participate and honor any of the deities listed above or that are associated with Summer or the sun. You can work with any affirmations, mantras, and visualization work for manifestation, passion, abundance, fertility, joy, empowerment, and transformation. Check out below more ways to work with and celebrate this holiday and time of year.

Have a bonfire

As we talked about above, first and foremost beltane was celebrated as fire festival and the ancient celts used to pass their cattle through two of them to purify and cleanse them. So, what better way to connect to Litha and celebrate it than to build, lit, and enjoy a bonfire of your own! It’s common to do this with others, have some drinks, and leap over the flames for good luck and prosperity. Just be safe!

Perform a burning release

You already have the fire burning so why not use it for some release magic? One of my favorite ways to release unwanted habits, energies, people, and things from my life is to burn it away with fire. Take a piece of paper, focus on what it is you want to release from your life, write it on that piece of paper than walk up to your bonfire and as you let the paper fall and be burned in the flames visualize what you wrote being burned to ashes in your life as well.

Perform Solar magic

At the heart of Litha celebrations is the recognition and reverence for the sun’s life-giving energy. Which makes it one or if not the most potent day to perform solar magic. There are so many different ways to work with solar magic and the sun from meditating under its bright rays, making sun water, drawing down the sun and more. To learn all about solar magic and connecting to the sun and how to do so you can read about it here in my previous blog post.

Dance

Litha is a very fertile time full of energy, passion, and abundance, so what better way to connect to that energy than to move with it. We can do this by moving our hips, our womb spaces and moving our body through dance. Dancing allows us to move energy around, connect to the movements of energy around us in a dynamic way, and opens up our womb space to connect to sexual energy. So, get up move your body through dance and maybe even do so around a bonfire!

Wild Flower Crafting
Wild flowers have always been a big part of the Litha celebrations. In ancient times, it was common to pick flowers like sunflowers and create crown wreaths out of them to wear or place on an altar. Or to take them and create a beautiful handfasting basket for a couple whose getting married. So go and pick wildflowers, Litha is the perfect day for it! Then return home and make a bouquet. Or if you’re feeling really crafty, make flower wreaths, crowns or garland to decorate yourself, your home, to place on your altar, or gift to a couple.

Refresh Your Altar
Another way to connect to a holiday and/or sacred day I always recommend is to cleanse and refresh your altar and/or sacred space. Use water or fire to cleanse, then decorate with wildflowers, images of the fae, Litha deities, and any of the litha correspondences we talked about earlier.

Simmer pot for beltane

Whether you consider yourself a Kitchen Witch, are vaguely interested in Kitchen Magic or just want to bring some good vibes and good smells into your home, simmer pots are an easy, accessible and fun ritual for any time of year! Simmer pots are easy to create and customize to your liking, so you can make your kitchen a sacred space whenever you want! So, why not make one specifically to call in and honor the energy of Litha.

What are simmer pots? Simmer pots are basically potpourri in a pot! You choose your ingredients, put them in a pot with water, bring to a boil, then turn down to a simmer and let it do its thing. They couldn’t be any easier, just be sure you don’t let your pot boil dry! If you want to keep the pot going simply add more water when it gets low. And obviously never leave it going when you are not home. To learn more about how about this magical practice you can check out my previous blogpost on the topic here.

Perform Fae Magic
In ancient times, and up to the modern era, the Celtic people believed strongly in the Fae, also called the faery folk. Litha, the Summer Solstice, is one of the three annual Feasts of Faeries, the Fae. The day of the Summer Solstice is when access to their realm is the easiest and the Faes’ powers, strongest. They frolic about bonfires, joyously singing and dancing. This makes it a great day and time to connect to the fae by performing fae magic. To learn more about the fae you can check out Divination’s class series on it here

Five Senses Nature Walk

Litha is all about the cycle and movement of nature and marking the most fertile time of the year. Connecting to the blooming and buzzing of nature all around us. So why not take the time to connect to nature itself? Soak in all the fertility and abundance in nature right now. You can do this by going on a five sense nature walk. After you have engaged all your senses, walk back to your home. Reflect on your experience by writing it down in a journal

Make a Litha Spell Jar

Spell Jars are one of my most favorite spells to create and tools to use in my magical practice and life. Spell jars are great to create a container of energy for you to harness and come back to over and over again when you need it! A quick run down on how to create a spell jar. Pick your items, and add them to your jar after you wash, cleanse and charger your jar. As you add your items focus on visualizing the energy of abundance and what it is you very specifically want to call into your life with that energy. Once you feel the intention and energy is set inside the jar you can take your lid and seal it shut. To add more power to your jar you can add sigils to the outside or seal the lid with wax even. Place the jar on your altar or anywhere in your home, office, or car where you can see it and come back to it when you need to call on the energy and spell again. You can shake the jar to activate the magic whenever you come back to it as well. Keep an eye out for more spell jars on my Pinterest or Facebook page and to learn more about all about them purchase my ebook here.

Working With The Loving, Bright, Vital, And Balancing Energy Of June

Every single month has its own energy, and frequencies we can connect to that are unique. When we connect to the month’s energy and frequencies we can find ourselves living a much more aligned, and magical life. We have the ability to amplify our magical workings, intentions, and manifesting. Let’s talk about how to do that with the month of June.

An explosion of vitality shines brightly down on the Earth this month from the Sun. And that joy of living is transferred to the spirit in everything all around us like; in the activities of humans, like camping, BBQS, concerts, community events, and an increase in weddings this month. In the full hustle and bustle of nature with young running around now, gardens fully growing, and flowers blooming. We see it even in celebrations this month. Like the arrival of midsummer with Litha and the longest day of the year when we observe the height of the sun. The celebration of all kinds of love, with the celebration of the LGBT community being Pride month. Then the focus of fatherly love on father’s day. This month has also been known from antiquity in rome and greece to be the best and most popular month to get married. Love is around every corner in June; sexual love as well as self-love through your self worth, fatherly love and romantic love through marriage and relationships.

The month of June continues the fiery and passionate energy of May with the sun intensifying that energy and the days beginning to get longer. The month of June is vibrant, energetic, creative, lustful, fertile, joyous, bright, loving, and brimming full with the vitality of the sun. Once the celebration of Litha happens, the days begin to get longer, and we enter the second half of the year; this month becomes all about self improvement, reevaluating our goals and intentions, organization, cleaning/cleansing, and performing magic for strength and motivation.

In the month of June we see some themes from both May and April continued as well. It’s a time like the previous months to honor the sun’s power, celebrate the Earth’s abundance, and harness the energy of growth and vitality. This month continues to be a time to focus on positive change, growth and new opportunities. As well as taking the time to celebrate under the vibrant rays of the sun your successes you have already had this yearly cycle. This month is a time to truly focus on aligning ourselves with the natural rhythms of the solar system and the turning of the wheel through the brightest rays of the sun we will have access to throughout the year. This month is a time to align ourselves with the sense of balance that we are pushed into with it also being the midway mark of our chronological year.

Make sure to use those energies and themes to nourish your seeds planted in March, that you watered in April, and you Nourished in May. Focus on making sure you are allowing the joyous, loving and Vital rays of the sun to shine onto your manifestations, intentions, and goals for the year. Allow them to soak up those rays so they can flourish, and grow even bigger than you ever imagined during the brightest and most vibrant month of the year.

History Of The Month Of June

The month of June is named after the Roman Goddess of Marriage, Juno. It may also be derived from the Roman word iuniores meaning “young ones”. Some scholars also believe it is also possible that this month was dedicated to the Junior branch of the legislature. June is known as the sixth month of the Gregorian Calendar, and June is considered the first month of summer.

The month of June also featured other prominent symbols like hera, Danu, and even Zeus where we see balance in this month again. Zeus, the ‘father of all gods’, was honored in mid-June (mid-summer) in Ancient Greece, which is the reason many believe the origins of Father’s Day, our honoring and celebration of fathers this month, is actually associated with this god.

Sacred Days And Celebrations In June

Every Single month has sacred and important days and celebrations to help you connect to the energies of the month. Plus they usually are a lot of fun to take part in! Let’s talk about a couple of the sacred days and celebrations for the month of June.

Litha/ Midsummer

The Summer Solstice; the longest day of the year! This pagan holiday, also known as Litha, is all about celebrating the light in our lives the sun! As we look around us and see in nature our gardens starting to sprout, flowers blooming, the birds flying around, the bees zooming about pollinating, and the grass coming back from winter we know we have the warm, bright, and vibrant sun to thank for it. Litha is a time to celebrate the abundance and beauty of the Earth. It truly is the celebration of the fullness of nature and the strength and power of the sun.

It’s another fire festival like the one we celebrated last month Beltane. But, it also is a time when we both celebrate the Sun while also remembering that darker days are coming. With the realization that the days will steadily begin to grow shorter; and that this is a fire festival it becomes another sabbatt when we get to connect to our passions, desires, and the things that truly bring us joy in life.

To learn more about this sacred celebration and day keep an eye for my upcoming blogpost and my Free event!

Father’s Day

Father’s Day is a holiday honoring one’s father, as well as fatherhood, paternal bonds, love from the divine masculine and the influence of fathers in society. In Catholic countries of Europe, it has been celebrated on 19 March as Saint Joseph’s Day since the Middle Ages. Zeus, the ‘father of all gods’, was honoured in mid-June (mid-summer) in Ancient Greece, which is the reason many believe he is the origin of Father’s Day in that region as well.

In more modern times in the United States there are two different versions of the history of father’s day. According to some accounts, the first Father’s Day was celebrated in Washington state on June 19, 1910. A woman by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd came up with the idea of honoring and celebrating her father while listening to a Mother’s Day sermon at church in 1909. She felt as though mothers were getting all the acclaim while fathers were equally deserving of a day of praise. The other story of the first Father’s Day in America happened all the way on the other side of the country in Fairmont, West Virginia on July 5, 1908. Grace Golden Clayton suggested to the minister of the local Methodist church that they hold services to celebrate father’s after a deadly mine explosion killed 361 men.

Pride Month

LGBTQ Pride Month is a commemoration of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community that is part celebration and part protest. It is often associated with massive parades and parties that honor the community’s joys and accomplishments. This month is really all about the idea of celebrating all kinds of love no matter how it may look to others. But the rallies, marches and political actions can be just as important to draw attention to the issues still facing the community. LGBTQ Pride Month traces its roots back to the 1969 Stonewall riots, which started on June 28, 1969. The first Pride marches started the following year, on June 28, 1970, to commemorate the multi day riots, and these one-day celebrations eventually evolved into a full month of LGBTQ pride.

Magical And Witchcraft Themes For June

In witchcraft, June is a time of abundance, vitality, and celebration. As the height of summer approaches in the Northern Hemisphere, witches embrace the warmth and energy of the sun. As we talked about above June is associated with the summer solstice, also known as Midsummer or Litha, a time of celebration marking the longest day of the year. Which connects us to themes like energy, motivation, self improvement, strength, balance, duality, and vitality. We also see many witches using this time to perform spells and rituals for fertility, abundance, and prosperity by connecting to the nourishing energy of the sun and the vibrancy and movement of life all around us in nature.

The Gods And Goddesses Of June

With every season and month there are certain themes, magic, and energies we have the ability to connect to including deities. Everyone works with and views deity energy a little differently. Whether you view them as archetypes of the human consciousness, representations of the source energy, or as being entities on their own, there are certain deities that now is the time to connect to and honor them in the most sacred and amplified way.

During this month a few deities take center stage because they have festivals or sacred days during this month to help you connect with them in a very intimate way. The deities that are going to be the best for you to connect to right now are going to be those who represent love, abundance, personal development, balance, courage, personal power, and the Sun. You can also work with any deities connected to sacred days like Litha. Below we will talk about some of the deities you can work with this month.

Iris

First up in honor of pride and the connection to the rainbow let’s talk about the greek goddess Iris. Iris, is the Greek Goddess of the Rainbow and Messenger of the Gods, and she has an important place in Greek mythology. Known for her vivid look and elegant presence, Iris is the divine connection between gods and mortals. But Iris is more than a messenger. She symbolizes the radiance, brilliance, and enchantment of rainbows, a sight that humans have been charmed by for a long time. Iris is different from other goddesses. Other gods sometimes meddle with human affairs out of fun or interest. But Iris is devoted to her mission. She shows loyalty and adherence to duty, never stopping in her mission to keep communication between Olympus and Earth open.

Even though she is most well known as the goddess of rainbows and messenger to the gods; she is also known as a goddess of the sea and sky. In some regions she is depicted as a virgin goddess and was believed by the coastal-dwelling Greeks to replenish the rain clouds with water from the sea. She was often described as Hera’s personal messenger and one of her handmaidens. Since this month is all about love and the first part of it is dedicated to Hera this makes it a really great month to work with her! To learn more about her you can read all about her in my previous blog post here. And keep an eye out on my facebook page for a soon to be announced event to connect with her!

Juno

Let’s talk about Juno the goddess June is named after next.

Hera

Next up we have another queen of the gods but, this time from greece who is very closely linked to Iris as well, Hera. Hera, the queen of the gods, holds a significant place in Greek mythology. Hera, was born to the Titans Cronos and Rea. Hera’s marriage to Zeus, known as the hieros gamos or sacred marriage, stands as a central aspect of her mythology. Together, they symbolized the union of sky and earth, with all the gods presenting gifts to celebrate this momentous occasion.

Hera’s legendary jealousy and relentless pursuit of Zeus’ extramarital affairs are well-documented. As her husband’s infidelities became apparent, she unleashed her wrath on his lovers, seeking retribution for their trespasses. From nymphs to mortal women, Hera’s persistent and often vengeful nature showcased a dimension of her personality that was both formidable and unyielding. Hera played a pivotal role in the Judgement of Paris, an event that sparked the Trojan War. Alongside Athena, Aphrodite, and Eris where we see her jealous on full display. To learn more about this story and hear a detailed account. I retell it here in my class on the dark goddess Eris.

There are many connections she has with other deities of the pantheon as well including her role in the birth of Artemis and Apollo. And her connection to the goddess of rainbows Iris. Who was often described as Hera’s personal messenger and one of her handmaidens. She is often depicted next to her in many pieces of artwork and in myths. Hera even supported the legendary hero Heracles, commonly known as Hercules, and aided him during his trials. Hera’s interactions with other gods and goddesses shaped the course of mythology and played a significant role in several legendary stories.

Zeus

Zeus, the Greek god of the sky, is considered the ruler, protector, and father of both gods and humans. Known for his ability to control thunderstorms and powerful weather phenomenal. Zeus was the sister and husband to Hera. Zeus also had numerous extramarital affairs, often assuming animal forms to seduce his lovers and these affairs had significant impact on the greek mythology and the other deities.

Zeus was the son of Cronus and Rhea, two powerful titans. Cronus, fearful of being overthrown, swallowed his children at birth. However, Rhea managed to save Zeus by hiding him on the island of Crete. As Zeus grew up in secrecy, he became determined to overthrow his father and free his siblings. With the help of his mother and the Titan Metis, Zeus devised a plan to make Cronus regurgitate his swallowed children. Upon defeating Cronus and the titans, Zeus became the ruler of the world and the heavens. Zeus presided over the council of gods and playing a crucial role in maintaining order and justice. He was revered as the protector and father figure of gods and humans alike. Which is why I listed him here in the list for the month of June. Many scholars feel that father’s day being this month may be tied to honoring him as the father figure to all.

Other rituals and spell workings that would be powerful to perform during the month of June will be based on Love, sex, and divine union. The month of June starts with the continuation of the fiery and passionate blaze of sex and co creation with Beltane happening last month in May. That energy is felt throughout the entire month and reignited in the energy of Litha. You see it in nature even as the bees are busy pollinating flowers, the animals are mating, and humans are all about love and marriage this month with weddings happening all the time. I myself got married this month. So, take the time to really allow yourself to access your true desires and passion. By expressing your love and union through your physical bodies this month by doing some sex magick rituals or spells. I personally love sex magic within my marriage it really strengthens our bond, and you get access to some really magically connections.

With June being connected to Litha and the turning point of the year Another way you can access the energy of expansion is through the expression of transformation and the element of water. To access this expression you can do things like journal, do an auto scripting session, water release work, work with your sacred contracts, and perform spells that help boost your confidence and self esteem to help you transform. You can also focus on transformation, rebirth, and renewal through shadow work this month as well allowing the sun in to illuminate your shadows. The month of June is a month full of love starting from left over energy of beltane, then expressions of paternal love, and the acceptance of love in forms with pride. This month take the time to focus on the energy of love for yourself, and others in all ways and really explore all facets of the energy of love this month. You can do things like making sure you get yourself outside breathing the fresh air and getting in touch with the element of water to connect to deep emotions. You can also make sure to nourish yourself and show yourself some self love by taking a self love ritual bath. Lastly, take some time to look at your relationship with your father, and with the divine father to determine if you have a father wound that you may need to work on healing this month. Also take the time to look at how you are expressing yourself through your sexual and/or gender identity. Are you being authentic with that? If you are not, why? This is a great month to allow you to freely work with that aspect of yourself and express it with pride and love.

f you didn’t start working with them the last couple months in April or May don’t worry; June is also the perfect month and time to start working with the Fae and the Faery realm. You can start doing this by planning and than planting your Faery Garden so your flowers will start blooming in the next month. Some things I recommend to have for your faery garden will be listed below and keep a look out for a blogpost coming to go in depth on adding one of these to your yard and practice.

  • Build a Fairy House
  • Include moss and mushrooms
  • Include a butterfly feeder and water station
  • Plant Nectar producing flowers and plants

Duality And The Month Of June

Since, I am a grey witch I look for the duality in every single energy I work with including sacred times like a month of the year like June. June is really just overflowing with duality in balance and in almost every sense of the energy. First, let’s look at chronologically where this month lands, literally right in the middle. This really does put us into quite a liminal space of time. We seem to be struggling between celebrating coming this far into the year and understanding we also are on the way towards the end. I don’t know about you guys but, for me my desire to create, ideas for new projects, and a refueling of the passions for my goals really comes alive in this month. But, than I also feel the pressure of completing my goals by the end of the year which will be here sooner than I usually think.

Secondly, similarly to being in the middle of the chronological year this month also connects us to the sacred day of Litha and the sun. Which is the longest day of the year and when we greet the sun on it’s brightest and most potent day of the year. To then immediately feel it begin to fade and weaken when the sun sets and moon rises. It’s a fleeting yet potent time of transformation, rebirth and death happening all at once under the bright rays of the sun. Allowing us access to a very liminal space that shines with the bright rays of the sun while being overshadowed by the long coming night that is winter around the corner.

I could keep talking about the duality of June for much longer but, the last thing I will touch on is the duality we experience in the energy of love that is overflowing in June. When it comes to working with the energy of love I am sure some light workers will argue with me until the end of time that it’s all just wanted or positive energy. But, I disagree in order to love fully and unconditionally you must first do the work to allow the space to feel and receive that level of energy. This for most is a very uncomfortable, dark, and hard process. On top of that if you are working with the energy of love in the sense of a relationship, marriage, or union that means you have to be willing to experience some uncomfortable conversations. To go through some unwanted and uncomfortable feelings to grow together as well and fully experience what love is meant to do; heal, transform and assist you in evolution.

Allow the joyous, loving and Vital rays of the sun to shine onto you this June

We talked about many things in this blogpost including the history, some celebrations, the different energies and magical themes we can work with during this month, how to connect to those energies, deities we can honor and worship, and how to work with the magic of June. No matter how you choose to work with the energies and magic of June make sure to be focused on continuing your rebirth for this year. Make sure to use those energies and themes to nourish your seeds planted in March, that you watered in April, and you Nourished in May. Focus on making sure you are allowing the joyous, loving and Vital rays of the sun to shine onto your manifestations, intentions, and goals for the year. Allow them to soak up those rays so they can flourish, and grow even bigger than you ever imagined during the brightest, most loving, and the most vibrant month of the year.

Working with Lady Nada as an ascended master of the pink ray light

Beyond our ancestors, angels and spirit guides are there any guides willing to help us reach enlightenment? Willing and ready to help bring humanity into the next dimension and achieve harmony with one another and all that is? The answer is a resounding YES. They are called Ascended Masters in the spiritual community.

Revered as an ascended master and divine healer, Lady Nada’s spiritual mission ties with love, compassion, and healing, personal development, law/justice and ministering to others, reflecting her very nurturing, loyal, and devoted essence. She is connected to the mystical and elusive lands of Atlantis and the concept of twin flames and is also revered as the Chohan of the Pink Ray of divine love. She brings to those who choose to work with her knowledge of transformation and healing in all forms. She is gentle and kind but has a very strong focus with strength and empowerment within her. Let me guide you to the compassionate, loving, and devoted Lady Nada as an ascended master of the pink ray light in this blogpost.

First, what is an ascended Master?

Before we dive into the depths of love that is chohan Lady nada we must first talk about what an ascended master is. Especially if this is your first time working with one. I have already taught an in depth class on this topic as well with Divination Academy. You can watch it here.

The term “Ascended Masters” is somewhat new but the concept is ancient and crosses cultures worldwide. This group of spiritual beings has been guiding us since the beginning of time. It’s just that they’ve been called something else, including bodhisattvas, gods, saints, light elves, valkyries, the Hidden Company, psychopomps, the Mighty Dead, the Great White Lodge, archangels, Tzaddikim, archetypes, the galactic council, loa and more. As you learn more about these Ascended Masters, you’ll notice they can all be classified as something else. But the truth is, they are all elevated souls that are committed to helping humanity in its ascension.

Some were incarnated in a human body, while others have never incarnated. For those who came into an earthly body, after death they merged with their higher selves, sometimes called “light bodies” (Penczak, Ascension Magick). If we were to define a spiritual hierarchy between us and the Divine/Source, Ascended Masters would lie in between…in the middle. They are, essentially, mediums or channels of the Divine. And we can reach out and connect with these Ascended Masters in order to receive the Divine’s blessings and enlightenment. In this way Ascended Masters will act as guides, but their teaching is of the highest possible vibration and focused on ascension- helping you to raise your vibration and expand your consciousness.

In the past some thought to have an Ascended Master as a guide was rare, and something reserved only for advanced, old souls… But today it’s not rare at all. Today, we live in ascension times and everyone I’ve ever met, or seen or heard of, has had at least one Ascended Master with them.

Ascended Master Teachings

The Ascended Master Teachings, a collection of philosophies stemming from Theosophy but expanding on its foundational principles. These teachings offered more detail about the identities, histories, and roles of the Ascended Masters. Within the teachings, Ascended Master Lady Nada was recognized as a guide and healer, associated with divine love and compassion.

Later we see, The Bridge to Freedom, another branch of teachings based off Theosophy founded by Geraldine Innocente in the 1950s, which also played a crucial role in shaping Lady Nada’s narrative. Here, Lady Nada’s role was further refined, associating her with the concept of Twin Flames and further linking her to healing through the Pink Ray and Rose Flame.

Ascended Masters Vs Spirit Guides

Before we go any further talking about the ascended master Lady nada we must also discuss the difference between ascended masters and spirit guides. There is a difference between the two even though this is a debate of difference within personal practice. Some consider ascended masters simply a type of spirit guide and some do not. I follow the path that they are not.

The main difference between spirit guides and Ascended Masters, is that the Ascended Masters have fully ascended, while spirit guides have not.

Ascended Masters are free from the wheel of karma and the cycle of death and rebirth.  Now, from the realms of spirit they continue to walk their ascension path. Many Ascended Masters also choose to support and guide people on their ascension paths. To learn more about spirit guides, you can read more here in the study guide from my class with Divination Academy.

How Karma Relates To Ascended Masters

We all have karma or some version of it,  with the word “karma” meaning “to learn” which implies we all have lessons to learn. Which can be carried over from past lives and actions you’ve taken during your current life. However, with every pure action, you take from a soul level, for the greater good coming from love. This begins the process of clearing any “karmic debt” and putting you on the path to ascension and ending the karmic cycle of having to reincarnate in a physical human form.

Why It’s Worth Listening To The Ascended Masters Like Lady Nada

Ascended masters like lady nada were able to ascend by aligning with divine qualities and their true soul’s purpose and perspective, ascending above the limited views of the ego. Like connecting to and living the qualities of divine love. Doing this has led to their enlightenment and ascending this physical realm.

Which makes them not only divine wise beings but, they’re also spiritual teachers that understand through their own experiences the struggles and challenges that you are going through. Including heartbreak, betrayal, not understanding your true worth as a spiritual being, and how your temporary human form is just a drop in the ocean. The ocean that we are all connected by as one, temporary being expressed as a single drop.

The Seven Rays

When Working with an Ascended Master like Lady Nada you need to have a basic understanding of the seven rays of light. By understanding and following the path of the seven rays with the assistance of an ascended masters like lady nada you will uncover many hidden secrets, cosmic knowledge, and your most authentic self. You will know the once hidden secrets of the 7 rays and their qualities. Which are manifestations of the oneness we are all connected to and come from, and how to use them to accelerate your spiritual growth. Including assistance with almost anything else in your life, you desire including, healing, finding purpose, love, and more.

The seven rays are subdivisions that make up the main source of energy that we all come from and are linked to the oneness of all that is. The seven rays are an expression from the creator, God, the divine, the source, and qualities of the oneness everyone and everything comes from. The seven rays are living intelligent sources of divine light that give life to everything in the universe.

Each ray is governed by a Chohan (lord) also known as an ascended master that Rules over that ray. Chohan’ originates from Tibetan Buddhism and is often translated as ‘Lord’ or ‘Master.’ In the context of Ascended Masters and the Seven Rays of Light, a Chohan like Lady Nada is seen as the steward or overseer of a particular ray, embodying its qualities like love and guiding its use in the spiritual development of humanity.

Even though there is a lot behind the teachings of the seven rays that go far back in history. The main teachings are that each of the rays contains lessons for different paths of spiritual growth. And by learning all of these lessons you will understand and embody divine unconditional love.

There is currently a huge energetic shift happening on our planet and by being out of alignment or not learning the lessons from every ray. This will cause you to feel like something is missing or unstable in your life, even if on the surface by cultural standards you have everything together and are “successful”.

Who is Lady Nada?

Now that you have a basic understanding of what and ascended master is, and why you should be working with one, who is the ascended mater Lady Nada?

In one incarnation, Lady Nada is said to have worked on Atlantis in the healing arts and served as a priestess in the Temple of Love. She served in the Temple of Love, dedicating her divine work to fostering the spiritual attributes of love and compassion. She also was known as a lawyer on Atlantis, where she pioneered the efforts of divine justice for the unfortunate or forgotten members of society.

Lady Nada is all about awakening our heart center, and bringing us to divine love. Lady Nada opens our hearts to receive the divine love that we deserve and she also expands our heart to reveal the true, authentic, natural aspect of our very soul essence. Her role in the Temple of Love was not just to worship the concept of love but to emanate this divine feeling throughout Atlantis and beyond. By extending this vibration, she aimed to create a harmonious unity among its inhabitants.

Lady Nada was a high priestess working in not only the temple of love but, it was also known as the temple of self-transformation. She had great knowledge and understanding of the physical karma that affected the spirit and soul through the higher self that needed to be cleared. She had learned many techniques of healing such as sound, color, manifestation, working with crystals, working with anointing oils, herbs and counselling techniques, to heal the whole body. She taught this to the Priest’s and Priestesses of Atlantis that worked with her to heal the population that came to the temple.

Some even believe one of her incarnations she was the mother of John the Baptist, Lady Nada Portia. She was well known for her feminine energy and her beauty. Lady Nada focused on and worked with the Heart Chakra. This focus allows for the enhancement of feminine energy. She is also known to help balance the feminine energy within masculine spheres. Lady Nada is said to minister the world’s children via scores of angels focused on the youth. Because of this association with children and she helps us opening our heart, she can help us heal our inner child.

Lady Nada’s next life is thought to be in India where early on as a young girl her gifts came through extraordinarily and people were drawn to her she taught as a female guru working in this life time with yoga to help clear energy blocks in the body and working with food groups that can cleanse the body and restore balance.

Today, master Lady Nada is the patroness of teachers, nurses, ministers, lawyers and all those who place the needs of others before their own in their daily activities and choices. Lady Nada’s story demonstrates for us an example of disciplined action, employing the focused goal of selflessness in thought, word and action. It is said Master Lady Nada made her ascension nearly 3,000 years ago.

Lady Nada Chohan Of Divine Love

Lady Nada serves as the Chohan of the 6th Ray, often referred to as the Ray of love, devotion and idealism. I have seen it referred to as the pink ray of light and at times the violet ray of light. But is most commonly accepted as the pink ray of light. The pink Ray is associated with the qualities of love, compassion, service, devotion, and idealism. Lady Nada exemplifies these qualities in her teachings and works to inspire individuals to embody them in their own lives. Connecting To The Pink Ray Of Light

Connecting to ascended masters can be easier than you might think. Being that the Ascended Masters are ascended, it only makes sense that we work on our own ascension in order to fully connect with them.
The first way we can do this is to raise our vibration. How do we raise our vibration? We hear this phrase a lot in the magical community but often no explanation as to how to actually do it. First thing is purification. Of body, mind, and soul. This means releasing toxic habits and people from our lives. This may even include performing protection magics like chord cuttings, freezer jar spells, and banishing. W e also must clear our minds of negative thought patterns. And purifying our souls through energy work and cleansing rituals. In addition, here’s how else we can raise our vibrations and work with the Ascended Masters.

Meditation
Meditation is when we are in a state of reception. We quiet our minds, bodies, and souls enough to hear the Divine speak to us. We allow the Ascended Masters to show us things, teach us, heal us, communicate with us. Even if you think you’re bad at meditation, I promise you’re not. It takes practice and time. Try guided meditations. Try different kinds of music and atmospheres. You’ll find the right combination. Also make sure you are grounding regularly to help replenish energy to be able to meditate.

Meditation To Speak With Lady Nada

By focusing inwards, on your heart and taking several big deep breaths in through your nose, and exhaling through your mouth until you start to feel relaxed. If you know how to do boxed breathing you can use that skill here as well.
Now, get clear in your mind which ascended master you want to connect with and ask that master out loud or within your mind to come and assist you. This time it will be Lady Nada.
And then ask by calling her name Lady Nada
“Lady Nada, what negative energies are attached to me? What things are allowing me to not live my life based on love, devotion, and service to those in need.”
Pay attention to your inner voice…
Listen to your heart and internal guidance…
Now ask, “Where is my energy being drained?… Is anyone or anything draining my energy?…
Is it people, family…low vibrational entities?”
Now focus on your heart…
And with this awareness, ask “How do I release these negative energies and attachments?…”
Now continue to focus on your heart…
Notice any signs or sensations that come to you and your mind, Allow the pink divine energy from Lady Nada to flow through to and feel any negative energy begin to dissipate…
You are now Standing in your connection to love. With this deep connection, ask to be guided by love, compassion, and devotion to others.
Feel and see a sphere of pink light surrounding you and filling your entire body…
Filling your heart…
Infused with love and devotion…
Which are the highest and strongest protective energies that are now surrounding your aura.
Cleansing and releasing any stagnant low vibrational energies.
Now, thank lady nada and close the meditation. Knowing now you’re surrounded with love and pink divine light in your life going forward.

Become Reiki Attuned
It not only helps heal and soothe others, it has helped me heal myself in so many ways. In addition to having divine energy flowing through you, being a channel of the Universe allows you to be open to all the Universe wants to give. This includes becoming attuned to a specific Ascended Master.

Visualizations
Visualize and work with the color Pink through visualizing having the pink energy around you and in your sacred container and temples. You can visualize the color pink to have it included in any shadow work, meditation, spell work, and ritual work as well. Below is a visualization to help you start connecting with the color pink.
In a quiet, meditative container, close your eyes and begin to visualize a brilliant pink light surrounding you.
Focus on the sensation of the pink color, feeling its love, devotion, and service to others.
Imagine it permeating your entire being, aligning you with the energy of the pink ray.

Visualize Images of Love and Creativity
Focus on images that evoke feelings of love, creativity, and empathy.
This could include visualizing a loving embrace, a blossoming flower, a heart symbol, or any creative artwork that resonates with you.
Let these images fill your mind’s eye, connecting you with the loving and creative essence of this Ray.

Affirmations
Another way to work with the rays of light is something most of us are familiar with; which is affirmations. Affirmations can be used with almost any and all energies you want to connect to and work with. They do this in a lot ways but, mainly by helping us stay in tuned and aligned with those energies on a more constant and consistent basis.

“I ask Lady Nada to free the love in my heart with forgiveness and fill it with love, compassion, and the joy of serving others.”

“I feel surrounded by the energy and teachings of love everywhere around me.”

“I give love in abundance to others. I give compassion to those who seek it. I live to serve those in kindness.”

“I give love, guidance, and protection to those who need it most and can not advocate for themselves.”

Correspondences To connect to Lady Nada

First, what is a correspondence? A correspondence is an item or symbol that is meant to connect you to a specific energy thru it’s representation. It is seen also as an item to respect, honor, and venerate that energy as well whether it be a deity, an archetype energy , the zodiac energy the moon is currently in or for an ascended like I will list below for you to use. Keep in mind this in a very small list but, any correspondence that connects you to the divine light of love will do.

  • herb/flowers- roses, lavender, basil, cinnamon, jasmine, peony,
  • colors- pink, red, white
  • crystals/stones- rose quartz, garnet, ruby, red jasper, rhodochrosite

  • symbols- hearts, Atlantis, the ocean, couples

Lady Nada The Guide For Twin Flames

Lady Nada is often called upon for guidance and wisdom in twin-flame relationships and divine partnerships since she is the chohan of divine love. Twin flames are a connection that is intensely profound, filled with unconditional love, passion, and deep understanding and completion. She teaches that the ultimate purpose of twin flame relationships is not merely romantic fulfillment but spiritual growth and acceleration toward enlightenment.

Nada encourages individuals to view the challenges and struggles often associated with these relationships as opportunities for deep personal and spiritual development. Her guidance for twin flames focuses on fostering unconditional love, understanding, and forgiveness. These qualities, she suggests, are essential for the successful reunion of twin flames. She advises patience and trust in the divine timing, emphasizing that each twin flame connection has its unique journey and rhythm.

Lady Nada, The Pink Ray and Duality

Since I am a grey witch every single energy I work with I look at how it can help me maintain balance and how it can represent the cosmic energy of duality. This includes lady nada and the pink ray of light. Most would think with her being the chohan of divine love there can not be a balance and there could be nothing unwanted with that. But, I would say you are wrong. When it comes to fully encompassing divine love; that means you do so for all of humanity and those around you which requires being able to radically forgive and often. Doing that requires you doing some deep inner work and allowing unwanted emotions to be felt. You have to feel those unwanted emotions in order to make room for the all encompassing divine love you are connecting to. Along with putting yourself into a grey space or morality when it comes to loving fellow humans no matter what. For example; A human who has sexual abused or assaulted a child? How would you unconditionally love them? To do this you end up in a grey space and liminal space of morality and ethics.

Also love in the sense of a relationship isn’t always an easy and wanted thing to maintain and takes a lot of deep connection and willingness to experience uncomfortable and unwanted emotions, and conversations. Trust me I know I have been with my husband for 13 years now. Another reason why I would say you are wrong is when working with an ascended master the whole point is to transition and ascend. Which as I have talked about before is a very dualistic energy and forces us into some of the most liminal spaces within ourselves. In order to transition, transform, and ascend you must be in those liminal spaces to experience your death to be reborn.

Wrap Up

However you choose to work with Lady nada remember; She brings to those who choose to work with her knowledge of transformation and healing in all forms. She is gentle and kind but has a very strong focus with strength and empowerment within her that allows her to fight for you and protect you when it is needed. She will guide you to divine love through understanding all aspects of love/ This includes connections with others and yourself. She also gives a space of compassion and comfort to understand the impact traumas, grief, and tragedy have had on us. She teaches you that your love should extend far beyond yourself, your family, and loved ones to reach all those around you especially to those in need of it. Call on her as guide to help you connect to you source of divine love both within and without yourself to become your true soul self, and connect to your sacred purpose. Doing this could be your next step towards your own ascension even. And ultimately for the greater good of humanity!

I am not my mental illnesses, they don’t define who I am AND because, I live with them they do shape my reality

May is mental health awareness month. For many this points a spotlight on mental health and mental illnesses when they may not always think about it and they seek to learn more. While for others it may be a month to focus on improving mental health, healing, and using skills to create a life worth living while living with mental illnesses. Even yet, this month could be the push someone needed to seek help, treatment, or to go and get a diagnosis for the first time.

For myself it becomes a month focused on reflecting on how balanced I currently am, to check in with how well I am using mental health skills and techniques to maintain a healthy mental state, and to really look at my own personal relationship with my mental health and mental illnesses. While reflecting and really looking at my mental health and my relationship currently with mental illnesses this month was a little different for me than in past years because, I wanted to write about it. I have written and rewritten this post so many times this month because during my reflection process my answer would change. I would write an open letter about the illnesses I live with ( OCD, PTSD, Bipolar, BPD, and a few more) and it just wouldn’t feel whole. I would pick my favorite DBT skills to talk about this month and it wouldn’t feel like enough for bringing awareness.

So, I kept waiting, reflecting and rewriting and after a interpersonal conflict which put me in a really unbalanced and depressed state of mind. Where some things were said that were hurtful had pushed me to think about myself, my reactions, and if my view on reality were causing imbalance and unhappiness in my life. Which lead me to really think about the topic I landed on for this blogpost. The fact that I am not my mental illnesses, they don’t define who I am AND because I live with them they do shape my reality and how I experience the world.

I often forget that my mental illnesses don’t define me. I work so hard to try to raise awareness of these illnesses and how they affect your brain chemistry and makeup. I focus so much on wanting people to understand that these illnesses are not just in your head, they are real and they affect your brain chemistry and makeup. That at times I feel I almost let them become my whole identity unintentionally.

I also forget this when I start to struggle. I start to sink into the unwanted parts of my mental illnesses and I begin to believe that’s who I am and all the negative stigmas that are attached to them. When I feel overwhelmed by my symptoms, I try to remind myself that my illnesses are not me. I have to remind myself that my mental illnesses don’t disqualify me from being a mother, and that they can’t stop me from doing anything. I than remind others of the same thing once I am back to believing it, because sadly not everyone in my life agrees with this. Some believe that just having a mental illness means I shouldn’t even be mother.

While all the above is true and I work really hard to do my best to remember that and to remind others. The other half of this is recognizing that although they do not define me and who I am, my mental illnesses do shape my reality, how I experience the world, and how I interact with others. Some of the mental illnesses I have can never be “cured” and some I can’t be medicated for either. Though I can develop a healthy lifestyle based on therapeutic skills to help live a much more happy, balanced and stable life with them. They will always be apart of my life and my reality.

So, what does that mean and why does it matter? For myself I live with bipolar disorder and BPD which can cause some ping ponging on my feelings, thoughts, reactions, and even at times my beliefs. On top of that you through the extreme anxiety that comes with OCD and triggers from PTSD. This undoubtedly means my perception of reality will be affected by these things in ways others may not have to experience. On top of that it will affect how I interact with others and even with myself. This means I can’t allow myself to believe so deeply that I am not defined by my mental illnesses that I completely forget how they affect my perception and my place in this world. That I unintentionally put myself into denial of their existence and allow myself to not maintain healthy mental health and let my mental illnesses affect myself and my life in unwanted ways. This also means that when I interact with others I have to remember they may not be experiencing reality from my perception. And I ask others to do the same with me.

Whether you chose to read this because you live your life with mental illnesses or you have those in your life you love who do or simply to gain some insight and awareness. The main things I really want you to take from are the following. Living with a mental illness doesn’t define you. It doesn’t dictate who you are, who you can become or what you can accomplish. It may look a little different or you have to go a different path to get there but, they don’t dictate that at all. They don’t disqualify you from any part of a happy, thriving life you dream of. All you have to do is find the skills THAT HELP YOU achieve that. AND; still remember that you do live with them. They will affect your day to day life, how you view reality through perception and how you interact with and perceive others. Don’t allow yourself to forget that and neglect your mental health hygiene and skills and lead to unwanted effects resonating throughout the areas of your life.

Embrace The Transformation, Renewal, and Wealth of the 5/5 portal

Certain dates hold a special significance in the terms of celestial alignment and they create a portal through which we can access heightened energies, spiritual insights, and opportunities for growth. The 5th of May is a really important date as it is the 5th day of the 5th month of the year. This is known as the 5/5 portal. The May 5 Portal,is also known as the 5/5 Gateway or the Beltane Portal, and it occurs annually on May 5th. This date holds significance in various spiritual traditions, including astrology, numerology, and indigenous cultures as a time of heightened spiritual activity and cosmic alignment. It’s often thought that at this time, the veil between the physical and spiritual realms is thinner, putting the collective in a liminal space allowing us to access higher frequencies of energy to receive guidance, and blessings from the divine. This portal creates a powerful alignment of cosmic forces that opens a gateway to transformation, renewal, manifestation, abundance, and purpose. The energy will be ripe on 5/5, the ultimate portal of change, enlightenment, and finally seeing elements in your life “as they are” and not what you perceive. It is the portal that unlocks the door for us to begin a deep manifestation journey.

First, What is a portal?

A portal is an energetic gateway or doorway that creates a powerful opportunity to connect with higher energies. We can make the most of each portal if we work with the incoming energies and channel, anchor, and integrate them.

The importance of numbers
In numerology, every number from 0 to 9 is a symbol and is therefore highly significant. Symbols are the language of the soul and patterns of numbers work together like a code. We can use days like these to connect more fully and readily with our higher nature and choose to elevate our consciousness.

In numerology, the number 5 is considered a master of change, able to go with the flow and adapt to different environments and social situations.

The Meaning Of The 5/5 Portal

The Sun is in Taurus; the sign of prosperity and 5 is the number of money, abundance, and wealth, so this day is the perfect day to manifest everything we desire in harmony with the Universe and create the life of our absolute dreams and deepest desires. At its core, the 5/5 Portal represents a time of transformation and renewal; a chance to shed old patterns, beliefs, and energies that no longer serve us, and embrace new beginnings and possibilities. We can tap into the energies of the 5/5 Portal to initiate personal and spiritual growth, release stagnant energy, and align with our highest path and purpose.

Connecting with the Divine Feminine

In many spiritual traditions, the month of May is associated with the celebration of the divine feminine and the energies of fertility, abundance, and creativity. As we access the 5/5 Portal, we are invited to connect with the nurturing and life-giving qualities of the divine feminine, honoring the cycles of birth, growth, and renewal that are mirrored in the natural world around us.

The 5/5 Portal and Duality

Since, I am a grey witch every single energy I choose to align myself with I look for how I can connect to it in the sense of duality and balance. With this portal it may seem like, there is no way an energy swirling with abundance, wealth, manifestation, renewal, and transformation can be anything but, a wanted thing and a wanted energy? Well, every single energy we work with is dualistic and this energy is no different.

When you are making room to manifest, are setting intentions, and getting ready to receive abundance you have to release some things to allow that to even happen and to make room for that energy to be received. This can look like many things, from physically removing things in your life like habits and/or behaviors or doing inner work to release unwanted thought patterns not allowing you to receive. You also will be steeped in duality when it comes to transformation with this portal and energy. Transformation is a very dualistic energy itself. It brings you and forces you into a liminal space, where you are not who or what you once were, and you are not who or what you will be. It is taking you through the process of a death, and into a birth which is one of the most potent dualistic energies you can work with.

How To Work With Portals In General

Portal days are a prime opportunity to refocus on ourselves. Below are some ways you can do that with portals in general on portal days when they are open and active.

Listen to your gut feeling: Portal days are not the time for overthinking decisions. Instead, listen to your intuition and trust the inspirations that come to you on these days.

Movement: Energy needs to flow, so make sure you get enough exercise on portal days. For example, you could start the day with some yoga or plan a walk during your lunch break. This will ground you and sharpen your focus at the same time.

Get enough sleep: In order to be as physically and mentally prepared as possible, healthy sleep is essential. Portal days demand a lot from you, so make sure you get enough sleep or take short rest breaks in between.

Journalling and manifestation: Hold on to your thoughts and ideas by visualising them on a goal board or writing them down in your journal. This not only prevents you from forgetting them again, but also brings order to your potential chaos of thoughts.

Create rituals: Everything has a more intense effect on portal days. This includes the opportunity to create new rituals, reinforce existing ones or overhaul old ones. Rituals ensure consistency and can help us to really put our new insights into practice and integrate them permanently into our everyday lives.

How to use the 5/5 portal Specifically

The sequence of 555 denotes a time of life choices, major change, and opportunity. So, do your best to set intentions during that time. When you set an intention on 5/5 at 5:55, you can use this portal energy to your highest benefit. It’s a time of major manifestation and money magic. Below is one way you can do this on your own at the times when the portal is the most potent; 5:55 am and 5:55 pm.

Step 1: Identify what is holding you back
It is really helpful to identify any areas that are preventing abundance and prosperity to flow freely in our life. Look at what could be causing you to not fully transform, and may be causing you fear to blossom into the new version of yourself this portal is ushering you towards.

We can do this by asking questions or doing shadow work surrounding topics such as:

  • Where is my internal dialogue holding me back?
  • What limiting words and phrases am I using repeatedly in connection with money?
  • What restricting words do I use to describe my relationship with money?
  • Is my natural view of money blocking my flow?
  • Is there something or someone I am allowing to hold me back in fear?
  • Do I believe there is enough abundance for me to receive?
  • Do I believe I am worthy to receive abundance, blessings, and transformation?

If you would like to learn more about shadow work you can purchase my eBook here;  you can book me for a 1:1 session as your guide here; and you can watch my free class previously taught on it through Divination here.

Step 2: Letting go of old beliefs
Once identified, choose to let go of this old mental patterning and beliefs. Release it and let it go. Release the past, the lower vibrations and then choose to invite in the newer, much higher vibrations to take their place.Call in your spirit guides to help you if needed or a deity if you feel called too.

Step 3: Manifest
All we need to do then….. Sit quietly out in nature or inside in your sacred container.
If you are inside, light a candle or burn incense to cleanse and purify the container.
Hold a clear Quartz crystal, a single point if you have one.
Invite and visualize the 5/5 energies flowing down from the multiverse/ cosmos and flowing down from your Crown chakra on the in-breath.
Have the intention to anchor this energy within your body.
On the out-breath visualize this energy flowing down and continuing past your Root chakra and continuing down until it is deep within Mother Earth.
Just keep breathing in and out, visualizing the incoming energies flowing down through you and then down into the Earth.
Anchoring the energies within you and then grounding them into Gaia.
You are the channel.
The energies are passing through you.
They are activating cellular light codes within you.
Focus on the light and keeping your vibration as high as possible.
Do this until you are guided to stop.

Throughout the rest of the day make sure to;

  • Drink plenty of pure water.
  • Rest if you need too!
  • Express gratitude and go for a walk
  • Draw some oracle cards or do divination
  • Journal
  • Practice self care like a ritual bath

We can ask the multiverse to help us feel safe and secure and to know that we are enough and have always been enough. By releasing all limitations that we currently have, we can bring our highest potential to this world and shine like the incredible and expansive beings of light that we truly are!

Embrace The Transformation, Renewal, and Wealth of the 5/5 portal

There are many ways to work with the 5/5 portal like, ritual, ceremony, meditation, prayer, channeling, or sacred gatherings. These practices serve to amplify our intentions, deepen our connection to the divine, and align us with the transformative energies of the portal. We can use our own unique way to honor the 5/5 Portal and embrace its gifts of renewal and transformation. Embrace this sacred time as an opportunity for growth, healing, and spiritual evolution, trusting in the guidance of the multiverse/cosmos and the wisdom of our own inner knowing/ intuition.

Working With The Basics of Life and Magic; Energy

Energy! Nothing is solid; Everything is made up of energy.  Me. You. Your family. The chair you’re sitting on. Your bed. The ground you walk on. That’s why energy work is so important. The language of our higher self is spoken to us through our intuition and intuition communicates with us through the language of energy. It allows us to understand the world around us, both in practical everyday matters and in the mystical and sacred stuff!

Because we are always moving in a sea of energy, and that energy is feeding our energetic body, it informs us of what is happening around us.  It is important that we pay attention to how this process works.  Just as we can live better by knowing how the food we eat affects us, we can do the same with knowing how energy affects us, and how to nurture it and bring ourselves into mental and physical balance.

On top of this, we can use energy to pick up information around us and become more intuitive. Having great intuitive skills enhances our lives, giving us comfort knowing where to go and what to do through our inner guidance.   By learning how to develop our intuition coupled with learning about energy, we become powerful in our connection to divine wisdom.

Why knowing about energy is so important

Part of being good at rituals, spells, magick is having a solid relationship with energy. If you think about it with any magickal work that you are doing you are working with energy. It’s incredibly important to understand that energy and to know how to work with it in order to find the most success in your work.

You have to develop a relationship with energy in order to be able to work with it in the best way. Everything in the world is made up of energy so the more types of relationships you have the more success you will find.

Energy Work

What is energy work, and what are some of the options out there? Energy work is simply put tapping into the body’s own frequencies to promote well-being.

Energy work is any work that involves changes to the human energy field or subtle body. It is commonly used as part of a holistic healing regimen or alternative medicine. The practitioner makes adjustments to the flow of life energy using various techniques including acupuncture, acupressure or may use crystals or their own energy through Reiki or Laying on of hands.

Energy work is the intentional effort to manipulate your or someone else’s energy for spiritual, emotional, or physical healing. There are countless modalities of energy work practices in cultures around the world. You can perform energy work on yourself or seek it out from a professional.

Energy work affects both the subtle body system (the energetic body) and the physical body in various ways. The subtle body system shows up differently across cultures. Here are some of the subtle body systems we see across the world: chakras and nadis (Hinduism), meridians (Chinese Medicine), the three cauldrons (Celtic), aura (cross-cultural), Ojos de luz (Incan energy system), and the list goes on. Most cultures around the world have some reference of an energy or subtle body system.

Energy work and magic

Magic is probably the purest, the most basic, and the oldest form of energy work there is. Plus if you think about it almost all magical workings can be classified as energy work. Because magic itself is the practice of manipulating and changing energy. You do not have to practice witchcraft to do Energy Magic. You are just you. you have a power within you that is divine. This power allows you to merge, draw upon, and contain for a few moments an ancient force and then propel it in the direction where someone asks for help.

History

Energy work has been around for 1000’s of years across many cultures.

The ancient eastern medicine masters learned 5,000 years ago that energy makes up everything in the Universe, including our bodies and our minds.   While the Western world is beginning to scientifically prove that everything is energy, the Eastern philosophies have figured out how to manipulate it to create health, wellness and even abundance.

The spiritual tradition of energetic healing was commonly used throughout ancient India and China. In India, energetic work is based in the belief of Prana, or universal energy, breathing life into all things. In China, vital life-giving energy is referred to as Chi. Chi is made up of two opposing forces, Ying and Yang. When these forces are balanced, optimal health is displayed.

Energy Flow

All energy does is flow. It is us who have blockages that makes the flow of energy need to re-route itself. This stream of life-force energy is always flowing through you. The more you allow it the more it will flow.

Within the natural world there is a primal energy force. It is what people sense when they are out in nature, that uplifting energy that makes people feel better. But what we sense as humans only scratches the surface. This energy is as ancient as the Earth, and it stems from an energy that is as ancient as the Universe itself. Magic is created using this primal, natural force of nature. The caster of any spell is a conduit for this energy.

Energy System- Chakra system

Chakras are wheels of energy within our bodies and interwoven with our auras. If your chakras are blocked, negative vibrations, attachments and illness occurs. The seven chakras are the main energy centers of the body within Indian culture and practice within the buddhist and hindu religions. Chakra translates to “wheel” in Sanskrit, and you can imagine them like wheels of free-flowing positive energy. Chakras are used to describe the way energy “moves” throughout the body. Each of the seven chakras are said to correlate with different abilities, expressions, and types of health.

Each person has 7 major chakras aligned along the spine from the top of your head to the bottom of your spine. When energy flows freely through our chakras, it flows freely through our entire bodies including our physical, emotional, mental, and astral bodies. When the chakras are blocked or imbalanced, energy doesn’t flow and therefore causes issues throughout the person’s entire being.

Root Chakra

Your root chakra is a spinning wheel of energy located at the base of your spine. It’s color is dark red to black and links us to the energy of the earth beneath us. If you’re grounded and connected to the Earth’s energy, your root chakra will be unblocked and spinning freely. You attract financial prosperity and have a level head.

The Muladhara, or root chakra, represents our foundation. On the human body, it sits at the base of the spine and gives us the feeling of being grounded.

When the root chakra is open, we feel confident in our ability to withstand challenges and stand on our own two feet. When it’s blocked, we feel threatened, as if we’re standing on unstable ground.

When Your Root Chakra is Blocked…

When your root chakra is blocked, you may feel scattered and have financial problems or money blocks. You feel disconnected to the earth and anxious. You may even have back or hip pain or problems – reasons to unblock chakras ASAP. In addition, your spirituality may suffer when it comes specifically to ancestor work. Why? Because the ancestors dwell in the earth, in the roots of the World Tree below our feet. And as our root chakra connects us to the earth, it also connects us to our ancestors.

Sacral Chakra

Your sacral chakra is the wheel of energy located between your navel and coccyx. It spins in the area of your reproductive organs and is the color orange. The sacral chakra represents sexual health and creativity. When it’s unblocked, you express your sexuality in a healthy way AND creativity flows into all aspects of your life.

The Swadhisthana, or sacral chakra, helps inform how we relate to our emotions and the emotions of others. It also governs creativity and sexual energy. Those with a blocked sacral chakra could feel a lack of control in their lives.

When the sacral chakra is blocked…

Your sacral chakra governs sexuality, so when it’s blocked sexuality isn’t expressed or satiated. You may have blocked sexual energy, be confused about your sexuality, have low libido OR struggle with imagination and creative thought put into action. Illness, infertility and infection with sexual or urinary organs may also be present. For men – prostate issues may also arise. And, as the sacral chakra is located near the lower intestines and bowels, your digestive system may also suffer. Mentally, your creative ideas might not come to fruition if the sacral chakra is blocked.

Solar Plexus

Your solar plexus IMO is one of the most important chakras in your body. It’s located between the bottom of the sternum and above the belly button. The solar plexus is a yellow color and connects us to the divine energy of the sun and the light. It is your energy zone that supports self esteem, courage, and your personal power. If your solar plexus is healthy, you exude confidence and tackle goals with clarity and fervor. People may see you as vivacious and lively.

The third chakra, the solar plexus chakra, speaks to your ability to be confident and in control of your life. Think back to the last time you had butterflies or felt a pit in the stomach: That’s the Manipura chakra at work.

If your solar plexus chakra is blocked, you might feel overwhelming amounts of shame and self-doubt. Those with open sacral chakras are free to express their true selves.

When your solar plexus is blocked…

you may struggle with self esteem and confidence. You look in the mirror and don’t recognize your true power and beauty. Depression may result from a blocked solar plexus, as well as struggles with career paths, maintaining healthy relationships, making new friends, etc. Digestive illness and problems may surface. A blockage of masculine energy could also be present because of disconnection with the sun.

Heart Chakra

Your heart chakra is located over and through your heart. In the middle and middle-left of your chest. It’s green in color and manages all things related to love in your life – romantic love, friendships, family members, etc. It also governs self-love. If your heart chakra is freely aligned, you give and accept love freely, maintain healthy relationships, and love yourself wholly.

The Anahata, or heart chakra, is the bridge between the lower chakras (associated with materiality) and the upper chakras (associated with spirituality). As the name suggests, this chakra can influence our ability to give and receive love—from others and ourselves.

Someone with a blocked heart chakra will have difficulty fully opening up to the people in their life. If someone’s heart is open, they can experience deep compassion and empathy.

If your heart chakra is blocked…

you have trouble loving yourself and may engage in reckless behaviors to self-medicate the emptiness. Low self esteem and feeling isolated from others. You may be overly-defensive and don’t trust others. You may also have heart or lung problems. Arterial and vascular problems may also arise from a blocked heart chakra. If your heart chakra is imbalanced, you likely have problems loving yourself and others. And lose your fervor for love.

Throat Chakra

Your throat chakra is located over your throat in the middle of your neck. It’s blue in color and governs how you speak to others and how you speak of yourself. Communication is the key aspect of the throat chakra and relates to ALL forms of communication including writing and music. It’s how you express (or don’t) express your truth. If your throat chakra is functioning well, you communicate your feelings and needs with others in a healthy manner AND express your true self.

The Vishuddha, or throat chakra, gives voice to the heart chakra and controls our ability to communicate our personal power.

When it’s functioning at full capacity, it allows us to express ourselves truly and clearly. Someone with a blocked throat chakra will feel like they have trouble finding the words to say how they truly feel.

When your throat chakra is blocked…

you may have a problem with pathological lying or simply “stuffing down” your feelings. You are afraid to be yourself and express your truth. Communication is blocked in your relationships and with yourself. Throat, digestive and thyroid problems may occur.

Third eye

Your third eye is located between your brows, slightly above the bridge of your nose. It’s purple in color and allows you to see the truth in others, energy in the spiritual realms, and brings clarity of mind and soul. When your third eye is open, you see the beauty in the world and in others, as well as being able to see auras, invisible truths, etc. Your ability to tap into psychic awareness comes easily.

As we move up the body, we’re getting closer to communion with the divine. The Anja, or third-eye chakra, controls our ability to see the big picture and connect to intuition. Think of it as the eye of the soul: It registers information beyond the surface level.

Visions and intuitive hits are not uncommon for someone with an open third-eye chakra.

When your third eye is blocked…

You have a spiritual block and don’t see the beauty in others or the world around you. Signs from the universe go unnoticed. You feel disconnected from others and your own spirituality. Headaches, sinus infections, eye problems and other head illnesses may occur. This is a common chakra blocked with many people due to the way society functions. We are taught not to believe, not to see. To focus on what’s directly in front of us. And therefore, ignore our third eyes.

Crown Chakra

Your crown chakra is located at the very top of your head and is the color white. It is your direct link to the energy of the universe – to Source energy a.k.a. God, Goddess, or the Divine. Its your source of spiritual connection and gives you the ability to hear god’s voice, accept divine healing, and feel the presence of your guides and angels.

The Sahasrara, or crown chakra, the highest chakra, sits at the crown of the head and represents our ability to be fully connected spiritually. When you fully open your crown chakra—something very few people ever do!—you’re able to access a higher consciousness.

When your crown chakra is blocked…

you may not believe in god or any other power outside of physicality. Hearing divine guidance or feeling the presence of spirit guides is non-existent. You may feel “unlucky” or angry because of past traumas. You’ll feel disconnected spiritually and alone in the universe. Headaches, migraines, and other neurological illnesses may occur. Sensory processing issues could surface, as well as issues with dizziness and regulating temperature and sensory stimulus.

Chi-China

Chi is your life force, the energy that flows through you and through everything. It is that which gives you life.

The concept of chi (also spelt Qi) has its roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Martial Arts. But the idea of a vital life force energy and its role in our health can be found in many cultures. For example, in yoga and Ayurveda we describe this life force as Prana.

Chi energy moves through the body like breath and blood and is nourished by a healthy diet, enough sleep and movement practices, however its qualities go beyond the physical or tangible.

Chi can be described as the purest energy that arises out of consciousness, awareness, stillness – through you into your body and all expressions of life. Chi in short can be described as the essence of your true self. Chi is the bridge between physical form and pure awareness

Chi energy is like a bridge between your form, which is your body, your thoughts, emotions, sensations, and the formless which is your essence, consciousness, awareness. In a way, when we trace chi back from form to formless, this is the journey of being on the spiritual path. Various practices including Qigong, Tai Chi, yoga, pranayama (breathing exercises), acupuncture and working with marma points all work to support the free flow of chi or prana. They work on strengthening chi and removing any blockages.

The Three Celtic Cauldrons

What is it? Well, the Cauldron of Poesy is a medieval Irish bardic poem extolling the virtues of a trio of metaphysical cauldrons located within the human body.

The three cauldrons the poem talks about are the Cauldron of Warming, the Cauldron of Motion, and the Cauldron of Wisdom. Each cauldron is positioned in a different part of the human body. The Cauldron of Warming is located within the pelvic region, in the depths of our bellies. The Cauldron of Motion is located in the center of the chest, where our heart and lungs reside. Lastly, the Cauldron of Wisdom can be found within our head or sitting on top of it like a crown.

The poem further explains that when we’re born, these spiritual cauldrons are situated differently. Upon birth, the Cauldron of Warming is found in the upright position—basically how we expect a cauldron to sit normally. It is said to contain the basic energy and wisdom we need to live, breathe, grow, and survive at the instinctual level. It can be upset by sickness or unhealthy choices, though.

The Cauldron of Motion is supposedly on its side when we are born, meaning that it is partially empty. Being situated close to the heart, we can connect the Cauldron of Motion to what inspires us—what makes us move. As we pursue what we love and immerse ourselves in culture, the cauldron shifts into the upright position. When we deny ourselves artistry and emotional exploration, we can feel drained and unbalanced. If we immerse ourselves too much, we can flood ourselves and unbalance ourselves physically and mentally.

Lastly, we come into the world with the Cauldron of Wisdom completely overturned and empty. This cauldron guides our spiritual development—exploring the divine, our own places in the universe, and each other. We can upright and fill this cauldron as we become aware of our purpose and seek to make wise choices on our paths.

Each cauldron can be in one of three positions: upright, tilted, or inverted. The position indicates the ability of a cauldron to function. An upright cauldron can hold and ‘cook’ its ingredients; a tilted cauldron allows ingredients to slip away; an inverted cauldron cannot hold on to anything.

Why to use this method?

It resonates with a threefold idea of how many have viewed human consciousness/divinity. Coincidentally, there are a multitude of practices and belief systems from all over the world that see the human soul as being made of three parts. In the Modern Tradition of Witchcraft, we identify the three parts as the animal/physical self (our most basic raw form), the conscious self (that which is aware on this plane—it has reason, emotion, and artistry), and the self-divine (our connection to the tapestry of the universe, the gods, and our own god-selves). So we could connect each of the parts to a different cauldron: animal/physical self to the Cauldron of Warming, conscious to the Cauldron of Motion, and self-divine to the Cauldron of Wisdom.

kabbalistic tree of life in Jewish mysticism

a 2,000 year old poem is a description of Ten Sefirot-Ten Energies is the basis for the Tree of Life –a Kabbalistic map developed in the south of France in the 12th century in the mystic school of Rabbi Isaac the Blind. The Tree depicts the flow of energy from the infinite source (above)to the finite expression/manifestation (“below”).

In Transformational Kabbalah the Tree of Life becomes a pragmatic tool for seeing how and why things, people, and events manifest in our lives -and how and why we go about creatively manifesting things, people, and events.

Prana

Life force (Prana) simply means energy. All matters in the universe are made up of energy. It is not just about our physical body we are talking about here. Even, our thoughts and feelings are also energy waves which actually can be measured through proper instruments. Pranic healing requires no physical touch. Pranic healing is a three-step process in which it accelerates the body’s inner healing ability to heal at all levels like physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

Medicine Wheel

The medicine wheel (also called the Sun Dance Circle or Sacred Hoop) is an ancient and sacred symbol used by many Tribes. It signifies Earth’s boundary and all the knowledge of the universe. The Indigenous medicine wheel represents the alignment and continuous interaction of the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual realities.

The Medicine Wheel, sometimes known as the Sacred Hoop, has been used by generations of various Native American tribes for health and healing. It embodies the Four Directions, as well as Father Sky, Mother Earth, and Spirit Tree—all of which symbolize dimensions of health and the cycles of life.

Quantum Healing

Quantum healing is a pseudoscientific mixture of ideas which purportedly draws from quantum mechanics, psychology, philosophy, and neurophysiology. Advocates of quantum healing assert that quantum phenomena govern health and wellbeing.

Quantum healing is a term coined by Deepak Chopra to describe how our thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect the way we experience illness and health in our lives. According to this principle, our consciousness does not just control the function of our brain and nervous system.

Working with your Energy- Raising the Vibe

You have probably heard others talking about raising their vibe or going to a higher vibration. When they are saying this they are talking about energy work.

When you raise your vibration you become consciously aware of your mental and emotional state. As this awareness increases so does the perception of your blocks. But keep in mind that this is all good information.

A lot of people think that raising your vibration means that you’re going to feel better, lighter, and even imagine stepping into fantasy picture of riding in on a unicorn. Additionally, while “raising your vibration” sounds like a lovely result, (and of course it is), its the entire process that will show you where you are out of balance with that higher vibe.

Let’s say for instance, you want to be more loving. So your light body will begin to hold more love. But as you hold more love, you will be shown all the frequencies that are out of alignment with love. This is not the fun part. So now you are seeing things like hatred, trauma, disgust, rejection all come to the surface because you are holding more light, and these shadows can no longer be hidden.

But hang in there! Don’t throw away all your amazing work just because it is getting hard. It’s all part of the experience. You actually have the chance here to do the spiritual healing work to release these stale emotions, memories and experiences that will change your entire life!

With a higher vibration, you’re able to hold higher states of consciousness and this consciousness lift will help you move through your inner blocks more and more quickly.

Raising Your Vibration means that a lot of your old trauma, past memories, and old energy is revealed so that you can heal it and bring in a new higher vibration to hold in your mind, body and soul.

Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese style of bodywork founded by Mikao Usai. The name translates to “spiritually guided life force energy”.  It is a spiritual and vibrational healing intervention without the involvement of physical manipulation. Reiki is spiritual in nature but is not a religious practice, the intent is to maintain physiological balance through a subtle vibrational field.

Reiki has been used to treat ailments alone or as a supplemental treatment to promote recovery and enhance the quality of life.

To learn more about reiki you can watch the Divination class series on it below.

Polarity Therapy

This method was founded by osteopathic physician Randolph Stone in 1947. Polarity Therapy is a holistic wellness practice used in alternative medicine. Inspired both by Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese Medicines, the intent is to rebalance the distribution of energy throughout the body using a mix of bodywork, exercise, nutrition, and counseling to alleviate or prevent health issues.

Ayurveda

Ayurveda is derived from the Sanskrit words ‘ayur’ – life and ‘veda’ – knowledge, translating to knowledge of life. This natural medicine practice originated in India over 3,000 years ago and is based on the idea that diseases are a result of an imbalance within one’s consciousness. In India, Ayurvedic medicine is regarded as equal to conventional Western medicine.

Ayurveda treatment starts with an internal purification process, followed by a special diet, herbal remedies, massage therapy, yoga, and meditation. The primary concepts of the practice are universal interconnectedness, the body’s natural constitution (prakriti), and life forces (doshas). Herbs, plants, oils and spices are all commonly used in Ayurvedic treatment.

Currently there is no national standard in the US for Ayurvedic medicine, so be sure to research your practitioner’s background and experience and consult your medical professional before using herbal medicine.

Centering

Centering gives you perspective on your own energy by allowing you to differentiate between what is yours and what is in the environment around you.

Think of centering like cleaning up your house after several weeks of not putting things away where they live. There are half-finished projects, maybe a couple dishes, you haven’t unpacked a shopping bag. All of those material possessions belong somewhere.

It’s the same with your energy. Whenever you experience extreme emotions,  little bits of your energy can become detached. This can make you feel sort of, spread too thin. Centering helps you to call back and reattach all your bits of energy and helps you feel whole again.

If you don’t have any energy fragments scattered around, centering can simply gather and focus your energy so that it’s ready to work toward your next intention. To learn more about centering send me a message on facebook and ask me how to get access to my witchcraft basics bootcamp for a week of detailed work on centering!

Method:

Lay down or sit comfortably. Enter a meditative state by focusing on your breathing.

Find your center. This is the place where all of your energy radiates from. For me, this is the center of my pelvic region in my root chakra. Some people find their energy center is the middle of their forehead at the third eye chakra. Yours may be somewhere else entirely. Wherever it is, feel the energy circulating from it.

Now visualize that you—and your energy center—are the nexus of a galaxy. Orbiting all around you are stars and planets and comets and meteors. These are your energy fragments.

Notice that some of the orbits are large while others are nice and close to the center. Feel the gravity of your center grow and pull the furthest fragments of energy closer to you.

As the gravity of your center continues to grow stronger, the bits of your energy galaxy circulate right near your center. Everything is back in it’s home, and your energetic universe is harmonious.

At this point, you are centered and can ease yourself out of the meditation. Sometimes it’s nice to hang out in your energy galaxy, though. It’s a good opportunity to close up any energy leaks and to get to know your energy a little better.

Take note of how you feel in contrast to how you felt before you centered.

Grounding

Grounding is a term used to help center and calm a person’s energy and emotions. It is a process that helps us to energetically and physically connect deeper to the healing frequencies of the Earth and puts us more in a present state of awareness.

Grounding is a way to connect you to the earth and to your purpose. It gives you the opportunity to take a strong stand in your intention.

To learn more about grounding you can learn about it here in the study guide from my previous class I taught on it. Grounding &earthing

Breathwork

What is breathwork? It’s breathing, but not like you know it. Think of breathwork like an active meditation, where you change your breathing pattern to boost mental, physical and spiritual health.

Breathing also helps move energy and you can use the breath to facilitate its movement in and around your body.  As you breathe in, imagine drawing in pure divine energy.  This can be very powerful.  As you breathe out you can imagine you are sending energy out in a particular direction.  Send out the negative energy you may have accumulated, sort of like dirt or pollution, into the ground where it will be neutralized.

Sound Healing

Sound Healing is a powerful therapy that combines different healing sounds, music, and sound healing instruments to improve our multidimensional well-being by creating a beautiful experience where all layers of our luminous energy field (body, mind, soul, spirit) are awakened gently and lovingly.

Integral Sound Healing is highly effective at triggering our relaxation response, which counters the many symptoms caused by chronic stress, while helping to balance our whole being.

Sound Healing Instruments that are easy to play can be applied both on the body and off-the-body, whilst also incorporating vocal sounds and tones.

Sound Therapy techniques are delivered using instruments such as Tibetan and crystal singing bowls, gongs, drums, tuning forks, and more, both during a one-on-one sound healing session or sound bath

Work with crystals

Crystals are such amazing tools to help us harness energy and use it in a much more effective way in our lives, and magical practices. Using crystals help us be in alignment with the energies surrounding us and can also help us call on certain energies when we want to use them.

Crystals come directly from the earth and therefore vibrate with healing earthly energy. All of our medicines come from the earth and so why can’t natural resources also provide some sort of healing? They can! This includes crystals and stones of various types and colors.

Thought alignment

An important key to working with energy, is using your thoughts.  Energy follows thought. Using your thoughts and your imagination are the tools for directing, manipulating and controlling energy.

With every thought we think, energy reacts to that thought by moving.  So learn how to manipulate your energy and the energy around you with your imagination.  When you do so, you’ll tap into your intuitive guidance system because energy is the language of your intuition. By moving energy with your intention and your imagination, you can control and move energy to pick up intuitive information about things. For example, you can expand your energy field to connect with a place or area you would like to pick up intuitive information about.

Protection And Energy

There are ways you can shield yourself from negative energy or energy that you don’t want to experience. The amplitude of your energy, which is the LOUDNESS of your energy, will overwhelm the energy of other things. Have you ever noticed that when you’re near someone who is extremely happy and excited, the energy rubs off on you? By the same token if you are near someone who is very, very depressed, sad and down, that you feel it as well? Sometimes their energy is so “loud” that you can’t help but absorb it and feel the way they do. If you are a sensitive person you’ll pick up and absorb all the nuances of that energy until it becomes yours. The solution is to turn up your own energy so it shields you from energy of those around you. If your energy is ‘louder’ than the “Negative”nergy around you, you will drown it out and not be affected by it. You can stay light and happy yourself. Remind yourself to observe those people and not absorb their feelings, thoughts and energy. Remember energy follows thought. If you can’t do that, then your intention can create an energetic shield against the negative energy.

Here’s how to do that.

Step 1: Pull your energy back in to yourself – close to your physical body with your intention.

Step 2: Imagine a shield, like a force field, or a wall made of steel, titanium, or diamond, whatever is strong to you.

Step 3: You can physically move away from the ‘source’.

You can imagine being in an energetic egg of protection with energy that allows the good to come in but the bad bounces off. You can also use a physical shield, by putting something between you and the negative energy source, or simple step back, or walk away.

To learn more about ways to protect yourself you can watch my two previous classes on the topic here;Magick And Witchcraft Basics: Protection and Warding Part 2

Shielding

The last energy work type I’ll discuss here is called shielding. In my opinion, this is the most important energy work practice that you can learn as an energy manipulator. If you can commit to starting a daily shielding practice and keeping it up, you are committing to keeping your energy safe and secure.

Shielding is a way of keeping your energy safe. You set up a barrier to separate the feelings, emotions, and thoughts of others from your own space. It can prevent energetic vampires from draining your energy, and it protects your energy from spirit attacks and other unfriendly things. It’s a great way to help protect empaths from absorbing all of the negative emotions of other people as well.

Shielding can be especially useful before going to areas with lots of people like a concert, convention or fair. These types of events have a lot of free-floating energy that can be overwhelming.

You can build a shield around anything you want to protect: your loved ones, children, and pets, your home, your car.

Method:

Ideally, you would ground and center before you build a shield.

Sit down or lie down. You could stand up to do this, but it helps to close your eyes, which—while standing—could potentially make you get wobbly.

Visualize your body surrounded by a sphere of glowing light. Make sure it completely surrounds you with no cracks or weak areas.

Imagine the light forming to your body like a second skin. Let it lock into place around you.

Now visualize that the outside of this shield is shining and reflective like a mirror. Imagine negative energy coming toward you and bouncing off the mirror back to its sender.

This is a basic, yet effective method of shielding yourself from negativity. Do you feel safe and protected after shielding?

Alternatives:

If this shield doesn’t feel strong enough to you, or it just doesn’t feel right, try something else. Here are some other ideas for shields you can test that may feel more comfortable or satisfying. Construct them in the same way, by visualizing them surrounding you.

  • A whirlpool or hurricane of water swirling around a calm eye of the storm where you are
  • Big gusts of wind or a tornado blowing around you and sending away negative energy
  • A sphere of burning flames to incinerate any negative energy that tries to get close
  • Mountains of solid, impenetrable rock
  • A tangle of thorns sticking out away from you, with beautiful flowers on the inside
  • Clouds of smoke and mist that obscure you from enemies
  • Anything else you can imagine! Whatever feels right to you.

Working with the magic of March; Rebirth, planting seeds, and purification

The snow is beginning to melt, the scent of decay is all around as the plants unthaw and use the nutrients they’ve been hibernating in to come back to life. We hear the chirping of birds and critters running around among the foliage. All around us we see the awakening of the earth from its winter slumber and the emergence of new life sprouting. March is a time to focus on renewal, rebirth, fertility, growth, prosperity, and fruitfulness. March is the month we welcome the first rays of sunshine of spring and we begin to feel the harsh Winter start to dissipate. It’s the month we stop going inwards to look behind us and instead we look ahead with hope. We begin to prepare for planting our crops, and the return of the beloved Sun and the Spring. This is the most fertile time of the year to plant seeds of intention for manifestation for the rest of the year. Lay them in the ground that has been hibernating soaking up nutrients all winter long. March is the month when we watch as Winter slowly fades off, the days become noticeably longer, and spring is waving at us just over the horizon. March is a month of deep, profound, transformational change. Let’s spring into March and look at all the ways you can connect to the energy of March to allow yourself, your magic, and your intentions to really bloom and blossom this year.

History In The Month Of March

The month of March is the 3rd month of the Julian and Gregorian Calendars but was originally the first month of the Roman calendar year, called Martius named for Mars, one of the most important Gods of the Roman state. This month later took on a little more significance in history when it became known for the Ides of March. Also known as March 15th, the date of the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44BC and later making it considered an unlucky day by many and for some still today it is considered an unlucky day.

Zodiac signs for the month of March

Those born in March are said to be born under either the sign of the two fishes Pisces or the headstrong ram Aries.

Sacred Days And Celebrations In March

Every Single month has sacred and important days and celebrations to help you connect to the energies of the month. Plus they usually are a lot of fun to take part in! Below you will find a list of the sacred days and celebrations for the month of March! The common themes you will find are fertility, new beginnings, the welcoming of spring, the rebirth of the sun, renewal, and hope. Also take note how this month has a lot of really important holidays taking place all around the rebirth of the sun. Plus all the ideas of hope, joy , and celebration of surviving the long harsh, cold winter together. But, first we are going to talk about a few that take centerstage during this month like the hope in new beginnings with the spring equinox and Ostara.

The Spring Equinox and Ostara

The Spring Equinox is celebrated with many different holidays and traditions like the most common one being Ostara on the wheel of the year. This time is ripe with fertile energy all about growth, rebirth, planting seeds for harvest, and duality. The Spring Equinox aka Vernal Equinox, is the time when day and night are equal. During this time, the direct rays of the sun hit the equator, making day and night equal in length. The most important part of the day is when the sun hits its zenith, the precise moment when the sun is perfectly lined up with the equator. This moment marks the first day of spring, with the light triumphing over the darkness. Which is why we see so many cultures celebrating it with festivals like Ostara. Ostara is the celebration of rebirth and renewal, it is the Sabbat; a holiday marked on the pagan wheel of the year. Ostara is one of the eight Sabbats in the Wheel of the Year calendar. Ostara, is the dawn of the fertile season on the Wheel of the Year. The word Ostara comes from the Anglo-Saxon goddess name, Eostre. Eostre represented spring and new beginnings. It marks the start of the astrological year as well and is considered the New year for many different cultures and tribes around the world as they welcome back the sun. If you want to learn more about this sacred day you can read my guide all about it HERE.

St. Patrick’s day

The month of March later became even more significant with the arrival of St. Patrick’s Day in 461 BC. St. Patrick’s day is on March 17 which refers to the anniversary of Saint Patrick ‘s death in the year 461. Still considered Ireland’s patron saint to this day, Saint Patrick was born in the 4th century in Great Britain. Now, this holiday is packed with parades, good luck charms, and all things green. The event started as a religious holiday, but over time it’s become a celebration of Irish culture and excessive drinking. Now, keep in mind there are a lot of myths around this day and a lot of misrepresented history. Like some saying the “snakes” he drove out were pagans and others arguing that is untrue and being used to oppress them even today. I might be writing an article covering all the different stories around this holiday but, until then I recommend to look at all the different stories surrounding this holiday.

March Magical & Witchcraft Themes

In magic and witchcraft, March is often associated with themes of rebirth, renewal, and transition to name just a few. As the month marks the arrival of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, it symbolizes the awakening of the earth from its winter slumber and the emergence of new life. With March being named after and associated with the planet mars it is deeply connected to vitality, fertility, and the movement of energy in getting things done. This makes it one of the most fertile months for manifestation, growth, and planting new seeds.

With March being the bringer of spring, the bringer of new life; it is the ideal time for us to literally plant seeds in the ground for us to harvest in the fall to feed our families through the long harsh winter. This makes it a month not only about the fertility and potential waiting in the ground but, also a month that allows us to look forward to the year ahead. A month to welcome in joy, hope, and endless possibilities with the rebirth of the Sun. This month is ripe with the energy of fertility, new beginnings, and possibilities. This energy of new beginnings also comes with a sense of cleanliness, the need to purify. Channel into this energy when setting intentions, doing manifestation work, and your magical workings this month and watch them bloom like never before.

Another key theme with spring and the point of the wheel of the year we are tuning our energies into with the month of March is renewal, rebirth, and transition. These themes make it a very key time to be willing to go deep within yourself to connect to your true creative force. To figure out how to awaken that force within you that makes the courageous moves towards making your goals and dreams come true. Now that the earth is unthawing from the Winter. It is a month to maintain balance, and to work with your duality and shadow. When doing this you allow yourself to be open to the massive amount of transformational, transitional, and renewing energy this month has to offer.

The Gods And Goddesses Of March

With every season and month there are certain themes, magic, and energies we have the ability to connect to including deities.Everyone works with and views deity energy a little differently. Whether you view them as archetypes of the human consciousness, representations of the source energy, or as being entities on their own, there are certain deities that now is the time to connect to and honor them in the most sacred and amplified way.( Don’t forget to grab my eBook in the shop to help you explore this)

During this month a few deities take center stage because they have festivals or sacred days during this month to help you connect with them in a very intimate way. The deities that are going to be the best for you to connect to right now are going to be those who represent spring , the changing of the seasons, and the sun; like Persephone and Demeter. Especially since this is the time of the year those two are together on Earth. Deities that can connect you to fertility, fruitfulness, and growth are also great to call to this time as well. Don’t forget one of the most pivotal moments of this month is when the sun is reborn with joy and hope. So, don’t be afraid to connect with deities of the sun as well!

This time is also a very liminal time. This month gives us access to one of the two times during the year the veil is the thinnest, and we can have access to other realms and the crossroads with much more ease. Deities that have the ability to bring you wisdom, guidance, and access to you shadow shelf like Hecate, the Morrigan, and Persephone are amazing to call to and work with during this time. Being guides with you along the road to renewal as the season change to spring preparing you for fresh new growth. Below we will talk about some of the deities you can work with this month. I could never list them all here.

Persephone

First up, the goddess who has held my heart for many years. The one I rejoice during this month as I greet her again as she returns from her quality time with her beloved Hades; Persephone. In Greek mythology, Persephone is the goddess of agriculture, the spring, the Underworld, duality, and the wife of Hades. Prior to her marriage with Hades she was known as Kore, which means “daughter” or “maiden”. I find this to be crucial to her story and representation of rebirth, because, before she grabbed power in her marriage to Hades, the gods hadn’t even given her a name or her own place of power. Which makes no sense to me because she was born from two of the most powerful deities. Persephone is the daughter of Zeus, the chief god, and Demeter, the goddess of agriculture. For her to have such little power, be sheltered, and not have her own place of power within the pantheon was in injustice she would rectify through the power of rebirth and duality by becoming Hades wife. As the wife of Hades, Persephone governs the realm of the dead by his side with grace, compassion, and might. Persephone’s presence in the Underworld brings a sense of balance between life and death. While Samhain marks Persephone’s descent into the underworld when she ascends to her throne as the queen of the underworld. Spring marks her journey and ascent, some say guided by the torch light of Hecate back to Earth. To spend her agreed upon quality time with her mother. With her return we also see the return of lush green grasses, plentiful fields of grains, and sweet smelling flowers decorating the landscape as they bloom. Persephone’s return is associated with the fertility of the earth and the abundance of the harvest, signifying a time of growth, vitality, and the fulfillment of potential. Her story during this month reminds us of the need for balance between life and death, darkness and light, and the constant cycle of change that occurs in nature and in our own lives. Allowing us to move forward from the darkness and introspection into a place blooming with growth and the life of new beginnings. She encourages us to embrace change and new beginnings to fully claim the power that was always rightfully ours. To learn all about this alluring, intriguing, and transitional goddess, and see her story in a whole new light. Plus meet her in a guided meditation you can watch my class all about her here! Plus I promise you will be getting a guide to work with her soon!

Estore
Next up we have one of the most important goddess of spring is; Eostre. She is the Germanic goddess of fertility, rebirth, and dawn. Sometimes referred to as the goddess Ostara, this deity was associated with springtime because this was the season when the days began to lengthen and the sun became stronger. She was also associated with the hare and the egg, which were symbols of fertility and new life. Unfortunately, we don’t know much else about her or how she was worshipped since we only really see her name in passing outside of one text. She’s mentioned in the writings of an 8th century monk known as Venerable Bede, who reported that pagan Anglo-Saxons in medieval Northumbria held festivals in her honor during the month of April.

Inanna -Ishtar

Inanna is a primal ancient goddess who emerged from the Cradle of Civilization as we know it now; Mesopotamia. Some know her as Ishtar while others know her as Inanna-Ishtar. Inanna is the Goddess of Fertility, Love, Procreation, War, Death, and Spring: she is a complex Goddess embodying ALL aspects of the divine feminine. Ancient peoples who went against the gender-binary were cult members. She is a goddess who brings self-empowerment, protection, love, strength and abundance. She will aid in your spiritual endeavors and will also help heal and bring to light your shadows. Inanna is a fierce goddess who dominated the gods’ realms, boldly journeyed through the Underworld, and acquired her innate wisdom from the god Enki. Her worship involved celebrating the spring equinox and the renewal of life. She is even featured in the Epic of Gilgamesh, Inanna and the Huluppu-Tree, and The Descent of Inanna. Plus the “Ishtar Gate” was part of Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylon. While she is a goddess of ancient Sumerian origin, her worship eventually spread throughout the ancient Middle East to Akkadia, Assyria, Greece and Phoenicia (among others). Her name means “Lady of Heaven”, derived from ancient Sumerian word nin-a-nak. She is often portrayed as a beautiful young woman with a pair of wings. Her sacred animal, the lion, accompanies her in her travels. Inanna carries her symbol, the eight-pointed star, in most manifestations. The Queen of Heaven sits upon a lion throne and holds a snake-scepter. Working with her this month allows you to connect to one the most primordial energies we have representing the return of Spring.

Mars

Last up, we have the deity this month is named after; the Roman god of war and protector of crops Mars. He is a powerful deity associated with military power, aggression, and conflict. Mars is the Roman God of war, and one of the most important Gods in ancient Rome, second only to his father Jupiter. One of his most important festivals kicks off this month on the first; Feriae Marti. He is the son of Jupiter and Juno. Plus the father of Romulus and Remus, the legendary founders of Rome; whom we just celebrated last month during Lupercalia. By the way he fathered with the priestess Rhea Silvia by rape. This is why many Romans considered themselves the sons of Mars. Mars represents strength, courage, and the relentless pursuit of victory, often depicted with symbols like the spear, shield, and the wolf or woodpecker, animals sacred to him Since he represented the virtue and strength of nature and youth, he was often part of rituals dedicated to military practice. Especially, the ancient Italian practice of Ver Sacrum, the Sacred Spring: when citizens made the sacred decision to remove the new generation from the territory as soon as it became adults .Essentially sending them out to found new communities and military strongholds. It was though that, Mars welcomed the expelled young people under his tutelage and protected them until they founded a new community. Working with him this month allows you to connect with the energy of renewal with a bold strength and boundless courage.

Duality and the month of March

Since, I am a grey witch I look for the duality in every single energy I work with including sacred times like a month of the year like the one we are currently in, March. This month is a really easy one for me to connect to the duality of it. As the phrase goes “March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb”. It is a month that starts with a fierce, bold, strength as we will still have the last few stormy weeks of Winter left. Then it ends with the caring, gentle, and welcoming embrace of the blooming Spring. As we walk around in nature we see the duality in stark clarity as well. As we take in the snow not yet melted on the ground, the scent of death from the plants just beginning to peak out , the sound of bird chirping as they jump from tree to tree, and the air no longer has a stinging cold bite. This month also marks the duality of the transition point we all experience when the sun is reborn on the March Equinox. The March equinox marks the solar waxing energies of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere and the waning energies of Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere happening simultaneously. No matter where we are in the world we can tap into the duality that expresses itself in so many ways on this sacred day. This includes: Yin and Yang, waxing and waning, giving and receiving, Ascent and descent, Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine, light and dark, beginnings and endings, (re)birth and death (embodied in tales such as that of Persephone and Inanna). Not only that in many religions and cultures around the world, their God is reborn or rises at Spring like with Jesus in Christianity and Osiris in Egypt. Lastly the dualities of this month are seen in the Seed itself that we plant during this month. The seed which manifests in both Spring and Autumn in different ways. While also representing the cyclical nature of life and death itself that permeate the month of March as well.

Use SMART Goals To Up-level Your Life Today!

I have been feeling this strong pull to talk about goals all week now. Maybe it’s because we entered March this month and by now at least 43% of us who set goals around the New Year have already given up on them or hit huge obstacles to deter us. Maybe it’s because, I have had to do so much adjusting to my own goals already this year because, of life changing, my family needing different levels of my time and support now, and honestly I really was unprepared for what my new goals were actually going to entail and how much my life was going change with it all. I have had to rewrite, and re-evaluate my goals and personal development plan many times already this year to make sure they are still SMART goals for me.

Goals have many benefits to having them intentionally in your life. I know some people reading this blogpost will know what goals are and already use them intentionally pretty often in their lives by using things like bullet journals, vision boards, and creating 5 year plans. While others reading this post will know what goals are but, loosely use them by having goals; as in some day dreams, like some day I want to own my own business or own a home etc. And others even yet may not use goals at all. That can happen for many reasons, not knowing what you even want, mental health issues, etc.

No matter what your current relationship is with goals this will benefit you. I was a person who did all the things like bullet journaling, setting goals for the day, week, month, year, etc, having a goal board. I loved having goals in my life but, even than I would have a lower success rate than I would like and lower follow through than I was proud of. Than I was taught this skill in DBT and all of that changed! My life completely up leveled. ( I Still have some major set backs I am navigating through) but, I set over 150+ goals last year and I met all, but about 20 of them by the end of last year. Continue reading to learn all about this skill and how to have it do the same for and your life!

First, What Are The Benefits of Goals

I touched on it earlier that there are many benefits to setting goals so what are they? First, the benefits really can be endless. Because, each goal you choose to set is going to have it’s unique set of benefits it will bring you personally when you achieve it. There, are some overarching benefits you can experience every time you set and achieve a goal we can take a look at next.

One of the many benefits goals can bring to you and your life is providing you with a sense of direction, and something to actually strive and work for. In a way our goals guide our sense of purpose and being and fuel our motivation for life in general. For myself, personally when I don’t intentionally have goals I am working on, and I have a plan on how I will achieve them my depression, my bpd. and my overall mood stability is honestly, just shit. When I don’t have a goal/s I am working on actively, is one of the times when I will completely disappear and sink into the depths my emotions can at times drown me in. If you have nothing you are striving for it can make it hard to want to be an active participant in your life.

Another benefit you can experience by intentionally having and using goals in your life is the mental health benefits you get from achieving a goal like the sense of building mastery. Building Mastery is when you do something that causes you to feel a rush of pride and a sense of accomplishment. You are doing something completely, fully and that you are literally able to master as you are doing this. I get this sense of feeling every time I achieve a goal I have set and honestly it can get quite addictive at times and it really does help keep my emotions stable.

The last benefit I will talk about is how setting goals and having them be an intentional part of your life is how you create a life worth living, how you get anything you want, and how you find happiness. If you want to get anything in life you have to actually do something to obtain it or achieve it. This is just simply how the universe we exist in works. It is how energy works and its one of the keys to manifestation I feel many miss. We can’t just put the energy out into the universe with our thoughts, You can dream, and tell yourself some day you will have the life that makes you feel fulfilled and is your soul purpose. But, how you actually make that happen is by deciding what you want to achieve, making a plan how to use them using SMART goals and than you follow thru with your plan.

What are SMART Goals?

We have spent some time talking about the benefits of using goals in general and what they can possibly bring to your life. Now, let’s talk about what are SMART goals specifically. First, SMART is an acronym that stands for S-specific, M-measurable, A-Attainable, R-Relevant, and T-Timely, but, we are going to break down what each of those means in a just a little bit.

SMART goals are a very detailed, layered, and specific way to set your goals so that you can attain them with ease and have a much higher chance of success. I really look at SMART goals as goals on steroids with purpose and intention. When you set your goals using this method you are creating a very clear image of what your goals are, how you are going to achieve them, when you will achieve them and how you will keep yourself accountable and motivated. Now, let’s look at what each step in SMART goals stands for and how to do it to achieve your goals.

S Stands For Specific- Be As Specific As You Can Be

The S stands for specific. When it says be specific it means be as specific as you possibly can be. You need to be very clear about what it is that you want to accomplish and achieve. Every part of the goal you need to be able to visualize, know in and out, and know what it is you want out of it. The clearer you are about what it is you truly want to achieve the more you will be able to plan, the more you be able to manifest and the more motivated you be to follow through with your plan to achieve your goals to build a life worth living. It really just is easier to achieve and accomplish your goals when you are specific when you set them.

M Stands for Measurable- Make Your Goal Trackable

The second letter in SMART for SMART goals stands for Measurable. What this means is making your goal when you are setting it measurable in some way. Giving yourself a way to know when you have actually accomplished. This also is a way to add urgency behind your goals and takes them out of a place of being a some day goal, a dream, or wish and makes them actually become reality. It keeps you accountable to yourself as well knowing you will be coming back to your goal at that time to take stock and see what you have been able to accomplish.

A Stands for Attainable-Make Your Goal Realistic

The third letter in SMART for SMART goals stands for Attainable. I personally really need this letter in the acronym and I feel most of us overlook this letter too often when we are setting goals both intentionally and unintentionally. There are times I use to set goals I knew there was most likely no way I was going to achieve them and set way too many at once for many reasons; perfectionism, my OCD, and I simply always have a million and one things I want to get done. When you get to this letter though it is to make sure you are being intentional with setting your goals to set yourself up for success to achieve them. Remember one of the main reasons to set goals is to achieve them and create a life worth living for. Why wouldn’t we want to make sure we are setting ourselves up for the highest level of success by making sure it is something we can actually realistically do.

R Stands For Relevant- Make Sure This Goal Is Something You Should Be Working On

The fourth letter in SMART for SMART goals stands for Relevant. This step in goal setting is when you take a moment and you reflect on the goal you are setting and working towards. You reflect to determine if this goal is currently relevant to your life right now. For example, if one of your goals for the year is to start a garden in your backyard but, you live in Minnesota like I do and the ground is frozen still. This may not be the relevant and right time to be setting and working towards this goal. Some other things to reflect on with your goals to make sure they are relevant are.

T Stands For Timely- Set A Time You Will Achieve It By

The fifth and final letter in SMART for SMART goals stands for Timely. This letter is all about putting urgency into achieving your goals. This is when you set a very clear and specific time you will meet your goal by. Whether you set a specific date or you state you will achieve this goal within 30 days, 90 days or whatever it is you choose. But, it needs to be a very clear and specific timeframe you pick. When you set a specific and clear timeframe you will achieve your goals by, you are putting energy into your manifestation and making it a priority for you brain to focus on accomplishing it. This also creates a sense of accountability for your goals as well you will either be coming back to it in celebration or to reevaluate your plan, make adjustments and keep working towards your goal if needed.

What Does A SMART Goal Look like put all together?

Now that you know what SMART stands for and you have a detailed break down of what each letter means and how it can really impact your goal setting. Let’s take a look at what this looks like when you actually set a goal using the SMART goals method. Below I will list some of my own personal smart goals I had set this last year in my personal development plan and you can see how specific and detailed it is when you write your goals out this way.

  • I will complete my Diary card for DBT treatment every day at 10 pm as part of my night time routine for 30 days in a row. After 30 days I will do so until I graduate DBT
  • I will take my prescribed medications every morning as part of my morning routine for the next 30 days. After 30 days I will continue to do so until they are no longer prescribed.
  • I will create a detailed smart goal board by January 1st in my office based on my completed personal development plan.
  • Every Sunday I will either find or create affirmations for me to use every day of the week. After creating my affirmations I will recite and/or write my affirmations every day as part of both my morning and night routine.
  • I will meditate daily during Olyver’s nap as part of my daily routine.
  • I will cleanse, and purify our entire home every single Sunday as part of my weekly cleaning reset routine
  • I will eat three meals a day for 7 days in a row when my body tells me I am hungry. I will track this in my bullet journal. After 7 days in a row I will eat three meals a day for 3 weeks in a row, than 30 days.
  • I will track my family’s spending daily in our budget planner workbook as part of my nightly routine before bed.
  • I will particpate and observe in every new moon and full moon of the year as part of my biweekly routine and my spiritual practice. I will do this by following all the steps in my book of shadows.
  • I will read from a book for at least 30 minutes every single day after I put Olyver to bed.
  • I will update and create this year’s family binder by the end of January.
  • I will write in my gratitude log twice daily as part of my morning and nightly routine.
  • I will participate in all required sessions for my DBT program weekly until I graduate the treatment program.
  • I will go back and re-evaluate, and update or modify my goal board and personal development plan to make sure my goals still are current SMART goals for me.

Ways To Implement SMART Skills

We have talked about the benefits of SMART goals, what they actually are, how to set them, and what they look like so, now let’s talk about how we can take SMART goals and implement them in different way and different skills in our life to be able to really specifically assist us with our mental health and our lives as a whole.

Accumulating Positive Emotions; Long Term

There is a core DBT skill we can use to help us make sure we are working towards creating a life worth living and maintaining our values and goals while doing so, and it is called Accumulating positive emotions for the long term. This skill is really about making changes in your life so that positive events will occur in the future. This skill implements your SMART goals and the values and morals you used to create your smart goals. I personally use this skill whenever I am feeling like life is becoming to much and I can’t catch a break. Or when I am just having a hard time with a sense of direction due to overwhelm. Let’s walk thru how to implement your SMART goals while using this skill.

  • Avoid avoiding- Start now to do what is needed to build the life you want. If you are not sure what to do than you follow all the steps below
  • Identify Values that are currently important to you- Ask yourself what Values currently mean the most to you in your life right now?
  • Identify ONE value to work on NOW- What is really important to me, right now to work. This one is important for me and a huge reason why I use this skill. It really allows my focus and get myself into a positive and productive state.
  • Identify a few goals related to this value- This is where you will come back to your smart goals you created earlier and identify what goals you have created that are related to this value.
  • Choose one goal to work on now- Do a pros and cons list or a priority ranking if necessary to select which goal it is you want to work on.
  • Identify small actions steps towards your goal- Ask yourself what small steps can you take to get to your goal?
  • Take one action step now- It is exactly what it says. Pick one of those small action steps you brainstormed and go and do that action step.

Below I have a blank example of the DBT worksheet to use when using this skill and an example of me using this skill as well

Create A Personal Development Plan

The second way that you can take your SMART goals and implement them in your life to help you up-level your life is by creating a personal development plan. A personal development plan is something I came up with while in DBT treatment and learning how to set SMART goals and the accumulating positive emotions for the long term skill. As I have touched on many times before I have OCD so I get obsessive, I plan all the time, and I over do it with the amount of tasks I take on which leads to massive burn out and often. It had become common for me to have so many goals and so many projects I was working on I never could fully finish or get things to my vision because I wasn’t setting clear enough goals. I also loved how much joy, building mastery, and productivity in peace it brought me.

So, I sat down for a month straight every single night and every moment I had to create this personal development plan which combines those two skills SMART goals and getting from values to specific actions steps ( the breakdown of Accumulating positive emotions for the long term) and I took it and amplified it and wrote out a breakdown of every single goal I wanted to meet last year. Every single one. I created every step it would take to meet the goal, ranked its priority and made sure they fit the values and pillars of my life I wanted to focus on and that were important to me. My overall goal while creating this one was to completely overturn my life and create a life I wanted to stay alive for.

When creating your personal development plan there are some questions you want to focus on as you create it with your SMART goals. These questions help you create the plan as a whole and they help you make sure it truly is created based on your SMART goals. Below is the list of questions to use when creating your personal development plan with SMART goals.

Once you have those questions in the forefront of your mind and you feel ready to really plan with SMART goals its time to create your personal development plan. Let’s talk about how we do that, the steps to do that and what each step looks like. I will even show you some pages of each step of my own personal development plan as we go.

Step 1- Decide on your Values/Pillars of you plan. The first step to creating a personal development plan is to help create focus and guidance with your plan and to make sure your SMART goals are in alignment with your core values. What you do here is decide on the core values/pillars/categories you want to focus on and your goals to be based on. The amount of this can be whatever it is you would like it to be from 3- 19, mine had the later. Do whatever is going to work for you that doesn’t lead to any unwanted feelings like overwhelm, shame, or judgement. Below is the list of the values/pillars/categories I focused on last year.

Step 2- Brain dump. This step for me is honestly the hardest because, I want to control the amount of the things on it, or to make it even and sometimes it can be difficult for me to release the judgement as I am brain dumping and letting things come to as they come. What you do here is you let your mind run wild, you let go, and you intuitively write any and all goals you could think of you would want to accomplish that fit into those values you had picked out just before this.

Step 3- Evaluate your brain dump. The third step to creating your personal development plan is taking a look at your brain dump and simply eliminating anything that may not be realistic or just doesn’t fit your priorities or values. There is no need to judge yourself for having written it down just simply acknowledge it and decide to save it for a different time or that it doesn’t fit your values and that’s okay.

Step 4- SMART goals. The next step in creating your personal development plan is either adding in SMART goals you had previously written out and created or you create them now. Don’t forget to follow all of the steps to create SMART goals we talked about above.

Step 5- Priority Rankings. This step helps you create some order to your SMART goals. In this step you will literally go through and rank the order of priority each goal has to me of importance to complete. When it comes to importance that can mean different things; so think about whether it is more urgent because of time and season, the level of happiness it could bring you, or if there would be negative consequences if you do not achieve that goal. You can even use pros and cons lists if you need here to help you rank them.

Step 6- SMART GOAL action steps. The sixth step in creating a personal development plan is writing out and planning all of the action steps you will need to take to achieve and meet your SMART goals. It really is that simple, you will write out every single action step you will have to take to meet your goal. This helps you in so many ways. It helps eliminate overwhelm, creates structure, and sets you up for success by having a clear vision of what to do.

Step 7- Plan when you achieve your goals. The final and last step of creating your personal development plan is planning when you will achieve them. This step gives you a sense of urgency, a deadline, and a schedule for your plans. I also personally love this step because, it helps me remember that my personal development plan is all about getting the life I want by the end of the year. It is about progress and not perfection and building things one day at a time. When it comes to planning it will be up to you what that schedule looks like. If you are only planning for 1 month, 3 months, or 6 months that is totally fine. I just did a year because that was the purpose of my personal development plan.

Those are all the steps to creating your personal development! Now you can use this help you up-level your life and create a life that is worth living for you. Here are a few other extra tips to help make creating your personal development plan a little easier. Use a bullet journal or something that is durable and that you can come back to over and over again. When you are creating your plan color coordinate your plan through each step by categories. Having things color coordinated just makes it easier and quicker when you are sorting through all the information and creating each step of your plan.

Create A Goal Board

If you don’t want to get as detailed as a personal development or if you want a visual representation of your personal development plan for you to see in your physical space often; you can create a goal board. Some people like to also refer to these as vision boards and other names as well. For me, I just do not vibe with calling it a vision board. A vision board doesn’t have the energy of action behind it. It feels like a lofty someday dream. And when I goal set and plan I want to do so in conviction, determination and with active movement of energy behind it. Creating a goal board can look quite literally whatever you can come up with that motivates you, draws your eye to it and that works with the space you have. Do whatever is going to work best for you to serve as visually reminder of your SMART goals. I personally love being able to visually see when they checked off or are moved to they accomplished section it definitely gives you a special kind of rush!

Things To Be Cautious About With SMART Goals

We have spent a lot of time talking about the many benefits and positive aspects to SMART goals. Well because, they really truly are an amazing thing to do and a great way to really up-level your life and create one that is worth living for. With that being said there are some things to keep in mind when you are using SMART goals intentionally in your life and when you are creating them.

Be aware of Tunnel vision. What I mean by this is when you are working very intentionally with SMART goals in your life sometimes they become all you can see. They become your focus, and the main thing you care about. You can become obsessed. Which can lead to some damaged interpersonal relationships, missed opportunities, failed responsibilities, and neglecting some of your other values.

Be aware of Inflexibility. When working with SMART goals sometimes you can get rigid, and very set with sticking to the plan you created to meet it. I mean why wouldn’t we want to? We took the time to actively plan ahead and create a way we are pretty confident will help us achieve our goals. One of the main points of creating SMART goals is this very thing. Even with that being the case sometimes things just don’t work as well as we thought they would, or our lifestyle changes, or there are things going on in the world that change how we have to function in it. Whatever it is don’t allow yourself to be unwilling to change and adapt your SMART goals and how you will achieve them instead of being so loyal to them you choose to not meet or achieve them at all.

Be aware of Perfectionism. This one is really one I personally have to make sure I check in on often. I really struggle with this one and the cycle it can cause, especially with goals. When working with SMART goals intentionally in your life, it may be very hard to work on goals at all if you aren’t perfect and if you make mistakes. For example, if you do really well working towards a goal every single day for two weeks and than for some reason like mental health, or your schedule you miss one day and the shame spiral begins. For me if it gets bad enough I will walk away from a SMART goal completely. Be aware of this need and desire for perfectionism and remember it is all about progress not perfection. It’s about creating a life worth living by the end of your SMART goal not the entire time you are working on it.

Using SMART Goals Can Shift Your Alignment And Manifestation

We have talked a lot about SMART goals the many mental health benefits and how they can help you create a life worth living by creating very specific and detailed goals. Let’s talk about one last and final reason you really should start using SMART goals in your life today and that’s the benefits it can bring to your manifestation and alignment. Using smart goals will automatically shift you into a more aligned mindset to connect to the energies and frequencies you are seeking to connect to. When you are aligned with those frequencies your ability to manifest a life worth living and your dreams becomes much easier to do.

When you use smart goals you also put the movement and energy needed to make your manifestations come to fruition. SMART goals help you ensure that you are not missing the crucial part of your manifestation which is active movement of energy behind your manifestation. You can not only align your thoughts and words for manifestation through shadow work, and/or affirmations but, you still have to do the actions, put in the work and move the energy. SMART goals really just forces you to do that. You can’t achieve your SMART goal if you don’t follow through with your steps and plan.
