Nurture your emotions, release past wounds, and heal under the Wolf full moon in Cancer

The first full moon of 2025 graces the skies with a watery and emotional current of energy in the sign of the Crab Cancer on January 13th. As the moon finishes her cycle in Cancer we are pushed to dive deep into the depths and waves of our emotions. Cancer is one of the most sensitive and intuitive signs of the zodiac. It’s ruled by the moon so when the moon is in the sign of Cancer at any time, you can be sure you’ll be feeling more emotional than normal especially during a full moon! Cancer rules emotions, and you can work on any emotional issues. You can work on facing those feelings you have let sink to the depths of your psyche, embrace them with compassion, and surrender to the waves and let them go. The Cancer full moon connects us with the feeling of home within ourselves, pushes us to develop a new awareness of our emotional nature, and establish a new relationship with our sensitivity and vulnerability. It represents our foundation in life, our home, our roots, and our family of origin or our motherland. So during this full moon our healing and release work can focus on things like our childhood, generational traumas, and toxic family dynamics as well. The Full Moon in Cancer is a profound opportunity to nurture your emotional landscape, connect with your inner world, and release what no longer serves you. Let’s surrender to the waves of our psyche and our deepest emotions riding on the back of the crab under the glow of the full moon light in this blogpost together.

First, What is the Full Moon

Over the centuries, the Moon has played a significant role in different cultures and traditions. The full moon simply put is when the moon is completely illuminated in the sky and it has reached it’s peak in this lunar cycle in the sky. When the moon is completely illuminated it’s time for all to reach full expression. The full moon is the most powerful and potent time of the entire lunar cycle.

A full moon occurs when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon are in the exact opposite positions in the Zodiac (called an opposition). The full moon greatly affects humans and it’s no wonder it does because, there’s a scientific reason for this – we are made up of 60% or more of water. Full Moons are the peak point of the lunar cycle: at this time of the month, the light of the Sun is fully illuminating the Moon, and the luminaries are exactly opposing one another from our perspective on Earth. This potent alignment offers us opportunities to gain more awareness about what is moving in our inner and emotional world, and information previously uncertain or hidden could be revealed at this time.

With the moon being fully illuminated it creates this portal to some of the most potent energy to connect to for us to manifest our desires and dream life. This portal creates a connection to our peak creative energy and the deep seated creative passions we all have within us. This creative energy and power is the energy we need to actually do and create the things and lifestyle we need to manifest what we desire. With the new moon phase being about planting the seeds of what you want to manifest, the full moon is about actually doing the work and moving the energy to make your manifesting happen. The full moon allows you to bridge the connection between these energies and themes and bring them into your life while reminding you how important it is to have them in your life not only when the moon is illuminated in the sky for you to see.

There are so many ways to work with the full moon, to learn more about the basics of working with the full moon energy check out my blog post here and you can watch my class all about lunar magic. But, remember each full moon will be slightly different and have different practices to add and different ways to do it based on which zodiac sign the full moon is currently in at the time.

The wolf moon

During January, as the long harshness of winter has settled in for awhile and food sources to hunt become scarce. The howl of hungry wolves coordinating to take down their prey is something we commonly hear. This is why the full moon of January is known as the wolf moon. This first full moon of the year is an opportunity to slow down and reconnect with what truly matters. The howling wolves have long been a signal of the deep winter season. The Wolf Moon symbolizes both introspection and the power of community. The Full Moon of January connects us to Winter’s strength, the resilience of the wolf pack in harsh condition, and quiet stillness. Wolves, are revered for their wisdom and instinctual nature, and serve as symbols for individuals seeking a deeper connection with their inner selves. Like the pack-oriented wolves, this full moon reminds us of the importance of fostering relationships, improving communication, and achieving harmony in all aspects of life.

As with most pagan names there will be different ones for each culture so below I listed any of the other names for the cold moon I could find across the Earth. The common themes for these moons are, stillness, introspection, community, resilience, wisdom, rest, and the coldness of winter.

Who is Cancer?

Like, I said before each full moon will be amplified and influenced by the zodiac sign we find it in and this time the full moon is in the sign of Cancer. So who is Cancer? As the fourth sign Cancer is the very bottom of the Zodiac which makes it associated with our foundations and the core of who we are. As a water sign Cancer is not afraid dive into the depths of emotions and create a nurturing environment to heal the wounds of the past. Cancer represented by the crab is known to be very emotional, nurturing, sensitive, and deeply intuitive.

Cancer constellation

Cancer, the crab, is the dimmest of the 12 zodiac constellations, yet it contains one of the brightest star clusters, the Beehive Cluster. In Greek mythology, the constellation Cancer represents a giant crab named Carcinos that attacked Hercules during one of his 12 labors. The goddess Hera sent the crab to distract Hercules while he fought the Hydra of Lerna, a water serpent. Cancer was able to grab Hercules’s toes with its claws, but Hercules killed it with a kick before it could cause more damage. Hera felt sorry for the crab and rewarded it for its efforts by placing it among the stars as the constellation Cancer.

In Egyptian mythology, the Cancer constellation was associated with the sacred scarab beetle, an emblem of rebirth and immortality. The connection comes from the scarab’s behavior of rolling dung into a ball, which the ancient Egyptians saw as a symbol of the forces that move the sun across the sky, thus connecting the beetle and the constellation with cycles of renewal and eternal life. In Mesopotamian mythology, the Cancer constellation was often depicted as a turtle or tortoise, associated with the summer solstice and sometimes seen as a gateway to the underworld.

In Celtic mythology, the Cancer constellation is most closely associated with the goddess Cerridwen, who is often depicted as the keeper of a cauldron of knowledge, with the stars within Cancer representing the sparks of wisdom emanating from her magical brew; essentially, the constellation is seen as a symbol of the cauldron itself, signifying the potential for enlightenment and deep understanding.

Cancer The sign to nurture your emotions

Cancer is a water sign associated with nurturing, intuition, and empathy. The Moon is at home in Cancer and illuminates our innate desire to focus on our deepest emotional needs. The cancer moon reminds us of the importance of letting our emotions flow, of sitting with our emotions without judging them, without rationalizing them, and without attaching a story to them. The Cancer full moon infuses us with its energy. Making it a powerful time for emotional healing, enhancing psychic abilities, letting go of past wounds, breaking generational patterns, and nurturing relationships. Whether it’s spending time with loved ones, creating a comforting environment, or simply honoring your own feelings, the Full Moon in Cancer highlights the importance of caring for your inner world. Remember, tending to your inner world is just as important as taking care of others during this extra sensitive and emotional full moon.

Cancer The Ruler Of Home And Family

Cancer is the ruler of the home and family, so we can focus more on home and family matters. This can be a time to work on healing wounds from your childhood, releasing past toxic patterns, and redefining the dynamics in your home and relationships. When the full moon is in Cancer this is a time to go back to our roots, who we are, where we came from, and work on releasing anything holding us back emotionally that is connected to our generational lineage, our childhood, and our upbringing. Now is a great time to begin looking into childhood wounds and working to start to healing them. Cancer is also the sign of mothering energy, so during this Moon you’ll feel a stronger urge to nurture and care for not only your own family more deeply, but everyone as if everyone was one of your children.

Cancer the sign of heightened intuition

Cancer is one of the most intuitive signs of the zodiac and has a natural ability to understand other people. This sign has an uncanny ability to sense the moods of others . This sign really is ruled by their intuition and gut feelings, which often proves to be a trusty compass for them. Guiding them to react to others with compassion and empathy giving them the emotional support they need. To connect to the heightened emotional intuition of Cancer this full moon it’s an excellent time for enhancing empathy, and deepening your intuitive abilities by working with your clairs. This allows you to follow that gut instinct about peoples true emotional state, even when it’s not what you see on the surface.

Eris is active

I don’t normally talk about other energies too much but, I have a soft spot for Eris. I feel she gets such a bad rep and she is so overlooked. Especially for her ability to bring empowerment , fight for the under dog, and bring about much needed justice. So, whenever she is active I always try to bring it up and make a note of it. Eris is known to bring destruction and unsettling energy, but this is only to achieve a greater harmony. Eris can see what is old, broken, or is in need of a massive change. She fights against oppression and outdated beliefs, aiming to bring more freedom. though she is known to be a bit erratic when she feels offended. I mean she did play a big hand in the destruction of troy. When she is active she can ignite some inner rage to stand up for yourself, and even get into the fight for justice within our community. To learn more about her energy and myths check out my class on her in the dark goddess devotionals class with DiviNation here.

What to be cautious of this Cancer full moon

When it comes to the Cancer full moon emotions will be really heightened and it’s easy to become moody if you don’t express how you’re feeling. So make sure to express those hidden feelings that you have allowed to sink to the depths. Another thing to be cautious of with the full moon in Cancer is to not allow yourself to build up stronger defense walls. The crab likes to retreat behind the walls of it’s castle to remain safe and protected as the waves of emotions crash upon the shore of your soul. But, don’t let yourself do that by lashing out in passive aggressive ways to those you love and care about. Allow the walls of your castle to soften and come down this lunar cycle instead of allowing them to be reinforced. The last thing to keep in mind is to make sure you don’t allow the nurturing pull of the crab to overcome you. It’s great to care for others and nurture others but, not at your own expense.

Cancer and duality

Since, I am a grey witch every single energy I work with I look for the duality in that energy and how I can connect to it. First, let’s talk about the sign Cancer. The zodiac sign Cancer is known for its duality, which is represented by the crab’s hard shell and soft underbelly. Cancer energy is said to be tough and protective on the outside, but nurturing and emotional on the inside. Like the crab this energy allows us to retreat into our shell and home we carry on our back and be grounded safely in it. But, when we need to we can stand our ground and defend the home we carry on our backs and protect it until the end. Even though we will feel protective, this energy also allows us to feel, be sensitive, and to nurture not only others but, ourselves. We may feel resilient and hard on the outside right now, but on the inside the waves of emotions are crashing all around us and we internally don’t feel strong and protected.

Second, the full moon itself is all about duality as it is another time of transformation, transition, and rebirth. During this time we are pushed into a liminal space that forces us to look at the things, people, and places that have been obstacles or holding us back. This can be a thing of beauty and hope as well as a thing of pain and darkness which forces us into duality.

Spell for emotional healing

Cancer is the sign of emotions and nurturing which makes it a very potent time to go within and do some emotional healing. Especially with family wounds, childhood wounds, and scars from the past. Use the spell below during the cancer full moon to bring emotional healing to your life as you surrender to healing waves where the crab resides.

What you will need:

  • a bowl of water
  • pink candle
  • oil
  • Lavender, pink rose petals, rosemary, cinnamon
  • rose quartz

How to perform spell:

Get into sacred container by taking some deep breaths and visualizing pink, loving, and nurturing energy surrounding you. Once you feel set in sacred container take the herbs and grind or mix them together. Once done take your oil and anoint your pink candle with it focusing on loving pink energy open you up to emotional healing. Next, take your candle and roll it in the herbal blend you mixed. Next set it next to your bowl of water asking to connect to the energy of the crab and the depths of your soul. Once your items are set light your candle. Take your rose quartz and hold it in your hands while reciting the spell below staring deep into your bowl of water.

” Water wash over my heart and soul to soothe what needs to mend, healing energy to me please send. Heal the inner scars and wounds you touch and I wish to no longer carry. Heal my heart, and soul so here on out I can be peacful and merry.”

Repeat the spell as many times as you feel you need to. Until you feel your emotional wounds mend, heal, and be released. Leave the candle to burn until it goes out on it’s own. Take your bowl of water and give it to the earth outside thanking it for absorbing your emotional wounds as you do so. Carry your rose quartz with you for as long as you need to bring you love and emotional healing throughout the day.

Howl your emotions out ritual with the wolf moon

This first full moon of the year is the wolf moon remember? So why not connect to the spirt and energy of the wild and wise wolf under the full moon rays of light by communicating like them tonight. One of the simplest ways to release pent-up emotions and energy is to actually howl at the moon just like wolves like to do. Though we now know that wolves howl for different reasons (including to find pack members or to coordinate a hunt), this full moon we can take a cue from these majestic creatures and do our own howling. The howl is the spirit of the wolf unleashed in its divine expression.

So this full moon Do what the wolf does: howl to the Moon. With all the stress and unwanted emotion in life let it go, howl what is in your heart. Let loose what is in the depths of your soul. The Moon is listening. Sitting with the Full Wolf Moon especially in cancer you will know that you are not alone.

How to do this:

When the moon is high out in the sky get some warm clothes on and head outside under the moonlight. Find a place where you can get a clear view of the full moon and be alone. Then stand with your feet apart and put your hands on your hips creating your strongest power pose. Focus on drawing the energy of the moonlight down into you and your pose. Feeling the untamed wild , wisdom, and intuition of the wolf. Allowing the rays of the full moon to hunt down the things that need to be released tonight. Once you feel they have been found. With a deep breath as loud as you can howl as the wolves do and let it all out. Feel the tension, the stress, the past wound, the pain, and the hurt, leave you now with the depth of your howl and be left to the winter wild.

Celebrate the Chinese new year with the wood snake

The 2025 Chinese new year celebrated alongside the lunar new year falls on January 29th . Marking the end of winter and the beginning of the spring season, Chinese New Year celebrates looking to the future for new beginnings with themes of happiness, health family, and good fortune. This Chinese new year marks the arrival of the Wood Snake, a rare and meaningful combination that appears only once every 60 years. This year of the Snake signifies introspection, subtle power, and transformative growth. It embodies a quiet yet potent and sometimes lethal energy capable of illuminating hidden paths and fostering deep emotional and spiritual understanding. Its strategic, resourceful nature makes it an excellent year for long-term growth. Come with me and slither through this blogpost to learn how to welcome the lunar new year and coil up with the energy that it holds.

First, what is the Chinese new year

Of all the traditional Chinese festivals, the new Year was perhaps the most elaborate, colorful, and important. This was a time for the Chinese to congratulate each other and themselves on having passed through another year, a time to finish out the old, and to welcome in the new year.

The Chinese New Year is a festive celebration at the beginning of the Chinese calendar new year. It has a long and exciting history, and there are many wonderful traditions, meals, and activities to be enjoyed during the holiday. It is also a chance for families to clean their homes and set forth their intentions for the new year.

The Chinese New year can also be called by other names as well, like the spring festival due to it’s timing with the changing of the seasons and it ushering in spring. It also known as the lunar new year since it starts on a new moon and is based on the lunar calendar.

When is the Chinese new year celebrated?

The Chinese New year is celebrated on the first day of the First Moon of the lunar calendar. The corresponding date in the solar calendar varies from as early as January 21st to as late as February 19th. This year it falls on January 29th 2025. Chinese New Year, just like the Western new Year, signifies turning over a new leaf and starting something new. Socially, it is a time for family reunions, and for visiting friends and relatives. This holiday, more than any other Chinese holiday, stresses the importance of family ties and bonds.

Traditionally, the holiday lasts sixteen days. The first week is considered a public holiday, and the sixteen days are split into different parts of the celebration. For example, the Lantern Festival is generally hosted on the 15th day, and is one of the most looked-forward-to events. The Chinese New Year is teeming with unique traditions and mythologies. The celebrations includes beautiful outfits, delicious food, and lots of colorful decorations and entertainment. Each region of China and Chinese cultures around the world have their own unique traditions and ways of encouraging hope, prosperity, and positivity for the new year.

History of the Chinese New Year

The history of Chinese New Year dates back over 3,500 years. Each unique religion and culture around China has its own mythology and tradition related to the Chinese New Year, but most stories agree that it has to do with appeasing ancient deities.

One of the most popular myths associated with the celebrations of the near has to do with a mythical beast. Nian, a mythical beast, would appear during the Spring Festival and eat the villagers every single year. Than one year an old man appeared in the village and hung red paper lanterns and decorations, and set off fireworks to scare him away. When the villagers returned to the town, they saw that Nian had not destroyed it, as in previous years. Red decorations and clothing became associated with the holiday, and thus, the tradition of setting off fireworks for the holiday evolved, as well.

Much of the history is also rooted in praying to the gods for a good harvest since Chinese culture is deeply rooted in agriculture.

Common traditions for the Chinese new year

Sweeping of the Grounds

Preparations for the Chinese New Year in old China started well in advance of the New Year’s Day. The 20th of the Twelfth Moon was set aside for the annual housecleaning, or the sweeping of the grounds Every corner of the house must be swept and cleaned in preparation for the new year. Spring couplets written in black ink on large vertical scrolls of red paper, were put on the walls or on the sides of the gate-ways. These couplets, short poems written in Classical Chinese, were expressions of good wishes for the family in the coming year. In addition, symbolic flowers and fruits were used to decorate the house, and colorful new year pictures (NIAN HUA) were placed on the walls (for more descriptions of the symbolism of the flowers and fruits.

Family Celebration

On the last day of the old year, everyone was busy either in preparing food for the next two days, or in going to the barbers and getting tidied up for the New Year’s Day. Tradition stipulated that all food be pre-pared before the New Year’s Day, so that all sharp instruments, such as knives and scissors, could be put away to avoid cutting the “luck” of the New Year. The kitchen and well were not to be disturbed on the first day of the Year.

The New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day celebrations were strictly family affairs. All members of the family would gather for the important family meal on the evening of the New year’s Eve. Even if a family member could not attend, an empty seat would be kept to symbolize that person’s presence at the banquet. At midnight following the banquet, the younger members of the family would bow and pay their respects to their parents and elders.

Lai-See

On New Year’s Day, the children were given Red Lai-see envelopes , good luck money wrapped in little red envelopes. On New Year’s day, everyone had on new clothes, and would put on his best behavior. It was considered improper to tell a lie, raise one’s voice, use indecent language, or break anything on the first day of the year. Starting from the second day, people began going out to visit friends and relatives, taking with them gifts and Lai-See for the children. Visitors would be greeted with traditional New year delicacies, such as melon seeds, flowers, fruits, tray of togetherness, and NIANGAO, New Year cakes.

There are a few guidelines for the money in red Lai-see envelopes. Only clean, unwrinkled bills should be put in red envelopes; it’s considered in poor taste to include old or wrinkled bills. Red Lai-see envelopes should contain even amounts of money and certain numbers are considered more auspicious than others. The amount of money shouldn’t have the number four in it (eg. 4, 40, 44, etc), because the word for “four” sounds like the word for “death” and is considered unlucky. However, it’s considered lucky to have amounts of money with the number eight in it, because the word for “eight” sounds like the word meaning “to prosper”.

Firecrackers Are Set Off
At the beginning of the legend, firecrackers were used to scare away the monster Nian from the village in order to protect the villagers. Many of the Chinese legends tell of using fireworks to scare away”evil” spirits and to prevent poor luck in the new year.

In modern times, fireworks are used to both symbolize the ancient tradition and also to evoke a celebratory mood. All of the firecrackers set off during the Chinese New Year celebration are red, to invite all the good luck. It is also a way to express happiness and joy. In fact, Chinese New Year is the event with the greatest number of fireworks released every year—upwards of a billion!

Lion dance

The lion dance is another one of the Chinese New Year symbols that originated from the story of Nian. Except in this version of the story, instead one one man scaring away the monstrous Nian, the whole village came together to bang on pots to make noise, and to create a large lion that would scare Nian away. The Chinese New Year lion dance honors this story by having people play percussive instruments (drums symbols and gongs) while two people perform a dance in an elaborate lion costume. One person acts as the head of the lion, and the other person acts as the body, performing acrobatic movements to mirror way a lion would move in time with the music. The dance begins with the lion asleep. Once he is woken up by the instruments, the lion shakes, gets up and beings playing.

He then becomes hungry and begins to search for food. This hunt for food is called “plucking the greens”, during which he searches high and low to retrieve auspicious foods like lettuce and mandarin oranges which are attached to red envelopes. He eats the lettuce and oranges and “spits out” good fortune to everyone nearby, keeping the red envelopes for the dancers. The lion dance is thought to ward off evil spirits and bring prosperity and good fortune to everyone nearby, especially those who catch the food that the lion “spit out”

Dragon dance

Like the lion dance, the dragon dance is another one of the Chinese New Year symbols that ushers in prosperity and good fortune for the coming year, and wards off evil spirits. While the dragon dance also involves music and movement the two dances are very different. Instead of using two people like the lion dance, the dragon dance uses many people. The size of the dragon dances vary, but usually have over 9 people.

Each person is holding a pole which is supporting part of a serpent-like dragon body. One person stands in front of the dragon, holding a ball attached to pole which represents a “Pearl of Wisdom”. The person holding the pearl uses it to lead the dragon around on a quest for wisdom, knowledge and truth. The people puppeteering the dragon body have to follow the pearl, in time with the percussive elements of the music.

Lucky Chinese New Year foods

Gathering with family to share a meal and leaving food offerings for ancestors are important traditions during the Spring Festival. All of the foods chosen are Chinese New Year symbols that each have a special meaning that corresponds with a wish for the new year.

  • One important Chinese New Year foods you’re bound to see is fish. The word for “fish” sounds like the word for “surplus” so whole fish are eaten to usher in abundance in food and wealth for the coming year. In addition to being served whole, images of fish are also used as decorations to attract abundance.
  • The shape of dumplings (also called jiaozi) resemble the yuanbao, which was a type of ancient currency made from ingot (silver, gold or other metal). Eating dumplings is thought to attract wealth. The more you eat, the wealthier you are believed to become.
  • Tang yuan is a traditional Chinese New Year dessert which is served during the Lantern Festival consisting of sweet rice balls with a black sesame filling. Their name and round shape signify family unity and togetherness.
  • Tangerines and oranges on Chinese New Year are believed to bring luck and wealth for the coming year because the word for “tangerine” sounds like the word for “luck”. The golden color of oranges and tangerines also correlates to wealth.
  • Another golden food that symbolizes wealth is the spring roll, also called chun juan. Not only does their color resemble wealth, but their shape is also looks like gold bars.
  • Make sure not to cut your noodles if you normally do so, because eating long, unbroken noodles in the dish called longevity noodles is believed to encourage longevity in life. It’s also bad luck to cut anything during Chinese New Year, because it is viewed as cutting off your luck.
  • Fa gao, also known as “prosperity cake” or “fortune cake” is a popular dessert made from rice flour and steamed until the top splits. The more sections formed by the split in the top denotes how lucky a person will be in the coming year.
  • Another lucky dessert, nian gao or “year cake” is made from sticky rice flour and can be sweet or savory. The name of this dessert sounds just like the words for “higher year” which symbolize progress, success and a better year than the last.

The importance of wearing red

Red is associated with the colors used to scare away the monster Nian, but it also has other meanings as well. Traditionally, it stands for good luck in Chinese culture and is used to keep away any spirits who might harbor bad fortune. Wearing red is traditional for Chinese New Year, in order to welcome in the new year with good fortune, but you can also wear bold or bright colors for the celebratory mood, as well. You’ll also want to decorate with red around your home. Decorations include paper cuttings, which are intricate and narrative. They often represent symbols from mythology or of good blessings for harvest. Other decorations include Door Gods, red lanterns, calligraphy fortunes, paintings, and more.

The importance of the FU character

The Chinese fu character, meaning good fortune and blessings, is one of the most commonly found Chinese New Year symbols. It is written on a red, diamond shaped piece of paper, which is often hung upside down on the outside of the front door. The reason these fu papers are hung this way is because the word for “upside down” is similar to the word “arrive”. Hanging the fu character upside down signals that good fortune and blessings will arrive at your home for the new year.

The Chinese Zodiac

Chinese Zodiac animals are another one of the important Chinese New Year symbols. Each year is assigned one of the twelve animals in the Chinese Zodiac in a very special order. This order is determined from one of the most well known Chinese mythological tales. The twelve animals of the Chinese Zodiac are; the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. The tale that tells us their order is the great race and it goes like this. The story goes that the Jade Emperor, the ruler of heaven and earth, held a race to create a calendar and a way to measure time. This race was a call to his dear animal friends to race across the river to him when upon their arrival they would a special meal and celebration together. There are a few different version for the telling’s of what actually happens during the race. But below is the most commonly accepted version for the results.

The rat and the cat were good friends, but they were poor swimmers. They asked the ox to carry them across the river, and he agreed. However, the rat tricked the ox by pushing the cat into the river and then leaping onto the ox’s head to finish first. The ox came in second place followed by a wet tiger after that. The rabbit was having a hard time hopping from stone to stone across the river, when suddenly a log floated by. The rabbit hopped onto the log and it drifted him quickly to shore. Little did the rabbit know that just behind him was the dragon. The dragon saw the little rabbit in need and graciously blew wind to carry the log all the way to shore. The Jade emperor was curious and asked the dragon why it came in fifth place when it could fly. It turns out, the dragon had been distracted from the race by a village that was in drought. The dragon provided rain to save the village then continued the race and was declared the fifth zodiac animal by the emperor. The snake, hid in the horse’s hoof to cross the river, then jumped out to scare the horse into seventh place. Next, a raft floated up to the finish line carrying the friendly ram, the playful monkey and the talkative rooster. The three of them had teamed up and crossed the river together. So, ram was eighth, monkey ninth, and in tenth place was the rooster. The dog, made it across the river, but spent too much time playing in the water and came in eleventh. The pig Stopped to eat and fell asleep, finishing in last place. The Jade Emperor assigned the pig the final space in the zodiac

It may sound odd but, if you want to get a really deep look at this tale and how each zodiac animal really manifests in humans there actually is a really amazing anime about it. Go check out fruit baskets.

The year of the snake

The snake, being the sixth animal in the zodiac, is set to take center stage in 2025. The Year of the Snake is associated with transformation, renewal, and spiritual growth. Snakes are known for their ability to shed their skin, symbolizing the process of letting go of the old and embracing the new. Snakes are everything you aspire to be: smooth, sneaky, and completely unbothered by the opinions of others. They’re the passive-aggressive MVPs of the animal kingdom. They slither through life with the grace and determination to get to there next goal. Never being afraid to strike out with a venomous bites to protect yourself and your way of life. The snake is also a symbol of wisdom, cunning, and adaptability. This year with the influence of the snake you can expect new opportunities and challenges that will test our skills and resilience. This year of the Snake signifies subtle power, and transformative growth. It embodies a quiet yet potent energy capable of illuminating hidden paths and fostering deep emotional and spiritual understanding. Its strategic, resourceful nature makes it excellent for long-term growth. I am just about done with a special guide to dive into this snake energy for the year specifically. So, keep an eye out for that coming in just a bit!

How the element wood affects the snake

When it comes to the Chines New year not only is there an animal associated with each year but, also an element that dominates that years energy. This year we find ourselves in the element wood alongside the snake. Wood represents the energy of growth, and is known for it’s flexibility that paired with the energy of the snake makes this a year of massive transformative energy. The last time we had a wood snake year was 1965 — the Vietnam War, the space race and the first space walk, Malcolm X’s assassination, the civil rights movement and the race riots, and the Beatles and the Rolling Stones tour the world. The snake’s strategic and introspective nature is complemented by the element of wood, which fosters growth, balance, and connection with nature. In the Year of the Wood Snake, the “Wood” element signifies a period of increased growth, flexibility, and creativity. Essentially, the Wood element softens the Snake’s typically reserved nature, adding a layer of compassion and a desire to nurture new beginnings. The influence of wood encourages our creative and innovative sides while the snake’s energy provides us with the strategic insights necessary to achieve our goals.

The Chinese new year and duality

Since, I am a grey witch I look for the duality in every single energy I work with including sacred times like the Chinese new year. Even though this is a holiday and celebration focused on family, good luck, and prosperity which is a very wanted energy there is a duality to this celebration. Remember the myth we talked about with Nian? The mythological beast that came up from the ocean each year to eat villagers. That story reminds us that this time of the year is a liminal time where the veil is thin and protection from unwanted entities and spirits is needed. It also reminds us that often when we are celebrating our precious time with our families we are also reminded of a time we almost lost them or the ones we did lose already.

Final thoughts on the energy of 2025

2025 isn’t here to hold your hand or sing you a lullaby. It’s here to remind you that you’re a witch. You are a powerful and sovereign entity dammit, and sovereign beings don’t crumble, they conquer. So shed your old skin, step into your power, and slither into this year like the unapologetic, venomous conqueror you were always meant to be. Remember while you do this to never be afraid to show your teeth and strike with a venomous bite if someone gets in your way and threatens your way of life. Be fluid and slither with grace to get to where you need to go and don’t be afraid of the paths in the shadows. The shadows may be mysteries and dark but, in them wisdom can hide. We have a big year full of so much energy that is dynamic, and confrontational unfolding in front us. We won’t be able to slither and hide in the shadows from our purpose, our power, and our true identities anymore. But, we can use them to heal, transform, and find new paths in the dark. This is a year we will be forced to remove masks by completely shedding our skins. We will be forced to uncoil from a place of safety and warmth to find our true way in the world in and new creative way. We will be forced to stand up show our venomous bite and even strike back with a lethal blow when the timing is just right.

This Capricorn new moon is a call to pause, reflect, and redefine our sense of purpose as we prepare to welcome a new year. It challenges us to face limitations, release outdated patterns, and step forward with clarity, resilience, and trust in our ability to co-create a future aligned with our deepest values. the Capricorn new Moon on December 30th, helps us close out the year with vision, ambition, alignment, perseverance and confidence. This second new Moon of December, is a powerful invitation to plan and ground our dreams and ambitions into tangible reality. Let’s climb the highest mountains to reach our dreams this year with the Capricorn new moon together in this blogpost.

New moon what it is and why we honor it

Every month, the New Moon carries us over the threshold of a new beginning. So, let’s talk about the new moon in general before we climb the highest mountains to reach our dreams this year with the Capricorn new moon. The new moon is the time to reflect and cleanse your energy. It is a time to set your intentions for what you wish to attract this lunar cycle. But, remember every intention set requires action and energy from your part as well. You can’t just set an intention and miraculously it is yours. You must also put the movement of energy behind it with action steps.

The new moon energy is there to support you in manifesting what you want. The new moon is a time to allow new ideas and energy to flow with you. It is a time to honor new beginnings, and the turning over of a cycle. Think of these intentions as seeds you are planting for this lunar cycle to be ready to harvest by the full moon. Use this time to rest, reflect, and plant what you will grow just as your ancestors across many cultures did while there was little light in the night sky for them to use.

Each New Moon is unique, offering its own magic within each month. To learn more about the foundations of working with the new moon, and how it affects you, read more here in my previous blog post.  And to learn more about the moon in general and lunar magic you can read my comprehensive guide on the topic here. So, who is Capricorn?

As a cardinal earth sign, Capricorn is about initiating and building. Capricorn is steadfast, hard-working, goal-orientated and relentlessly responsible. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn. Saturn is the planet of bounds, borders, barriers, constraints and confinements. Saturn, is also the planet associated with time and karma. This makes Capricorn also connected with history and tradition, and asks us to reflect on the environment we’re living in and the systems and structures that are in place.

Capricorn is the height of the Zodiac, the highest point, and this is why it relates to our goals, our aspirations, what we strive for, and the heights we reach in life. We see this in the mountain goat thriving in the peaks of mountains. Capricorn is an ambitious energy with grand ideals; full of potential and a feeling of self importance. Capricorn knows it is meant for something special and expresses itself in pursuit of that. But, unlike the other earth sign Taurus who measures their successes in money and wealth, Capricorn seeks power and control.

The Capricorn Constellation

In Greek mythology, Capricorn is linked to the god Pan, who is often depicted as partially goat-like. Pan is said to have the upper body of a human and the lower body of a goat. In one story, Pan dived into a river to escape the monster Typhon, but only transformed part of himself, becoming half goat and half fish. Zeus was amused by this and placed the image among the stars as the constellation Capricornus. The constellation is also sometimes associated with Amalthea, the goat that nursed Zeus after his mother saved him from his father, Cronos. Amalthea’s broken horn was transformed into the cornucopia, or “horn of plenty”.

Capricorn the mythical Seagoat

Capricorns are symbolized by the sea goat, a mythological creature with the body of a goat and tail of a fish. We often think of Capricorns as high achievers or business-oriented workhorses. This speaks to the goat aspect of their sea-goat symbol. Goats are scrappy, and some of them are capable of climbing to great heights. The fishtail portion of the sea-goat, on the other hand, holds the ocean and the vast, almost spiritual world that lies beneath it. This imagery speaks to Capricorn’s ability to navigate both the material and emotional realms. It’s the job of the Capricorn to strike a balance between these two realms of earthly achievements and spiritual truth.

This hard-working sign values service, honor and public duty. Career, professionalism and reputation are extremely important to Capricorn, so the Moon here spotlights our need to succeed .Now is time to prioritize what you truly want to be remembered for and the work you’d like to contribute to the world. Capricorn is a sign that means business! Instead of being concerned with short-term satisfaction, you’ll be more inclined to dig in and focus on your long-term goals. Under the Capricorn new moon’s watchful eye, you’ll find that discipline comes more naturally to you. It’s as if you’ve got an inner drill sergeant gently nudging you toward doing the right thing, even when no one’s looking. The Grounding Energy Of Capricorn

Capricorns is said to have a grounded, practical spirit. It is a sign associated with stability, groundedness, determination, hard work, and ambition. Capricorns are the last earth sign of the zodiac, and are said to embody the stable and nurturing qualities of their element while being adaptable to reach their mountaintop no matter what. When the moon is in Capricorn it becomes a time to really ground into who you are, the direction you want to go, the path you will take, and duty to the world around you. Deeply caring and grounded, Capricorn’s energy adjusts how it moves through the world to make sure you are taken care of. It ebbs and flows, finding the pace and pulse of those around it

Capricorn the master builder and architect

This cardinal earth sign knows how to control and shape earth, building bricks and steps towards goals with ceaseless perseverance. Capricorn is the builder of the zodiac here to master tangible reality – yet in its most true essence it is guided deeply by this unseen realm. We cannot meet our mountains without soul. We cannot build with integrity, truth, and service without imbuing the Sacred into every movement. And we cannot live in this tangible world without getting lost in it, consumed by it, illusioned by it, without this guiding connection from the unseen. Like all earth signs, Capricorn has a connection to the rhythms of life, a gentle but unshakable ability to adapt and build with purpose. When the New Moon shines in Capricorn, it’s a call to honor this flowing yet steady energy. This isn’t about rigid schedules or forcing things to happen. Instead, Capricorn encourages us to tune into what feels right, to listen to our inner wisdom, and to move forward with both intention and grace. Building something meaningful doesn’t mean abandoning intuition, it’s about letting your instincts guide you as you create strong foundations, step by thoughtful step.

What to be cautious of with the Capricorn new moon

We may feel easily overwhelmed by responsibilities we have right now. We can feel the weight of them pushing us down, and we need to work on managing them better. We may need to work on saying no more, and leaving room for small breaks where we can.

We also need to be aware of stubbornness right now. Persistence can often become a double-edged sword and turn into stubbornness. While it empowers us to stand our ground it may make us resistant to alternative viewpoints or new directions. Capricorns’ unwavering commitment to high standards may also force us to be over critical, making it challenging for us to accept imperfections in ourselves and others right now.

Capricorn energy can sometimes be overprotective of itself as well. Being cautious with expression of words or emotions, in fear of moving away from the perfect ideal image of the all powerful leader that it deeply craves to embody. So, be cautious of that coming up right now and remember that a true leader is authentic in who they are and not in an image they want others to see.

The last thing to worry about with the Capricorn energy and this moon is keeping a lid on your ego. Capricorn energy being the mythical seagoat and the height of the zodiac has quite a level of confidence. They really stand at the top of their mountain and look down on all the other signs residing below them. So, be careful that you don’t let your ego get out of control to the point you unintentional tear down the ones you love and are around when building yourself up.

Capricorn New moon and duality

Since, I am a grey witch every single energy I work with I look for the duality in that energy and how I can connect to it. This includes the new moon and the energy of the zodiac sign it currently is in. First, the energy of Capricorn we see duality not only in it’s symbol the sea goat but, also in one of the main themes Capricorn represents; ambition. The sea goat like we talked about earlier is a mythical being that literally represents the duality of the material realm and the emotional or mythical realm. Others even believe the sea goat represents the duality of human existence through evolution, starting in the sea and than moving upwards onto land. Than there is the duality of ambition. While ambition is a very wanted thing. It is pivotal to our motivation, getting things done, and thriving in our life. But, on the other hand it also can cloud our mind, narrow our view/vision, damage our relationships, and lead to burn out by not caring for ourselves properly.

Second, the new moon itself is all about duality and illuminating the night sky in both light and shadows. The new moon is all about rebirth, renewal, and the beginning of a new cycle, which puts you in a transitional liminal space, energy, and time. In order for you to be in a space to begin again, to transition, and be reborn you had to just come from an ending and death.

This new moon in Capricorn has another layer of duality with it being the last one of the year. This new moon in Capricorn ushers us across a threshold holding us in a unique pocket of liminal space. A pocket of time when we are still in one year but, just about to move to another year. From 2024 to 2025. From closing to opening. Ending to new beginning. Guiding us towards a new cycle and turning of the wheel to begin. Balancing us in both the seen and unseen, in frequency and matter, and the psychic and the physical as we do.

Shift perspectives, and embrace change with the Gemini cold full moon

The last full moon of 2024 graces the night skies on December 15th. The Moon ending her cycle in the curious and communicative sign of the Twins will stir our minds, increase our desire for variety, and we will thirst for information. Allowing us to shift our perspectives and awaken our urge to connect with others. The Full Moon in Gemini puts the already emotional full Moon in the sign of the mind and expression. Gemini Full Moons are usually times where we express what we’re feeling more easily, and we can say what we mean and mean what we say. We can be authentic and open. This is a time when we can fulfill our desire to feel deeply understood. With the adaptable and curious Gemini energy guiding you this full moon, you’re encouraged to embrace change and let go of what no longer serves you, opening space for fresh ideas and perspectives to emerge. This full moon is a pivotal moment allowing you to explore new perspectives and consider changes that can lead to breakthroughs in your life. This Gemini Full Moon invites us to bridge the gap between mind and heart, thought and feeling. Are your thoughts aligned with emotional truth? Are your feelings guiding you toward your highest good? This lunar moment calls for balance, curiosity, and inspired action

The cold moon

During December the harsh bitter cold of winter sets in dropping to temperatures we can feel chilling us to the bone especially in my part of the world. This is why the full moon of December is known as the cold moon. This final full moon of the year arrives at the beginning of winter’s stillness and illuminates dark winter nights. Pulling us into the stillness of long winter nights for introspection, rest, and fresh starts as we conclude our annual trip around the sun. The Cold Moon’s energy aligns us with Winter’s dormant energy , stillness, and rebirth coming in the new season. Nature may appear dead and lifeless, right now but looks can be deceiving. Deep beneath the surface, it’s brimming with life and endless potential just waiting to show its new form with the suns return to full light come spring. I know when I go out to the woods during the cold winter months there is so much wisdom to be whispered in the woods. Use the Cold Moon as a wintery guide to “freeze and hibernate” as well. Slow down and be fully present in activities that truly bring you joy and pleasure. This is a magical lunar cycle full of transformation and deep internal work. It’s a chance to recharge and reconnect with yourself and your loved ones.

As with most pagan names there will be different ones for each culture so below I listed any of the other names for the cold moon I could find across the Earth. The common themes for these moons are, stillness, introspection, renewal, rebirth, and connecting to the harsh cold of the long winter months ahead.

Who is Gemini?

Like, I said before each full moon will be amplified and influenced by the zodiac sign we find it in and this time the full moon is in the sign of Gemini. So who is Gemini? Gemini is known for being curious, communicative, and intellectual, and is the third sign of the zodiac. An air sign, Gemini is the zodiac sign that isn’t afraid of change and will adapt easily when they need too. Represented by twins, this sign is deeply independent, but their dualistic nature still has them in search of a lifelong partner.

Gemini constellation

The Gemini constellation is a group of stars in the northern hemisphere that’s known for its two brightest stars, Castor and Pollux and is located between Taurus and Cancer in the zodiac. According to Greek mythology the constellation of Gemini is made up of two twins: Castor and Pollux. Castor was the mortal son of King Tyndarus, while Pollux was the immortal son of Zeus. Both Castor and Pollux, being identical twins, were inseparable in their looks and actions. Castor was great horseman and Pollux was a great fighter. Together, they went with Jason on the Argo and saved the ship from a terrible storm. When Castor was killed in battle, Pollux pleaded with Zeus to bring him back. Zeus agreed to immortalize both Castor and Pollux, if they spend half of their time on the Earth and the other half amongst the stars in the heavens. Since then, when sailors saw these two stars together, they knew their journey would be prosperous. However, seeing only one star foretold bad luck. In Roman mythology, the constellation Gemini represents Romulus and Remus, the twins who founded Rome that we celebrate during Lupercalia.

In Babylon they were known as the Great Twins. The Twins were regarded as minor gods and were called Lugal-irra and Meslamta-ea, meaning respectively “The Mighty King” and “The One who has arisen from the Underworld.” They were regarded as guardians of doorways and may have originally been envisioned as a set of twins guarding the gates of the Underworld, who chopped the dead into pieces as they passed through the gates.

This constellation is a very special one as well since, it is the only one mentioned in Norse mythology among the Eddas. It is a story of how Þjazi, anglicized as Thiazi, Thjazi, Tjasse or Thiassi was a Frost Giant and a shapeshifter and how their eyes made it into the skies. The story goes; One day, while on a journey, Odin, Loki and Hœnir set up an earth oven to cook an oxen they just hunted. After a while they found that it would not cook. They found out that Þjazi in the form of a great eagle, stopped the oven from heating and demanded a part of the oxen. When the oxen was cooked, Þjazi ate so much of it that Loki became angry, grabbed his long staff and attempted to strike him, but the weapon stuck fast to Þjazi’s body and he took flight, carrying Loki up with him. As they flew across the land Loki shouted and begged to be let down as his legs banged against trees and stones, but Þjazi would only do so on the condition that Loki must lure Iðunn, the goddess of youth out of Asgard with her apples of youth, which he solemnly promised to do. Later, Þjazi, again in the form of an eagle, carried Iðunn and her apples away and the gods, deprived of Iðunn’s apples, began growing old and grey. Loki was going to bring back Iðunn. He borrowed a magical coat from Freyja, transformed into a falcon, flew to the hall of Þjazi, transformed Iðunn into a nut and carried her back to Asgard. When the other gods saw Þjazi in close pursuit of Loki, they lit a fire which burned Þjazi’s feathers, causing him to fall to the ground where he was killed. When Þjazi’s daughter Skadi came to avenge her father, the gods offered her atonement and compensation. She was given the hand of Njord in marriage and Odin took Þjazi’s eyes and placed them in the night sky as stars.

Gemini The Sign Of The Mind And Shifting Perspectives

During the Gemini full Moon we are guided to change our thoughts, and examine our current beliefs to let go of ones that no longer resonate with us. The Gemini full moon calls for us to let go of the need to know, and opens us up to the ways in which our trust in life needs to grow. It opens us up to relooking at how we see ourselves and the world around us allowing us to possibly, completely shift our perspectives for major growth and transformation. This enthusiastic energy allows us to embrace uncertainty. To walk through the different doorways of opportunities without fear or anxiety. Now is also a very good time for grounding or earthing, and for finding our way back to the path of our hearts and maybe even going a different direction to get there/ Doing this may allow you to see some new things. Our minds are a gift, a powerful tool that we can guide and use in whatever direction and purpose we desire. And so it’s time to use our minds for a higher purpose and for the highest purpose of humanity. Gemini, the mutable air sign known as the sign of the twins, brings a lively, adaptable energy to the Full Moon. With Gemini’s influence, you’re encouraged to keep an open mind and embrace curiosity as a tool for growth. The Full Moon in Gemini is a powerful moment to identify and release outdated thought patterns and limiting beliefs that have been holding you back. This phase invites you to clear mental clutter, opening up space for fresh perspectives and new possibilities.

Gemini the sign of communication

Gemini is an air sign and ruled by the planet Mercury, it’s about communication and trying different things in life, being adventurous, socializing, and using language as a tool. Take this time to bring out your strengths in the way you communicate with others and how you take the time to listen to others in your life as well. This is the time to set boundaries and let go of toxic ties and relationships that no longer serve you. If you’d like to improve communication in your life with the people around you, communication is ruled by Gemini and this is your time to do it. So, go inwards and ask yourself are there any ways that you communicate that are outdated and cause issues in your relation ships and then commit to let those patterns go.

Gemini The Sign of Learning

In astrology, Gemini is associated with learning and is said to be a sign of intellectual prowess. Gemini is said to be quick at learning, curious, versatile, and have a thirst for knowledge. Therefore, learning is ruled by Gemini. This is the sign to strengthen your mind and become a better learner. Gemini activates the thinking realms, the imagination and the mental channels, seeking patterns, connection and purpose. It’s a really highly mental energy that stimulates ideas and creativity. Gemini energy is also highly intelligent, which makes it a good time for studying or learning a new course or skill. Now is the time to look into subjects that require thinking and discussing ideas, including literature, science, philosophy, art, and more.

Themes for the Gemini full moon

This time, we experience the New Moon in emotional, Open minded, Witty, Social, Flirty, Distracted, Adaptable, Intellectual, dualistic, Expressive, and perspective shifting Gemini. When the Full Moon in Gemini graces the sky, it offers cosmic guidance for us to examine our patterns and release the thoughts and beliefs that no longer serve our highest good. Let’s explore some of the themes and energies of Gemini deeper below. The Gemini full moon is a powerful moon that amplifies the dualistic energy of Gemini allowing us to shift our perspective and learn new ways of being in this world.

Keep in mind that the full Moon relates to the continuation of your journey to manifest your desires and dreams. This will be especially strong this full moon being in the sign of the twins who day dream about the life you wish to create all the time. So, try and have any of your workings based on these topics, and be willing to be adaptable with those seeds of intention you had planted on the new moon. Don’t forget this full moon is layered with many energies for you to connect to as well like the harsh cold of winter’s approach, and the introspection of the winter solstice and yule.

What to be cautious of this Gemini full moon

We may be a little bit more scattered when this sign is aligned with the moon. the Gemini Moon personality can at times be easily distracted it’s hard to focus when there’s always something else that could use our attention or our heads are up in the clouds.. So, do your best to use skills that can help you focus like making to do lists, and grounding or centering often. We also need to be careful about the intensity level for how we react to things. When Gemini is affecting the moon each and every event no matter how small seems like it’s the most significant thing to happen to us. It’s important to take the time to check the facts with your emotions and reactions to make sure you are reacting to things with the valid intensity. Be careful to not catastrophize things.

Gemini and duality

Since, I am a grey witch every single energy I work with I look for the duality in that energy and how I can connect to it. This includes the full moon and the sign it currently is in; Gemini. This month’s full moon might seem pretty obvious to you; that it is literally the definition of dualistic energy to work with. First let’s talk about the duality of Gemini; the sign of the twins and aka the sign of duality in the zodiac. Gemini focuses on duality which means; the relationship between opposites. Logic and emotion, creator and created, “good and evil”, Wanted and unwanted, masculine and feminine, conscious and subconscious etc. and the union that exist between them. All of these are topics we can reflect on and work with using Gemini energy including using grey magic.

Gemini, represented by the twins, is all about the duality within us. Whether you call the two competing voices within the Ego and Soul, Higher Mind vs Lower Mind, or Inner critic vs Inner cheerleader, these dual voices exist within us all, and our role is to learn how to balance them out and keep them lovingly communicating with each other. This full Moon is less about manifesting new “things” and more about letting go of thoughts that no longer support us emotionally. This requires us to change our minds in order to change the thought patterns that aren’t currently supporting us and allowing us to truly be in alignment with our intentions. Gemini reminds us that duality is a natural expression. YES, unity may be a goal, but duality is our reality on this planet right now, and to feel that internally is normal. The energy of duality allows us to be flexible, change our mind, go new directions and be multifaceted with our thoughts, reactions, and how we interact with others. If you’re feeling the tug between opposites, it’s actually okay.

Candle Spell For Learning During Gemini Full Moon

Do you want to strengthen your mind and be able to absorb knowledge better? Do you struggle with focus and attention when you are trying to learn? This spells purpose is to do just that during a full moon in Gemini. All you will need is yourself, a quiet area, and a yellow candle. To make this spell more potent you can also hold selenite and then keep it on you when you are studying or learning the rest of the lunar cycle.

How to do spell:

Find a place you can be alone for a little bit undisturbed, and in quiet. Then put yourself into your sacred container connecting to the energy of knowledge, learning, studying and Gemini. You can do this by meditating, grounding, calling your energy back, or doing breathing techniques like boxed breathing.

Once you feel anchored to the energy of learning and Gemini. Light a yellow candle for mental clarity. If you’d like, you can hold a piece of selenite in your non-dominant hand as you write down the ways you want to improve your learning. Visualize yourself learning easily, taking in new ideas and being receptive to lessons you can learn. Once you vision seems clear recite this spell out loud; “I am open to learning anything and everything there is to learn. I learn easily and quickly. My mind works perfectly.” Blow out the candle when you are done and come place in your favorite place to study and learn.

Working with the adventurous, authentic, and philosophical Sagittarius new moon

We are entering a new lunar phase on December 1st; the New moon. As the Moon changes signs approximately every 2-3 days, we feel the influence over our moods and intuition shift. This month we find the moon in the adventurous, optimistic, expansive, philosophical, independent, authentic, creative, generous, and freeing fire sign of the archer; Sagittarius. As we welcome the fire driven, Jupiter ruled New Moon in Sagittarius we connect with the philosopher, truth seeker, and the adventurer of the zodiac and within each one of us. As the moon begins their journey in this optimistic fire sign, we feel called to plant seeds related to expanding our knowledge, pursuing travel and higher learning, and embarking on quests to discover truth. Under the silvery rays of the new moon in Sagittarius we are encouraged to expand our minds, explore our beliefs and views of the world we live on, and are given an amazing opportunity to reexamine what we believe to be true. We will feel a need to pull back the curtains and remove any masks to uncover the truth within the lies we are told about ourselves and the world we live in.

We spend much of our time “what if-ing” ourselves and envisioning the worst-case scenario; but during a Sagittarius new moon your mind will start considering all the possibilities of a situation rather than just focusing on the potential roadblocks. Guiding you towards a new path and journey to get the life you truly want. Let me show you in this post the flames of the new moon in the fire sign Sagittarius. And how to connect to this adventurous, expansive, visionary, idealistic and freeing energy. You can use it to pull the arrows of intention back and shoot them without fear to manifest a life full of happiness, knowledge, and adventure today!

New moon what it is and why we honor it

Every month, the New Moon carries us over the threshold of a new beginning. So, let’s talk about the new moon in general before we run off in joy on a brand new adventure with the Sagittarius new mon..

So, who is Sagittarius?

Sagittarius, represented by the Archer, is known for its optimistic, enthusiastic, and adventurous spirit. Sagittarius is represented by the symbol of the archer, who aims far, and the mythological creature, centaur, who is half man and half horse. It bridges the gap between the Earth and Heaven because the centaur is the learned healer whose higher intelligence forms a bridge between Earth and Heaven. Sagittarius is a mutable fire sign ruled by Jupiter, the planet of expansion and abundance, Sagittarius brings the energy of growth, exploration, and optimism into everything it touches.

As the mutable (adaptable) Fire sign of the Zodiac, Sagittarius rules over communication, action, and passion. Fire is all about passion and inner motivation, and Sagittarius sparks that inner drive within us to learn, experience, grow and inspire. It can be a good time to pick back up an old idea, an old big plan, or to reconnect with the big picture in ways we have before. This can be a good time to redo and revise.

Sagittarius was the one who would leave the zodiac, and wander far to obtain new wisdom, and perspective to bring back and teach others what they learned. They are driven by a constant search for knowledge, wisdom, and the meaning of life. They are the natural students and teachers of life. Purpose is a big theme for Sagittarius. It is not only about obtaining knowledge, it is about understanding the purpose of what life even means.

The Sagittarius Constellation

Sagittarius is located between Capricornus and Scorpius, and is easiest to see in mid-summer when looking south and following the Milky Way. The constellation’s most prominent feature is the Teapot asterism, which is made up of three stars that form the bow, four stars that form the arrow, and stars for the archer’s hand. The constellation’s association with an archer dates back to ancient civilizations, with the Babylonians identifying it as a mounted archer as early as the 11th century BCE. Another interpretation is that Sagittarius represents Crotus, the son of Pan and Eupheme. Crotus was a skilled hunter and lover of the arts who was raised by the Muses. In one myth, the Muses asked Zeus to place Crotus in the sky to demonstrate archery. in yet another myth, some Mesopotamian civilizations associated Sagittarius with their god of war, Nergal, an archer god. The constellation’s drawn-out bow and arrow may have originated from this association

Sagittarius the archer and its connection to Chiron

,In Greek mythology, Sagittarius is a centaur, aiming an arrow at Scorpius. The Sagittarius sign is represented by a special centaur named Chiron. First, what is a Centaur? Centaur’s were creatures in Greek Mythology that had the upper body of a human man and the lower body, including all four hooves, of a horse. Many Centaurs were wild and boisterous creatures known to allow their animal nature to have control. The Centaur is a great representation for Sagittarius because of it’s balance between the passionate, wild animal nature and the soul searching, purpose driven nature of humans. The most famous Centaur Chiron, from later Greek Mythology, was known to be a wise man and a healer. In Greek Mythology, it was Chiron who taught humanity the constellations. That’s huge. Chiron is our celestial teacher. On top of that, Many well known Greek gods and goddesses looked to him for spiritual advice, most will know him through the hero Hercules. All of this is why he became associated with the sign Sagittarius. To learn more about his tragic story from beginning to end, who he is, and how the wounded healer can help you heal; you can read about him in my previous blog post here.

Sagittarius The Sign Of Adventure

A Sagittarius new Moon will renew your sense of adventure, and you could have the desire to start something new up during this time. Sagittarius loves the idea of traveling and expanding their horizon. This can be something physical like traveling to a faraway place, or taking their mind on a trip with an education pursuit. The energy of Sagittarius is very expansive, free, and visionary. Cast your mind back and check in with any dreams you’ve had percolating to travel, or begin a new adventure. Sagittarius is the happy sign, the sign of opportunity and expansion, and wants to get out into the world and have new experiences, follow that.

Sagittarius The Ruler Of Higher Learning

Sagittarius is the ruler of higher learning, during this time we can be more passionate about learning, teaching, writing, and speaking. Sagittarius is the thinking sign associated with the quest for freedom from all restriction as well as idealism, religion and philosophy. At the highest level, Sagittarius is concerned with understanding, perception, and mental activity in the service of their high ideals for the benefit of mankind. This is a great time to pickup that book you have been putting off to read, or start learning a new skill. Take the time to follow that curiosity and soak up all it is that you can learn. Because, Sagittarius reminds you wisdom doesn’t just fall into your lap; it’s something you chase after,. right now, the chase could lead you to exciting knowledge you never knew existed. You’re like a sponge right now under this new moon, absorbing lessons that are hidden in the day-to-day experiences.

Sagittarius Ruler Of Our Beliefs

Sagittarius rules our beliefs, so we can be more passionate about what we believe in and stand up for ourselves and others. The Sagittarius new moon tells us now is the time for deep reflection and personal growth. It’s also a moment to ponder the stories we’ve been telling ourselves about who we are and the world we live in. The Sagittarius new moon signals to us that some of our philosophies and beliefs may need revisiting. During the new moon in Sagittarius, the moon illuminates hidden truths, creating space for self-discovery which can allow our beliefs to either deepen or to shift and change. The new moon in Sagittarius, is the perfect time to rethink the beliefs and philosophies passed down by older generations and see how you might want to do things differently.

What To Be Cautious Of This Sagittarius New Moon

Since Sagittarius is the sign that rules our beliefs and we can get really passionate about that. This can lead to fights if we don’t keep an open mind with others in our lives. So, we need to make sure we’re listening properly. If we are, this can improve communications and we can feel more understood. With Sagittarius also being the happy sign of the zodiac we need to be careful that we don’t get too lost in feeling happy that we choose to not face reality and end up making situations worse than they need to be. The last thing to really be cautious of this new moon is the rabbit hole that questioning your beliefs and seeking knowledge can send you down. When you really start to look at your own belief system and how you view society, the government, and your world it can cause anger for being lied to come up along with sadness and depression. So, be careful to not over do how much you question and look at and if you decide to really follow the archer down that hole take breaks to be mindful and present so you don’t get overwhelmed.

Sagittarius new moon and duality

Since, I am a grey witch every single energy I work with I look for the duality in that energy and how I can connect to it. First, the new moon itself is all about duality and illuminating the night sky in both light and shadows. The new moon is all about rebirth, renewal, and the beginning of a new cycle, which puts you in a transitional liminal space, energy, and time. In order for you to be in a space to begin again, to transition, and be reborn you had to just come from and ending and death.

Second, the energy of Sagittarius many would think is all just a positive, jovial, and optimistic energy. But, Sagittarius is also about adventure and expansion which isn’t always a happy, optimistic thing. In order to actually truly go on an adventure we have to let go of any fear, and expectations, to allow us to just aimlessly wander, be present and experience the adventure. To let go of fears and expectations we must first acknowledge them which can be a rough and fiery thing for us do.

Fire Gazing Ritual

Fire gazing is a powerful ritual that will connect you to the energy of Sagittarius with clarity and intention. It can be used as a form of meditation, contemplation, manifestation, or simply to clear the mind. Fire gazing involves looking into the flames of a fire and allowing yourself to connect with your inner wisdom. It can help you gain clarity on what you want to manifest in the coming months, and look at the successes you have to celebrate from past months. What you see in the flames will guide you through your journey. Fire gazing also helps to bring harmony and balance into your life, allowing you to stay connected with yourself and those around you. Additionally, it can be used as a form of meditation, allowing for deeper levels of concentration and relaxation.

How to do fire gazing

First get yourself into sacred container and set up whatever form of a flame you are using whether it be a candle, fireplace, or bonfire. While setting up your source of fire and flame focus on the intention and goal you have for this fire gazing session.

Next, you should focus your attention on the natural light of the fire and allow yourself to enter into an altered state of consciousness as you gaze into the flames while engaging in rhythmic breathing techniques like boxed breathing for example.

Once you feel your attention is focused on the light of the flames. Then, you can relax yourself and stare into the flames. Allow your intuition and mind’s eye to find images and omens, and allow yourself to be open to the messages that come through.

You can also energetically toss your worries from the past month into the flame, letting them burn away and be released.

Sagittarius Intention setting ritual

A New Moon symbolizes fresh starts and planting seeds of intentions. Under Sagittarius, these beginnings are laced with adventure, letting go of our fears, and taking risks by stepping into the unknown. This New Moon’s energy invites you to chase after your dreams with a bow full of aspiration arrows, ready to launch. When setting intentions under this new moon, dream big. Sagittarius is all about grand plans and stretching beyond your current limits. Use this ritual to zero in on new intentions and set them under the adventurous and fearless Sagittarius new moon.

What you need:

  • a piece of paper
  • Something to write with
  • some bay leaves
  • a candle ( I recommend using either of these colors; white-moon and new beginnings, green- manifestation and abundance, or purple-wisdom and intuition )

How do perform this ritual:

First, go ahead and get yourself into sacred container. You can do this anyway that you like. If possible try to do this ritual outside under the light of the moon and the starry night sky. Because, this sign is attached to Chiron. The one who taught us the stories of the constellations and their places among the stars. Once, you feel centered in who you are and your energy has come back to you. Take a deep breath and call to the moon. Ask the bright, optimistic, adventurous, Sagittarius moonlight to guide you on the intentions you set tonight. To allow you to see the bigger picture of what it is you truly desire to be happy. Under the glittering starry sky let your eyes be opened to see a world that expands farther then we ever dreamed. Each one of those stars burning with white hot wisdom inside. Let the dark moon show you the new way you need to go to serve the greater good in your own authentic way. When you feel the energy of the optimistic, adventurous, and fearless Sagittarius new moon rays enter your heart space grab your pen and take to the page. As you focus on the life you truly want to make. Think about; What does it look like? Where do you want to go? what things do you want to learn and know? How do you want your beliefs to be shaped? What is the purpose you were meant to do to serve the collective? How is it that you can get there? Once, you feel you have written all you can on that page and you have a clear image of the future you want to create, decide which ones you can focus on first. Then write each one on a bay leaf. Then with your intention now set for the life that will make you truly deeply happy. Take each leaf and connecting to the fiery energy residing within the fearless archer burn it in the flame of your candle as you visualize your intention giving it to the moon, Sagittarius and the universe knowing it all will come to you.

Final thoughts

We have talked a lot about how a Sagittarius new moon is about expansion of our knowledge to new ideas, adventuring without fear, and authentically embracing freedom. But, there is another energy that may affect how we experience that, at the same time as this new moon Mercury is retrograde in Sagittarius too. Since Mercury is retrograde in the same sign as this New Moon, we may not be focused on anything new, and instead, want to take second chances. Retrogrades are times for do overs, and when we have a New Moon alongside one, this is an excellent time to take a second chance and do things over again. We can focus on something we tried but failed at, we started but didn’t finish, or we didn’t get off of the ground for some reason. With Sagittarius, this might be a big idea, something that would expand some part of our lives, or an experience we had that we can pursue again and learn more from. This is a great time to relearn something we’ve forgotten or to go back and review something we have taught before. Remember the new moon in Sagittarius represents the start of an exciting new lunar cycle centered around the themes of exploration, adventure, luck, and abundance. As the moon begins her journey in this optimistic fire sign, we feel called to plant seeds related to expanding our knowledge, pursuing travel and higher learning, and embarking on quests to discover truth.

Ground with the safety, security and abundance of Taurus during the beaver full moon

A lot is happening in the collective right now causing waves of change and uncertainty and this month’s full moon on November 15th, in Taurus can really help us with feeling safe amongst the chaos. Taurus, being an earth sign, naturally connects you to stability and security, grounding you in the roots of yourself and the Earth. As the moon begins her next cycle aligned with the steadfast bull, we will feel called to ground ourselves in the realm of the earthly and tangible by really truly slowing down. This will be a welcome feeling right now especially with so much change happening in the collective. Grounding our energy, feeling secure and stable in our being, and spending time in nature with the steadfast bull are all things we can do to feel a sense of calm amongst the chaos that is happening around us now. Allowing us to be more willing to confront these changes head on with grounded purpose instead of digging our hooves in and thrashing about in fear. This stable energy is going to be really welcomed as well. After the very emotional and transformational new moon in Scorpio we just experienced. Slowing down right now allows us to really take the time with Taurus and do the intentional work we committed to last lunation with transformative Scorpio. This full moon is here to remind us there are new pastures for us to venture to, and even though we may have been content where we were, nothing stays the same for long. If we charge forward being grounded in the roots of who we are we can meet the chaos, the fear, and the unknown from a place of stability and strength. Join me in this blogpost to plant your feet firmly on the fortified rock that is Taurus full moon amongst the chaos of life.

The Beaver moon

During November, Beavers eagerly complete their lodges and food supplies for the chilly winter months ahead. Which is why this month’s full Moon is called the Beaver Moon. Its name represents the time of year when beavers prepare for winter. This was also when Native American tribes would trap beavers for their valuable pelts to help their people survive the harsh winter months. This full moon is about harnessing the tenacious and patient energy of the beaver to bunker down in your home and make it cozy and warm for the winter months to come. This month’s full moon reminds us to look at the beavers ability to truly be the architect of their own lives with their building abilities. They are meticulous with the dams they build, picking where within the water they will create boundaries. They maintain their home with protection and love constantly searching for cracks in the foundation and repairing it when needed. The Beaver Moon symbolizes a time of release, protection, transition, introspection and cleansing.

As with most pagan names there will be different ones for each culture so below I listed any of the other names for the hunter’s moon I could find across the Earth. The common themes for these moons are, preparation for the winter, the transition to winter, gathering supplies, and protection.

  • Freezing Over Moon – Ojibwe
  • Mourning Moon
  • Deer rutting moon
  • Snow moon
  • Milk Moon – pre-colonal South Africa
  • Leaf Fall Moon (Yapa Huktugere Nuti) Catawba – Native American origins
  • Frost moon
  • Slaughter or Butcher month – Norse origins (Gormánuður)
  • Darkest Depths Moon – Celtic origins
  • Digging moon
  • Little Winter Moon (Tahch’asap’aratohku) Tunica – Native American origins

Who is Taurus?

Like, I said before each full moon will be amplified and influenced by the zodiac sign we find it in and this time the full moon is in the sign of Taurus. So who is Taurus?

Taurus the second sign of the zodiac symbolized by the headstrong bull is the sign that anchors us to stability. As a fixed Earth sign; Taurus is the fortified mountain on which we stand amongst the spinning chaos of life. Taurus is the steady, grounding force of the Earth. Since Taurus is ruled by the planet Venus we look for stability in the sense of comfort, in the material things that make us feel secure, safe, and bring us tangible pleasure. The headstrong bull of Taurus provides you with inner strength and a deep connection to what truly matters to you.

Taurus Constellation

Taurus is one of largest constellations in the northern sky. The constellation is symbolized by the bull’s head. Not only that it is one of the oldest constellations and one of the first ones to spoken and written about. Its history dates back to the Bronze Age .It sits in the evening sky close to the famous constellation Orion and it includes a famous star cluster the pleidess.

According to Greek mythology, the constellation Taurus was placed in the sky by the god Zeus. That’s because Zeus changed himself into a beautiful white Bull to win the affections of the Phoenician princess Europa. After Europa hopped onto the Bull’s back, the Bull swam across the Mediterranean Sea, taking Europa all the way to the island of Crete. Later, Zeus and Europa became the parents of Minos, the legendary king of Crete. In another Greek myth, Zeus’s wife, Juno, changed her lover, Io, into a heifer or bull to hide her from Zeus

Meanwhile, the Zuni of New Mexico used the Pleiades cluster as an agricultural calendar. When the Pleiades – which the Zuni called the Seed Stars – disappeared into the western dusk in spring, they knew it was safe to plant their seeds, as the danger of frost had passed.

Now for the oldest myth I can find. In Babylonian mythology, the bull was known as the Heavenly Bull, or MUL.APIN. This constellation is connected to the story of Gilgamesh. He was the king of the Sumerian city state of Uruk. In the book The Epic of Gilgamesh, the king has to fight the Heavenly Bull. This animal was sent by the goddess Ishtar to kill Gilgamesh. She was so angry at him for not falling for her advances that she thought he deserved to die. Gilgamesh is considered to be represented by the constellation Orion, which is right next to Taurus. The story goes that they are still fighting their battle in the skies.

Taurus the rock of stability

Taurus brings in a solid rock foundation of deep stability. This is the rock around which all the duality of life is spinning. Taurus as an archetype is earthy, fortified like a mountain, and all about the sensations of nature around us. It often asks us to connect to our bodies and to the tangible, material parts of our life experience. On our journey there, Taurus also asks us to backtrack. To go back to the foundation and core of who we are and the intentions we are setting. Before releasing and letting go for change, this Moon wants us to first look to our core truths, values, and motivations. To make sure we are planting seeds of intentions we truly desire to be sown by first releasing what no longer needs to grow.

Taurus The Sign Of Money

Taurus has a reputation for abundance, in all its earthly delights. Taurus is a money ruler, so we can focus on opportunities to improve our financial situations and plan for the future. Whether it’s budgeting, saving, or investing, this is a good time to take stock of your resources and recognize the value of your hard work. By doing so, you can align your financial life with your personal values, leading to a more secure future. During this full moon, we can maximize resources we have, and get our hands on new resources. This can help improve stability and security in our lives, and as we improve stability and security, we can get more opportunities for money and resources.

Taurus The Sign Of The Body

Taurus is a fixed earth sign because of this; it is one of the most body-centered (and centering) signs of the zodiac. When the Moon is in the sign of Taurus we are reminded of the sacredness of our physical form. Taurus asks us to sit with ourselves fully. Not in an intellectual way, or spiritual way but, in a physical way. It asks us to take time to notice the breath entering our lungs, the beating of our hearts, the movement in our blood, the tension in our muscles, pressure on our bones, and sensations from our senses. When the moon is in Taurus, we are encouraged to revel in our physical being and the pleasure of what we can experience with our sense of touch especially in the realm of sex. Taurus puts an emphasis on creature comforts reminding us to slow down, savor deeply, and reconnect with our physicality by simply enjoying life’s pleasures.

Themes of the Taurus Full moon

Every full Moon contains its own themes, which are related to the sign that it falls under. This time, we experience the full Moon in the grounded, secure, stable, pleasurable, practical, headstrong, and rooted sign of the bull in Taurus. When the Full Moon in Taurus graces the sky, it offers cosmic guidance for grounding yourself in the present moment. The Taurus full Moon, is a powerful moon that amplifies Taurus’ grounded energy, focusing your attention on practical matters and what brings you inner peace.

Keep in mind that the full Moon relates to the continuation of your journey to manifest your desires and dreams. This will be especially strong this full moon being in the sign of our body, security, and stability will feel a need to take intentional steps down the path where all our goals will be met. So, try and have any of your workings based on these topics, and be grounded in those seeds of intention you had planted on the new moon. Don’t forget this full moon is layered with many energies for you to connect to as well like Samhain lingering and the meticulous building abilities of the beaver as your prepare for the winter ahead.

What To Be Cautious Of With The Taurus Full Moon

Our confidence can be high with the Taurus full Moon if we feel secure and take it easy. If we don’t, we may become stubborn about something, and insecurity can lead to lashing out erratically. Be careful with being stubborn as well to not try and move immovable objects and start unneeded conflict. The other thing to be careful of with this moon; is the pull to rest, relax and go inward. It can be very potent and alluring. While taking to time rest and replenish our bodies is important don’t let it go so far you start to avoid responsibilities.

Taurus and duality

Since, I am a grey witch every single energy I work with I look for the duality in that energy and how I can connect to it. This includes the full moon and the energy of the zodiac sign it currently is in. First,  the sign of Taurus while it may be all about abundance, security, stability, and going deep within to be rooted and anchored. That isn’t a light process, or an easy process. To truly fully receive abundance, and be rooted in our sacred contacts and soul purposes. To truly manifest all of our deepest desires, passions, and intentions; we have to face the depths of our pasts, who we really are, and where we have honestly been. In order to have the space and ability to receive it all and most importantly be willing to receive by knowing we are worthy and it is meant to be ours. Doing this opens you to a very liminal space steeped in duality for you to truly do the work needed to benefit from this new moon to its fullest potential.

Root Meditation For Taurus Full Moon

The purpose of this meditation is to help you feel grounded and stable to the earth, and who you are while also replenishing your energy and strength. It also creates a circular current of energy from the earth’s core, through your energetic body, and the celestial body the moon.

How to do:

Find a comfortable position to be in somewhere that you can be alone and be left uninterrupted for a small amount of time. If you want to do this outside under the moon or connecting to the earth you can as well!

Begin by taking four centering breaths in and continue to box breath:

How to box breathe:

Breathe in to the count of four (I measure my count with my heartbeat).
Hold your breath for four counts.
Breathe out for four counts.
Pause for four counts before taking another breath.
Repeat.
This breathing technique helps to quiet the mind and center your focus. I use this not only for meditation, guided work, and magical purposes but, for mental health coping skills as well!

Continuing to breathe gently into the softness of your belly, you are going to begin to visualize yourself within yourself. Visualize yourself pulling back from the edges of your body. Draw your consciousness inwards so that you feel yourself inside of your body as if it were a sacred container/ temple that you can draw back into. Feel yourself growing smaller in the powerful space of your body, drifting down into the sacred portal of energy in your belly, down into your pelvic space. The sacred portal of energy many know as the root chakra or the cauldron of warming.

Remaining within yourself, visualize a root extending from inner-you down deep into the earth. Breathe into this root as it extends downwards into the floor beneath you, and than into the soil. Feel as it expands and grows moving throwing the soil. Past roots of plants and other trees, past rocks, and decaying remains and debris, past critters, and creatures that wiggle in the dirt. You breathe in and on the exhale your root extends even further into the soil stretching as far as it can until you reach the burning hot, molten core at the center of the earth. And you feel the energy of the earth pulsating there ready for you to absorb.

With every out-breath your root extends and with every in-breath you pull up green energy through your roots back into inner-you from that molten hot core in the center of the earth pulsating in front of you. The green energy stretches up into all parts of inner-you until you are completely filled with it from your toes to fingertips to the very top of your head. The energy extends out of the crown of your head skywards in the form of branches, sprouting leaves, and maybe even blooming buds or fruit. With every out-breath your branches extend upwards and with every in-breath your branches pull celestial, lunar, and solar energy into inner-you. Let the currents of green and celestial energy mingle throughout your body creating a circle current from the celestial energy, through you, and into the core of the earth and back again.

When you feel sufficiently charged-up, begin to pull back your roots and branches until they have formed a small but powerful sphere of centered energy in the belly of inner-you. This is a continuous conductor of energy that you can connect to for abundance, growth, and the divine connection between you, the earth, and the celestial body the moon. You can go within yourself, to your sacred container/temple of your body, to access it at any time, including repeating this simple ritual to continue to revitalize your inner energy.

Whenever you are ready you can open your eyes and come fully back to your body by giving yourself a self-massage or squeezing your feet connecting to the energy current you just were connected too.

Working With The Primordial Greek Goddess of Night and Chaos; Nyx

In the beginning of it all there was nothing, a swirling void of darkness and energy. This energy itself was chaos a void or gap in existence. It was all there was. It’s from this intangible nothingness and this void that you have Nyx emerging within the Greek mythology. Greek mythology consists of several different generations of deities. The most well-known and most commonly worshiped historically were the Olympians. Before these came the Titans and before even them were the; Protogenoi. The Protogenoi were the primordial gods like Nyx. According to Greek mythology these primordial gods each represented a different aspect of existence, together they formed the building blocks of the early universe. Nyx represented the darkness, night, and chaos and she played an essential role in shaping the universe and birthing several other important primordial gods. Her power was almost unmatchable and even Zeus the father of the Olympian gods cowered in fear of her. Nyx is the gentle queen of the night, the guardian of shadows, the mother of all that is hidden and sacred. She teaches us to embrace the darkness, not as something to fear, but as a space where we can find ourselves, where we can discover the deepest truths, and where we awaken the collective to the power of chaos and the night. Come join me as we walk in the shadows towards the primordial void of wisdom to learn more about Nyx in this blogpost.

Who is Nyx?

When darkness falls and envelops us in the velvety blackness of night and we hear a women whisper calling our name. That is the goddess Nyx there to give us comfort. wisdom, and pull us into the energy of chaos weaving existence into reality all around us. Nyx is an illusive, mysterious deity associated with the Night, darkness, chaos, creation, destruction, divination (particularly oracular trance and prophecy), love, motherhood, and the mysteries. She held dominion over the shadowy realms and everything that occurred under her dark veil. She was known to govern dreams, prophecies, and the passage of time during night creating the cycle of time in life. She plays an integral role to each one of our lives as the mother of many gods and beings. Each child she birthed holds sway over fundamental human experiences. Since she is a primordial deity, arising from Chaos at the beginning of time she holds a unique place among the gods. She gets to have complete independence and autonomy. She is not subservient to the will of other gods but holds her own unique place in the cosmos. We see this in her stories as she doesn’t interact with many deities outside of her family. Hades, the underworld ruler, was the only other god who used to have rare conversations with her.

Nyx the goddess of Night

Nyx is the very personification of night in Greek mythology and a formidable goddess in her own right. Her name itself literally even translates to mean night. It comes from the Ancient Greek word Nýx, which means “night”. As the first goddess of the night, she existed before creation, representing the shadowy veil that enveloped the universe in its infancy. Nyx is said to have mastered darkness manipulation, which gives her control over the veil of darkness that covers the world at night by controlling the speed and rotation of the planets. As the goddess of night and darkness, she represents the unseen and hidden aspects of existence, embodying the enigma of the night sky and the mysteries of the subconscious.

Nyx the primordial goddess of creation

Although Nyx is the goddess of chaos and destruction she’s also THE goddess of creation. I mean she is the ancestress of every deity. Let me say it again, she is the mother of every deity, the source they all go back to. Since she was there before creation, existing in the weaving energies of chaos. She existed long before Gaia became Mother Earth and Uranus became the sky even. Naturally since she is the primordial mother, Nyx has a very nurturing, comforting and caring side. We see her many times depicted as a motherly figure, offering comfort and protection to favored heroes and those who seek her aid during the night. She was also particularly close to her own children as we see her ask for their assistance with different types of tasks as well, like the story with her son deceit.

Family and Origin

According to Hesiod’s Theogony, Nyx is the daughter of Chaos who prior to her birth was the only being in existence, the initial void that existed before the creation of the universe. She emerged alongside her brother Erebus (Darkness) and played a crucial role in shaping the early cosmogony and everything that we know in the universe. Some even say that Nyx and Erebus hatched an egg that created the Earth, sky, and sea as well. (Orphic beliefs/ tradition) So, really we have the two of them to thank for everything in existence.

Nyx had multiple consorts and was associated with different deities in various traditions. One of her most well-known consorts was her brother, Erebus, who personified the masculine half of darkness and shadow. Nyx and Erebus were considered to be the parents of several significant deities, including Aether (the god of the upper atmosphere), Hemera (the goddess of day), and Charon (the ferryman of the Underworld), Eufrosine, Philotes, Eleos, Styx, and many more. However, like other goddesses, she created multiple descendants on her own and she had many other consorts as well. Her other known children are; Moros, Apate, Dolos, Nemesis, the Keres, the Moirai (the fates), the Hesperides, the Erinyes, Oizys, Momus, Oneiros, Hypnos, Thanatos, Geras, and Eris the goddess of discord and strife.

Myths and legends

Nyx’s appearances in myths varied but were significant and she pops up repeatedly throughout time. She was involved in both benevolent and malevolent events, emphasizing her dual nature and the importance of duality in life and the multiverse. Stories depicted her shielding favored heroes under her veil of darkness while also aiding vengeful acts or initiating treacherous schemes against others. Let’s talk about some of them below.

In Hesiod’s Theogony, Nyx is born as the personification of Night, emerging from Chaos. She couples with the personification of Darkness (Erebus) and gives birth to Doom (Moros), Death (Thanatos), Destruction (Keres), the Fate(s) (The Moirai), Retribution (Nemesis), and more. Hesiod also claims that Nyx lives in Tartarus, the Hell that exists below Hades.

In some versions of Greek mythology, Nyx protected the infant Zeus when he was being hidden from his father Cronus, who intended to devour him. Nyx shielded Zeus under the cover of darkness, allowing him to grow safely until he could eventually overthrow his father and become the ruler of the gods. We see them interact again in Homer’s Iliad, Zeus the all mighty king of the gods, fears Nyx and allows her son Hypnos to go free.

Nyx has shown up a few more times as well, in ancient poems like the Orphic Hymns: once as an Oracle and another time she’s gives birth to the Furies (Erinyes) with Hades, god of the Underworld. In addition to the Greek poems and mythos, Roman writers recorded hymns as offerings to Nyx Goddess of Night.

Nyx also has a prominent role in one version of the story of Echo, a nymph who is cursed to only repeat the words of others. According to the myth, Echo was punished by Hera after she discovered that Echo had distracted Zeus so he couldn’t catch her engaging in an extramarital affair. Nyx is said to have played a role in the curse that befell Echo, providing her with a dark and eerie echo as punishment.

Another legend I found is some say that during the Trojan War, it was Nyx who protected the spies; in fact, fugitives and thieves who run away or who move under the cover of night are her proteges. Some say they work directly for HER while others say they worship her similarly to a protective saint.

Worship of Nyx

When we look at her worship in ancient greece it seemed to go hand-in-hand with other deities. For instance, scholars and historians believe there was no central temple dedicated to Nyx at all but, we do have evidence of a cult existing being dedicated to her. But she may have been honored alongside Artemis in Ephesus, and also Diana and Proserpina in Benevento. We see her statue being found in the citadel of Megara, also known as present day Caria. The statue there is referred to as the “Oracle Nyx” standing alongside temples dedicated to Aphrodite and Dionysus. There is some speculation that referencing her as an “oracle” ties her to the power of prophesying. Whether that means the oracles called on her when they would go into their trances or not is unclear.

What does Nyx look like

When the day ends, the moon rises, and all around you is the blackness; that is Nyx in her most natural form. She is the presence and energy weaving the darkness enveloping you. There are times when Nyx will manifest in a physical, more corporeal form. When she chooses to do this, she typically resembles a large, black bird or a woman with black bird wings. Some sources claim Nyx will appear as a goth-looking woman wearing a black veil studded with stars and a torch in her lefthand.

In other depictions, she often rides a chariot of black horses or dark bulls. She rides it during nighttime with her cloak painting the sky with stars. In some depictions, two of her children, Hypnos and Thanatos, accompany her during the ride. While at other times she is depicted shown as a floating figure in a long black robe, carrying her sons Hypnos and Thanatos in her arms. For me, when she appears typically she appears as a concentrated ethereal, misty, darkness with stars swirling for her eyes and silver bands around her wrist to represent the moon.

Nyx and Tartarus

Nyx lives in the depths of Tartarus, one of the darkest areas of the underworld. Some sources even suggest that the dark misty air around Tartarus is Erebus himself, her husband and brother. Some other deities also live in the same region of the underworld like her children Hemera and Aether where they made the changing from day to night possible.

Every night Nyx would emerge out of the cave with Erebus and block out the light emitted from Aether, which brings night and darkness into the world. In the morning, Hemera would come out from Tartarus and blow away the darkness of the night. But, the mother and daughter can’t be seen together at the same time with one being night and the other being daylight. So, in other words, as soon as the darkness fades away, Nyx would return to her abode and leave her daughter there to shine.

Nyx and her relationship to Hecate/Hekate

Hecate is often invoked alongside Nyx in modern worship, with the two goddesses of darkness seen as powerful allies and companions in the world of the night. While they are companions of the darkness they do still have very distinct and separate roles. Nyx, is the primordial goddess of night, emerging from Chaos at the beginning of time. She is the personification of the night and holds power over darkness, dreams, and the mysteries of the unseen. While Hecate, on the other hand, is younger and according to some even Nyx’s daughter. She is often associated with magic, witchcraft, and the crossroads. She is considered a liminal deity, bridging the realms of the living, the dead, and the divine. To learn more about Hecate/Hekate check out my class with DiviNation Academy about her here.

Nyx and duality

Since I am a grey witch every single energy I work with I look at how it can help me maintain balance and how it can represent the cosmic energy of duality. Nyx’s dual nature as both nurturing and formidable is the first thing that comes to mind when working with her. She is deeply nurturing to her many children and you feel that in the darkness she envelopes you in it as you look into the mysteries of your own soul and the wisdom of the cosmos. While on the other hand she is such a primordial and formidable power you are in nothing but awe as she guides you into the void of ancient cosmic wisdom. This wisdom is so primordial it takes you back to the heart of the collective where you are reminded of how small you are in the fabric of existence. She represents the duality of light and dark, creation and destruction, and peace and fear. Reminding us that darkness is both a source of fear and the unknown, but also a time for rest and renewal.

How To Know Nyx Is Calling To Work With You

I get asked this question every time I write or teach about a goddess and even though some consider her a monster, for many witches and pagans, myself included she comes to them as a goddess. Remember, signs and messages appear in many different ways and are unique to the individual. It’s ultimately up to you to discern by opening up your clares, paying attention and listening to your intuition. Also, remember you can choose to work with her as well even if you don’t feel her calling to you. You can be the one to begin building that relationship by reaching out. Below is a list of some ways that you may know she is reaching out to you.

  • If you work best at night or are a night owl
  • You find yourself going and gazing up at the black starry night often
  • You feel a pull to work with darkness and chaos
  • Chaos magic is part of your path and practice
  • You are interested in working with deities of death
  • You feel drawn to any of her children in your life and practice like the three fates, Thanatos, nemesis, moros, Hypnos, etc.
  • You hear a feminine whisper calling your name in the night, the dark, or the shadows
  • She appears to you in a vision, dream, meditation, or prayer
  • You start to see her symbols like the moon, or chariot popping up in your life often like in media, books, or your daily life
  • You get gifted something that is related to her
  • You hear her name randomly throughout the day or think of her often
  • If you experience an awakening under the moonlight in the darkness of night
  • You are an old soul
  • You are a mystic seeking ancient primordial cosmic knowlege
  • You are seeking to understand duality and balance your life
  • You are feeling the pull of shadow work

Ways To Work With and Connect To Nyx

Everyone’s relationship with deities is different and we all work with and believe in them differently. You might believe in multiple gods and goddesses and work with them each as though they are close, personal friends. Or maybe you believe the old gods are reflections of Universal energy and simply archetype energies that you can learn a lesson from. However you incorporate deities in your practice is up to you. If you need help to figure this out you can purchase my eBook here on the Introduction to working with pagan deities.

But here are some ideas to get you started on ways to work with Nyx. Remember; it’s important to approach her with respect, reverence, gratitude and by building a relationship with her. Every time you work with a deity it is an even energetic exchange; which means what you put into your intention when working with them and building your relationship to them is what you get back.

Study, get to know her

As with every deity I have ever written about or taught about, The first way to get to know a deity, specifically a goddess like Nyx is to study all you can about her. Look at the different versions of her origin, and how she is the mother to so many deities that are integral to our human experience. Try to grasp and understand how truly old she is and the power she had over others. Including the fear she instilled in deities like Zeus himself. You can even, study the culture, region, and worship of the people of Greece where she is from. The more you study and learn the better! When working with a deity it is all about building a true relationship with them and you do this first by getting to know who they are.

Call on Nyx during shadow work

Just like with every other deity I have ever written or taught about shadow work is a phenomenal way to connect to and work with the goddess Nyx. Nyx’s association with night and darkness is seen as a representation of the mysteries of the unseen and the hidden aspects of the self. She is the mother of mysteries, of all that is hidden and profound. Ask Nyx to help you explore your own shadows, embrace your inner darkness, and gain insights from your subconscious through the practice of shadow work.

If you would like to learn more about shadow work you can purchase my eBook here; you can book me for a 1:1 session as your guide here;  and you can watch my free class previously taught on it through Divination here. And don’t forget to register for new 6 week workshop series Embracing your shadow here!

Working with Dreams and aid in sleep

As the deity governing dreams, Nyx is often called upon in dream-related spell work and divination. It is said she can help you have some really prophetic dreams. I can’t attest to this as I don’t have access to the dream world ever so, I don’t work with dream magic. But, you can still ask for her guidance to interpret dreams, enhance dream recall, or even induce lucid dreaming for spiritual exploration. You can add her sigil to a spell bag to assist with dream recall, having sweet dreams, and helping you go to sleep and then place it under your bed or pillow welcoming her into your dream realm. In addition, ask Nyx to visit you in your dreams and teach you lessons that you currently need to learn. Then record every encounter with her in your journal, book of shadows, or grimoire.

Dedicate Altar Space

Set aside some space in honor of Nyx. This can be an elaborate large altar or as simple as a small shelf or corner of a counter. Place a representation of Nyx there; be sure to cleanse the space before you invite her in. Include all of her colors, her symbols, and representations of the night and any of her other correspondences you can use to connect to her. This will be a container that reminds you to connect with her and her energy. To allow you a container of primordial chaotic and creative energy to connect too.

Include her in Lunar Magic

The night is intimately linked with the moon, and Nyx’s connection to the nocturnal sky aligns her with lunar energies. lunar magic plays a crucial role, and Nyx is sometimes invoked during Full Moon rituals for heightened intuition, spiritual growth, and transformation. While on the other hand she is also invoked during the new moon for creativity, manifestation, and helping you connect to chaos from which you were born from. To learn all about Lunar magic and how you can add her to it, you can read my guide all about here and take a look at the entire page all about the moon as well!

Divination and Prophecy

As the goddess of night and the unknown, Nyx is associated with divination and the ability to gain insights into the future. In witchcraft practices, she may be invoked when performing divination rituals, seeking guidance from the higher realms, or exploring one’s destiny.

Meditation and visualization

One of the best ways to channel divine energy and tap into goddesses like Nyx is through meditation and visualization. These practices allow you to open up and receive/ connect to divine energy in a very intuitive, clear, and transformative way. You will find a plethora of guided meditations on YouTube that will lead you to your spirit guide or god/goddess.. Try those if you have a hard time meditating on your own. I have many classes on YouTube as well on previous deities you can watch where I even summon and guide you to them in sacred container.

Offerings

Everyone loves receiving gifts, and that includes deities like Nyx. You don’t have to give her offerings every day, but when you feel it is appropriate. You can place these offerings at your altar or simply leave them for her outside in the dark under the moonlight. Even better leave it at the mouth of dark cave as well. You can also give her offerings when performing any work to connect to her like meditation, prayer, visualization, and spell work. Below I will list some of the best offerings you can give her, but keep in mind these are just some ideas from my own personal experience with her and her corresponding energies. Just follow your intuition.

  • Milk
  • Items with stars on it
  • Moonwater
  • Owl figurines
  • things you have created like poems, pieces, of art
  • red wine
  • Coffee beans
  • Dark chocolate
  • Eggs
  • Dark colored feathers
  • things with the symbol of the moon on it
  • poppy seeds
  • black mirror
  • black veil
  • Images of her or statues of her
  • moon cakes
  • black and blue candles

Ritual for when you feel lost or stuck

You can call on Nyx for rituals when you feel lost or stuck in life with no light to guide you. Let Nyx grab your hand and guide you through the darkness and illuminate the way. This ritual is meant to bring inner peace and clarity regarding your problems through the goddess of night. To perform this ritual, you have to start meditating with Nyx while enhancing the clarity of your thoughts.

  • Use light incense like Sandalwood or Rosemary
  • Keep the room dark and quiet and perform the ritual at night, preferably under the full moon.
  • Close your eyes and focus on breathing.
  • Call for Nyx and start explaining your situation.
  • Listen to her as she illuminates the way

Prayers

One very powerful way to connect to a deity is through prayer. Things to Pray for: protection, power, understanding and unlocking your own personal power, fertility, transformation, shedding an identity, fertility, creativity, the darkness, chaos, time, accessing the unknown, truth, motherhood, and connecting to your soul.

“Nyx, mother of the night, mother of sleep, mother of death:
Might your darkness embrace me
Might your energy caress me
Might you be mine and Might I be yours
Blessed be.“

“Lady of the Night, Nyx of Shadow and Mystery,
We honor you and ask for your presence in this sacred space.
May your wisdom guide us in the darkness,
Your intuition lead us to hidden truths,
And your power protect us from all that would harm us.
Nyx of the Night, be with us now and always.
Hail and blessed be.”

Other ways to work with Nyx

Why work with Nyx

So, after all we have talked about why should you work with Nyx? Picture the very fabric of the universe in its infancy. Before there was anything and anyone. The multiverse a blank canvas waiting to be created. Here you find Nyx, an elemental, primordial, divine force personifying darkness and night. She emerges from Chaos, the swirling void of nothingness, as one of the first beings in existence, making her a primordial goddess of immense power. Now, ask yourself why wouldn’t you want to work with her? Why wouldn’t you want to call to the very beginning of time, the universe and the existence of everything in reality including the personification of your very own soul? On top of her connection to chaos, her connection to night and darkness is something worth working with. Remember, night is more than just the absence of light. It is a realm all of it’s own. A container where mysteries dwell and where wisdom is born. In the heart of darkness, Nyx reigns. Her domain is not one of fear, but of profound possibility, growth, and transformation. There is so much wisdom that comes only when we allow ourselves to sink into the quiet places of our soul. Nyx teaches us that there is beauty in the unseen, that there is power in what we do not yet know.

October’s full moon brings the season of the hunt, preservation, and preparation for the icy cold days and nights to come. As you can imagine, any Full Moon close to Samhain, Halloween, and Alfablot, will be a powerful, mystical, and transitional time. The energy will be intense and pull us into the depths of darkness in both nature and ourselves, as the veil is getting closer to being pulled back all around us. This full moon we will also find ourselves in the headstrong, motivated, energetic, confident, independent, and passionate fire sign of the ram, Aries. The full Moon in Aries is set to ignite a fiery burst of energy to burn away all that holds us back and no longer serves us. To Start a bright, burning, raging fire of change, and a passionate pursuit of our goals. This fire is meant to keep us warm as we nestle alongside it during the long, dark, cold winter months ahead.

Keep reading to learn all about this Aries full moon, how it will affect you, and how you can harness it in your life and magical practice. By aligning yourself with the energy of the hunters full Moon in Aries, you can prepare for the dark winter months ahead by tapping into your inner strength and unleashing your full potential, passion, and inner warrior.

The Hunter’s Moon

This full moon is also known as the Hunter’s moon. The Hunter’s Moon typically occurs in October, right after the Harvest Moon of September. Since the Harvest Moon is closest to the autumn equinox, the Hunter’s Moon is our signal for the days getting shorter and the nights getting longer. In ancient times, it became known as the Hunter’s Moon because the approach of winter meant it was time to hunt and prepare to store food to feed your family during the long cold winter months ahead. During this time animals would be fattening up and getting ready to hibernate, and conditions were ideal for hunters to get all the meat they could to add to their families stores.

This full moon, which occurs in the heart of autumn, marks a season of preparation, introspection, and connection with the natural world. The Hunter’s Moon symbolizes recognizing the cold and darkness in our own lives and preparing to face them. Internal reflection and self-recognition take center stage during the Hunter’s Moon. Reminding us that darkness may lie ahead, but only by preparing to face it will you find a way to not only survive but, to thrive. It’s also a time that draws us close to the rhythms, and cycles of nature all around us. In order to be good hunters we have to understand the land we are on and the animals we are attempting to track. So, this full moon really pulls us to immerse ourselves deeply into the nature all around. The hunter’s moon has always played a part in humanity’s survival letting us know it was time for the gathering of essential resources.

As with most pagan names there will be different ones for each culture so below I listed any of the other names for the hunter’s moon I could find across the Earth. The common themes among them is focusing on preparation, introspection, connection, and the coming dark days ahead.

Who is Aries?

Like, I said before each full moon will be amplified and influenced by the zodiac sign we find it in and this time the full moon is in the sign of Aries. So who is Aries?

Aries symbolized by the ram is the first sign of the zodiac which makes it the go-getter of the Zodiac. People born between March 21st and April 19th are considered Aries. As the first sign of the zodiac, Aries symbolizes new beginnings, assertiveness, and the pursuit of our passions. It’s ruled by Mars, the God of war, making the ram a fearless fighter. Aries is a fire sign, and its energy is passionate, dynamic, and driven. Through the sign of the Ram, we tap into our inner fire, embody our inner warrior, and work on developing a conscious relationship with our anger. Aries is the sign to commit to personal goals and have the fiery motivation to see them through to the end. Aries is the sign to connect us with our capacity to be the leaders of our lives, to take paths that no one ever walked before, to go toward the direction that instinctively calls to us. Aries, is known to be a little bit faster to react because, they are more intrigued by doing something they’ve never done before. Being ruled by mars Aries is much more willing to take a risk or take a gamble by pushing into the unknown and usually being the first one to do it as well.

Aries Constellation

Aries is one of the smallest constellations of the zodiac sitting in Northern sky. This constellation is located between Pisces to the west and Taurus to the east. The constellation has been associated with a ram since ancient times. In ancient Babylon, the Aries star constellation was known by the name CHUN-GA, or Aries. Also, the Persians, the ancient Egyptians, and the Minoans called it ‘Aries’ as well. Ultimately, by way of Greece, the constellation came to Rome, where astronomers gave it the Latin name ‘Aries’; meaning ram.

I find that Aries has one of the largest varieties of legends and myths about it’s placement in the skies and it’s association with the ram. One of the simplest and most commonly known legends attributes the name of the constellation to Zeus, who turned into a ram while fleeing the overpowering Titans which is why the image was place amongst the stars.

In another, less well known telling of the Aries constellation myth, a Roman writer Hygenius describes how Bacchus aka Dionysus (greek), the god of wine, together with his cheerful entourage, unexpectedly lost his way in the vastness of the Libyan Desert. In this dry wasteland, they were soon plagued by terrible thirst. Fortunately, they met a friendly ram that led Bacchus and his party to a source of water, saving them from certain death. In gratitude, Bacchus placed the ram amongst the stars in the heavens for all eternity.

In the most well known Aries constellation myth of Greek origin, King Athamas appointed his eldest son Phrixos as his heir to the throne. His current wife, Ino, however, wanted to see her own son named the heir. For this reason, the queen devised a plan to cause the crops of their land to not flourish and grow. She let the seed rot and spoil, so when they were planted the following year they would not be able to grow.

Once the crops that season had failed to grow she convinced her husband, the king to consult an oracle that she had visited prior and had under her control. He was told that if he wanted to avoid another crop failure in the following year, he would have to sacrifice his son Phrixos; the one he had named as his heir.

The king had agreed but, on the day of the offering, a magnificent ram, summoned by Nephele (Phrixos’s biological mother) appeared in a shining golden fleece. Phrixos and his sister, Helle, swiftly mounted the ram’s back and flew away. But high above the strait separating Europe and Asia, Helle fell into the sea, where she drowned. The ram flew on with Phrixos on his back to the land of Colchis, where the boy was well received. Upon the Ram’s wish as a thanks for his service; Phrixos sacrificed him to the gods where he now resides in the heavens among the stars for all eternity.

Aries The Primal Sign Of Passion

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac which means it is the big bang, our life force, the element of fire, primal passion, anger, rage, and ruled by Mars the God of War- this sign is the sign of life itself. It is the spark needed to light the tinder for existence to evolve. It is our will to persist no matter what obstacles are in our way. This sign is a Cardinal sign which means it is a leader, an initiator, and a visionary of the cosmos.

This full Moon is a time to embrace our inner warrior. Aries is ruled by Mars, the planet of action, passion, and aggression. During this full Moon, we may feel a surge of energy, passion, and assertiveness. We can use this energy to break free from old patterns and beliefs that no longer serve us. We can assert our boundaries, speak our truth, and take action toward our deepest desires with the flames of burning passion.

Aries The Sign Of Independence

This sign is also a sign of independence which means it’s a time to focus on what YOU really truly want for YOU and not for others. You will feel many things coming up for you that may surprise you especially if you are a people pleaser. The energy of Aries really pushes you to think about what makes YOU and YOU alone happy and whole. One of Aries’ “lessons” is to show a pure part of ourselves to the world. By acting upon our own inner impulses (constructive ones!) without fear, and by abandoning the need to refine these impulses based on what others might want us to do or what others think we “should” do, we learn more about ourselves. If we learn to depend on ourselves, we exude an all-new aura of strength that comes from personal integrity and confidence, and strength.

Aries the sign of action

Aries is the zodiac sign of action, as it is associated with initiation, taking the lead, and making a mark on the world. Aries draws fire into the atmosphere, stimulating life force and vitality pushing us into action. Aries it the energy that lights the fire in our soul driving us to make our mark on the world. Aries teaches us that courage is the key to unlocking our full potential. And that comes from connecting your head to your heart, focusing your will, and taking consistent action. Aries is a cardinal sign, which means it is associated with taking the lead and driving change. Aries is nothing if not bold, preferring to act first and think later never hesitating to step into the unknown.

Aries the ruler of self

Since Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, Aries is also the ruler of the first house in astrology. Which is often called the house of self. In this house you are given a window into understanding more about your outward appearance, traits, characteristics, outlook, and sense of expression. This house is the location of your ascendant or rising sign, which speaks to how you present yourself in the world. Since Aries rules this house, Aries represents consciousness, that first awareness of the self, separate from others and eager to explore the world. Aries is the personal fire deep within your soul, it’s our true self. Aries is the zodiac sign that blazes with a strong sense of self-worth, self-assurance, and self- confidence. Aries has the purest sense of self it’s the sign that truly navigates life in the 1st person perspective and approaches the world only as they authentically are.

What To Be Cautious Of With The Aries Full Moon

Amidst the beauty of this lunar energy, there may also be feelings of explosive anger and outbursts. The energy of Aries is grounded in Mars, which is all about aggression, war, and conflict. So, take the time to stop and think before you let the little things allow you to blow up right now and create conflicts in your life by making small things bigger than they need to be. It is essential during this time to stay grounded, and connected to who you are so your emotions don’t allow you to wander from your goals, let your ego get in the way, or allow your anger to create unnecessary conflict with others.

Also remember, as you tap into Aries’ pioneering spirit, that Full Moons also highlight balance. While you may feel the urge to charge ahead, don’t forget to pause, reflect, and ensure that your actions align with your higher purpose. Aries can sometimes push us toward impulsive decisions, so let the glow of this Full Moon guide you with both confidence and mindfulness. It’s great to let our passion and motivation propel us forward without fear, but also remember that fear does serve a purpose. It keeps us safe and whole. So, while you use that bold, assertive, and headstrong Aries energy to pursue your dreams and goals make sure you listen to red flags of urgent danger that pop up along the way.

Aries and duality

Since, I am a grey witch every single energy I work with I look for the duality in that energy and how I can connect to it. This includes the full moon and the energy of the zodiac sign it currently is in. First, the full moon itself is all about duality as it is another time of transformation, transition, and rebirth. During this time we are pushed into a liminal space that forces us to look at the things, people, and places that have been obstacles or holding us back. This can be a thing of beauty and hope as well as a thing of pain and darkness which forces us into duality. Next, let’s look at the duality of Aries itself. Aries is known for being assertive and enjoying excitement, which can make it an energy that is full of passion, confidence and a bit impulsive. Which is an amazing energy for being able to truly let go of things no longer serving you by burning it away and moving forward in life with fiery motivation and passion. It can also be a potent time to really take steps towards the biggest goals for you unique path in life. However, it can also be known for that passion turning into a fiery temper. Which can cause us to lash out in anger towards those who are only trying to help us meet our goals and walk down our intended path. Once we feel discord in our relationships because of our own anger, it can make us feel isolated and cause us to no longer focus on the passion of this energy to meet our goals.

Ritual To Connect To Your Anger

Working with our anger can be a powerful, potent, and liberating experience. Anger in and of itself is not a negative thing to experience. No emotion is negative since every emotion serves a function and is sending us a message. How we use our anger is what determines whether it’s constructive or destructive. As the Aries full moon summons your inner warrior, think of your anger as a battle cry to pay attention to your boundaries, your passions, and your unmet needs and/or desires. If you’ve been letting someone push you around, it’s time to address the unworkable behavior and create a new way of interacting. Don’t be afraid to simply just let some pent up anger out as well by just letting a scream, yell, shout, or cry out to mother nature and the cosmos.

Use the journal prompts below to connect to your anger in a quiet sacred container. You can amplify the affect right now by having a red, orange, or white candle burning next to you as you do this work. The candle will help you connect to the element of fire, the planet mars, and the energy of Aries. Once you have completed the prompts below, you can than take the answers and burn the list in your candle flame to release any of the unwanted and negative affects of the anger you have been harnessing during this session. Don’t forget to visualize you harnessing your anger in a productive and constructive way in the future to manifest it into you life as you are also releasing the unwanted affects. To add some more potent energy to connect to the hunter’s moon you can add some bay leaves in the fire as well for releasing, cleansing, and banishing properties.

  • How does my anger hold me back?
  • When was the last time I felt very angry and what was the trigger?
  • What happens to my body when I am angry?
  • Are there any behaviors I do when I am angry I would life to change?
  • How do I currently handle anger? How would I like to handle my anger?
  • Do you have areas in your life you need to harness your anger to be more assertive?
  • Are there areas or causes in my life I need to harness my anger for the sake of justice and protecting others?
  • Is my anger being mistaken for something else? Like loneliness, hurt, passion, assertiveness etc.
  • Where in my life do I need to let go of anger and what does that look like?

Working with the emotional, intuitive, and spiritual Pisces Harvest Full Moon

We are entering a new lunar phase this week; the full moon on September 17th. As the Moon changes signs approximately every 2-3 days, we feel her influence over our moods and intuition shift. This full moon we will find ourselves in the; creative, spiritual, compassionate, empathetic, and dreamy sign of Pisces. Pisces is the clairvoyant of the zodiac. It is a sign with a deep sensitivity to those around them and heightened sense of intuition. This full moon in the water sign Pisces, is special as it will be accompanied by a lunar eclipse as well. Plus this is the start of a whole new eclipse set. Which means we have some very potent and powerful energy, pushing us into a new phase of our lives unfolding in front of us during this creative pisces full moon.

The Full Moon in Pisces is a period that stirs the waters of your innermost psyche, often bringing with it a tide of deep emotions and heightened intuition. It’s a time when we will place greater focus on our spirituality, our intuition, our subconscious, what’s hidden, and the past. We will be pulled to strengthen ourselves internally, quietly, and on our own. Pisces is the last sign of the Zodiac, and Lunar Eclipses tie to endings, so this can be a big eclipse for finishing something. To finish something that is meant to truly allow us to move and heal in our lives and evolve. This full moon and lunar eclipse can also be huge for releasing baggage, whether it’s spiritual, subconscious, or karmic. We will likely being faced with something from the past or within ourselves that is difficult, but we have to come to terms with it and try to be more understanding, introspective, and ultimately let it go so it’s not weighing us down anymore.

The Energy of a lunar eclipse

So, what about the lunar eclipse energy happening right now? if you go online especially on social media you will see countless warnings telling you not do any workings during a lunar eclipse including making moon water. They say its a time of bad omens, and a time that is too chaotic to harness and work with. I simply don’t agree with this. This may be because I am a grey witch. I just don’t see why we can’t work with a moon phase that is chaotic. The universe and all that exists within it sprouted from chaos or nothingness. This is common theme in belief systems, cultures, and stories across the Earth and time like in Mesopotamia with the goddess Tiamat. So, wouldn’t working with chaos like the lunar eclipse be a very primal and potent things for us humans to do? I think so. But, it will be up to you and what you decide for your own practices and beliefs.

This eclipse is also a time to close a karmic chapter and cycle in our lives and begin writing the next new chapter. Eclipses tie to endings, so this can be a big eclipse for finishing something. To finish something that is meant to truly allow us to move and heal in our lives and evolve. This full moon and lunar eclipse energy combined together can also be huge for releasing baggage, whether it’s spiritual, emotional, subconscious, or karmic.

The harvest moon

This full moon is also known as the harvest moon. The harvest moon is a full moon that occurs closest to the autumnal equinox, which is usually around September 22 or 23 in the Northern Hemisphere. It’s named for its role in helping farmers harvest crops by providing bright moonlight after sunset for several nights in a row, which is when they could gather the most crops. The Harvest Moon’s glow is often seen as a reminder of the abundance provided by the Earth’s cycles. It serves as a visual representation of the fruits of one’s labor and a time to express gratitude for the bounties received. It symbolizes the continuous cycle of growth, harvest, and renewal. Just as farmers gather crops during the harvest, September’s Full Moon invites introspection and the “harvesting” of inner wisdom and insights. It’s a time for self-reflection, meditation, and inner exploration.

The history of the this moon also intertwines with cultural practices and folklore. In China, the Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is celebrated during this Moon. Families come together to give thanks for the harvest, share mooncakes, and admire the moon’s beauty. Similarly, Native American tribes have their own traditions associated with the Harvest Moon. The Ojibwe people call it “Manoominike-Giizis,” the Rice-making Moon, as it signals the time to harvest wild rice.

As with most pagan names there will be different ones for each culture so below I listed any of the other names for the harvest moon I could find across the Earth. The common theme among them is focusing on gratitude and the bounty that has been grown from earth this year.

Who is Pisces?

Pisces is a water sign, ruled by the planet Neptune, and is the 12th and final sign of the zodiac. People born between February 19 and March 20 are Pisces. It’s symbolized by two fish swimming in opposite directions, representing the constant division of Pisces’ attention between fantasy and reality. As the final sign, Pisces has absorbed every lesson—the joys and the pains, the hopes and the fears—learned by all of the other signs. This makes these fish the most psychic, empathetic, and compassionate creatures of the astrological wheel.

Since, Pisces is ruled by Neptune, the planet that governs creativity and dreams; these ethereal fish adore exploring their boundless imaginations. But, Neptune also oversees illusion and escapism. Neptune’s energy is like the energy of the ocean: magical, mysterious, and often scary. When the fog is thick on the water, the horizon is obstructed and there is no differentiation between the sea and the sky.

Pisces the Constellation

The Pisces constellation is one of the largest northern sky constellations. Pisces lies between Aries constellation to the east and Aquarius to the west. . According to legend the constellation is composed of two fish who are connected together by a ribbon. The fish are the goddess Aphrodite and her son Eros (Roman: Venus and Cupid). They turned themselves into fish in order to escape from the monster Typhon. They then connected themselves together with a ribbon in order not to be separated. There is also a different origin tale that Hyginus preserved in another work. According to this, an egg rolled into the Euphrates, and some fishes nudged this to the shore, after which the doves sat on the egg until Aphrodite (thereafter called the Syrian Goddess) hatched out of it. The fishes were then rewarded by being placed in the skies as a constellation.

Pisces The Most Potent Time To Manifest

Pisces is the last Zodiac sign, so we may also take some time to clear things out and make room for anything new to come. We can reflect more on the past, but in a less emotional way, and get more understanding. This full Moon activates a deep desire to go within the ocean of soul and face the things truly holding us back, to make our wildest dreams a reality. There is a sense of things finally beginning to move forward after a prolonged period of stagnation with an intense power push for change.

The full Moon in Pisces is a time of healing, a time of magic, and most importantly, one of the most potent times to practice manifestation work. That’s because Pisces is ruled by Neptune, the planet of imagination and mysticism, which means you’ll not only be more connected to your creativity but also your spiritual center. You have the opportunity to slip into the flow and waters of life now. When that happens, you want what is happening and what is happening is what you want. Your manifesting is working perfectly

Pisces The Sign of Creativity

The Pisces full Moon can be a great time for creativity since Pisces rules imagination and fantasy, and we can get lost in daydreams. This can be channeled into creative projects and ventures, and we can get inspired more easily. The energy of Pisces guides us to go with the flow, to be less concerned with planning and plotting, and instead, to bring ourselves into the present moment. Which may feel really nice after coming off the meticulous, busy, always planning, Virgo new moon we just experienced. While we may not have all the answers and be in a state of unknowing, this full Moon reminds us that this is where our true creative powers lie.

Pisces The Sign of Compassion and Empathy

Pisces is a compassionate sign, so empathy and understanding can also be strong with this full Moon. We may want to be of help in new ways, and focus on trying to help those who can’t help themselves. At the center of the Pisces full Moon lie themes of healing, kindness, and sensitivity. This lunar phase invites us to nurture our emotional well-being, cultivate compassion for ourselves and others, and embrace the healing power of love and forgiveness. You can utilize the energy of this full moon to heal relationships by releasing toxic ones that no longer serve us and truly cutting those chords. You can look into the depths of your soul to face past hurts in a relationship and heal deep wounds that may still be lingering causing resentment and friction.

Pisces The Sign of Spirituality

Pisces is the sign of spirituality, so this can be a time to start new spiritual ventures. We can make more time to connect with our intuition and subconscious mind, and we can feel more in tune with the subtle energies all around us. It is an energetic frequency that dissolves boundaries, allowing us to tap into the collective consciousness and access deeper layers of intuition. This full moon ask you to dive deep into your unconsciousness and bring up the surface the feelings you have held about yourself that are holding you back. From your connection to the divine, magic, and your power. Once you have brought them to the surface you will have the ability to finally release them and move forward onto the next chapter unfolding now in front of you.

Pisces The Ruler of What’s Hidden

Pisces rules what’s hidden, so we may become aware of something that has been hidden, some sort of secret, whether its being kept from us by others or ourselves. We can also find we do our best on our own, in the background, and behind the scenes. It reminds us that while being authentic and open with others is great to do, we don’t always need to tell everyone our WHOLE truth. It encourages us to tap into the realm of dreams and imagination, including things we never think we could see. To envision a future aligned with our soul’s purpose and our wildest dreams. Pisces inspires us to imagine things we have yet to even know our soul has dreamed.

Themes Of The Pisces Full Moon

Every full Moon contains its own themes, which are related to the sign that it falls under. This time, we experience the full Moon in the dreamy, creative, and spiritual Water sign Pisces. Pisces is also a Mutable sign, the most adaptable and flexible of the signs. That means that you’ll be better equipped to handle any of the emotional sensitivity or mood swings that typically accompany a full Moon with all the release work and letting go. You’ll also be better prepared to find creative solutions to any challenges or issues you’ve been facing because you’ll feel both more creative and better able to go with the flow. If the Pisces fish can teach us anything, it’s that there are no wrong paths. The two fish of Pisces swim in opposite directions, and yet, their journey is a circle meaning they will eventually both land in the same place.

Keep in mind that the full Moon relates to the continuation of your journey to manifest your desires and dreams. And this is especially strong this full moon being in the sign that rules our dreamscapes, Pisces. So, try and have any of your workings based on these topics be grounded in those seeds of intention you had planted on the new moon. Don’t forget this full moon is layered with many energies for you to connect to as well like the gratitude of September and the intense rebirth of the lunar eclipse.

Things to look out for with Pisces

Amidst the beauty of this lunar energy, there may also be feelings of emotional overwhelm. Pisces energy can easily blur the boundaries between fantasy and reality, leading to confusion and escapism, including a lot getting lost in daydreaming. It is essential during this time to stay grounded, to honor our emotions without becoming overwhelmed by them, and to cultivate practices that promote inner peace and clarity.

Pisces and duality

Since, I am a grey witch every single energy I work with I look for the duality in that energy and how I can connect to it. This includes the full moon and the energy of the zodiac sign it currently is in. First, the full moon itself is all about duality as it is another time of transformation, transition, and rebirth. During this time we are pushed into a liminal space that forces us to look at the things, people, and places that have been obstacles or holding us back. This can be a thing of beauty and hope as well as a thing of pain and darkness which forces us into duality. Next, let’s look at the duality of Pisces itself. First, we see it in the representation of the two fishes in it’s symbol. It shows us that the two fish even though they may be swimming different directions. They will always eventually meet with each other at the same spot to complete their cosmic circle. We also see the essence of duality in the way Pisces calls us into the deep to look at our deepest emotions, and wounds guiding us to release them. This is a needed thing for healing and change but, the depths of the emotions can also feel like they are drowning us amongst their rough waves.

Correspondences for the Pisces

First, what is a correspondence? ,A correspondence is an item or symbol that is meant to connect you to a specific energy thru it’s representation. Release Your Emotions With Worry Water

The ritual I am bringing to you for this emotional, expressive, and intuitive full moon in watery Pisces is a simple one it may seem, but it is a favorite of mine to do whenever we are in a water sign. Water signs open up such a deep, potent portal to our emotions in the most intuitive and compassionate way. This portal allows us to view some emotions we may not have been able to see in the depths before Pisces floats them up to the surface for us to see. This ritual even has more power behind it with Pisces being the sign of hidden things in the depths of our subconscious.

So, let’s learn how to release our emotions by making worry water. All you will need for this is a bowl of water its best if it is in a clear bowl and bonus energy if it is moon water. And then a quiet space you can be alone and uninterrupted for a little while. If you like to have candles, crystals, incense, or tools when you enter your sacred container those are optional for you to use here as well.

How to perform this ritual and make worry water

  • Go to the spot you can get enter your sacred container. Get into a comfortable position with your bowl of water in front of you.
  • If you are using extra tools like candles you set up your tools now and light candles or incense if need to.
  • Take some deep breaths in and out as you began to visualize protective, compassionate, expressive, energy entering your container and enveloping you.
  • As you feel that energy around you look into the bowl, you can even touch the water or pick the bowl up if you feel the desire to, than speak, whisper, or even yell all of your stresses, worries, fears, secrets, hidden emotions and hardships into your bowl of water.
  • Allow the element of water to absorb all those feelings, those unwanted energies and things, and hidden emotions you may have rushing thru yo. Allow it to transmute those emotions into healing, growth, and awareness.
  • Once you feel you have released all the emotions you need to into your bowl of water you can thank it for being a place to absorb and transmute all of this for you, than take your bowl of water and either dump it down the drain, flush it down the toilet or pour it out to the earth if you can.

Full Moon Ritual Bath Purification Prayer

This bath will cleanse the body, mind, emotions, of anything unwanted and blocking your intentions, success, and desires. It will also remove stagnant energy and/or energy that is not yours, that may be causing you difficulties on a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual level. For three consecutive nights (the day before, the day of, and the day after the full moon) create this bath to wash, cleanse and purify your body in.

While you are drawing your bath, and after you have created your sacred container by adding candles (preferably white) music or anything else you would like to add, bring this herbal mixture to a boil on the stovetop. Rue (or rosemary), white sage, Lavender, rose buds, pink salt, and basil. Once your mixture has turned into a tea on the stove top take it and head to your tub. As you pour the mixture in recite this purification prayer below.

“I release the unforgivable, and all the things that cause me deep seeded fear and hold me back. The things that hold me back from being my true self, accomplishing my goals, and having endless success. I release the emotional pain that I carry with me each and every day. Get into your tub; cleanse and wash your body from head to toe as you visualize that cleansing energy go over every inch of your body. Soak in the tub for at least 15 minutes. If you do not have a tub: Pour the herbal water over your head and body in the shower and do your best to ensure that the water touches all parts of your body, including private parts. Do not rinse. It is best not to towel dry and instead let the body air dry as much as possible.

Working with the Introspective, detail orientated, and helpful Virgo New Moon

We are entering a new lunar phase this week, on September 2nd; the New moon. As the Moon changes signs approximately every 2-3 days, we feel the influence over our moods and intuition shift. This month we find the moon in the practical, organized, productive, grounded, nurturing, compassionate, helpful, reflective, and detail orientated sign of the maiden; Virgo. As the moon begins her cycle in the sign Virgo; we feel a deep, introspective, and comforting pull to go deep within the soils of who we are to reflect. Virgo reminds us of the power each of our daily actions and decisions has. While pushing us to make the changes we must. This new moon calls for us to look at our own lives to see where we want to put some attention to detail towards ourselves.

When the New Moon in Virgo arrives, it’s a good time to embrace fresh starts and new beginnings. As an earth sign, Virgo’s energy encourages you to get organized and focus on precision. To focus on the execution of your plans to meet your goals and serve those in need throughout your community. Virgo is all about creating order out of chaos, making it the perfect moment to set detailed intentions and plan your next steps. Virgo rules work, small projects, tasks, chores, and the details. This makes it a time we can focus on what we need to get done with extra productivity and efficiency. The Virgo New Moon provides an opportunity to make a list and go through everything that you didn’t have the time or energy for the month before. Then get them done and out of the way now as you prep for the long winter ahead.

This Virgo new moon, brings balance to your life with order, logic, and grounding. The Virgo new Moon forces you to become aware of the state of your health as Virgo is the ruler of all matters of health and wellness in the zodiac. This includes your mental, emotional and physical health, which may push you to make changes in your lifestyle and allow you to get the support you need to release old hurts. This new moon also brings with it a sense of balance with all of the hard work you have to put in for the fall harvest that is right around the corner, while also celebrating the joy and gratitude for the bounty the Earth has given you this season.

New Moon What Is It And Why We Honor It?

Every month, the New Moon carries us over the threshold of a new beginning. So, let’s talk about the new moon in general before we reorder the soils of our lives with new moon in Virgo.

So, who is Virgo?

This sign gets a lot of crap in the zodiac and many do not like to work with it and we often see people talking about how this is their most hated sign and energy to work with. For me this moon is one of my favorites every time it comes around. Maybe, it’s because I not only am a Virgo moon and rising, but I have Virgo in 9 of my houses so, when this moon comes around I personally am amplified. Or, maybe it’s because this energy is so dense and steeped in duality and movement. Which, I just simply can not wait to see what I can accomplish and get done while in it. But, let’s talk about who Virgo is to the Zodiac and the energy she represents.

Virgo is represented by the virgin or maiden archetype and is deeply connected to the element of earth and is a mutable sign. Virgo is an Earth sign so it’s practical, stable, and grounded but, it’s also related to Mercury. Which means it has an active mind and is related to communication as well. Virgo reminds us of the importance of maintaining a solid connection with the Earth and encourages us to connect with the divine order amidst the vast universal chaos. It reminds us the comfort the bounty of the earth has to offer all around us and the beauty order can create in nature.

The sign of Virgo, is rooted in the physical world which makes Virgo the sign of health and wellness, so right now we may focus on trying to work on health issues. This includes scheduling needed medical appointments, changing your eating habits, hydrating yourself, adding exercise, and adjusting your sleep schedule. Virgo’s ruling planet Mercury has dominion over the brain and the nervous system, which reminds us of the links between the mind and the functions of the body. This can be the perfect energy to use to help you eliminate a bad habit, or to quit something that is causing you harm.

Virgo can also be seen across many pantheons as a key representation to the seasons, duality, and a key part to the divine feminine energy we all are connected to. Virgo is represented by the maiden and virgin energy making her vital to the triple goddess representation of the divine feminine energy. She represents and connects us to the first pivotal transformation and shift we go thru in our lives moving from child to a maiden before the next phase into the mother energy of our lives. You see this energy and representation with goddesses like Persephone and her story of transformation to power thru duality.

Virgo the Maiden/Virgin

Unlike the majority of other zodiac signs, the symbol for Virgo is very unique since it is not an animal. Instead, the symbol is the beautiful maiden or the virgin and is depicted as a young woman carrying a sheaf of wheat, an image that can be interpreted as a fertility goddess or a harvest maiden. The maiden stands for beauty, purity, and tranquility. Virgo translates to “virgin” in Latin and the maiden is symbolic of this translation but, not in a literal sense. Her presence is considered a reflection of patience, integrity, and honor, all traits that the Virgo displays within the zodiac. The Virgo symbol of the Maiden also expresses the service-oriented qualities of this zodiac sign. As a grounded earth sign and an analytical mutable sign, Virgo is the purist of the zodiac, and also highly organized and clean.

The Virgo Constellation

Virgo is the largest constellation of the Zodiac and the second largest constellation in the sky located between the constellations Leo and Libra. It contains the bright star Spica, along with many exoplanets and deep-space objects. The constellation is also widely associated with the harvest. It marks the part of the sky where the Sun rises in autumn, when crops are harvested. In some Greek stories and myths, Virgo is Persephone, the daughter of the Greek goddess Demeter who ruled over the harvests. While in others, Virgo relates to Dike, the Greek goddess of justice. Virgo is therefore usually pictured as a young maiden standing or lying on her side and holding a sheaf of wheat. The star Spica represents the grain in her hand within the constellation.

Themes for the Virgo new moon

Every New Moon contains its own themes, which are related to the sign that it falls under. This time, we experience the New Moon in the practical, organized, productive, grounded, nurturing, compassionate, helpful, reflective, and detail orientated sign of the maiden/virgin; Virgo. The maiden is also the sign that represents our health, wellness, the mind, and the connection between our body and the mind. When you rearrange the soils of your soul, with not only the moon as your guide but the maiden as well. You are most likely to see themes focused on these topics as you sift through and analyze your emotions and thoughts. The Virgo New Moon is going to bring the spotlight on your health/ wellness, your inner thoughts and dialogue, your daily habits, as well as on the organization of your home and the tiny details that make up your life. Let’s explore some of the themes and energies of Virgo deeper below.

Virgo the Practical and analytical mind

Virgo is deeply connected to our practical and analytical side of our mind and it is heightened with it’s connection to mercury as well. With it being so analytical this energy can cause us to go deep into our minds and reflect. The Virgo new Moon highlights the invitation to notice in what areas of our lives we need more discernment, better boundaries, and a stronger connection with the Earth. Virgo likes to cut through the noise and get to the good stuff; constantly sorting out thoughts, feelings, and everything around. Virgo energy allows you to figure out what’s useful or useless, what’s true or not true, what’s right or wrong.

The Virgo new Moon offers us chances to see where better standards may be needed, where we may be ungrounded or excessively idealistic, and what needs to be differently structured or organized for the sake of better functionality or health. This lunation also invites us to refine our capacity to discern between the whispers of our intuition and the voice of our fears and insecurities. Take the time to really focus on differentiating between those voices especially in this energy and don’t allow the analytical energy of Virgo to turn into ruminating thoughts which it can very easily do. This new Moon in Virgo is a time to let go of self-doubt, perfectionism, and self-criticism as you step into your potential.

Virgo the sign of heightened productivity

The Virgo new Moon is often a time of heightened productivity. Virgo is the sign of work in the zodiac, and new moons rule beginnings; which makes this a time to really focus on the things you need to get done. Including the urge to create and start your to do lists. This is going to be overwhelming and you may become very hyper focused on them and take great joy in checking each task off the list as you finish it. We can take on and tackle all the tiny little projects, tasks, and chores at home or at a job, we have been putting off but, now must take care of and get done. This new moon is your chance to get organized, analyze your goals, and take action towards your dreams, without being overly critical of yourself.

Virgo is very detailed orientated, and thrives in order and cleanliness. So, when we are in this energy we can be focused and pay close attention to detail. By detail, I mean every tiny little detail. You may become aware of things in your life, your home, and relationships you never may have noticed before. Because, of this we can get hyper focused on tidying things up in our physical space by doing a fall cleaning, reorganizing our home, or purging and donating things.

With the extra attention to detail we can take a look at all areas of our life to see where it can use some more structure and order to lead to more efficient productivity. I know for me I end up redoing my bullet journal, my family binder, my schedule, my sons schedule, the list could go on. I end up endlessly planning and rearranging things but, in a very reflective way with purpose and drive for long term goals. Virgo reminds us that our time is finite and that we must treat it as a precious resource.

Virgo always being of service to others

Virgo is the sign of service to others and is overflowing with nurturing energy that simply wants to help anyone and everyone they see that needs it. Virgo is literally the healing energy of the cosmos and the energy that will help you with anything you need help with. Virgo takes deep happiness from helping others as well. You see this with many of your nurses, doctors, lawyers and social workers being from this sign. Virgo’s essence of being of service encourages you to align your actions with your heart’s desire, making this a powerful moment for intentional living for the greater good of the collective.

Since, Virgo loves to lend a helping hand, don’t be surprised if you are the first person to volunteer when a friend asks for a favor right now. But, don’t be mistaken; you won’t feel obligated in the least bit. Because Virgo loves to pitch in, you’ll not only want to come to someone’s aid, but you’ll also get extreme satisfaction from it.

This new moon makes it a great time to take a look around your community and see where you can serve those around you. What needs in community are not being met? How can you help those needs be met? How can you serve and nurture those around you? Where in your community can you volunteer your time to serve others? It’s a perfect lunation to start volunteering somewhere, plan a fundraiser, or host a community awareness event; especially focused on mental health with Virgo being the sign of the mind.

Virgo New Moon and Duality

Since, I am a grey witch every single energy I work with I look for the duality in that energy and how I can connect to it.

First, let’s talk about the sign Virgo.  I may be a bit biased on this sign to be honest since it is my birth sign, my ruling sign, and it dominates my entire chart ruling 9 of my houses. But, Virgo in my opinion is an energy that we miss the duality of often. Virgo is known for being very analytical, methodical, and detail oriented which creates an energy focused on change, goals, growth, problem solving, tiny details, and at times perfection. But, this sign is also one of the most compassionate, caring, and nurturing signs of the zodiac as well. Which also creates an energy that is very deep, loving, emotional, sensitive, and at times self sacrificing. The mix between these two energies weaves an energy and magic that pushes you to look at every tiny detail for perfection and ways to change things and those around you and for yourself. With the deep nurturing desire to push them and/or yourself to grow, heal, and be the best versions we are all capable of being for the greater good of the collective.

Second; the new moon itself is all about duality and illuminating the night sky in both light and shadows. The new moon is all about rebirth, renewal, and the beginning of a new cycle, which puts you in a transitional liminal space and energy. In order for you to be in a space to begin again, to transition, and be reborn you had to just come from and ending and death. If you want to know more about duality and being a grey witch you can watch my class with Divination Academy about it here.

What To Be Cautious Of This Virgo New Moon

So, let’s talk about the reasons why this sign tends to be so hated and what to look our for yourself with the Virgo energy. Since Virgo is so attached to your analytical side and so detail orientated it can come off as and be very critical at times of others. So, try and slow down and be clear with your communication with others during this time. Let them know you are coming from a place of caring, and simply wanting to help.

With it being detail orientated one thing this energy may do is cause your reflection and analysis to get very critical and harsh with yourself and cause some perfectionism to take over. So, remember to focus on the part of the Virgo energy that is nurturing and helping to others and extend it to yourself. And remember Virgo is the sign of health so physical self care can really build self compassion and help keep your critical thoughts at a productive level and not allow them to reach a harmful one.

Remember how Virgo brings heightened productivity and a push to get stuff done? That can sometimes go into overdrive with the Virgo energy. It can become so strong you simply want to go, go, and go. You may feel the need to get so much done you push yourself to burn out. DON”T LET THAT HAPPEN! During this time remember that the only way you can continue to be productive is by taking those breaks now and than when you need them. So take them! Set yourself some reminders in your phone even if you have to. Nothing, feels worse than doing a massive amount of work to watch it all backslide because you burn yourself out and can’t follow through.

Shadow work questions for the Virgo new moon

Like, we have talked about many times in this blogpost this Virgo new moon you will feel the comforting pull of Virgo to be introspective, and really go deep into yourself. While you do this, consider what provides a sense of stability and what brings stress or chaos. This can help you make better decisions about where to put your energy. If you want to follow that grounding, introspective pull to self awareness from Virgo right now, shadow work is a great way to do this. Whether you do it thru meditation, actual shadow work, or just journaling while in reflection; below is a list of prompts and topics to connect with the energy of the Virgo new moon.

  • What are the areas in my life that need the most attention and improvement right now?
  • How do I envision my ideal day, and what steps can I take to make that vision a reality?
  • What habits do I want to cultivate to support my physical and emotional well-being?
  • What past experiences or patterns do I need to release to move forward with clarity?
  • What are the key values and principles that guide my decisions and actions?
  • How can I be of service to others while also honoring my own needs and boundaries?
  • What areas of my life need the most organization and structure?
  • Reflect on aspects of your life that feel chaotic or disorganized. How can you bring more order to these areas?

  • How can I be of service to myself and others during this lunar cycle?
  • Think about ways you can nurture yourself and contribute to the well-being of others. What acts of kindness or service resonate with you?

  • How can I create a balanced approach to my work and personal life?
  • Reflect on your current work-life balance. What changes can you make to ensure you’re giving enough time to both areas?

Leaf Intention Setting Ritual

One of my favorite things to do when the air gets a little crisper, and the leaves begin to change color and fall; is to use the fall leaves for intention setting rituals! It’s a simple and fun thing to do and the prep gets you out into the beauty of nature which allows you the ability to connect to the element of earth; the ruler of Virgo.

For your prep work grab something to write with. I find that sharpies tend to work best for actually sticking to the leaves. If you don’t have any, you can also use small strips of paper you can mix into a handful of leaves. Next, take the time to head outside and go on a mindful nature walk while you look for and find as many leaves as you have intentions to set.

Once, you have them simply find a peaceful spot where ever you are in nature that is calling to you. Than take the time to take deep, mindful breaths in and out taking in all the sounds, smells, and sensations of the Earth all around you. Consider what provides a sense of stability to your life and what brings stress or chaos. This can help you make better decisions about where to put your energy and what intentions you are about to set. Envision the intentions now that you are going to set this lunar cycle. Focus on each tiny detail of your intentions. Focus on the plans and how you will achieve them and how productive they make you feel. When you feel set on your intentions write them on your leaves or little strips of paper while holding the vision of each detail in your minds eye. Finally, on your next exhale release your intentions to the winds of fall and the detail orientated and productive Virgo new moon.

Wrap up

However you choose to connect to this new moon and work with its energy be prepared to experience the reflective, productive, detail orientated, and grounding energy of the maiden. During this Virgo New Moon, remember it’s the perfect time to focus on organizing your life and setting detailed intentions. Virgo energy is all about precision and practicality, making it ideal for refining your daily routines and caring for your physical body. As you align with this lunar cycle, you’ll find that the structured approach of Virgo helps you create a solid foundation for your goals to achieve your wildest dreams. Remember this new moon calls for you to look at your own life to see where you need to focus on the attention to detail towards yourself and how you need to rearrange things for healthy productivity.
