Blossom with balance under the pink full moon in Libra

This month’s full moon graces the skies on April 12th bringing balance and harmony with the scales of Libra as the pink moon blossoms. The energy behind this Pink Full Moon is one of Action, taking advantage of opportunities, bringing dreams into fruition, and balancing our relationships. As the pink moon blooms we will feel more forward momentum and a greater sense of clarity when it comes to our path ahead in life. In the days and weeks following this Full Moon, we may feel that we have finally shed an old cycle as dead petals fall to the ground and new ones open and bloom. Bringing us into a compassionate place of balance with ourselves and in each of our relationships in life. Come join me in this blog post as our petals open and blossom with balance under the pink full moon in Libra.

First, What is the Full Moon

Over the centuries, the Moon has played a significant role in different cultures and traditions. The full moon simply put is when the moon is completely illuminated in the sky and it has reached it’s peak in this lunar cycle in the sky. When the moon is completely illuminated it’s time for all to reach full expression. The full moon is the most powerful and potent time of the entire lunar cycle.

A full moon occurs when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon are in the exact opposite positions in the Zodiac (called an opposition). The full moon greatly affects humans and it’s no wonder it does because, there’s a scientific reason for this – we are made up of 60% or more of water. Full Moons are the peak point of the lunar cycle: at this time of the month, the light of the Sun is fully illuminating the Moon, and the luminaries are exactly opposing one another from our perspective on Earth. This potent alignment offers us opportunities to gain more awareness about what is moving in our inner and emotional world, and information previously uncertain or hidden could be revealed at this time.

With the moon being fully illuminated it creates this portal to some of the most potent energy to connect to for us to manifest our desires and dream life. This portal creates a connection to our peak creative energy and the deep seated creative passions we all have within us. This creative energy and power is the energy we need to actually do and create the things and lifestyle we need to manifest what we desire. With the new moon phase being about planting the seeds of what you want to manifest, the full moon is about actually doing the work and moving the energy to make your manifesting happen. The full moon allows you to bridge the connection between these energies and themes and bring them into your life while reminding you how important it is to have them in your life not only when the moon is illuminated in the sky for you to see.

There are so many ways to work with the full moon, to learn more about the basics of working with the full moon energy check out my blog post here and you can watch my class all about lunar magic. But, remember each full moon will be slightly different and have different practices to add and different ways to do it based on which zodiac sign the full moon is currently in at the time.

The Pink Moon

As the sun brightens up our lives with longer days beckoning the plants to grow and flowers to bloom once again. The night time skies shimmer with the ethereal and refreshing energy of the full moon known as the Pink moon. The Pink Moon is a name given to the April full moon, originating from the pink flowers, known as wild creeping phlox, that typically bloom during this time of year in North America. However, despite the name, the Moon itself doesn’t actually appear pink but instead takes on its usual golden or white hue. The energy of this pink moon is palpable with its anticipation for new opportunities, new beginnings, and fresh intentions. Just as the pink flowers of spring are blooming after a long winter, this full moon encourages us to shed the old and embrace the new.

Even though the Worm moon last month in March was the first full moon of spring; this pink moon is the one that really tells us spring has sprung! The pink moon is a reminder of the cyclical nature of life, encouraging us to embrace transformation, nurture growth, and find beauty in the always changing world around us. Use the Pink Moon as a time to pause, reflect, recalibrate, and make sure you’re moving in the right direction. Under the shimmering glow of this pink moon you will feel a pull to truth-seeking, boundary-setting, and energetic maintenance.

As with most pagan names there will be different ones for each culture so below I listed any of the other names for the Pink moon I could find across the Earth. The common themes for these moons are; the end of Winter, the beginning of Spring, new beginnings, renewal, and the movement of nature.

So, who is Libra?

As the seventh sign in the zodiac, Libra is ruled by Venus, the planet of love, beauty, and relationships. The air element, associated with intellect and communication, governs Libra, adding a layer of social intelligence and charm to this sign and how they interact with the rest of the zodiac. Libra is known for its need for balance and harmony, its social grace, its ability to foster cooperation and compromise, and its keen eye for beauty and aesthetics.

Libra, the scales of balance

Libra is unique in the zodiac for it is the only one represented by an inanimate object; the scales. All other signs are represented by a human or an animal. The symbol of the scales represents the necessity of balance in every area of life. They are a reflection of what we are truly working to achieve: a balance between light and dark with the right amounts of each. Not only in our live but, also in the energy balance of the multiverse as a whole. When the Moon is in the accommodating sign of Libra, you will feel much more focused on creating balance and harmony all around you. You will be forced to set things on the cosmic scale of the multiverse and see their true nature and weight. Libra doesn’t just appreciate balance and what the scales has to say. Libra also seeks out the imbalance, and welcomes it with open arms so they can fix it. They view it as their cosmic responsibility to set everything on the scales around them to maintain cosmic balance and harmony.

The Libra Constellation

Libras constellation lies in the southern sky. The association of this region of the sky with scales was seen in both babylon and Rome. It is said that the Moon was in Libra when Rome was founded even. Which made Libra very sacred to the people of the city. The Romans considered Libra to be associated with balanced seasons and equal length of night and day. Most likely due to the fact that when this constellation is the most visible is right after the autumn equinox. The Romans believed the scales were held by the goddesses Astraea or Lustitia, the goddess of truth and justice, up in the night sky. Unlike the romans the ancient Greeks, did not hold Libra in such high esteem. For they thought Libra was just the outstretched claws of the constellation Scorpius the Scorpion without its own myth for it being placed amongst the stars.

Libra the sign of Fairness and Justice

Libra is an intellectual sign concerned with fairness, equality, and justice. Libra wants everyone in the world to be treated fairly, with dignity and respect, and to have equal rights and protections. No one is above anyone else on this planet for we all are one and from the same source, and Libras scales force you to remember that. Libra feels deep pain when looking down from the stars, to see all of the fighting and destruction in the world. They seek harmony and honesty, using their innate empathy as a driving force to seek justice for others. Libra craves for everyone to just get along living alongside each other in peach and harmony. They are willing to do anything and to make any compromise to get it, even at the cost of themselves at times.

Libra the sign of connection and relationships

Libra is ruled by Venus, the planet of love, beauty, and pleasure. During this full Moon, the energies of Libra will be magnified, inviting us to focus on creating balance in our relationships, and remembering the importance of the dance of give and take to maintain it. Libra’s essence is about fostering meaningful connections and harmony with all those around us. Libra does this by finding ways to unite opposites and achieve compromise through active and loving relationships. It’s also a time to envision healthy, supportive relationships that can honor our soul’s path while we honor others’ paths. It can be challenging to form partnerships where both people’s individual life paths are honored. We need partners who can walk with us while walking their own paths.

Chiron the wounded healer is active

Chiron, the asteroid named after the wounded healer, is active under this Full Moon adding a layer of potent healing to the transformative energy of the pink moon. By forcing us to tend to and weed out the wounds that hurt us the most to allow us to fully bloom. This is because, Chiron represents the forever wounds that become a part of our being. They are the wounds that cut us to our core, the ones we think about when we are alone at night, and the ones that never truly leave us. Chiron is one of my favorite energies to work with and I feel he is overlooked so much when he is active. So, who is he? He is the most famous centaur, from later Greek Mythology, and he was known to be a wise man and a healer. In Greek Mythology, it was Chiron who taught humanity the constellations. That’s huge! Chiron is our celestial teacher. On top of that, many well known Greek gods and goddesses looked to him for spiritual advice, most will know him nowadays through the hero Hercules. Chiron wasn’t necessarily on a self-healing journey, but by being of service to others and sharing his story as a teacher, he too, experienced healing and became known as the wisest healer and teacher of them all. But remember, Chiron’s energy is not about “fixing” your wounds, rather it’s about radically accepting them. It’s about knowing that our wounds are part of this earthly experience and don’t prevent us from being able to lead a beautiful and fulfilling life . One that is full of purpose instead of suffering. Chiron wants us to acknowledge our wounds as a part of the fabric of our destiny, and something that can make us stronger, wiser, and more compassionate. When Chiron is active some of the most profound healing can happen.  To learn more about him check out my guide HERE!

Venus the planet of love goes direct

Venus, the Goddess of Love and Beauty, is also adding a third layer of healing under this Full Moon as she prepares to emerge from the underworld. After being retrograde since March 1st forcing us into the shadows of our hearts and the wounds of our relationships. She will be pulling on our hearts to act on those insights she has shown us. By forcing us this past month to question our relationships or dynamics and patterns playing out within them. Those cycles we noticed with our loved ones we are wanting to break? Now is the time to be able to do just that with Venus’s compassionate embrace. Be willing to release or let something go that no longer aligns with this new rebirth of the heart that Venus has been instigating for us. Then watch as your relationships bloom with a deepened love under Venus and the pink full moon.

What to be cautious of during a Libra full moon

Libra is one of the most beloved signs in the zodiac, I think mainly due to its loving, and compassionate nature. That is really truly willing to do anything for you to keep the peace, including avoiding at all cost confrontation and conflict. While this energy will have a loving and reviving energy to our relationships, connections, and the bonds we hold most dear. We do have a few things to be cautious of and keep in mind with this Libra new moon and its energy. Libra’s deep desire to maintain the peace and harmony around us may allow us to let others run us over, take advantage of us, and we may just sit and duck our heads. Instead of speaking up for ourselves, you may choose to just keep the peace instead. Be cautious with this because, peace in the community is not worth the cost of your inner peace. To gain true balance and equilibrium in the multiverse your happiness matters just like the rest. Let’s not forget as an air sign as well Libra has a gift with their tongue and is able to make you feel quite charming. So, if you do speak up keep that in mind with the words you choose and whom you speak them too. Don’t unwilling use you golden tongue right now to lure others to you whom shouldn’t be.

Libra full moon and duality

Since, I am a grey witch every single energy I work with I look for the duality in that energy and how I can connect to it. First let’s talk about the duality of the full moon. The full moon itself is all about duality as it is another time of transformation, transition, and rebirth. During this time we are pushed into a liminal space that forces us to look at the things, people, and places that have been obstacles or holding us back. This can be a thing of beauty and hope as well as a thing of pain and darkness which forces us into duality. Second,  let’s talk about the duality of Libra. With Libra I feel the duality is pretty obvious since this energy is all about balance and equilibrium. Which means equal parts of two different things. When Libra sets things on the scales they are acknowledging the importance of both existing but, that finding balance between both is key. Libra reminds us that embracing duality and balance is the key; for everything is all connected.

Intention and release bay leaf ritual to balance the scales

The ritual I am bringing to you for this Libra full moon will allow you to not only release patterns and relationships that no longer serve you. But, will allow you to balance the scales and create equilibrium in your release work. By not only using the energy of the full moon to let go of the hurts from the past that are keeping you stuck. But, to also attract your manifestations on the other side of the scale weighing it down. You see to create true equilibrium and balance in your life you can’t just release the things holding you back in the past. You must also set new intentions for the future. Try this spell below to even the scales of your life underneath the light of Libra full moon tonight.

What you will need:

  • 6 bay leaves
  • a pen or marker
  • 3 small bowls
  • a white candle
  • a black candle

How to cast this spell:

First, take your time to do whatever it is you need to get into a magical state to be able to create a sacred container. If this means you meditate, light incense, lower the lights, whatever it is you need, do it now. Next make sure to take your 3 bowls and place them in a line of three in front of you with a white candle in the one on the right and a black candle in the one on the left. Once, you feel your physical environment is set up, I want you to get into sacred container by taking some deep breaths and envisioning the new moon above you. Sending grey, silvery light full of balance, equilibrium, and duality from the scales of Libra down on you tonight. Now in your right hand place 3 bay leaves, envisioning white light of intention and planting seeds. Allow that light to guide your heart and show you what it is you need to start. Whether it be new habits, relationships, or finding new ways to do your part. Follow that light to see what it is you need to truly live a life of balance, fairness, and harmony. Once you feel those intentions anchored in your heart take your pen or marker and write each of the three on separate bay leaves. Than place in the bowl on the right, and light your white candle connecting those intentions to the white energy of intention and the full moon above. Next, take a deep breath and in your left hand place 3 bay leaves, envisioning black light of letting go and releasing. Allow that light to guide your heart and show you what it is that is blocking you. From truly being able to reach a state of balance, fairness, and equality. Is there an addiction, a trauma, or relationship no longer creating growth but holding you back? What is sitting there in the shadows of you heart tipping your scales to far into the dark? Once you feel you know what that blockage is for you to release and you feel ready to let it go. Take your pen or marker and write each of the three blockages on separate bay leaves. Than place them in the bowl on the left, and light the black candle, connecting you with the black energy of our shadow and releasing. Next, take the deepest of breaths pick up the bay leaves on the right and as you light them in the candle flame repeat of white, ” I light these leaves to represent the light of my intentions set this night.” Next, take another deep breath and pick up the bay leaves on the left and as you light them in the black candle flame repeat, “I light these bay leave to represent the darkness and past in my life I choose to release”. Lastly, take the ashes from the bowl on both left and the right and pour them into the center bowl as you say. “”As the scales of Libra find balance tonight, so too shall my life be in perfect equilibrium and invoke peace and harmony for myself and all those around me.” Take this bowl of balance created with your intentions planted, and your blockages released and leave it in the center of your altar until the new moon shines its silvery rays again over your life.

The Magic Of April; Nourish Your Seeds To Blossom

The birds are chirping, spring showers are falling, animals are out of hibernation and nature is fully awake from the long cold nights of winter. April is the month when spring fully takes hold in the Northern Hemisphere by the time the month ends. During this month humans celebrate the return of life to the earth. Welcoming the blossoming of plants and flowers after the return of Spring at the end of March. This month is a very nourishing month that is about really feeding and giving those seeds of intention you planted in March the nutrients they need to bloom and flourish for harvest in the fall. April is also a time for cleansing and purifying rituals to rid oneself of stagnant energy from the winter months and prepare for the growth and expansion ahead. This month we are surrounded by balance as winter still tries to hold on with a few more snowfalls until the days get long enough and warm enough for the flakes to become droplets of rain. History In The Month Of April

April is the fourth month of the year according to the modern Gregorian calendar. Prior to that April was the second month of the earliest Roman calendar, before Ianuarius and Februarius were added by King Numa Pompilius about 700 BC. It became the fourth month of the calendar year (the year when twelve months are displayed in order) during the time of the decemvirs about 450 BC. The name April comes from the Roman name Aprilis possibly derived from the Latin verb aperire, meaning to open because this is the month when flowers and foliage begin to blossom and open. Other theories suggest that the name was derived from the name Aphrodite, via the Etruscan equivalent Apru.

Every Single month has sacred and important days and celebrations to help you connect to the energies of the month. Plus they usually are a lot of fun to take part in! Below you will find a list of the sacred days and celebrations for the month of April! The common themes you will find are fertility, new beginnings, spring, renewal, and hope. Also take note how this month has a lot of really important holidays taking place all around the rebirth of the sun that we celebrated at the end of last month. Plus all the ideas of hope, joy , and celebration of surviving the long harsh, cold winter together. But, first we are going to talk about one that take centerstage during this month Veneralia.

Veneralia

The month of April was sacred to Venus and kicked off with her festival; Veneralia.

Veneralia, was an ancient Roman festival, that celebrated the goddess Venus (Aphrodite), highlighting her significance in love, beauty, and fertility on April 1st. During Veneralia, people would adorn themselves with flower crowns and fragrant herbs, and take ritual baths with honey and milk, believing it would attract Venus’s favor and blessings. During the festival, women carried the Venus’s statue to the men’s baths where it was ceremonially washed and dressed. A prominent ritual component of Veneralia involved the offering of roses to Venus, symbolizing love and desire, with couples exchanging love tokens as a form of devotion. Veneralia was a time for romantic endeavors, and it was believed that any relationship initiated during the festival would be blessed by Venus herself. April Magical & Witchcraft Themes

In witchcraft, April represents a time of fertility, growth, and abundance. Rituals and spells during April often focus on themes of renewal, prosperity, and manifestation. While harnessing the energy of the season to bring about positive changes and new opportunities. With April being the month when spring settles in and is the bringer of new life. It is the ideal time for us to literally plant seeds in the ground for us to harvest in the fall. To feed our families through the next long harsh winter. This makes it a month not only about the fertility and potential waiting in the ground but, also a month that allows us to look forward to the year ahead with a light of hope. April is a month to welcome in joy, hope, and endless possibilities with the Sun’s days growing longer in the sky. Just as the April showers pour down from the skies to cleanse and nourish the earth and cause new growth; April is also a time for cleansing and purifying rituals. To rid oneself of stagnant energy from the winter months and prepare for the growth and expansion ahead.

Another key theme during this month with spring setting in during April; is renewal, rebirth, and transition. These themes make it a very key time to be willing to go deep within yourself to connect to your true creative force. To figure out how to awaken that force within you that makes the courageous moves towards making your goals and dreams come true by putting in the work. Now that the earth is unthawing from the Winter. It is a month to maintain balance, and to work with your duality and shadow. When doing this you allow yourself to be open to the massive amount of transformational, transitional, and renewing energy this month has to offer.

Lastly, April is a time of nourishment to feed your seeds of intentions and manifestations that you planted the previous month during the spring equinox to help them grow and to nourish ourselves throughout the Spring. This month is ripe with the energy of fertility, new beginnings, and possibilities. This energy of new beginnings also comes with a sense of cleanliness, the need to purify. Channel into this energy when setting intentions, doing manifestation work, and your magical workings this month and watch them bloom like never before.

The Gods And Goddesses Of April

With every season and month like April there are certain themes, magic, and energies we have the ability to connect to including deities. Everyone works with and views deity energy a little differently. Whether you view them as archetypes of the human consciousness, representations of the source energy, or as being entities on their own, there are certain deities that now is the time to connect to and honor them in the most sacred and amplified way.( Don’t forget to grab my eBook in the shop to help you explore this)

During this month a few deities take center stage because they have festivals or sacred days during this month to help you connect with them in a very intimate way like Aphrodite/Venus. The deities that are going to be the best for you to connect to right now are going to be those who represent spring , the changing of the seasons, and the sun, fertility, abundance, agriculture, love and rebirth; like Persephone and Demeter. Especially since this is the time of the year those two are together on Earth. Deities that can connect you to fertility, fruitfulness, and growth are also great to call to this time as well. Below we will talk about some of the deities you can work with this month.

Venus

Venus was the Roman goddess of love and beauty, and sexuality. The goddess of love Venus was widely worshipped in the Roman Empire because she was thought to be the mother of Aeneas, the mythical founder of Rome. As such, she was considered the mother of the entire Roman nation. The month of April was kicked off with a festival dedicated to her even; Veneralia.

Initially, it seems that she was a goddess of fertility and vegetation. She might have assumed her most famous role of goddess of love in the 3rd Century BC when she was identified with the Greek goddess Aphrodite. Being the embodiment of femininity, she was seen as the opposite of the gods which represented masculinity, i.e. her husband Vulcan, the god of metalworking, and her lover Mars, the god of war.

Hathor

Of the many different gods and goddesses that were worshipped in ancient Egypt, Hathor is considered one of the most important. Hathor is the Egyptian goddess of love and beauty and her history is quite intriguing among the many that are around in the Egyptian pantheon. The Egyptian goddess of beauty and love is the daughter of the sky goddess Nut and the god of the sun and creation, Ra. Hathor is not only the daughter of Egypt’s main deities for she is also the ‘eye of Ra,’ the most powerful force in the world. This makes her one of the most significant deities in Egyptian mythology. The Egyptian goddess of love and beauty is also the goddess of the underworld. She welcomes the dead as they reach the underworld and serves them food and drinks. She is thought to be later connected with the Greek goddess Aphrodite this is why she is a great deity to work with this month to help you with self love, nourishment, and fertility workings.

Anahita

Anahita, the ancient Persian goddess, held a significant role in Persian mythology, associated with water, fertility, healing, and wisdom. With her origins rooted in the Indo-Iranian tradition and connections to the Mesopotamian goddess, Inanna-Ishtar, Anahita’s worship persisted across Iran, Asia, and even endured the influence of Zoroastrianism. She is often depicted as a beautiful goddess adorned in gold jewelry, carrying branches of life, and riding a chariot pulled by four horses. She was worshipped as the goddess of water, fertility, healing, and wisdom. As the goddess of water, Anahita represented the life-giving force that sustained both humans and nature. She played a crucial role in ensuring the fertility of the land, resulting in abundant harvests and prosperous communities which makes her a great goddess to call on this month while your nourish your seeds your already planted last month or plan to plant this month.

Ceres

The harvest goddess Ceres is probably one of the oldest gods to be worshiped by the Romans and their precursors. Her worship was such that she was integral to the day-to-day affairs of the ancient Romans. Whereas other gods were prayed to for specific things or worshiped on specific days, the Roman goddess Ceres was relevant throughout the year. Ceres was the goddess of agriculture, farming, and a host of other things which are related to or symbolized by crops. She was the goddess that directly ensured that the people had something to eat. Without the Roman goddess Ceres good graces, winter and famine were upon the Romans. Her counterpart is thought to be the Greek goddess Demeter which is why she can be worshipped to connect to this months energy as well.

Persephone

Lastly,  the goddess who has held my heart for many years. The one I rejoice during this month as I get quality time with her again as she returns from being with her beloved Hades; Persephone. In Greek mythology, Persephone is the goddess of agriculture, the spring, the Underworld, duality, and the wife of Hades. Prior to her marriage with Hades she was known as Kore, which means “daughter” or “maiden”. I find this to be crucial to her story and representation of rebirth, because, before she grabbed power in her marriage to Hades, the gods hadn’t even given her a name or her own place of power. Which makes no sense to me because she was born from two of the most powerful deities. Persephone is the daughter of Zeus, the chief god, and Demeter, the goddess of agriculture. For her to have such little power, be sheltered, and not have her own place of power within the pantheon was in injustice she would rectify through the power of rebirth and duality by becoming Hades wife. As the wife of Hades, Persephone governs the realm of the dead by his side with grace, compassion, and might. Persephone’s presence in the Underworld brings a sense of balance between life and death. While Samhain marks Persephone’s descent into the underworld when she ascends to her throne as the queen of the underworld. Spring marks her journey and ascent, some say guided by the torch light of Hecate back to Earth. To spend her agreed upon quality time with her mother. With her return we also see the return of lush green grasses, plentiful fields of grains, and sweet smelling flowers decorating the landscape as they bloom. Persephone’s return is associated with the fertility of the earth and the abundance of the harvest, signifying a time of growth, vitality, and the fulfillment of potential. Her story that continues this month reminds us of the need for balance between life and death, darkness and light, and the constant cycle of change that occurs in nature and in our own lives. Allowing us to move forward from the darkness and introspection into a place blooming with growth and the life of new beginnings. She encourages us to embrace change and new beginnings to fully claim the power that was always rightfully ours. To learn all about this alluring, intriguing, and transitional goddess, and see her story in a whole new light. Plus meet her in a guided meditation you can watch my class all about her here! Plus I promise you will be getting a guide to work with her soon!

Duality and the month of April

Since, I am a grey witch I look for the duality in every single energy I work with including sacred times like a month of the year like the one we are currently in; April. This month is a really easy one for me to connect to the duality of it. Especially when I am reminded of one of my favorite quotes about April from a poem by T.S Elliot. “April is the cruelest month, breeding lilacs out of the dead land, mixing memory and desire, stirring dull roots with spring rain.” This quote always reminds me of what I feel whenever I am out hiking during April. April is month that is both full of death and new life. It is a month that forces us fully out of the comfort of winter’s dark embrace. No longer allowing us to find safety within our homes with our families. Or giving us the grace to rest, isolate, and break down. During April we must leave our homes and start putting in the endless hours of hard work the growing season calls for. April confronts us with the things we have been putting off all Winter so that we can be reborn. April ‘s duality arrives with promises of spring, sun, beauty, and growth alongside the release of death, pain, memories, and Winter. April embodies a duality of new beginnings and potential endings, marked by spring’s rebirth alongside the possibility of surprises, challenges, and changes.

Ostara And Celebrating The Spring Equinox

The birds are beginning to sing us awake in the mornings, the snow is melting in some parts of the world, and the days are getting longer with more sunshine for us to enjoy. With this time comes one of the two most potent and important sacred times of the year and holidays; the Spring Equinox which is celebrated with many different holidays and traditions like Ostara. This time is ripe with fertile energy all about growth, rebirth, planting seeds for harvest in the fall, and duality. Let’s take a look in this blogpost at the history of this time of year, the many energies you can connect with, the themes, and so so much about the Spring Equinox and Ostara.

What Is The Spring Equinox?

The Spring Equinox aka Vernal Equinox, is the time when day and night are equal. During this time, the direct rays of the sun hit the equator, making day and night equal in length. The most important part of the day is when the sun hits its zenith, the precise moment when the sun is perfectly lined up with the equator. This moment marks the first day of spring, with the light triumphing over the darkness. The Spring begins in March in the northern hemisphere, and September in the southern hemisphere. In the Northern Hemisphere we celebrate on March 20th this year (the celebration can happen between the 19th – the 23rd and is typically celebrated for multiple days).

What Is Ostara?

Ostara is the celebration of rebirth and renewal, it is the Sabbat (a holiday marked on the pagan wheel of the year) dedicated to the Spring Equinox aka Vernal Equinox. Ostara is one of the eight Sabbats in the Wheel of the Year calendar. The Wheel of the Year is a cycle of festivals that celebrates the changing seasons and the natural cycles of life. Each festival represents a unique phase in the cycle of life and is associated with different aspects of nature. In the Wheel of the Year calendar, Ostara follows the dark and introspective period of Imbolc, which celebrates the return of the light and the preparation for the coming of spring. It precedes Beltane, which marks the midpoint of spring and celebrates the fertility of the earth and the coming of summer.

Ostara, is the dawn of the fertile season on the Wheel of the Year. Many believe the word Ostara comes from the Anglo-Saxon goddess name, Eostre. Eostre represented spring and new beginnings. It marks the start of the astrological year as well and is considered the New year for many different cultures and tribes around the world as they welcome back the sun. Like the Celtics who only believed in two seasons instead of four we have now.

The Meaning Behind Ostara

This season is all about growth, fertility, and manifesting. While also being a time to go into the liminal space to bring balance, renewal, and rebirth. The energy of this season calls you to begin taking concerted actions towards your desires. Ostara is also considered a solar holiday honoring the spring’s warmth, light from the sun, and the awakening of the earth. Ostara embodies the cyclical rhythm of nature’s rebirth. This holiday is all about the earth returning to its abundant greenness and the sun is returning to the high skies. This is a time of rebirth and renewal when the natural world awakens from its winter slumber. It is a time when we can celebrate the return of the light, the growth of new life, and the renewal of hope. It is also a time when we can connect with the natural world, celebrate the changing seasons, and embrace the ongoing cycles of life.

A Time Of Balance And Duality

Ostara and the spring equinox is one of the most liminal times during the year. It is one of the two times the veil is the thinnest and our access is stronger to the other side. With this time being grounded in the liminal space, the crossroads, and the other side it is one of the most potent times to do shadow work, inner child work, realigning yourself in balance, and doing deep expansive evolution. This is a great time to reach out to deities of wisdom, the crossroads and magical knowledge for a vast amount of growth and change. Having access to this liminal space allows you to access the shadow part of yourself and really truly work with all parts of yourself to truly create duality and balance within yourself. It allows you to access those universal energies and look at the universe, your place in it and others actions from a place of true balance and seeing things from all perspectives. This time is honestly one of my favorite times of the year. I go through some of my biggest growth spurts in knowledge, personal development, and expansion during this time every single year. It’s like my soul reawakens itself, catches on fire, and transforms itself through rebirth.

A Time To Plant Seeds

With Ostara and the Spring Equinox being the time of rebirth, the return of the sun, and the earth reawakening from it’s cold winter slumber it is one of the most potent times to plant your seeds of manifestation. This time is so fertile with the energy of abundance, growth, and renewal when you set intentions right now they are amplified with all that energy. Even in antiquity this was a time of planning and planting. The time when they would go out and start working the land and planting their seeds for their crops to grow and harvest in the fall. Take this time to really focus on your dreams, your goals, and your desires. Set yourself onto a clear path, with a clear image, and plant those seeds of manifestation now in the fertile energy of abundance, and growth to grow and be ready to harvest in the fall.

The History Of Ostara

Ostara began as the celebration of Ostera the Germanic goddess of Spring, who’s name evolved to Eostre by the Ango-Saxons than later this evolved into Easter, which kept the theme of rebirth and renewal with the resurrection of Christ.

Ostara is named after the Germanic goddess Ostara or Eostre, who was associated with the dawn and new beginnings. It was celebrated by pre-Christian Germanic tribes, such as the Saxons, who lived in what is now modern-day Germany.

The holiday was also celebrated by the Anglo-Saxons in England, who called it Eostre or Eosturmonath. There is no evidence that the ancient Greeks or Romans celebrated Ostara, although they did celebrate their own spring festivals, such as the Roman festival of Floralia and the Greek festival of Anthesteria.

Deities Of Ostara And Spring

Spring is one of the most important seasons in many cultures and religions, as it is a time of renewal, growth, and fertility. In many mythologies, gods and goddesses of spring play a vital role in the seasonal cycle, symbolizing the rebirth of nature and the beginning of new life. Working with deities is one of my favorite things to do. You can honor them during their festivals for them and by bringing them into any of your prayers, rituals, and spells you want to doin order to celebrate and connect to this holiday and sacred days. Let’s take a look at some of the Deities that can be worshipped during this time and holiday.

Estore

The most important goddess of spring is Eostre, the goddess of fertility, rebirth, and dawn. Sometimes referred to as the goddess Ostara, this deity was associated with springtime because this was the season when the days began to lengthen and the sun became stronger. She was also associated with the hare and the egg, which were symbols of fertility and new life.

Flora

One of the most prominent Roman deities of spring was Flora, the goddess of flowers and the blooming of plants. Her festival, the Floralia, was celebrated from April 28th to May 3rd and featured theatrical performances, dancing, and other forms of revelry. The festival was a time to celebrate the natural world’s beauty and ask for Flora’s blessings in the coming growing season.

Mars

Another important deity of spring was Mars, the Roman god of war and agriculture. Although he was primarily associated with warfare, Mars was also seen as a protector of crops and the agricultural cycle. His festival, the Mars Ultor, commemorates bounty in agricultural endeavors and a successful growing season.

Freyr

Freyr is an important god of spring in Norse mythology. He was referred to as the god of fertility, prosperity, and peace. Freyr was associated with springtime because this was the season when the crops began to grow, and the animals began to mate. He was also associated with the renewal of life and the regeneration of the earth, which made him an important figure in springtime celebrations.

Osiris

Osiris is an Egyptian god referred to as the god of fertility, agriculture, and the afterlife. He was associated with springtime because this was the season when the Nile River flooded, bringing water and nutrients to the crops. He was also associated with the cycle of life, death, and rebirth, which made him an important figure in springtime celebrations. His death and resurrection were celebrated during the Osiris festivals, which marked the beginning of the agricultural year.

Cai Shen

One of the most prominent Chinese spring gods is Cai Shen, the god of wealth and prosperity. He is often depicted wearing a red robe and holding a gold ingot, and he is believed to bring good fortune and abundance to those who honor him. During the Chinese spring festivals, many people will place images or statues of Cai Shen in their homes or businesses to invite his blessings for the coming year.

Persephone

Persephone is the most prominent goddess of spring in the greek religion. She is the daughter of Zeus and goddess of harvest and agriculture Demeter. She is known as the goddess of spring, duality, rebirth, and the Queen of the Underworld. She is associated with spring, renewal, and rebirth because of her descent into the underworld with Hades and the affects. Her mother than decided to not allow anything to grow on earth until it was agreed she would return for part of the year. Her ascent back to earth from the underworld was when her mother allowed things to than flourish and grow again on earth. Because of this, she become the representation of the cycles of the earth and the reason for spring, the vernal birds returning, and the flowers blooming and to this day she still honors this cycle and deal. Persephone is my favorite deity, my patron goddess and I love connecting to her at this time of the year. If you want to learn more about her you can watch my class done previously on her with Divination Academy below.

Eggs and Ostara

There are a couple of stories that link Ostara to eggs and hares. One being that a hare out foraging for food found an egg and gave it to Ostara an offering for Spring. The other story speaks of Ostara finding a bird with frozen wings that she turned into a hare to save. The hare retaining its ability to lay eggs, laid an egg for Ostara as a show of gratitude. You can find variations of stories passed down similar to these or possibly have some in your lineage. No matter how the connection of eggs came to be associated with Ostara and this season, their connection to fertility, life, and rebirth is found worldwide and throughout history. If you want to learn more about the history, symbolism, and how to magically work with eggs you can read all about it in my previous blogpost here.

Bunnies And Ostara

Just like so many other historical Holiday icons and traditions, the Easter Bunny was born from Pagan customs. Bunnies are cute, and fluffy. But they’re also known for mating. And LOTS of it. It should come as no surprise the Rabbit is one of Ostara’s original symbols of fertility. In addition, there’s speculation the goddess Eostre once had a consort who was part-rabbit who was depicted as a man-sized hare.

Ways To Work With The Spring Equinox & Celebrate Ostara

We have talked about many different themes, and energies you can connect to during this time from fertility, balance, duality, rebirth, and more. Let’s talk about how we can connect to and celebrate those themes and energies now. First, you can participate and honor any of the deities listed above or that are associated with Spring. You can work with any affirmations, mantras, and visualization work for intention setting and manifestation for the year during this time. Check out below more ways to work with and celebrate this holiday and time of year.

Shadow Work Focused On Duality And Balance

Since this time of the year and holiday is such a potent time to access the liminal space, work with the crossroads, and access the universal source of duality it is one of the most affective times to do shadow work. To go deep within yourself to do self reflection, connect to your shadow self and all parts of who you are, and your inner child. To acknowledge; maybe even for the first time, some traumas, wounds, and things you may need to work through and than do the shadow work to work through them. Themes to focus on with your shadow work right now should be duality, balance, rebirth, growth, and transformation.  If you would like to learn more about shadow work you can purchase my eBook here;  you can book me for a 1:1 session as your guide here; and you can watch my free class previously taught on it through DiviNation here.

Decorate Eggs

Eggs are a symbol of the Spring and Ostara. The tradition of painting and decorating eggs pre-dates Christianity and spans multiple cultures. To appease the gods and the spirits of Spring, decorate and paint eggs, then leave them at the foot of trees as offerings. Decorated eggs in the home in Spring ensures abundance and health in the coming months. The colors you choose to use when decorating can even represent specific energies and intentions as well. Below is a list of some ideas for you as you decorate your eggs.

  • Red- Passion, Power, Transformation
  • Orange- Attraction, Good Fortune/Luck
  • Yellow- Happiness, Inspiration
  • Green-Abundance, Prosperity, Wealth, Good Health
  • Blue- Peace, Tranquility, Spirituality
  • Purple- Mystical, Magical, The Power of Spring
  • Pink-Love, Friendship

Plant or Prepare Your Garden & Seed Magic

This holiday is all about spring, rebirth, renewal, and fertility. It is the time you plant your seeds in the ground for literal plants to grow from the ground and to harvest in the fall. So, now is the perfect time to plan your garden, pick your plants for the year, and do any prep work you need to with your garden space. If it is possible that you can actually move the earth and plant your garden because it is thawed now is the time to do so and start doing that. If you can do that, you can also perform seed magic while you plant your seeds. How to do seed magic is below.

Seed Magic

  • Before planting your seeds, hold the seeds in your hand and whisper to them a goal you are working on achieving this spring.
  • As you plant your seeds into the dirt, visualize the flowers growing as you make progress towards your goal.
  • Every time you water your plants, visualize yourself achieving your goal.
  • Your goal should be achieved by the time your flowers are blooming.

Bury A Raw Egg In Your Garden Or Yard

A classic symbol of fertility and abundance, a buried egg in your spring garden blesses the harvest for fruitful yield. It helps that it also makes excellent fertilizer! This also appeases the nature spirits present in your garden. You can also spread or sprinkle eggshells in the garden for the same purposes. I do this every Friday in my garden. You can amplify this energy and blessing by drawing a fertility sigil, a symbol for a Spring deity, or a growth intention before you bury it in the earth. You can recite a mantra, prayer, or invocation as well as you buy the egg. Doing this during the Ostara and the Spring equinox can also add more energy to this practice for you.

Connect With Nature In A Mindful Way

Ostara and the Spring Equinox is all about welcoming the sun back and the reawakening of the earth. It is about the earth waking up and coming out of hibernation. Even we as humans are coming out of hibernation in a sense. So, take the time to shake off the winter blues and mindfully connect to nature by taking a five senses spring walk.

Five Senses Spring Walk

  • First, dress appropriately for the weather. Wear waterproof boots and warm clothes.
  • As you walk outside, take a moment to use all your senses.
  • Can you hear the snow melting, the birds chirping, the grass growing?
  • Can you smell the wet snow, the thawed mud, the spring air?
  • Can you see plants sprouting from the earth, buds on the trees, animals awake from hibernation?
  • Can you feel the cold snow, the wet earth, the soft plants?
  • Can you taste the fresh air or the icicle drips?
  • After you have engaged all your senses, walk back to your home. Reflect on your experience by writing it down in a journal

Perform Egg Magic

Eggs are a very common symbol with Ostara and the Spring Equinox and working with them is a great way to connect with and work with this energy. In many cultures and society, the egg is considered the perfect magical symbol. It is, after all, representative of new life. The egg is a source of powerful energy that is able to take stagnant and unproductive energy and metamorphize it into fertile and productive energy. Eggs in magic and witchcraft represent fertility, rebirth, creation, nourishment, protection and abundance. There are many different ways to work with eggs magically to learn how to you can read more about how to do so in my previous blogpost here.

Pick Wildflowers

The symbol of the flower is new life. Flowers have an uplifting effect on us. Their bright colors prove even though there is a time for death, there will always be a time for rebirth. This Ostara, pick some wildflowers and place them in a vase on your table or altar. Or decorate your table with Spring greenery. It will remind you of the beauty of Spring and of the true meaning of Ostara which is new life.

Spring Cleaning And Cleansing

I feel like almost everyone has heard of the concept of spring cleaning. It’s really a thing and has magical meaning and ties to the energy of Ostara and the Spring Equinox. This time is about rebirth, and renewal which makes it a perfect time for us to clean, cleanse, and purify our physical spaces and ourselves. So, take the time to deep clean every nook and cranny of your home. You can add some magic to it while you do it as well while sweeping out all of the negative, stagnant, and unwanted energies of your home. You do this by visualizing and using your energy to collect all that unwanted, negative, stagnant energy and than literally sweeping it and moving it out the your front door and threshold.

Decorate An Easter Egg Tree

In Germany, it’s traditional to have an Easter tree to celebrate the Spring season. This is the same thing as a Christmas tree, except it’s for Easter. And if you’re pagan, call it your Ostara Tree. instead. Purchase hanging eggs or make your own. You can even add magical symbols and words to each egg.

Ostara And Spring Equinox Wish

One of my favorite Ostara traditions to do is making an Ostara wish using a hard boiled egg. It is so simple to do as well! All you need is a hard boiled egg. Take a hard boiled egg, write a wish or intention you would like to plant to bloom by harvest time this year. Take your egg with your wish written on it out under the moon on Ostara. Hold it up to the sky, recite your wish out loud, and than take your egg and bury it in the earth for your wish to sprout, grow, and bloom this year.

Refresh, Reset, and Redecorate Your Altar

If you have an altar or altars as part of your magical practice and workings now is a great time to do a whole reset and refresh of your altar. You can do this by making sure you clean it off, wash it with oils, cleanse it magically with smoke, sound, or water, reset it with sigils if you choose to work with them, and charge your altar with your own magic, mantras, energy, and prayers. You can than redecorate and reset your altar with any of the correspondences we talked about above that you can us to connect to Ostara and the Spring Equinox.

Egg Prosperity Spell

This spell is designed to bring you prosperity, whether it be financial or otherwise, by working with the magical properties of the egg. To learn more ways to work with the energy of abundance and to call abundance into your life you can read my previous blogpost here.

What You’ll Need:

  • An egg or eggs if making more than one
  • biodegradable sachet
  • pyrite
  • mint
  • marker, dye, and other tools to decorate the egg

What To Do:

Begin by cleansing, charging, and/or blessing your items. After the items are ready to go, write, draw, or otherwise decorate your egg with your intent: prosperity. You can draw a rune in gold on your egg to represent prosperity. Other color choices are green, orange, or violet. You can dye the egg a solid color, draw sigils, or money symbols. After the egg is decorated, place it along with the pyrite and mint into the biodegradable sachet.

When all the items are placed in the sachet, hold it in both hands and imagine it filling with gold and green light. Say,
“With egg for new beginnings adorned all in gold [you can insert your own color here, but it may not rhyme ]
With pyrite for wealth and mint for fortunes untold,
I open myself to wealth beyond measure,
And accept the Universe’s treasure.”

Once the spell is done, find a safe place in your garden, preferably by a plant also associated with prosperity and abundance, and bury the sachet

Ostara/ Spring Equinox Spell Jar

Spell Jars are one of my most favorite spells to create and tools to use in my magical practice and life. Spell jars are great to create a container of energy for you to harness and come back to over and over again when you need it! A quick run down on how to create a spell jar. Pick your items, and add them to your jar after you wash, cleanse and charger your jar. As you add your items focus on visualizing the energy of abundance and what it is you very specifically want to call into your life with that energy. Once you feel the intention and energy is set inside the jar you can take your lid and seal it shut. To add more power to your jar you can add sigils to the outside or seal the lid with wax even. Place the jar on your altar or anywhere in your home, office, or car where you can see it and come back to it when you need to call on the energy and spell again. You can shake the jar to activate the magic whenever you come back to it as well. If you need to learn more about spell jars you can check out my post here or purchase my eBook here.

Use this spell jar below to call in and connect to the energy of Ostara and Spring Equinox.

Working with the magic of March; Rebirth, planting seeds, and purification

The snow is beginning to melt, the scent of decay is all around as the plants unthaw and use the nutrients they’ve been hibernating in to come back to life. We hear the chirping of birds and critters running around among the foliage. All around us we see the awakening of the earth from its winter slumber and the emergence of new life sprouting. March is a time to focus on renewal, rebirth, fertility, growth, prosperity, and fruitfulness. March is the month we welcome the first rays of sunshine of spring and we begin to feel the harsh Winter start to dissipate. It’s the month we stop going inwards to look behind us and instead we look ahead with hope. We begin to prepare for planting our crops, and the return of the beloved Sun and the Spring. This is the most fertile time of the year to plant seeds of intention for manifestation for the rest of the year. Lay them in the ground that has been hibernating soaking up nutrients all winter long. March is the month when we watch as Winter slowly fades off, the days become noticeably longer, and spring is waving at us just over the horizon. March is a month of deep, profound, transformational change. Let’s spring into March and look at all the ways you can connect to the energy of March to allow yourself, your magic, and your intentions to really bloom and blossom this year.

History In The Month Of March

The month of March is the 3rd month of the Julian and Gregorian Calendars but was originally the first month of the Roman calendar year, called Martius named for Mars, one of the most important Gods of the Roman state. This month later took on a little more significance in history when it became known for the Ides of March. Also known as March 15th, the date of the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44BC and later making it considered an unlucky day by many and for some still today it is considered an unlucky day.

Zodiac signs for the month of March

Those born in March are said to be born under either the sign of the two fishes Pisces or the headstrong ram Aries.

Those under the sign Pisces are typically born between February 18th and March 20th. Pisces is, fittingly, a water sign, represented by the sign of the two fishes. They’re all known for being emotionally fluid, vacillating between feelings, and being very in tune with their feelings and those of others. Pisces are typically loyal, intuitive, and creative, and they are very sociable.

Those under the sign of Aries are typically born between March 21st and April 19th. Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac which makes it fittingly represented by the sign of the ram. They’re are known for being headstrong , bold, and ambitious. They love to charge a head into any situation without fear and fiery courage. Aries lights up the room with their vibrant and enthusiastic confidence.

Sacred Days And Celebrations In March

Every Single month has sacred and important days and celebrations to help you connect to the energies of the month. Plus they usually are a lot of fun to take part in! Below you will find a list of the sacred days and celebrations for the month of March! The common themes you will find are fertility, new beginnings, the welcoming of spring, the rebirth of the sun, renewal, and hope. Also take note how this month has a lot of really important holidays taking place all around the rebirth of the sun. Plus all the ideas of hope, joy , and celebration of surviving the long harsh, cold winter together. But, first we are going to talk about a few that take centerstage during this month like the hope in new beginnings with the spring equinox and Ostara.

The Spring Equinox and Ostara

The Spring Equinox is celebrated with many different holidays and traditions like the most common one being Ostara on the wheel of the year. This time is ripe with fertile energy all about growth, rebirth, planting seeds for harvest, and duality. Which is why we see so many cultures celebrating it with festivals like Ostara. Ostara is the celebration of rebirth and renewal, it is the Sabbat; a holiday marked on the pagan wheel of the year. Ostara is one of the eight Sabbats in the Wheel of the Year calendar. Ostara, is the dawn of the fertile season on the Wheel of the Year. The word Ostara comes from the Anglo-Saxon goddess name, Eostre. Eostre represented spring and new beginnings. It marks the start of the astrological year as well and is considered the New year for many different cultures and tribes around the world as they welcome back the sun. If you want to learn more about this sacred day you can read my guide all about it HERE.

St. Patrick’s day

The month of March later became even more significant with the arrival of St. Patrick’s Day in 461 BC. St. Patrick’s day is on March 17 which refers to the anniversary of Saint Patrick ‘s death in the year 461. Still considered Ireland’s patron saint to this day, Saint Patrick was born in the 4th century in Great Britain. Now, this holiday is packed with parades, good luck charms, and all things green. The event started as a religious holiday, but over time it’s become a celebration of Irish culture and excessive drinking. Now, keep in mind there are a lot of myths around this day and a lot of misrepresented history. Like some saying the “snakes” he drove out were pagans and others arguing that is untrue and being used to oppress them even today. I might be writing an article covering all the different stories around this holiday but, until then I recommend to look at all the different stories surrounding this holiday.

March Magical & Witchcraft Themes

In magic and witchcraft, March is often associated with themes of rebirth, renewal, and transition to name just a few. As the month marks the arrival of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, it symbolizes the awakening of the earth from its winter slumber and the emergence of new life. With March being named after and associated with the planet mars it is deeply connected to vitality, fertility, and the movement of energy in getting things done. This makes it one of the most fertile months for manifestation, growth, and planting new seeds.

With March being the bringer of spring, the bringer of new life; it is the ideal time for us to literally plant seeds in the ground for us to harvest in the fall to feed our families through the long harsh winter. This makes it a month not only about the fertility and potential waiting in the ground but, also a month that allows us to look forward to the year ahead. A month to welcome in joy, hope, and endless possibilities with the rebirth of the Sun. This month is ripe with the energy of fertility, new beginnings, and possibilities. This energy of new beginnings also comes with a sense of cleanliness, the need to purify. Channel into this energy when setting intentions, doing manifestation work, and your magical workings this month and watch them bloom like never before.

Another key theme with spring and the point of the wheel of the year we are tuning our energies into with the month of March is renewal, rebirth, and transition. These themes make it a very key time to be willing to go deep within yourself to connect to your true creative force. To figure out how to awaken that force within you that makes the courageous moves towards making your goals and dreams come true. Now that the earth is unthawing from the Winter. It is a month to maintain balance, and to work with your duality and shadow. When doing this you allow yourself to be open to the massive amount of transformational, transitional, and renewing energy this month has to offer.

The Gods And Goddesses Of March

With every season and month there are certain themes, magic, and energies we have the ability to connect to including deities.Everyone works with and views deity energy a little differently. Whether you view them as archetypes of the human consciousness, representations of the source energy, or as being entities on their own, there are certain deities that now is the time to connect to and honor them in the most sacred and amplified way.( Don’t forget to grab my eBook in the shop to help you explore this)

During this month a few deities take center stage because they have festivals or sacred days during this month to help you connect with them in a very intimate way. The deities that are going to be the best for you to connect to right now are going to be those who represent spring , the changing of the seasons, and the sun; like Persephone and Demeter. Especially since this is the time of the year those two are together on Earth. Deities that can connect you to fertility, fruitfulness, and growth are also great to call to this time as well. Don’t forget one of the most pivotal moments of this month is when the sun is reborn with joy and hope. So, don’t be afraid to connect with deities of the sun as well!

This time is also a very liminal time. This month gives us access to one of the two times during the year the veil is the thinnest, and we can have access to other realms and the crossroads with much more ease. Deities that have the ability to bring you wisdom, guidance, and access to you shadow shelf like Hecate, the Morrigan, and Persephone are amazing to call to and work with during this time. Being guides with you along the road to renewal as the season change to spring preparing you for fresh new growth. Below we will talk about some of the deities you can work with this month. I could never list them all here.

Persephone

First up, the goddess who has held my heart for many years. The one I rejoice during this month as I greet her again as she returns from her quality time with her beloved Hades; Persephone. Her story during this month reminds us of the need for balance between life and death, darkness and light, and the constant cycle of change that occurs in nature and in our own lives.

Estore
Next up we have one of the most important goddess of spring is; Eostre. She is the Germanic goddess of fertility, rebirth, and dawn. Sometimes referred to as the goddess Ostara, this deity was associated with springtime because this was the season when the days began to lengthen and the sun became stronger. She was also associated with the hare and the egg, which were symbols of fertility and new life. Unfortunately, we don’t know much else about her or how she was worshipped since we only really see her name in passing outside of one text. She’s mentioned in the writings of an 8th century monk known as Venerable Bede, who reported that pagan Anglo-Saxons in medieval Northumbria held festivals in her honor during the month of April.

Inanna -Ishtar

Inanna is a primal ancient goddess who emerged from the Cradle of Civilization as we know it now; Mesopotamia. Some know her as Ishtar while others know her as Inanna-Ishtar. Inanna is the Goddess of Fertility, Love, Procreation, War, Death, and Spring: she is a complex Goddess embodying ALL aspects of the divine feminine. Ancient peoples who went against the gender-binary were cult members. She is a goddess who brings self-empowerment, protection, love, strength and abundance. She will aid in your spiritual endeavors and will also help heal and bring to light your shadows. Inanna is a fierce goddess who dominated the gods’ realms, boldly journeyed through the Underworld, and acquired her innate wisdom from the god Enki. Her worship involved celebrating the spring equinox and the renewal of life. She is even featured in the Epic of Gilgamesh, Inanna and the Huluppu-Tree, and The Descent of Inanna. Plus the “Ishtar Gate” was part of Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylon. While she is a goddess of ancient Sumerian origin, her worship eventually spread throughout the ancient Middle East to Akkadia, Assyria, Greece and Phoenicia (among others). Her name means “Lady of Heaven”, derived from ancient Sumerian word nin-a-nak. She is often portrayed as a beautiful young woman with a pair of wings. Her sacred animal, the lion, accompanies her in her travels. Inanna carries her symbol, the eight-pointed star, in most manifestations. The Queen of Heaven sits upon a lion throne and holds a snake-scepter. Working with her this month allows you to connect to one the most primordial energies we have representing the return of Spring.

Mars

Last up, we have the deity this month is named after; the Roman god of war and protector of crops Mars. He is a powerful deity associated with military power, aggression, and conflict. Mars is the Roman God of war, and one of the most important Gods in ancient Rome, second only to his father Jupiter. One of his most important festivals kicks off this month on the first; Feriae Marti. He is the son of Jupiter and Juno. Plus the father of Romulus and Remus, the legendary founders of Rome; whom we just celebrated last month during Lupercalia. By the way he fathered with the priestess Rhea Silvia by rape. This is why many Romans considered themselves the sons of Mars. Mars represents strength, courage, and the relentless pursuit of victory, often depicted with symbols like the spear, shield, and the wolf or woodpecker, animals sacred to him Since he represented the virtue and strength of nature and youth, he was often part of rituals dedicated to military practice. Especially, the ancient Italian practice of Ver Sacrum, the Sacred Spring: when citizens made the sacred decision to remove the new generation from the territory as soon as it became adults .Essentially sending them out to found new communities and military strongholds. It was though that, Mars welcomed the expelled young people under his tutelage and protected them until they founded a new community. Working with him this month allows you to connect with the energy of renewal with a bold strength and boundless courage.

We’ve talked a lot about all the different types of energies the month of March has and gives us access to work with. So, how can you specifically connect to those energies? In your every day life you can make sure your affirmations and manifestation work align with the energies of growth, prosperity, hope, renewal, new beginnings, the Sun, and fruitfulness. Some Rituals and spell workings during this time that will be really intensified will be based on renewal, new beginnings, rebirth, and manifestation. Other spells that will have some significant meaning right now and help you connect to the energy of March should be centered around planting new seeds, fertility, and manifestation. While using the boldness of this month to make fearless steps towards your goals. This month is another month when you can really get some clear and transformative messages from your guides. As we are in a liminal time of transition welcoming the birthing moment of the Sun once again. As we emerge from the dark, cold, harsh days and nights of Winter. You can do this through any means of divination you prefer but, fire gazing is one to think about to align with the correspondences of this month.

Don’t forget to connect to the magic of March by centering their rituals, and spell workings around the themes of cleansing and purifying as well. Since, this theme is central to the month as nature goes through it’s own cleansing as it awakens from it’s slumber. Try connecting to this purifying energy by taking a ritual bath, doing a cleansing floor wash, or smoke cleansing your home with an herb bundle. Rituals and spell workings during this time that will be really intensified will be based on prosperity, wealth, growth, and rebirth. You can do things like create a lucky money bag, a prosperity bowl, cast abundance spells or perform some spells using egg magic. Egg magic is very potent this month connecting you to one of the universal symbols of rebirth in throughout the world. To learn more about egg magic check out my guide HERE.

Duality and the month of March

Since, I am a grey witch I look for the duality in every single energy I work with including sacred times like a month of the year like the one we are currently in, March. This month is a really easy one for me to connect to the duality of it. As the phrase goes “March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb”. It is a month that starts with a fierce, bold, strength as we will still have the last few stormy weeks of Winter left. Then it ends with the caring, gentle, and welcoming embrace of the blooming Spring. As we walk around in nature we see the duality in stark clarity as well. As we take in the snow not yet melted on the ground, the scent of death from the plants just beginning to peak out , the sound of bird chirping as they jump from tree to tree, and the air no longer has a stinging cold bite. This month also marks the duality of the transition point we all experience when the sun is reborn on the March Equinox. The March equinox marks the solar waxing energies of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere and the waning energies of Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere happening simultaneously. No matter where we are in the world we can tap into the duality that expresses itself in so many ways on this sacred day. This includes: Yin and Yang, waxing and waning, giving and receiving, Ascent and descent, Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine, light and dark, beginnings and endings, (re)birth and death (embodied in tales such as that of Persephone and Inanna). Not only that in many religions and cultures around the world, their God is reborn or rises at Spring like with Jesus in Christianity and Osiris in Egypt. Lastly the dualities of this month are seen in the Seed itself that we plant during this month. The seed which manifests in both Spring and Autumn in different ways. While also representing the cyclical nature of life and death itself that permeate the month of March as well.

Spring Forward With March To Bloom The Rest Of The Year

We talked about many things in this blogpost including the history, some celebrations, the different energies and magical themes we can work with during this month. Along with how to connect to those energies, deities we can honor and worship, and how to work with the magic of March. March is a uniquely magical time that invites everyone to plant the seeds for hope with the arrival of spring. While also reminding us of the harshness of Winter sill surrounding us with snow storms that we have to be resilient and get through. However you choose to connect to the many energies March has to offer you; from rebirth, fertility, growth, fruitfulness, cleansing and wealth enjoy how the refreshing energy of spring will bring a new sense of life to you and your magic. And watch things bloom throughout the year like they never have before.

About Me : I have been a solitary grey magic practitioner for 15 + years. First and foremost, I consider myself a mystic and seeker of all knowledge. I am dedicated to the restoration, and re-enchantment of Magic in society, across this realm, and in each and every soul I come across in life! I am here to create a container that promotes healing, duality, and raw authenticity. I do this by guiding you on your personal journey to understanding your unique magic and sacred contracts. I facilitate this for you through embracing your shadow, duality and learning to live in energetic balance while not wearing a mask. When you work and learn from me you do so from your “darkness” as much as your “light” and in a way to truly harness and accept it not to just go thru it on the way to your light. But, I teach you how to truly embrace it, work with it, and use it alongside your light as a partner. I hold up a mirror for you to be able to see your authentic reflection looking back. Then have the courage to take the next step and do the uncomfortable but vital inner work to completely remove your mask. By facing all of your past wounds, traumas, and hurts. Allowing you to see both the dark and light within your story and take each chapter and alchemize it into something that is so powerful. your unique internal flame will shine so bright you will always be able to go within and find it on a dark cold night. You will learn how to truly live in duality and energetic balance to allow growth, and alignment with your sacred contracts and purposes. to finally move on and truly let the things that hold you back in this life from healing and manifesting go. To see everything I offer; like personalized shadow work sessions, womb healing, eBooks for you to work through on your own, Tarot sessions for guidance and more! Go to my shop!
