The Serpent’s Ascent: Embracing My 33rd Year on September 7th in the Year of the Snake

Beloved seekers, as I sit in the stillness of my sacred space on this mystical Sunday, the air feels thick with anticipation. The year of the snake weaves its sinuous path through the cosmos, its scales shimmering with ancient wisdom, and on September 7th, I will cross the threshold into my 33rd year. This isn’t just a birthday—it’s a sacred initiation I’ve come to call the Serpent’s Ascent, a name that resonates deep within my soul. I can feel it now, a vibrant energy coiling at the base of my spine, winding tighter with each breath, a serpent of light poised to surge through all 33 of my vertebrae the moment I awaken as a 33-year-old. This milestone vibrates through me, a hum of transformation and divine connection that I’ve craved since I first stepped onto the witch’s path. As I reflect on this journey, I invite you to join me, to explore the rich tapestry of beliefs that elevate 33 to a master number, and to prepare for your own serpentine awakening.

A Personal Prelude to Transformation

Transformation is the heartbeat of my existence. I’ve danced with it through every shadowed valley and sunlit peak, thriving in the liminal space where the old self dies and the new is born. Each shedding of skin—whether through the loss of a loved one, the unraveling of an identity I’d outgrown, or the healing of wounds carved by trauma—has been a crucible of fire and rebirth. The pain has been sharp, the anguish a wail in the night, but the gifts—resilience, intuition, a love that burns brighter than ever—have been worth every tear. I crave this process, this alchemy of soul, for it’s where I find my truest self. Yet, as September 7th draws near, this transformation feels different, a crescendo I’ve never known.

The energy of 33 is already stirring within me. My body hums with it, a serpent’s coil at my root chakra, waiting to rise. I can feel it in the quiet moments—when I tend my garden under the moon’s gaze, when I cast spells with trembling hands, when I sit with my deities and let their wisdom flow. This anticipation is a new melody, a song of power and possibility that leaves me breathless. I sense it’s not just my own ascent but a call to guide others, to share the light I’ve forged in my darkness. This year, I want to stand as a sovereign being, unmasked and unapologetic, beside the dark goddesses who’ve walked with me—Hecate with her torch, Lilith with her wild freedom, Sekhmet with her fierce healing. Their strength has shaped me, and now, at 33, I feel ready to embody it fully.

The Spiritual Weight of 33

In the glow of my altar, surrounded by the scent of sage, the flicker of black candles, and the cool touch of moonstone, I’ve meditated on the significance of 33. This number isn’t just a marker of time; it’s a cosmic key, unlocking doors to awakening, enlightenment, and divine connection across cultures and traditions. Let’s journey into its depths, exploring the beliefs that have shaped its mystique and how they mirror my own path.

The most resonant thread for many is the Christian association with Jesus Christ. Tradition holds that he was 33 when he faced crucifixion, a moment not merely of physical sacrifice but of spiritual ascension. Historians debate the exact timeline—some point to the Gospels’ vague chronology, others to early church writings like those of Eusebius—but the symbolic weight endures. This age marks the completion of his earthly mission, a transition from human struggle to divine reign. For me, reaching 33 feels like a mirror to that journey, a call to evaluate my purpose, to let my light shine as a testament to growth. It’s a year to stand tall, to weave my own victory over limitation, much as I’ve done through every shadowed trial.

In numerology, 33 is a master number, standing alongside 11 and 22 as a pinnacle of spiritual potential. Known as the “Master Teacher,” it amplifies the qualities of 3—creativity, communication, and spiritual growth—doubling its energy into a force for enlightenment and selfless service. Pythagoras, the ancient Greek philosopher, saw 3 as a perfect number, a symbol of harmony between body, mind, and spirit. The repetition in 33 elevates this into a teacher’s role, a guide for others. I feel this pull in my bones, a desire to inspire, to heal, to hold space for the collective. It’s a vibration I’ve been stepping into with each spell cast, each soul I’ve touched, and now, at 33, it feels like a mantle I’m ready to wear.

Beyond these, 33 weaves its magic through other traditions. In Freemasonry, the 33rd degree of the Scottish Rite, established in the 18th century from medieval stonemason guilds, marks the highest rank, a culmination of esoteric wisdom. The rituals, steeped in symbols like the double-headed eagle, speak of enlightenment—a knowledge I feel echoing in my own path. In Kundalini Yoga, the 33 vertebrae of the spine are a sacred map, each a step for the serpent energy to climb toward the crown chakra. This practice, traced to ancient India and texts like the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, aligns with my sense of a rising force, a personal awakening tied to my spine’s structure. In Buddhism, the Devata-samyutta of the Pali Canon mentions 33 devas, celestial beings under Indra’s rule, adding a layer of divine multiplicity. These threads—Christian, numerological, Masonic, yogic, and Buddhist—interweave to create a tapestry of 33 as a year of ascent, a time to rise into our divine potential.

The “Christ Year” and Alternative Visions

The “Christ year” at 33 is more than a Christian ideal; it’s a universal invitation to face significant life events that test our beliefs and propel us toward deeper understanding. For me, this year feels like a window to embrace my spiritual journey fully, to step into the role of a “master teacher” or “healer” as numerology suggests. But as a free witch, I see beyond a single label, exploring alternative terms that resonate with my pagan and mystical path. These names paint a richer picture of what 33 might hold for me and for you:

The Apotheosis Year

The term “Apotheosis,” derived from the Greek apotheoun meaning “to deify,” speaks to the highest point of spiritual development, a culmination where one ascends to divine status. As I stand at 32, on the cusp of my 33rd year on September 7th, 2025, this resonates deep within me, a peak I’ve been climbing through the shadows of my life. The Greek roots trace to Hellenistic traditions, where mortals like Hercules were elevated to gods after trials, a mirror to my own journey through divorce at 10, the fires at 15 and 16, and the abuse from 13 to 17. Each pain was a crucible, forging me into something divine, and now, I feel Lilith’s wild rise within me, a goddess born from the ashes of sexual assault and betrayal.

This year feels like the culmination of my shadow work, those nights at 15 when I scribbled spells in my journal to survive, the moments at 30 when I faced my husband’s affair with Lilith’s fierce love guiding me. The energy coils at my spine, a serpent of light ready to crown me with sovereignty. I see it in my shamanic journeys—standing under a full moon, my scars glowing like stars, a divine self emerging. This apotheosis isn’t just personal; it’s a call to empower others, to lead workshops where we reclaim our light from darkness. At 33, I’ll anoint myself with honey and rosewater, invoking Lilith to seal this elevation, a ritual to step into my godhood, forged in the fires of my past.

The Veiling/Unveiling Year

The “Veiling/Unveiling Year” speaks to a profound shift in perception, a lifting of the veil between worlds that reveals hidden truths. This concept aligns with my work with Hecate, the goddess of crossroads, who has guided me since I was 10, staring at the stars after my father’s death. The term evokes the mystical insight of ancient priestesses, who peered beyond the mundane, a practice I’ve honed through my trials—abuse from 13 to 17, the sexual assaults at 15, the near-homeless nights. At 33, I feel this veil thinning, a moment to see the truths my pain has obscured.

I remember the nights at 16, after the second fire, when I scried with a cracked mirror, Hecate’s whisper showing me my mother’s betrayal before the truth emerged. Now, as I approach 33, I see the abuse not just as suffering but as a teacher, revealing my resilience. My visions grow clearer—dreams of a serpent uncoiling, showing me the strength in my bisexuality, the healing in my mental health struggles. On September 7th, I’ll light a black candle, call Hecate to lift the veil, and journal the truths that surface—my worth, my power. This unveiling is a gift, a light to share with those who’ve walked my path, a beacon from the shadows I’ve mastered.

The Soul’s Culmination/Initiation

The “Soul’s Culmination/Initiation” marks a milestone where past lessons converge, initiating me into a new level of magical power. This feels like a rite of passage, a leveling up of my soul’s journey, guided by Sekhmet, whose roar has pulled me through since the fires at 15 and 16. The concept echoes ancient mystery schools, where initiates faced trials to ascend, mirroring my life’s crucibles—caring for my siblings at 17, nursing my stepdad at 22, surviving near-death at 28. At 33, these lessons culminate, a sacred initiation into my destiny.

I feel it in my bones, the weight of each scar—divorce at 10, abuse, the affair at 30—shaping me into a vessel of power. Sekhmet’s strength surged when I fought to live for my son, her fire a shield against despair. This initiation is a ritual of rebirth, where I’ll craft a talisman from ash and amber, chanting her name to seal my ascent. The energy at my spine hums, a serpent rising, promising a power to guide others—circles where we heal, spells to break chains. On September 7th, I’ll stand under the stars, offering my past to the earth, initiating myself into this new chapter, a light born from every tear.

The Weaver’s Turning

The “Weaver’s Turning” draws on pagan themes of fate, where the Fates—Clotho, Lachesis, Atropos—weave life’s threads, and at 33, I take the spindle to shape my destiny. This resonates with my journey, stitching together the fabric of divorce at 10, the fires, the caregiving at 22, into a tapestry of purpose. Ancient lore, like the Norse Norns, speaks of this turning point, a moment to consciously weave, a practice I’ve lived by braiding spells from twigs at 16.

I see my past as threads—black for the abuse, gold for resilience, red for love—each a lesson to knot into my future. At 30, the affair’s pain taught me to weave independence, a thread I now strengthen. On September 7th, I’ll gather these colors, braiding a talisman over three nights, chanting to the Fates to guide my hands. This turning is my power, a light to share in workshops, teaching others to weave their destinies. The serpent’s energy coils, ready to thread my legacy—books, circles, a grey witch’s art—into the cosmos.

The Oracle’s Opening

The “Oracle’s Opening” signifies a deepening of my channel to divine guidance, a time when my intuition and connection to spirit guides peak. As an Oracle of the Gods, this resonates, my life’s trials—mental health battles, bisexuality struggles—honing my receptivity. Ancient oracles, like Delphi’s priestesses, channeled wisdom, a path I’ve walked since scrying at 16, guided by Hecate, Lilith, and Sekhmet.

I feel it now, the veil thinning as I approach 33, dreams of serpents whispering truths—my worth after abuse, my strength post-betrayal. I’ll light a white candle on September 7th, scrying with a moonstone, asking my guides for visions. The energy at my spine surges, a light to share, guiding others through divination circles. This opening is my gift, a beacon from my scars.

The Great Work’s Culmination

The “Great Work’s Culmination” draws from alchemical traditions, where lead transforms to gold, a process I’ve lived through my trials. Texts like The Kybalion by the Three Initiates speak of this, mirroring my journey from abuse to sovereignty. At 33, I anoint my third eye with honey and myrrh, affirming my enlightenment.

The pain—fires, near-death—has been my crucible, the gold my resilience. On September 7th, I’ll meditate, feeling the serpent rise, a light to heal others. This culmination is my art, a legacy of transformation.

The Serpent’s Ascent

The “Serpent’s Ascent” is my Kundalini awakening, the 33 vertebrae a ladder for spiritual energy. From Yoga Sutras, this rise mirrors my life’s climb, abuse to power. I meditate daily, feeling the coil at 32, ready to crown at 33. On September 7th, I’ll chant, letting the serpent light my path.

The Sacred Reckoning

The “Sacred Reckoning” is my self-evaluation, aligning with truth after trials. I’ll journal my past, vowing sovereignty on September 7th, a light to guide others.

For me, The Serpent’s Ascent is the truest name. That energy at my spine, winding and waiting, mirrors the Kundalini rise, a serpent of light ready to ascend. This year, I see it as a sacred reckoning, an unveiling of my authentic self, and a culmination of the Great Work I’ve been weaving through every transformation. It’s a personal alchemy, turning the pain of my past—losing my dad and stepdad, facing betrayal, healing from abuse—into the gold of my sovereignty. I’m trembling with the anticipation of it, a dance with the divine that I’ve prepared for my whole life.

A Tapestry of Personal Transformation

Let me take you back, dear ones, to the moments that have forged me into the soul I am today.

The Fracture at 10

At 10, my world shattered when my parents’ divorce tore our family apart. I remember the late-night arguments echoing through our small house, the slammed doors that jolted me awake, and the heavy silence that followed like a specter. My father’s death in a car accident soon after was a blow that stole my breath. I sat by the window, staring at the stars , their light dimmed by his absence. Grief wrapped around me like a shroud, but in that darkness, a whisper stirred—a connection to the unseen. One night, under a waxing moon, I lit a candle I’d stolen from the kitchen, not knowing it was my first spell. The flame danced, and I felt a presence, perhaps Hecate, brushing against my soul, gifting me resilience. That pain was a seed, planted in ash, the first bloom of my free witch spirit, a light I’d nurture through the years.

The Storm from 13-17

From 13 to 17, my home became a battlefield under my mother and stepdad’s reign. Their hands left bruises on my skin, their words carved deeper wounds, and their emotional abandonment hollowed me out. I’d retreat to my room, a sanctuary of chipped paint and a worn journal, scribbling spells I didn’t yet understand—words to shield, to heal, to survive. The abuse was a shadow I couldn’t escape, a weight that pressed me into silence, but it forged a quiet strength I didn’t know I had. At 15, the violation of sexual assault struck more than once, a trauma that bled into my dreams, leaving me trembling under the covers. I’d stare at the moon through my cracked window, begging for release, and felt a flicker of Lilith’s wild energy, urging me to reclaim my power from the ashes of violation. That darkness was my first teacher, a crucible that seeded a gift of intuition, a light I’d later wield as an Oracle.

The Fire at 15

At 15, fire consumed our house, a blaze that devoured my childhood in hours. I stood outside in the ashes, clutching a photo of my father as flames licked the sky. Everything—clothes, books, my first makeshift altar—was gone, reduced to smoldering ruins. The loss was a physical ache, a void where safety once lived, but it stripped away illusions, forcing me to face my resilience. I slept on a hotel bed that night, whispering prayers to the night sky, and felt Sekhmet’s roar in my chest, a call to rise from the ashes. That pain planted a seed of survival, a gift that bloomed into a determination to rebuild, a light I carry into every ritual I craft.

The Second Fire at 16

A year later, at 16, fire struck again, this time with the sting of betrayal—my mother’s arson landed her in prison. The house crumbled, and with it, my last tether to stability. I stood amid the ashes, the acrid smell filling my lungs, caring for my siblings, their small hands trembling in mine, as I took on a mother’s role I never chose. The pain was a crucible, a weight that threatened to break me, but it gifted me a strength I didn’t know I possessed. Under a crescent moon, I gathered twigs from the wreckage, weaving a protection spell with tears and intent, and Hecate’s presence steadied me, teaching me to guard what’s mine. That seed bloomed into a light of responsibility, a beacon I now share.

Caring at 17

At 17, with my mother behind bars, I became the guardian of my siblings alongside my stepdad. Mornings were a whirlwind of making breakfast, soothing their tears, while nights were spent studying by candlelight, the flicker my only companion. The burden was heavy, a mantle of duty that aged me beyond my years, but it wove a thread of love through my soul. I’d sit on the porch, gazing at the stars, the cool night air a balm, and feel Lilith’s wildness, urging me to find joy amid the chaos. That pain seeded a gift of nurturing, a light I now pour into my circles, a testament to the strength I found in those quiet moments.

Loss at 18

At 18, my stepbrother’s death hit like a thunderclap, his laughter fading into a silence that haunted me. I lit a black candle, mourning under the new moon, the wax dripping like tears, and felt Sekhmet’s strength pour into me, teaching me to honor loss with action. The pain was a seed, blooming into a compassion for others’ grief, a light I carry into every healing spell I cast.

Caregiving at 22

At 22, I cared for my stepdad through cancer, his frail body a mirror to my own endurance. I held his hand as he weakened, and wept when he passed, the room heavy with loss. The exhaustion was a shadow that clung to me, but it gifted me patience, a light I now weave into my work. Hecate’s whisper guided me through those nights, showing me death’s sacred cycle, a lesson that deepened my connection to the unseen.

Near-Death at 28

At 28, my son’s pregnancy nearly claimed me, complications threatening my life while carrying him and during delivery. The hospital room blurred with pain, machines beeping a frantic rhythm, and I fought to see his face, his tiny cry my anchor. Each near-death moment was a descent into shadow, a battle I waged with every breath, but Sekhmet’s roar pulled me through, gifting me a fierce love for my child. That pain seeded a gift of survival, a light I now share with others facing their own trials, a testament to the strength I found in that sterile room.

Betrayal at 30

At 30, my husband’s affair shattered my trust. I found the messages, felt the sting of betrayal pierce my heart, and retreated to my altar where I fell to my knees, the air thick with incense. Lilith’s wild energy surged, teaching me self-love through the wreckage. The pain was a seed, blooming into a gift of independence, a light I’m still weaving into my sovereign path, a flame that burns brighter with each step I take alone.

Struggle and Identity

Throughout these years, homelessness loomed like a specter, my bisexuality and mental health a quiet battle waged in the shadows. I’d sleep in my car or on the floor, the cold seeping through, journaling in powerless house, the ink a lifeline. Facing my truth—loving beyond boundaries, wrestling with anxiety—was a crucible, but Hecate’s guidance steadied me, gifting me authenticity. Those struggles seeded a light of courage, a beacon that now rises at 32, ready to illuminate my ascent.

This ascent isn’t just mine; it’s a collective call. Through the shadows, I’ve learned to guide others—offering shadow work, weaving spells, holding sacred circles— and now, I feel a pull to amplify that light. The energy coiling at my spine isn’t solely for my healing; it’s a beacon for those ready to rise from their own ashes. I dream of workshops where we reclaim our power, of books that honor the duality I’ve lived, of a legacy that shines as the Oracle and Keeper I was destined to be. This year, at 33, I yearn to stand unmasked, to let my free witch soul radiate, embracing the sovereignty forged in every trial I’ve faced.

The History and Systems Behind 33

To understand this energy, let’s delve deeper into its roots.

Christian Perspective

The Christian association with the number 33 begins with the life and death of Jesus Christ, a cornerstone of faith that has shaped its spiritual significance across centuries. Scholars like John P. Meier, in his exhaustive work A Marginal Jew, suggest that Jesus’ crucifixion likely occurred between 30 and 33 AD, based on Gospel timelines and Roman historical records, such as those of Josephus. The Synoptic Gospels—Matthew, Mark, and Luke—imply a ministry of about three years, placing his death at approximately 33, while John’s Gospel offers a slightly different chronology, sparking debates among theologians. Early church fathers, notably Augustine of Hippo in his City of God (written in the early 5th century), elevated 33 as a perfect number, reflecting the Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—culminating in Jesus’ ascension. Augustine argued that this age marked the completion of Christ’s earthly mission, a transition from human suffering to divine reign, a theme that resonates with my own journey.

For me, this historical debate mirrors the crucibles I’ve faced. At 10, the divorce and my father’s death in a car accident felt like a personal crucifixion, a stripping away that forced me to seek divine guidance under the stars, where Hecate first whispered to me. The abuse from 13 to 17, the sexual assaults at 15, and the fires at 15 and 16 were my Gethsemane, moments of despair where I lit candles and prayed for deliverance, feeling a presence lift me. Augustine’s theology, which sees 33 as a number of perfection through sacrifice, aligns with my path—each scar from caregiving at 17 and 22, near-death at 28, and betrayal at 30 has been a step toward my own ascension. The early church’s emphasis on resurrection after suffering speaks to my resilience, a light I’ve carried through homelessness and mental health struggles.

Historical debates further enrich this perspective. Some scholars, like E.P. Sanders, argue the 33-year mark may be symbolic, drawn from Old Testament numerology where 3 signifies divine completeness, doubled for emphasis. Others, like Geza Vermes, suggest it reflects a midlife crisis in Jewish tradition, a time of reckoning—mirroring my own sacred reckoning at 33. The Council of Nicaea in 325 AD solidified Christ’s divinity, reinforcing 33’s spiritual weight, a legacy I feel as I prepare for my Serpent’s Ascent. On September 7th, 2025, I’ll honor this with a ritual—lighting a white candle, anointing myself with myrrh, and chanting a prayer to align with this divine completion, a light to guide others through their own trials.

Numerological Perspective

The numerological significance of 33 traces its roots to ancient Greece, where Pythagoras, the 6th-century BCE philosopher, laid the foundation for number mysticism. Pythagoras viewed 3 as the perfect number, representing the harmony of beginning, middle, and end—the birth, life, and death cycle mirrored in the Trinity of many traditions. He believed numbers held cosmic power, a concept I’ve felt since I was 10, staring at the stars after my father’s death, sensing a pattern in their light. The doubling of 3 into 33, explored later by Renaissance mystics like Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa in his Three Books of Occult Philosophy (1533), amplifies this into a master number, dubbed the “Master Teacher,” symbolizing creativity, communication, and spiritual growth elevated to enlightenment and selfless service.

My life’s trials resonate with this numerology. The abuse from 13 to 17, the fires at 15 and 16, and the caregiving at 17 and 22 were my lessons in resilience, each a step toward the creative power of 3. Agrippa’s work, blending Pythagorean ideals with Kabbalistic influences, suggests 33 doubles this energy, a force I feel in my guidance work—teaching shadow work, casting spells, holding circles. At 28, near-death during my son’s delivery, I tapped into this communication, whispering prayers that saved me, a light I now share. The number’s vibration dances in my rituals, a hum I’ve chased since lighting that first candle, a teacher’s path I’m ready to embrace at 33.

Historical influences deepen this. Pythagorean communities, like those in Croton, used number grids to divine fate, a practice echoed in my journaling under streetlights during homeless nights, seeking patterns in my bisexuality and mental health struggles. Later, the Neoplatonists, like Plotinus, expanded this, seeing 3 as a divine triad, doubled in 33 for cosmic alignment—a mirror to my ascent from betrayal at 30 to sovereignty. Medieval alchemists, influenced by Agrippa, linked 33 to the philosopher’s stone, a transformation I’ve lived through pain to gold. On September 7th, 2025, I’ll meditate on this, tracing 33 on my altar with salt, invoking the Master Teacher’s light to guide my legacy.

Masonic Perspective

The Masonic significance of 33 emerges from the 18th-century evolution of the Scottish Rite, a branch of Freemasonry formalized in 1801 by the Supreme Council in Charleston, South Carolina. Rooted in medieval stonemason guilds, this speculative tradition transformed into a mystical order, with the 33rd degree marking the highest rank, a symbol of enlightenment. The rituals, like the “Rose Croix” degree, feature the double-headed eagle and a narrative of death and resurrection, reflecting a journey from darkness to light—a path I’ve walked since the fires at 15 and 16 consumed my stability. The Rite’s history, documented by Albert Pike in Morals and Dogma (1871), ties 33 to esoteric wisdom, a legacy I feel in my own studies under moonlit skies.

My life mirrors this evolution. The abuse from 13 to 17 was my rough ashlar, unrefined by trial, while caregiving at 17 and 22 polished me into a perfect ashlar, ready for enlightenment. The near-homeless nights and mental health battles were my initiatory darkness, where I scried with a cracked mirror, uncovering secrets of resilience. The 33rd degree’s rituals, with their emphasis on sacrifice and rebirth, echo my near-death at 28 and betrayal at 30, each a step toward light. Historical lodges, like those in 18th-century France, blended Rosicrucian and Kabbalistic influences, a synthesis I see in my free witch path, balancing light and shadow.

The Rite’s development involved figures like Étienne Morin, who spread it to the Americas, and debates over its authenticity—some see it as a 19th-century invention, others as an ancient lineage. For me, this mirrors my journey’s duality, a path forged in pain yet crowned with power. The eagle symbolizes my ascent, its dual heads reflecting my bisexuality’s harmony. On September 7th, 2025, I’ll craft a ritual with eagle feathers and a black candle, invoking Masonic wisdom to seal my 33rd-year enlightenment, a light to share in my circles.

Kundalini Perspective

The Kundalini perspective on 33 centers on the 33 vertebrae of the human spine, a sacred ladder for the serpent energy’s rise, a concept traced to ancient Indian texts like the Hatha Yoga Pradipika (15th century) and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali (circa 400 CE). This life force, coiled at the root chakra, ascends through each segment—cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral, coccygeal—awakening consciousness at the crown, a process I’ve felt since the pain of abuse at 13 to 17 stirred my spirit. The tradition, enriched by modern teachers like Swami Sivananda, aligns with my nightly meditations, where I breathe into the scars of my past—fires, near-death, betrayal—letting the serpent rise.

My journey mirrors this ascent. The divorce at 10 and father’s death were my root awakening, a coil forming as I lit that first candle. The abuse and assaults at 15 were my sacral fire, igniting survival, while the fires at 15 and 16 were my solar plexus trials, forging strength. Caregiving at 17 and 22 opened my heart chakra, and near-death at 28 lit my throat, my voice emerging. Betrayal at 30 and identity struggles refined my third eye, and now, at 32, I feel the crown nearing. The Yoga Sutras’ samyama (concentration, meditation, absorption) guides my practice, each pose—cat-cow, cobra—tracing my 33 vertebrae, a light I’ll share at 33.

Historical texts, like the Shiva Samhita, describe Kundalini as a goddess, her rise a divine union, a mirror to my deities—Hecate, Lilith, Sekhmet. Modern adaptations, like Yogi Bhajan’s Kundalini Yoga, emphasize breath, a practice I’ve used to survive mental health nights. On September 7th, 2025, I’ll chant “Sat Nam,” holding a cobra pose, letting the serpent crown me, a ritual to awaken others.

Buddhist Perspective

The Buddhist significance of 33 lies in the Devata-samyutta of the Pali Canon, part of the Sutta Pitaka (circa 1st century BCE), which mentions 33 devas, celestial beings under Indra’s rule in the Trayastrimsa heaven. These scriptures, translated by figures like Rhys Davids, describe a council of divine support, a multiplicity that enriches 33’s spiritual weight. This tradition, rooted in the Buddha’s teachings, sees enlightenment through suffering, a path I’ve walked since the divorce at 10 and abuse at 13 to 17, finding light in the fires at 15 and 16.

My life reflects this council. The devas’ support mirrors Hecate’s guidance after my father’s death, Lilith’s strength through assaults, and Sekhmet’s roar in near-death. The Devata-samyutta’s chants, like those to Indra, parallel my prayers under streetlights during homeless nights, seeking wisdom in my bisexuality and mental health. The Buddha’s Four Noble Truths—suffering, its cause, its end, the path—mirror my journey from pain to resilience, a light I share in circles. Historical debates, like those on the Canon’s oral transmission, enrich this, suggesting 33 as a symbolic council, a support I feel at 32.

The Trayastrimsa heaven, a realm of 33 gods, aligns with my ascent, each deva a guide through my trials. On September 7th, 2025, I’ll chant their names, offering rice to my altar, invoking their light to crown my 33rd year, a beacon for others.

Preparing for the Serpent’s Ascent

As I stand on the cusp of this transformative year, I’m called to prepare—not just for myself, but to share this path with you. The Serpent’s Ascent isn’t mine alone; it’s an invitation for each of us to awaken our inner power. Here are ways to begin working with your own ascent, tailored to the energies I’m sensing and the wisdom I’ve gathered:

Meditate on the Spine

Meditation on the spine is the cornerstone of my preparation for the Serpent’s Ascent, a sacred practice to awaken the 33 vertebrae where my Kundalini energy coils. Each day, I set aside 20 minutes outside or near my altar, the air thick with the scent of sandalwood incense, a black candle flickering beside a moonstone. I sit cross-legged, back straight, closing my eyes to focus on the base of my spine, where the serpent sleeps. I visualize it—a golden thread, shimmering with the light of my trials—beginning its rise. With each slow breath, I move my awareness up, vertebra by vertebra, from the coccyx to the cervical curve, chanting softly, “I rise in light and power,” a mantra that echoes the resilience I forged through the divorce at 10 and the abuse from 13 to 17.

This practice is personal, a mirror to my life’s ascent. The pain of the fires at 15 and 16, the sexual assaults, and the near-death at 28 linger in my spine’s memory, but as I meditate, I feel Hecate’s torch illuminate each segment, releasing the shadows. I journal my sensations afterward—tingling at the sacral chakra, warmth at the heart—tracking the serpent’s progress. Variations include morning sun salutations to align with Sekhmet’s fire or moonlit sessions with Lilith’s wild energy, each deepening the rise. As 33 approaches, I’ll add a cobra pose, holding for five breaths, feeling the energy surge, a light to share with those I guide through their own awakenings on September 7th, 2025.

These practices are my own roadmap, but adapt them to your path. The key is to listen to the serpent within, to feel its rhythm and let it guide you toward your awakening.

Create a Kundalini Altar

Creating a Kundalini altar is a sacred act, a physical manifestation of the serpent’s rise within me, a space to honor the energy building toward my 33rd year. I’ve chosen a corner of my room, draping it with a crimson cloth to reflect the root chakra’s fire, layering amber and citrine stones to amplify intuition—gifts from my survival through homelessness and mental health struggles. A black candle stands for the shadows of abuse from 13 to 17, while a gold one ignites the light of resilience from caregiving at 17 and 22. I place a small serpent statue, its coils a mirror to my spine, and offer sandalwood incense weekly, its smoke a bridge to the divine feminine and masculine energies that have guided me—Hecate, Lilith, Sekhmet.

This altar evolves with my journey. After the fires at 15 and 16, I added ash from the ruins, a reminder of rebirth. Post-betrayal at 30, I included a rose quartz for self-love, its pink hue a balm to my wounded heart. I meditate here weekly, for 30 minutes, visualizing the serpent rising, its energy threading through my 33 vertebrae. Variations include moonlit offerings of honey to honor abundance or chants to the chakras, each aligning with my past—divorce at 10, near-death at 28. On September 7th, 2025, I’ll anoint the altar with myrrh, invoking the serpent’s ascent, a sacred space to guide others in their rituals.

Journal Your Reckoning

Journaling my reckoning is a soul-deep practice, a way to evaluate my past and align with my truth as I approach 33. Over the next month, I’ll dedicate an hour each evening, sitting with a leather-bound journal under the soft glow of a white candle, its flame a witness to my scars. I’ll write a 1,000-word letter to my 33-year-old self, beginning with the divorce at 10 and my father’s death, tracing the abuse from 13 to 17, the fires at 15 and 16, and the caregiving at 17 and 22. Each entry will reckon with the pain—sexual assaults, near-death at 28, betrayal at 30—asking what gifts they’ve seeded: resilience, intuition, love.

This practice is a mirror to my life’s duality. The mental health struggles and bisexuality battles find voice here, each page a release, guided by Hecate’s wisdom. I’ll use prompts like “What strength did the fires teach?” or “How has betrayal shaped my power?” to uncover truths. At the next new moon, I’ll burn the letter in a fire-safe bowl, scattering the ashes outside with an affirmation, “I release and renew,” feeling Sekhmet’s strength rise. Variations include sketching my serpent’s ascent or adding poetry, each deepening my reckoning. On September 7th, 2025, this ritual will crown my alignment, a light to share with those reckoning their own paths.

Weave a Destiny Thread

Weaving a destiny thread is a pagan ritual, drawing on the Fates’ lore, where I shape my future from my past’s threads. Over weeks, I’ll gather materials—black thread for the abuse from 13 to 17, gold for resilience from the fires at 15 and 16, red for the love born in caregiving at 17 and 22. I’ll braid them into a talisman, sitting by my altar, the air thick with myrrh, chanting to Clotho to spin, Lachesis to measure, Atropos to cut my new path. This act mirrors my journey, stitching together divorce at 10, near-death at 28, and betrayal at 30 into a tapestry of purpose.

The process is personal, a dance with my deities. After the affair at 30, I added a white thread for healing, its weave a balm to my heart. I’ll recharge the talisman monthly under the full moon, holding it while invoking Lilith’s wild energy, feeling the serpent’s rise. Variations include adding feathers from my homeless nights or beads from my son’s birth at 28, each a story woven in. On September 7th, 2025, I’ll wear it during a ritual, chanting, “I weave my destiny,” a light to teach others to craft their own threads.

Invoke the Oracle

Invoking the Oracle deepens my channel to divine guidance, a practice I’ve honed since scrying at 16. Each week, I’ll light a white candle, placing a moonstone on my altar, its glow a mirror to my intuition. For 15 minutes, I’ll scry, asking Hecate, Lilith, and Sekhmet for visions—truths about my abuse, strength from the fires, wisdom from betrayal. The energy at 32 feels potent, the veil thinning as I approach 33.

This mirrors my life’s trials. After the sexual assaults at 15, I first saw shadows in my mirror, guided by Hecate. Now, I record visions—serpents rising, stars aligning—choosing one action weekly, like a spell for healing. Variations include pendulum work or dream journals, each deepening my oracle’s voice. On September 7th, 2025, I’ll hold a grand invocation, sharing this light with my circles.

Alchemical Ritual

The alchemical ritual transforms my lead to gold, a practice rooted in my pain. Over three days, I’ll blend honey, rosewater, and a drop of myrrh in a bowl, stirring with intent under a waning moon. I’ll anoint my third eye, meditating for 30 minutes, affirming, “I am the alchemist of my soul,” feeling the serpent rise through my 33 vertebrae.

This reflects my journey—abuse, fires, near-death—each a crucible. Lilith guides this transformation, her wildness turning scars to power. Variations include adding herbs like lavender, each aligning with my past. On September 7th, 2025, I’ll complete this, a light to heal others.

Community Connection

Hosting a monthly circle connects me to others’ ascents, weaving collective energy. I’ll gather trusted souls, sharing intentions, chanting, “We rise as one,” under the new moon. This mirrors my caregiving at 17, a light to guide through workshops on September 7th, 2025.

A Final Whisper of Anticipation

As I stand at 32, on the cusp of 33, the serpent stirs within me, its energy a hum I can’t ignore. This anticipation is a new song, a melody of power and possibility that fills me with awe and a trembling reverence. I feel it in the base of my spine, a coil of light winding tighter with each passing day, waiting to surge through all 33 of my vertebrae on September 7th, 2025, under the year of the snake’s watchful gaze. It’s a vibration that courses through my body, a sacred fire that dances in my dreams, and I await its rise with open arms and a heart laid bare.

This feeling began subtly, a whisper in my meditations under the last new moon, where I saw a serpent of gold slithering up my spine, its eyes glowing with promise. Each night since, I’ve lit a black candle, tracing the scars of my past—divorce, abuse, fire, loss—with my fingers, feeling the energy build. It’s as if the traumas I’ve endured, the near-homeless nights in my car, the battles with my bisexuality and mental health, are alchemizing into something divine. I sense Hecate’s torch lighting my path, Lilith’s wildness urging me to claim my power, and Sekhmet’s roar preparing me to stand unmasked. This isn’t just a personal ascent; it’s a collective call, a beacon for those who’ve walked through shadow to rise with me.

I dream of what 33 will bring—a sovereignty forged in fire, a voice to guide others through their own crucibles. The anticipation is a physical thing, a tingling in my hands as I cast spells, a warmth in my chest as I tend my son, a pull in my soul as I journal under the stars. I see visions of workshops where we reclaim our light, of books that weave my story into a tapestry of hope, of a legacy that honors the duality I’ve mastered. The energy at my spine isn’t just for me; it’s a gift to share, a light to amplify in my circles. I feel it in the wind that rustles my altar cloths, in the dreams where serpents whisper my name, in the quiet moments when I know I’m not alone.

This anticipation is a dance with the divine, a preparation for the Serpent’s Ascent that feels both terrifying and exhilarating. I’ve craved transformation my whole life, thriving in the liminal space where pain births gifts, and now, at 32, I stand on the edge, ready to step into 33 with all its promise. The energy builds with each breath, a sacred hum that promises awakening, enlightenment, and a connection to the unseen I’ve chased since I was 10, staring at those stars after my father’s death. I await it with a heart full of hope, a soul alight with possibility, and a spirit eager to rise.

The magic of Saturday; amplify your spells with the energy of the day

Every day of the week has it’s own magic and energy you can harness to influence your life and magical practices and in this blog series we are going to talk about them all. Next up, we are going to talk about the energy and magic you can align with on Saturday. Saturday is the sixth day of the week in most cultures and calendars. Others view it as the last day of the week while in some Muslim cultures it’s the first day. In Judaism, Saturday is known as Shabbat, or the Sabbath, and is a day of rest and religious observance.

The name “Saturday” comes from the Old English word sæterndæg, which is a translation of the Latin Sāturnī diēs, meaning “Saturn’s Day”. The Romans named the day after Saturn, their god of agriculture, who was also associated with fertility, strength, wealth, feasts, and abundance.

Saturday is ruled by the planet Saturn

For pagans and witches, every single day of the week is ruled by a planet and Saturday is ruled by the planet Saturn. Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second largest planet in our solar system. Adorned with beautiful, bright, sparkling rings, Saturn is sometimes referred to as “the Jewel of the Solar System”. Saturn is also blanketed with clouds that appear as faint stripes, jet streams, and storms appearing many different shades of yellow, brown, and gray.

Magic and witchcraft themes

When it comes to magic and witchcraft you can certainly cast spells whenever you need them. But, if you want a little extra oomph, and when you want to amplify your results, aligning your spell casting with the correct day of the week is one way to do that. This day of the week got it’s name from the god of karma and time, Saturn or Chronos and connects us to Capricorn as well. Which makes todays energy all about time, karma, boundaries, baneful magic, discipline, structure, protection, banishing, material matters, and cleansing.

In mythology, Saturn dethroned his father Uranus which creates a cycle of life and death with the evolution of the old regime and the rebirth of a new one. Because of this, Saturn symbolizes concrete matter and birth-life-death cycles. This makes today an ideal day to do any spells related to destruction, abandonment, hatred, death, and disasters. Along with any type of spell work and rituals that enhance communication with spirits, ancestors, or working with the veil.

Just as Mars on Tuesday inspires us to pursue our goals, today Saturn gives us the spiritual and mental strength to do so. It increases our resistance by giving our intuition a sense of determination and gives us the attention to create realistic and successful plans. Saturn protects against any internal or external damage that may hinder us, so that we can follow our ambitions. This makes today a great day to cast spells to strengthen both the body and the mind as well.

Freezer jar spell for Saturday

Since, Saturday is ruled by the planet Saturn this makes it a great day to do any spells associated with boundaries and protection! One type of spell you can do is a freezer spell. The freezer spell for enemies serves as some of strongest levels of protection. Furthermore, its a self-defense spell to use against individuals who may wish harm or ill-will upon you. Whether you are dealing with a personal rival, a workplace adversary, or even a malevolent force, this practice can help create a barrier between you and the unwanted energy they represent and bring into your life. By literally “putting them on ice,” inside the jar, you regain a sense of control and agency over your circumstances.
How to perform:
Get into sacred space. On the piece of paper, write the name of your enemy or a brief description of the situation you wish to freeze.
Place the paper inside the container wrapped around one of the lemon halves, along with the basil, garlic, and pepper flakes. Visualize your desired outcome as you do so, focusing on the sense of liberation and protection you seek. Fill the container with water, covering the contents completely. As you do, envision the unwanted person or issue being sealed away and rendered powerless. visualize them or it being literally frozen in its tracks. Seal the container tightly and place it in the freezer. Come back to the spell once a week to charge it.

Break a bad habit spell

Since, Saturday is ruled by Saturn and Chronos this makes it a day steeped in the energy of boundaries, time, and discipline. This makes it a great day to sit down, take stock of your life and find the things that aren’t serving you any longer. The habits you do that hinder you and hold you back from reaching the goals you have set in life. To do what you need in order to structure your life for success and for you to thrive. This makes it a great day to perform spells to break habits, boost discipline, and build structure. Try this spell below today to break a bad habit in your life!

What you will need:
Red candle, black candle, chili powder, oil, ginger, basil, garlic powder, piece of paper or object that represents your bad habit.
How to perform:
Get into sacred container. Take your herbs and mix them together. Than take both your red and black candle and anoint them with your oil. Once done take your candles and roll them in your herbal blend coating them in banishing herbs. Next either write on your piece of paper the habit you want break and visualize yourself breaking it as you do. Or take you object representing that habit and hold it while visualizing yourself breaking it. Next place your candles on either side of your paper or object and light them. Again visualize yourself breaking that happen. Once you feel set in that intention, take the object and rip or break the object that represents the habit. If you have written the habit on paper do the same with the paper. Once done light the pieces on fire and chant these words; “Help to release me from the power of this bad habit. Red candle grant me your strength and passion, help me to break the bonds of this habit. Black candle provide me with your banishing power, rid me of my bad habit forever and always. Banish this habit, remove all traces so I can be free. Amen. aho. so mote it is.

Saturday black candle banishing spell

Today is a great day to do a banishing spell to get rid of someone in your life who is causing you harm or is unwanted energy and no longer healthy for you to be around. Try this simple candle banishing spell tonight at midnight to remove that unwanted person from your life tonight! All you will need is a candle and some salt.
How to perform this spell:
take your black candle and use a pin or something sharp to carve the persons name and date of birth you want removed from your life. Than take your candle and place it in front of you. Take your salt and encircle your candle in a ring of protection.
Right before midnight light your black candle. after taking some deep breaths and getting into sacred container. At midnight visualize intensely the person no longer being in your life and no longer affecting you in any way. let the candle be consumed until the flame goes out.

Chord cutting using no tools

One of the best practices for releasing unhelpful attachments is a cord-cutting ritual, a practice that severs the energetic ties that are keeping you connected and attached to people and situations that are no longer serving your highest good. When a cord-cutting ritual is successful, you regain control of your energy and are free to be more intentional about how you direct it— and who you share it with. Which makes it a form of protecting your energy, yourself and your relationships. With today being Saturday it is a very potent night to perform a chord cutting and have success!

Remember there is no right or wrong way to do a chord cutting follow your energy and intuition. Remember as well, chord cuttings may need to be done more than once if you are not set in your intention when performing and/or it is a very toxic chord like with a narcissist.

How to perform:

Find a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed, take some deep breaths in and set your sacred container by calling all your energy back to you.

Once, you feel your energy is whole, clean, and stable start to envision a chord of energy between you and the person you wish to cut your energetic chord with. If you need to envision a color; I like to use black, grey, or silver.

Once, you can see the chord, next envision whatever tools you would like to use to cut this chord. You can even chose to envision fire and burn the chord instead of cutting it with a tool.

Once, you have picked the way or tool you are going to use to cut/release this enegetic chord, take a few deep breaths in and state allowed

“ I (your name) release (their name) from my life and I cut, release, burn, and remove this energetic chord between us. This person will no longer have access to me in any realm and in any form. I am removed from them physically, mentally, emotionally, and spirituality. I cut and remove all energy attached to me from them. I remove all unwanted, stagnant, and stale energy that does not serve my highest purpose.”

Once, stated envision your tool and/or fire energy cutting and/or burning the energetic chord.

As it is cut take a few deep breaths in and out to experience the energetic release throughout your system.

Saturday Shattered life hex

With Saturday being a day to do some very potent protection magic why not teach someone in your life a lesson who really needs to learn one? Use this hex to shatter someone’s life using protection and mirror magic! To learn more about mirror magic you can read all about it here; https://modgepodgemystic.com/mirror-mirror-on-the-wall-whose-the-most-magical-of-them-all-a-guide-to-mirror-magic/

Return to Sender invoking Lilith

Another way we can cast protection spells is by using a mirror as a magical tool for protection. Mirrors can be used for protection and binding spells. They send unwanted deeds and energies back to their senders. Think about it like light: when a light hits a mirror, the mirror reflects the light back. The principles of protective mirror magic are similar: the mirror acts as a shield that reflects the energy back. One type of spell you can use a mirror for protection is a return to sender spell. Cast this one today also invoking Lilith for some extra potent protection today! If you need to learn more about how to work with mirrors as magical tools and mirror magic you can read my guide about it here; https://modgepodgemystic.com/mirror-mirror-on-the-wall-whose-the-most-magical-of-them-all-a-guide-to-mirror-magic/

Make some black salt as a magical tool

Today is one of the perfect days to make one of my personal favorite magical tools, that I try to always have on hand; black salt. Black salt may be a little time consuming to make and sometimes I am forgetful to make sure I have the ingredients but, I do my very best to always have a jar or two of black stored on my altar to use as needed.

Black salt is packed with purifying, cleansing and protection energy and that combination makes it so potent in protection. You can also amplify the black salt by chanting, or reciting an invocation as you ground your shells and blend the salt. You can draw sigils in it as you make it. You can also visualize your energy and intention as you make it to set a specific intention to your protection or target. For even more amplification you can charge the ingredients like your ashes under the moon light to add the intention of the phase and sign the moon is in.

How to create black salt:

  • Step 1- Crush your cleaned and dried egg shells using a mortar and pestle is the easiest
  • Step 2- Add ashes, black pepper, and sea salt and blend
  • Step 3-Transfer to a container for safe keeping.
  • optional- charge your ingredients under the moon prior. Add sigils to the container to amplify. You can also chant and recite invocation while blending to add intention

Black salt is a very powerful tool for protection, warding, banishing, cursing, and hexing. It has many uses from placing around your room or bed to ward of nightmares. Lining the threshold of your door for protection. Adding to a spell jar, or ritual for protection. However you choose to use black salt it should be a staple on your shelf and altar and below are some ways you can use this protective magical tool.

Uses for black salt:

  • You can add it to a spell jar to ward your property.
  • Add to many hexes, curses, bindings and banishing.
  • You can add it to a spell bag and place under your child’s pillow to ward of nightmares and bad dreams.
  • Sprinkle some in your shoes as protection when you leave the home.
  • Create a barrier around your front door with it.
  • add to a spell jar
  • add to a spell bag
  • line your front door with it
  • sprinkle under your bed
  • add to protection spells and rituals
  • use it to seal window seals and thresholds

Home protection and banish unwanted energy simmer pot

We need to not only protect ourselves magically but, also our homes. Our home is one of the spaces we spend the most time in. It’s where we manifest, do our spell work, and where our soul goes to rest and recharge each night. So, we need to make sure to regularly protect it after we cleanse and clear unwanted energy out. One of my go to protection magics for the home is using a simmer pot. Simmer pots are easy to do, very potent, and they leave your house smelling amazing! Use this recipe to bring protection into your home and banish any unwanted energy. If you need to learn more about how to use simmer pots you can read my blogpost in the link below! https://modgepodgemystic.com/simmer-pots-and-the-magic-behind-them/

The magic of Friday; Amplify your spells with the energy of the day

Every day of the week has it’s own magic and energy you can harness to influence your life and magical practices and in this blog series we are going to talk about them all. Next up, we are going to talk about the energy and magic you can align with on Friday. Friday is the fifth day of the week in most cultures and calendars. Others view it as the 6th day of the week while in some Muslim cultures it’s the last day.

For most Friday is the day they look forward to the most all week; since Friday is the last day of the working week, and the first day of the weekend. The word “Friday” comes from the Old English word Frīgedæg, which means “Freya’s day”. In Norse mythology, the name of the day is based on the name of either Freya, the love goddess, or Frigg, the chief goddess and Odin’s wife and the deity of marriage. In Latin, it’s called dies Veneris, which means “Venus’s day” and refers to the Roman goddess of love.

Friday is ruled by the planet Venus

For pagans and witches, every single day of the week is ruled by a planet and Friday is ruled by the planet Venus.  Venus is the second planet from the Sun, and Earth’s closest planetary neighbor. It’s the hottest planet in our solar system shrouded in clouds and often referred to as Earth’s twin. In most depictions Venus looks like a brilliant yellow-white reflective ball due to the vast amount of clouds covering its surface.

Magic and witchcraft themes

When it comes to magic and witchcraft you can certainly cast spells whenever you need them. But, if you want a little extra oomph, and when you want to amplify your results, aligning your spell casting with the correct day of the week is one way to do that. Since, Friday is associated with Venus it is a day to wrap you up in the embracing comfort and cloud of love. The energy of this days invites you to retreat into warmth, love, and compassion at the end of the work week.

Friday is the ideal day for spells focused on love, passion, sex, pleasure, self care, empathy, compassion, beauty, glamor, and emotional healing. This day is the perfect day to cast spells focusing on your love life in a romantic sense and your friendships as well. The energy of Venus is very social and this can be carried into your spell work and rituals today. The energy of love is the perfect energy to relax and recharge in. Some ways you can magical recharge is with self love altars, spells, rituals baths, or beauty and glamor magic do what is calling to you. Use the energy of Friday to connect you to all that love can open for you.

The magic of Thursday; Amplify your spells with the energy of the day

Every day of the week has it’s own magic and energy you can harness to influence your life and magical practices and in this blog series we are going to talk about them all. Next up, we are going to talk about the energy and magic you can align with on Thursday. Thursday is the fourth day of the week in most cultures and calendars. Others view it as the fifth day of the week while in some Muslim cultures it’s the sixth day.

Most Germanic languages name this day for Thor or a God identified with him. In Iceland, Thursday is named Fimmtudagur or “fifth day” due to it’s predominately Christian population and them wanting to refrain from naming a day after a pagan god. In India, Thursday is most often named Guruvar, meaning day of the Guru, referring to Bṛhaspati, the deva-guru, or Guru of the Gods.

Thursday is ruled by the planet Jupiter

For pagans and witches, every single day of the week is ruled by a planet and Thursday is ruled by the planet Jupiter. The planet Jupiter, often referred to as the “King of the Planets,” is a symbol of expansion and abundance in magic and astrology. Jupiter is by far the most massive planet of the solar system and the fifth in distance from the Sun. It is one of the brightest objects shining in the night sky. In most depictions of Jupiter you will see a giant gas ball that is a tapestry of colorful stripes and spots, usually a mix of oranges, whites, and browns.

Magic and witchcraft themes

When it comes to magic and witchcraft you can certainly cast spells whenever you need them. But, if you want a little extra oomph, and when you want to amplify your results, aligning your spell casting with the correct day of the week is one way to do that. Since, Thursday is associated with Jupiter, it is the ideal day for spells focused on abundance, wealth, money, prosperity, personal growth and expansion, and success.

Thursday is a very masculine day and it is all about the practical aspects of your life. This day is all about connecting to the energy of finances, legal matters, success, wealth and fame. This day is about big energy connecting you to the actions you need to take to meet your goal. This energy is all about thriving and is one of the best days and times to work the energy of abundance, prosperity, and wealth!

Correspondences for Thursday

First, what is a correspondence? A correspondence is an item or symbol that is meant to connect you to a specific energy thru it’s representation. It is seen also as an item to respect, honor, and venerate that energy as well whether it be a deity, an archetype energy, the zodiac energy the moon is currently in or a day of the week like, Thursday. I will give you some ideas below for you to use. Remember to follow your intuition with the correspondences you choose to work with and that you can always use any that correspond that calls to you for the energies of the day.

  • Element- earth
  • planet-Jupiter
  • Chakra- heart chakra ( most teachers) I also work with my root chakra on this day
  • Gender- Masculine
  • colors- deep blue, purple, green
  • Herbs/flowers-  Allspice, Angelica, Bayberry, Basil, Bay Leaves, Bergamot, Cedar, Chamomile, Cinnamon, Clary Sage, Honeysuckle, Irish Moss, Jasmine, Melissa, Mint, Nutmeg, Orange, Patchouli, Myrrh, Sandalwood, Frankincense, clover, oregano, cloves, musk
  • Stones/crystals- sugilite, Lapis Lazuli, Lepidolite, Green Aventurine, Carnelian, sunstone, pyrite, amethyst, malachite, clear quartz, citrine, tiger’s eye, aquamarine, alexandrite, turquoise
  • Deities- Thor, Jupiter, Juno, zeus , Lakshmi, Veles, Rosmerta, Caisen, Abundantia, Plutus, Aje, Mercury, Fortuna, Kubera, vishnu
  • Zodiac: Pisces and Sagittarius

Ways to work with the energy of Thursday

We’ve talked a lot about all the different themes connected to the magic and energy Thursday has and gives us access to work with. So, how can you specifically connect to those energies and perform magic aligned with it? In your everyday life you can make sure your affirmations, intentions, and manifestations set today align with the energies of abundance, wealth, fame, success, money matters, your career, personal growth and expansion.

Below you will find some ideas for spells, rituals, and magical workings you can do to align with Thursday as well. Use the magic of this day to help you connect to your relationship with money, abundance, and your success. Don’t forget to check out my Pinterest page and Facebook page as well for more spell ideas every week! And don’t forget to hop on over to my extensive guide all about abundance here; to get ideas as well! I have a lot of reels and videos for Thursday to check out! It is the day I probably have made the most for!

Work with and balance your Root chakra

Like, I hinted at in the correspondences section, I know a lot of teachers tell us to work with our heart chakra on Thursday, I believe simply because of the color correspondence with this day. But, I prefer to work with my root chakra today. Your root chakra is tied for the most important chakra in my opinion. This chakra is all about your stability, security, and your needs being met. Which is exactly what the energy of abundance does for us. It allows us to have our needs met and more. It allows us to have security in our lives in the society we find ourselves in. If our root chakra is blocked, or full of stale and stagnant energy we are going to have a very hard time connecting to the energy of abundance and believing we will be secure and have all that we need to survive. So, before you cast any abundance spells today, refresh your prosperity bowl, or do any manifestation work around money first make sure your root chakra is clean, clear, and balanced.

Thursday Candle spell to get a job

Remember, Thursday is ruled by the planet Jupiter which makes it a day of big, expansive, abundant energy. This makes it an ideal day to ask for some magical assistance in changing up our careers and getting a new job. Whether you are unemployed, or just looking for a career change try this simple candle spell with some green color magic today and watch that new job become yours! This is an extra great spell to do if you have an interview coming up already on your calendar.

How to perform:

Get yourself into sacred container. Visualize the job you wish to get. What the title is, where it is, and what it feels like getting it. As you do this carve the name of the job into the candle or a symbol to represent it. Once done Light the candle and recite. “Candle of green, energy of abundance and money do this deed for me. Bring this job with it’s money flow to me.” Let the candle burn until it goes out on it’s own. Than come back each day and light it until the job is yours!

Money spell bag

One spell you can do today to align with Jupiter; is to create a spell bag to call money into your life. First, what is a spell bag? Put simply, a spell bag is a bag of ingredients put together for a specific magical purpose. These charms are easy to make and are effective for those who have clear intentions. You can make spell bags for any purpose you would like but, one of my favorite purposes is for abundance, good fortune, and good luck.

It is common to see similar practices across many cultures like in Japan with Omamori (御守/お守り). Which are Japanese amulets commonly sold at Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples, dedicated to particular Shinto kami as well as Buddhist figures, and are said to provide various forms of luck. We also see this practice as a very popular and common part of celebrating the Chinese new year with the giving of Lai-see envelopes , good luck money wrapped in little red envelopes..

How to create one on your own is pretty simple and you have countless options for what you can do. Some things to consider, the color of the clothe pouch you use, what you put into it, and when you create it. (like today) For added enhancement you can charge your items under the new or full moon prior to putting them in. You can also write words, intentions, or sigils on your herbs before you add them to your bad. As you create your bag make sure you are feeding it with your intention through either mantras, invocations, spells, or visualization to activate your good luck and money spell bag. You can keep them on you, in your car, in your purse, on your abundance altar, under your bed or anywhere your intuition leads you. Remember – money IS energy. Keep that in mind…it IS obtainable and there is plenty for everyone! And then some! Below is listed some common things used to make Good fortune and money spell bags for you to make yours today!

coins
rice
eggshells
crystals
dried herbs
written intentions
Sigils
orange peels
Keys
Images of money and wealth
Cinnamon sticks
Paper bills

Money doubling spell

Remember the energy of Jupiter is all about thriving and is one of the best days and times to work the energy of abundance, prosperity, and wealth! Try this simple money doubling spell below today!
The last time I did it, it doubled my money down to the penny and this one is simple and easy to do!

Abundance and Prosperity bowl

It’s no secret that money is the way we survive. It buys everything. Maybe you find yourself in a tight spot and you need to pay the bills. Make an abundance AKA money bowl! This practice/spell would be the first thing I would advise you to do and the first thing I would do myself. I’d refresh a current one I have set up, add another one, or simply create a brand new one. And today is the day to do all of this!

First, what is a money bowl? A money bowl is what is sounds like – a bowl that’s used to magically attract prosperity. I like to say it’s sort of like a money jar but open and easier to feed with further ingredients and intentions. It is likely inspired by or stemming from the Feng Shui prosperity bowl or other folk magics method used in many cultures worldwide.

Money bowls can be placed in the home OR in the workplace as a magical magnet for money. I suggest using a green or clear bowl, but I’ve also seen people use gold and silver bowls since money and prosperity are linked to gold and silver too. You can add any correspondences for abundance, money and wealth you want to the bowl. I always make sure to be centered in gratitude and abundance when I add my items. For added amplification and abundance I suggest keeping your bowl in your office, place of business or where you like to get your work done.

My favorite method with these is keeping one near my front door to bring abundance in near my threshold to my home. Than every time I return back to my home any loss change and bills left in my wallet gets added to the bowl to increase the energy and my abundance I receive. Below is a list of common things used in money bowls.

  • A bowl
  • Coins
  • Paper bills
  • Written sigils
  • Rice
  • Candles
  • Written Intention
  • Bay leaves
  • Cinnamon
  • Basil
  • A mirror
  • Green Aventurine
  • Citrine
  • Clear Quartz
  • Keys
  • Gold & Green Glitter
  • Seeds

The magic of Wednesday; Amplify your spells with the energy of the day

Every day of the week has it’s own magic and energy you can harness to influence your life and magical practices and in this blog series we are going to talk about them all. Next up, we are going to talk about the energy and magic you can align with on Wednesday. Wednesday is the third day of the week in most cultures and calendars. Others view it as the fourth day of the week while in some Muslim cultures it’s the fifth day.

The word Wednesday comes from the Old English Wēdnesdæg, which literally means “Woden’s day”. Woden was the name of the chief god of the Germanic people in ancient northern Europe, who are now usually referred to as Odin. Wednesday is also sometimes called “hump day” because it’s in the middle of the work week. This term originated around 1965 and implies that once Wednesday is over, the weekend is in sight

Wednesday is ruled by the planet Mercury

For pagans and witches, every single day of the week is ruled by a planet and Wednesday is ruled by the planet mercury. Mercury is the smallest planet in our solar system and the closest to the sun. Mercury is named after the swift Roman god because it moves very quickly around the sun. In most depictions the planet, appears as a light gray color with some brownish-red streaks. Mercury is the planet that rules communication. All forms of communication from thought, speech, writing, networking, looking for information, divination, and communication thru art. Not only does it rule communication but, its very quick in it’s thinking as well and how it affects us. Mercury is also a unique planet and energy for us to connect to, as it is one of only two gender neutral planets in the solar system.

Cast a spell for improved communication and clarity of thought today for a much more focused mind the rest of the week. This day also can be great to use for luck and good fortune, specifically for a business, You can also cast spells for travel and wisdom. If you love to study, write, and read today is the day to hunker down and get it all done! This day is the perfect day to look at how you present communication and how you receive it. Today is a day to reflect and take a deep inner look and really think about if you are a good listener to those in your life.

Let my focus be sharp and all distractions fade away. Let the knowledge I seek flow to me with ease
amen aho so mote it be”

Work with and balance your throat chakra

Like stated many times above Wednesday is a day steeped in the energy of communication. How do we communicate? Where in our energy system do we get the ability to speak? The throat chakra! This makes Wednesday the best day to work with and balance your throat chakra. But, first what is your throat chakra.

Your throat chakra is located over your throat in the middle of your neck. It’s blue in color and governs how you speak to others and how you speak of yourself. Communication is the key aspect of the throat chakra and relates to ALL forms of communication including writing and music. It’s how you express (or don’t) express your truth. If your throat chakra is functioning well, you communicate your feelings and needs with others in a healthy manner AND express your true self.

The Vishuddha, or throat chakra, gives voice to the heart chakra and controls our ability to communicate our personal power. When it’s functioning at full capacity, it allows us to express ourselves truly and clearly. Someone with a blocked throat chakra will feel like they have trouble finding the words to say how they truly feel.

The Magic of Tuesday; Amplify your spells with the energy of the day

Every day of the week has it’s own magic and energy you can harness to influence your life and magical practices and in this blog series we are going to talk about them all. Next up, we are going to talk about the energy and magic you can align with on Tuesday. Tuesday is the second day of the week in most cultures and calendars. Others view it as the third day of the week while in some Muslim cultures it’s the fourth day.

The word “Tuesday” comes from the Old English word tīwesdæg, which literally means “day of Tiw”. Tiw was the name of a Germanic war god that the ancient northern Europeans worshiped. The word “Tuesday” may also have come from the Latin phrase dies Marti, which means “day of Mars”. In Old English, the Roman god Mars was replaced by Tiw, the Anglo-Saxon war god.

Tuesday is ruled by the planet Mars

For pagans and witches, every single day of the week is ruled by a planet and Tuesday is ruled by Mars. Mars is located directly next to Earth and in most depictions it is shown as being a reddish orange color. Within the solar system Mars purpose is to control and counter Venus which makes it a very masculine planet and energy. While the sun is the paternal side of the divine masculine, mars is the powerful, very virile, and aggressive side of the divine masculine.

The Unique energy of the planet mars is oozing with passion, strength, and a will to fight. Mars is associated with courage, physical energy, protection, conflict resolution, passion, power, strength, war, and assertiveness. Mars is the planet to help you prepare for any uncomfortable situation you may find yourself in.

Magic and Witchcraft themes

When it comes to magic and witchcraft you can certainly cast spells whenever you need them. But, if you want a little extra oomph, and when you want to amplify your results, aligning your spell casting with the correct day of the week is one way to do that. Since, Tuesday is associated with Mars, it is the ideal day for spells of courage, strength, protection, and assertiveness. To empower courage and confidence by envisioning yourself as strong and assertive. It is the day to ignite your inner fire, gather your strength you didn’t know you had, and call on your courage to help you face any challenge or advisory.

Tuesday is a unique day in magic as you can really cast spells to have success in all areas of your life. I would caution with doing love spells today though, as Mars can be a little aggressive with its energy. Which can led to some unwanted results like obsession. I do recommend using the passion, and fire of Mars for sex magic tonight though. It can really heat up the pleasure in the bedroom.

Correspondences for Tuesday

First, what is a correspondence? A correspondence is an item or symbol that is meant to connect you to a specific energy thru it’s representation. It is seen also as an item to respect, honor, and venerate that energy as well whether it be a deity, an archetype energy, the zodiac energy the moon is currently in or a day of the week like, Tuesday. I will give you some ideas below for you to use. Remember to follow your intuition with the correspondences you choose to work with and that you can always use any that correspond that calls to you for the energies of the day.

Ways to work with the energy of Tuesday

We’ve talked a lot about all the different themes connected to the magic and energy Tuesday has and gives us access to work with. So, how can you specifically connect to those energies and perform magic aligned with it? In your everyday life you can make sure your affirmations, intentions, and manifestations set today align with the energies of courage, strength, protection, conflict resolution, overcoming obstacles, assertiveness, sexual pleasure, the divine masculine, and Mars. Don’t forget you can focus on success in all areas of your life except love.

In some practices like wicca many witches will caution you from casting on Tuesday at all, as they see it to be too aggressive of an energy they are willing to work with. I myself don’t agree with this and cast often on Tuesday. I do recommend to make sure you are cleansing the Monday prior and adding a little extra protection to any casting and rituals you do on a Tuesday to make sure you can direct the brute force of this days energy.

Below you will find some ideas for spells, rituals, and magical workings you can do to align with Tuesday as well. Use the magic of this day to help you connect to your emotions, intuition, psyche, and our deepest shadows. Don’t forget to check out my Pinterest page and Facebook page as well for more spell ideas every week! I have a lot of reels and videos for Tuesday to check out!

Every day of the week has it’s own magic and energy you can harness to influence your life and magical practices and in this blog series we are going to talk about them all. Next up, we are going to talk about the energy and magic you can align with on Monday. For many Monday is the first day of their work week, and a day they dread feeling they are forced back into being productive. But, Monday is one of my favorite days when it comes to energy and magic we can align with, as it’s the day we really have the ability to go deep within ourselves and connect to our emotions, intuition, and psyche.

This connection makes it the perfect day to connect to our intuition, our emotions, and our psyche.

With this day being connected to the moon it is also deeply connected to your divine feminine energy in most cultures and practices. Which makes it a great day to perform spells and workings associated with the divine feminine including shadow work and womb healing. Perform cleansing spells to remove negativity, and dream recall spells to help make dreams vivid and memorable.

The Magic of Sunday; Amplify your spells with the energy of the day

Every day of the week has it’s own magic and energy you can harness to influence your life and magical practices and in this blog series we are going to talk about them all. First, we are going to start with the energy and magic you can align with on Sunday. For many, Sunday sets the tone for the work week that starts tomorrow. It’s a day full of energy and vitality, that can be all about prepping and planning for the week ahead. While also being a day to reflect on who we are, call on our inner strengths, and rest our energetic batteries.

Sunday for some, like many Americans is the first day of the week while for most other cultures and calendars it is the last day of the week. To Christians Sunday is considered their holy day, and the day Jesus was resurrected. In 321 Emperor Constantine even declared Sunday Rome’s official day of rest.

Sunday is ruled by the Sun

For pagans and witches, every single day of the week is ruled by a planet and you guessed it, Sunday is ruled by the planet it is named after; the sun. The sun is the vital life energy. It is the representation and connection to your ego, identity and the dominate traits of your personality both your strengths and your weaknesses. Due to this Sunday becomes the perfect day to focus on who you truly are and harnessing the vital energy of life to actively shape your life to be the brightest shining success it can be.

With Sunday being ruled by the Sun it makes it a day also connected to the many solar deities across the earth, cultures, and times. In many cultures the sun is viewed as masculine energy which makes it a great day to perform spells and workings associated with the divine masculine including shadow work. Some deities you can work with to connect to the magic of Sunday and the sun are; Apollo, Sol, Inti, Helios, Ra and more. You also have a handful of goddesses you can work with today as well like; Brigid, Amaterasu, and Aine.

Magic and Witchcraft themes

When it comes to magic and witchcraft you can certainly cast spells whenever you need them. But, if you want a little extra oomph, and when you want to amplify your results, aligning your spell casting with the correct day of the week is one way to do that. Sunday is a great day to perform magic related to growth, advancement, enlightenment, identity, self esteem, confidence, self worth, healing and general health, money, growing business, earning a promotion, success in politics, popularity, prosperity, hope, and anything related to the growing of plants/gardening (agriculture) and any undertaking supported by the energy of the sun.

Correspondences for Sunday

First, what is a correspondence? A correspondence is an item or symbol that is meant to connect you to a specific energy thru it’s representation. Below you will find some ideas for spells, rituals, and magical workings you can do to align with Sunday as well. Use the magic of this day to help brighten your day, bring joy, build confidence, and so much more!

Work with and balance your solar plexus

Your solar plexus IMO is one of the most important chakras in your body and Sunday is one of the best days to work with it. It’s located between the bottom of the sternum and above the belly button. The solar plexus is a yellow color and connects us to the divine energy of the sun and the light. It is your energy zone that supports self esteem, courage, and your personal power. If your solar plexus is healthy, you exude confidence and tackle goals with clarity and fervor. People may see you as vivacious and lively. Below are some ideas on how you can balance your solar plexus today. To learn more about the chakra system as a whole click the link below to read my extensive guide all about energy and energy work! https://modgepodgemystic.com/working-with-the-basics-of-life-and-magic-energy/

Perform Solar magic

One of the most potent types of magic and spells you can perform on a Sunday is solar magic. Solar magic harnesses the power of the sun to bring about positive change in one’s life. This could involve anything from casting spells, or making sun water, to meditating in the rays of the sun and focusing on your desired outcome. Whether asking for protection or blessings, developing confidence, getting grounded and centered in your self image and who you are, or encouraging growth; solar magic can bring peace, vitality, strength, movement, and harmony into your life.

The sun’s potent energy is known to amplify the effects of magical workings, strengthening the intentions set during rituals and spells. Witches and Pagans may utilize the sun’s energy to increase the effectiveness of a wide range of spells, from love and protection rituals to manifestation and abundance incantations. The infusion of the sun’s energy into these workings can lead to more powerful and impactful results.

The Sun is the energy we can connect to for joy, happiness, playfulness, and the things that truly make our souls sing with happiness, contentment, and allow us to feel as if we are thriving. The sun is seen as the archetypal joyful, and healing energy of the solar system.

To bring you the energy you need to call on when times get dark, and allow you to smile and find the rays of light you need to keep going. Try making this spell bag today to carry with you this week to bring added happiness, joy, and the rays of the sun to you all this week!

Working With The Energy of The Rainbow Through The Messenger Greek Goddess Iris

The rain falls, the thunder rolls, the lightning strikes and then out comes the sun to shine. Bringing with it an arch of colorful delight a sight that humans have been charmed by for a long time; a rainbow. The rainbow is a sign of a wish and pledge, reminding us of the magic of kindness and blessings. The rainbow is the visible sign of the transportation of messages from Olympus to Earth, uniting immortality and humanity; the divine and the mortals. The radiant colors paint magnificent arcs of light, astonishing the world as the trials left behind from the celestial wings of the elegant messenger goddess of the Greek gods; Iris.

Iris, is the Greek Goddess of the Rainbow and Messenger of the Gods, and she has an important place in Greek mythology. Known for her vivid look and elegant presence, Iris is the divine connection between gods and mortals. But Iris is more than a messenger. She symbolizes the radiance, brilliance, and enchantment of rainbows, a sight that humans have been charmed by for a long time. Iris is different from other goddesses. Other gods sometimes meddle with human affairs out of fun or interest. But Iris is devoted to her mission. She shows loyalty and adherence to duty, never stopping in her mission to keep communication between Olympus and Earth open.

Let’s fly across the skies following the arch of the iridescent rainbow and discover the significance and impact of Iris’ divine message delivery and uncover the mystical bond she shares with the vibrant and awe-inspiring phenomenon of rainbows. Ride the rainbow with myself and Iris; bridging the worlds between the mortals and the divine and learn all about the Greek messenger goddess of rainbows, blessings, wishes, and communication together in this blog post

The Symbolism Of The Rainbow

Before we fly across the skies with Iris leaving behind us the enchanting and arching trail that is the rainbow. Let’s first briefly talk about what a rainbow symbolizes and means especially to the ancient Greeks; to help us understand who Iris is as we fly with her. The rainbow isn’t just a beautiful natural phenomenon; in Greek mythology and culture, it’s a symbol of hope, communication, and the link between heaven and earth. Since the rainbow appears to bridge the gap between the heavens and the ground a rainbow acts as a conduit between the divine and the human realm. They represent the bridge between divine and human realms, facilitating communication and bringing down the divine decrees to the mortals mostly from Zeus and Hera. The lively rainbow symbolizes Iris’s presence, bringing hope, along with better communication and understanding between different realms.

Who Is Iris?

Iris is a well-known figure in Greek Mythology. She symbolizes the rainbow and is the Greek goddess who served as a messenger for the Olympian deities. Even though she is most well known as the goddess of rainbows and messenger to the gods; she is also known as a goddess of the sea and sky. In some regions she is depicted as a virgin goddess and was believed by the coastal-dwelling Greeks to replenish the rain clouds with water from the sea. She was often described as Hera’s personal messenger and one of her handmaidens.

According to homer who writes about her in the Iliad; Iris was a pleasant goddess who acted as a bridge between the gods and mortals. She served as a messenger from the gods on Olympus and brought news from the summit until Hermes, eventually took her place. After that she continued to serve the gods on olympus by serving them nectar.

She is often depicted with wings of gold; resembling those of a butterfly and pitcher, some myths said Iris filled her pitcher with water from the River Styx – a mysterious body of water that serves as a symbolic boundary between our world and the hereafter. It is known as the river we cross ferried by charon in hades to get to our eternal destination. This is one reason Iris is closely connected to water, and another way she is seen acting as a bridge between other realms and earth.

Ancient Greece saw Iris as a revered deity, the messenger of gods. The Greek goddess Iris is believed to have helped answer people’s prayers as well as been associated with messages, communication, and new ventures. She either alerted the other gods about their needs or met those needs herself.

The Greeks believed that rainbows were created by Iris when she descended from Mount Olympus. They considered rainbows to be a sign of goodwill from the gods and a blessing for those who witness it. She was seen as the link between heaven and earth, and the rainbow-hued presence was thought to bring good health and favor from the gods.

Aside from her fundamental roles as a messenger & bridge between worlds, it’s worth knowing that Iris also has significance in Greek marriage rituals. Her delicate presence during these ceremonies is a lucky sign, blessing couples with love, joy, and oneness. This lesser-known detail adds more depth to Iris’ character and shows the multi-faceted nature of this mesmerizing goddess.

Iris: The Divine Messenger

When it comes to delivering messages among the gods or between gods and humans, Iris is your go-to deity. With her golden wings, she zips across the sky, serving Zeus and Hera as their loyal messenger. Delivering the divine will of Zeus and Hera, she didn’t just pass along messages. She helped guide the gods’ decisions by smoothly communicating across the pantheon. Her role was critical, connecting the divine with mortals, ensuring the gods remained in loop with human affairs. When mortals saw a rainbow, they knew Iris was reminding them of her presence, bridging the gap between humans and gods with her beautiful hues. The rainbow, created by Iris, wasn’t just eye candy either. It was a literal bridge between the divine and mortal realms. This rainbow bridge was no ordinary phenomenon; it was a reminder of Iris’s power and her unique role as a liaison.

While Hermes is the better known messenger to the gods today, Iris used to be the main form of communication between the gods and mortals and the gods themselves. During this time, Hermes was given a much smaller role of guide or guardian. Despite many stories where Iris is the main focus somewhere between The Iliad being published and The Odyssey there was a switch between the two messengers as Hermes became the main focus and Iris was left to the footnotes or just never mentioned again.

Later poets attempted to split Hermes and Iris’ roles in the pantheon, with Hermes serving as a messenger to Zeus and the other gods while Iris became Hera’s devoted servant. The Greek polymath Callimachus from the third century BC likens Iris to a hunting hound of Hera. He said that the goddess was ever there on Hera’s throne, ears perked up to hear her commands which is when you start to see her referenced more as Hera’s handmaiden. You see an example of her carrying out Hera’s wishes; In Euripides’ “Heracles.” Iris acts on Hera’s behalf by ordering Lyssa, the spirit of frenzy and wild fury, to drive Heracles mad so that he will kill his sons. Iris is also Hera’s messenger in Virgil’s “Aeneid.”

Iris A Goddess Of Transformation And Hope

Iris also represents transformation. Just like rainbows, she stands for the power that can arise from hardship. She has a role as a bringer of hope and change. Her messages from the gods bring hope and resolution. Even today, we speak of finding a silver lining or looking for the rainbow after the storm to inspire hope and change. Iris stands as a reminder that, even during tough times, there is potential for new beginnings.

Iris And Duality

Since I am a grey witch and live in the liminal spaces every single deity I work with I look for how they can connect to duality. How do they represent the universal concept of duality that every being is meant to achieve in the universe.

With a Goddess like Iris who is the personification of rainbows you might think there is no way she can be a goddess of duality. Rainbows; like we talked about are symbol of hope which many would consider simply a light or positive thing. But, is it really? When are we looking for hope? Usually, when we are in the pits of despair, times are tough or we need a new beginning and fresh start. Which is where we get the sense of duality in hope. Hope is the opposite energy we are reaching for to balance out of despair. So, if she is showing up to be a symbol of hope for you chances are she is the energy and force that is finally tipping you into a sense of duality and balance in your life and current circumstances.

With hope usually comes transformation which itself is a very dualistic process and thing. Involving a death, shedding, and releasing along with a growth, birth, and intention. Transformation is all about getting ourselves to the next phase or stage and we do that through change by bringing ourselves to balance and using all the energies we have available to us. So, as a goddess of transformation and hope Iris herself can be seen as a representation of duality.

Her role as a messenger not only between realms, but between the gods themselves screams being a goddess of duality. Iris connects different realms with her divine presence which creates a liminal space of duality itself. Being a messenger between realms allows her access to a duality most deities may not understand. It creates a deeper connection to mortals and an understanding since she spends so much time zipping around among us. It also gives her an understanding of the duality in the differences and similarities between the gods and mortals.

Also, being a messenger among the gods requires the ability to be diplomatic and create balance amongst the gods. In order to do this she has to be able to see things from many sides and be able to find an answer that creates balance and harmony amongst them.

Lastly, you see her connection to duality in the rainbow itself which she personifies and uses for her travels. A rainbows appear due to rain and sunlight; two necessary elements. The rainbow itself creates a link between two elements which is a dualistic energy itself.

Iris And Her Diverse Family

As we fly deeper into the world of Greek mythology, Iris’s connections reveal a great deal about her character. Her family and allies include some of the most powerful and important figures in the pantheon, showing just how integral she is to the divine workings of Mount Olympus. As with almost every single pagan deity their is debate among scholars, archeologists, and historians when it comes to her parentage, origin and family. I will do my best to mention all the differences I have been able to find for her here.

Her parents where Thaumas, a marine/ocean god, and Elektra, a cloud nymph/ Oceanid and this seems to be a fact that is mostly agreed upon. This makes her part of a fascinating lineage, with her father representing the wonders of the sea and her mother the brightness of the clouds. It’s easy to see where Iris gets her radiant beauty and swift nature from. I did find a few sources claiming she was Born from the sea foam caused by Uranus’ castration as well.

When it comes to the rest of the gods she is said to be related too, she finds herself amongst a very powerful and diverse family putting Iris in a unique spot, throwing her right in the middle of earthly and divine events. Some sources claim she is a sister to powerful gods like Zeus, Hera & Poseidon even. Many sources also say that Iris had sisters; the Harpies Ocypete, Aello, and Celaeno and these women are wild – part woman, part bird, and totally fearsome. I’ll do a blogpost in the future on them and how to work with them.

Even though a few sources claim them to be siblings most agree; Iris was married to Zephyrus, the god of the west wind. He’s the gentlest of winds, bringing spring and early summer showers to people. The couple had a son, a minor god named Pothos. Pothos is the God of sexual longing, yearning, and desire and was one of the winged love gods. Does he sound familiar? He should because, some sources state that their son’s name was actually Eros.

Some believe Iris is the sister of Arke as well, a Titaness who betrayed the Olympian gods and became a messenger goddess for the Titans instead. As a result, Iris and Arke were mortal enemies. Ancient records even claim that Iris is the fraternal twin of Arke. Her many powerful and diverse connections highlight her importance and versatile role among the gods.

Myths And Stories Involving Iris

Iris’s involvement in Greek myths and stories showcases her importance as a divine messenger and her role in the divine scheme of things. Let’s land on the ground and look into some specifics. Multiple Greek tales feature Iris, she was even present in during the Titanomachy. She was an early supporter of the Olympians, including Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon. During the Titanomachy, her job was to relay messages between Zeus, the Hecatonchires, and the Cyclopes.

Iris is seen in many other classic myths and stories such as The Iliad and Virgil. In the Iliad she is the only god relaying messages for Zeus and Hera to the other gods and mortals. She is the one who was sent to inform Priam of Zeus’s decision concerning his son’s body and who informed Menelaus of Helen’s abduction. Homer frequently alludes to Iris’s appearance during the Trojan War. The most crucial thing she performed was returning a wounded Aphrodite to Olympus following Diomedes. These were all small but rather vital roles in the story of the Iliad and the war. Possibly her largest role in the story, however, is when she autonomously granted Achilles’ prayer and summoned the winds to ignite his lover Patroclus funeral pyre.

You see her flying in again with Jason and the Argonauts. Before Jason and the Argonauts could save the blind seer Phineus from the Harpies’ wrath, Iris appeared to him. Since the Harpies were her sisters, she begged Jason to spare them, and the Boreads did not kill them but instead drove them away.

She is also briefly flies by in some versions of the story of The Exile of Demeter (or as it’s commonly known as the story of The Abduction of Persephone) where Zeus sent Iris to call the self imposed exiled Goddess Demeter back to Olympus after the abduction of Persephone. In this story you see Iris being pivotal to the return of spring for mortals; bringing hope and messages of renewal to humanity.

Iris played one of the key roles, in the myth of the Twin Gods birth, Apollo and Artemis. In Callimachus she is described as being one of Hera’s messengers, along with Ares, to threaten the cities from receiving Leto in the hopes that the other Goddess would be left with no one to deliver her children. Iris then reported the birth of the children to Hera and told her there was nothing more to do and went to sleep leaning upon Hera’s throne, incurring the wrath of her mistress.

It’s even said that a time of chaos existed in Mount Olympus once. Feeling the need for peace and equilibrium, Iris took it upon herself to mediate between Hera’s rage and Zeus’ authority. With her soothing words and divine grace, she brought calmness back to their heavenly realm. This story displays not only her diplomatic abilities but also her essential part in keeping balance and harmony among the gods. It shows her role not only as a messenger between the deities and the mortals but, also her role as a messenger across the pantheon as well.

Worship Of Iris

The only recorded cult of Iris was on “Hecate’s Island” close to Delos where her worshippers would make offerings of cheesecake. She was also tasked with travelling to hades to collect water to be used in sacred oaths. She has also generally been associated with the themes of winter, peace, protection, air, meditation, promises, and beginnings. She is often seen as representing hope and the calms after the storm.

The Awe-Inspiring Appearance of Iris

The ancient Greeks often ranked Iris as one of their most attractive goddesses. The goddess Iris often takes the form of a rainbow or a lovely young woman with wings. Her wings are either depicted as being gold or irredescendent like a rainbow. Mythology says her wings were so brilliant and magnificent that they could illuminate even the deepest cave. Iris’s moods are said to be reflected in her hair color. Her hair is wavy, her eyes are a light purple color, and she wears rainbow earrings. Her ethereal beauty mesmerizes all who encounter her. Once upon a time, it was said that this rainbow incarnate connected the clouds to the ground below.

Greek art also often depicts Iris as a beautiful young woman with golden wings, a water pitcher (oinochoe) or a caduceus. The caduceus, which is a symbol of heralds and messengers. The caduceus is a winged staff with two snakes intertwined around it and is also associated with Hermes, the messenger god. Sometimes, she would serve nectar from her jug while standing next to Zeus or Hera in the artwork.

Abilities And Powers Of Iris

Iris is a radiant young goddess whose main power is that of flight. The goddess Iris’s speed is so phenomenal that she can quickly get from Olympus to Earth or even to Hades. The ancient Greeks called her “swift-footed,” which implies that she could act quickly in response to demands. To get about, it’s said Iris rides the rainbows while other stories say she leaves the rainbows behind as a trail from her wings or her rainbow iridescent coat you can see her sometimes wearing. It’s said her wings allow her to soar to any part of the cosmos, as well as reach the bottom of the deepest waters. She can also travel to the depths of the Underworld (hades) much more quickly than any other deity including Hermes.

Iris is known to be able to change shape to fit any situation or environment during her missions. She can become a mortal, animals or even objects. This skill helps her blend into her surroundings while fulfilling her role as a mediator. Iris also has a special talent; she can manipulate light and colors! Rainbows’ beauty comes from light’s bending and dispersion. Similarly, Iris can manipulate light with her powers. As the embodiment of rainbows, she can infuse them with energy and communicate through their hues. The rainbow arcs convey emotions that words cannot express. In addition to this, Iris also has the power to control the size and intensity of rainbows by altering the moisture in the air or the angle of sunlight.

Ways To Work With and Connect To Iris

Everyone’s relationship with deities is different and we all work with and believe in them differently. You might believe in multiple gods and goddesses and work with them each as though they are close, personal friends. Or maybe you believe the old gods are reflections of Universal energy and simply archetype energies that you can learn a lesson from. However you incorporate deities in your practice is up to you. If you need help to figure this out you can purchase my eBook here on the Introduction to working with pagan deities.

But here are some ideas to get you started on ways to work with Iris. Remember; it’s important to approach her with respect, reverence, gratitude and by building a relationship with her. Every time you work with a deity it is an even energetic exchange; which means what you put into your intention when working with them and building your relationship to them is what you get back.

Study, get to know her

As with every deity I have ever written about or taught about, The first way to get to know a deity, specifically a goddess like Iris is to study all you can about her. I’ll be honest finding information on her can be a little scarce but, you can start by going back to the mythology section of this blog and go read and the myths and stories she is in like; the Iliad and the story of the Trojan war. Learn about other deities she has close relationships to like Hera, Zeus, Persephone and her Husband Zephyrus. Learn about her sister the harpies. Study the culture, region, and worship of the people of Greece where she is from. The more you study and learn the better! When working with a deity it is all about building a true relationship with them and you do this first by getting to know who they are.

Connect with the Rainbow

Iris is the goddess of the rainbow and some even say the literal personification of the rainbow. So, what better way to work with her than to connect to the rainbow in your life and magical practices. There are so many ways to do this. You can add it to your life in your wardrobe with color magic, you can go cloud gazing, look for the rainbow after the rain, add the rainbow to your altar, smile and wave at rainbows, or use a hose to create one. You can also contemplate bridges between different aspects of life after it rains.

Communication Spells and Rituals

One of Iris’ key roles is to be the messenger of the gods and for the gods. This makes her one of the best if not the best deity to call on when you are doing any communication spells or rituals. She can help you in spells that have to do with creating clear communication, rekindling a lost friendship or relationship, sending messages to others, resolving conflict with another due to communication, and communicating your wishes and desires to another.

Be of Service to Others

Iris not only fills the role of the messenger but, if you look at many of the stories where you see her she is doing things in service to others. Iris really serves to embody the archetype of the servant within the greek gods. She steps up for the gods when there is chaos to serve them as a diplomat and keep peace. She serves both the gods and mortals facilitating messages between the two. And even after Hermes steps in as the primary messenger of the gods she continues to serve them on Mount Olympus serving them nectar, settling disputes, and serving as a handmaiden for Queen Hera especially. So, a great way to work with her and connect with her is by finding a way to be of service to others in your family, life, and community.

Dedicate Altar Space

Set aside some space in honor of Iris. This can be an elaborate large altar or as simple as a small shelf or corner of a counter. Place a representation of Iris there; be sure to cleanse the space before you invite her in. Include all of her colors, her symbols, and representations of rainbows and the sun, the clouds and any of her other correspondences you can use to connect to her. This will be a space that reminds you to connect with her and her energy. To bring you hope, and be a bridge to communicate with the gods.

Offerings

Everyone loves receiving gifts, and that includes deities like Iris. You don’t have to give her offerings every day, but when you feel it is appropriate. You can place these offerings at your altar or on a window sill in your home dedicated to her where light will be shining in. You can also give her offerings when performing any work to connect to her like meditation, prayer, and visualization.

The best offerings for Iris include:

  • Cheesecake
  • Dried figs
  • Honey cakes
  • Collected sea water or rainwater
  • Colorful art
  • Notes of positivity and hope
  • A rainbow suncatcher
  • Rainbow Quartz
  • Iris flowers
  • milk with cinnamon
  • prisms
  • Stained glass art

Use Rainbow Suncatchers

Find a rainbow suncatcher and hang it in a window today to let Iris’s light brighten your home and give you a reason to feel optimistic. Buy a second one to keep you energized all day long, so you can bring it with you or have it in your car.

Place a Rainbow Crystal in the Window

Iris is also known for her healing colors. Some say that you can bring Goddess Iris into your house by placing crystal in a kitchen window or one that catches the sun to cast an array of rainbow-tinted lights and spots in your house. It will be more potent and powerful if you use a crystal or stone that is iridescent or rainbow in colors. Like opal, rainbow quartz, moonstone, etc.

Plant or work with the flower Iris

The goddess would send messages from heaven to earth on the arc of a rainbow, and she was also know to be a companion to female souls on their way to heaven. Because of this, Greeks will plant purple irises on women’s graves to help guide them to their final resting place in heaven. So, why not go and do the same at your local cemetery or add some to your flower garden and yard today to connect with Iris.

Use a Mirror to Create a Rainbow and Mirror Magic

Use a mirror to create a rainbow in your home, your sacred container or at your altar. You can then use that rainbow and mirror as an anchor and intention amplifier in mirror magic for protection, manifestation, and amplification of all other spellwork. To learn how to do mirror magic and add it to your life and magical practices you can watch my previous class taught with Divination Academy here, and read about it in my guide here.

Call on Iris and The Rainbow For Abundance

It might seem like an unusual thing to call on Iris for abundance. I honestly haven’t found it anywhere else that others work with this energy with her. But, for me it seemed pretty obvious. Iris is the deity that personifies the rainbow which symbolizes hope and wishes coming true. What does that sound like to you? For me it sounds like another way to say abundance. Plus we have the legend of there being pots of gold aka wealth at the end of those rainbows she rides on as well. So, use her like I have when working with the energy of abundance by bringing in the wish fulfillment of the rainbow. To learn more about how to work with the energy and magic of abundance you can read my extensive guide here.

Meditation, visualization and Dream work

One of the best ways to channel divine energy and tap into goddesses like Iris is through meditation, visualization and dreaming. These practices allow you to open up and receive/ connect to divine energy in a very intuitive, clear, and transformative way. You will find a plethora of guided meditations on YouTube that will lead you to your spirit guide or god/goddess.. Try those if you have a hard time meditating on your own. I have many classes on youtube as well on previous deities you can watch where I even summon and guide you to them in sacred container. In addition, ask Iris to visit you in your dreams and teach you lessons that you currently need to learn. Then record every encounter with her in your journal, book of shadows, or grimoire.

Prayers

One very powerful way to connect to a deity is through prayer. Things to Pray for: your messages to be delivered, better communication, positive new endeavors, receiving messages, aided communications/messages to your deities, rain, luck, rainbows, safe travels on water or flight, hope, help with struggles.

Goddess Iris, messenger of the Gods and Goddesses, hear my prayer.
Grant me peace and harmony helping me cope with all that comes my way.
Give me patience and temperance in all things I do.

Goddess Iris hear my plea
Across the air
And through the sea.
I am in need of your sweet blessings,
Energies and healings bring to me.
Goddess Iris I give thanks to thee.
As I will it so it be.

Shadow work

Just like with every other deity I have ever written or taught about shadow work is a phenomenal way to connect to and work with the goddess Iris. When doing shadow work with her you are going to want to focus on topics like areas you need to feel more hope or things that have made you feel hopeful before. Other topics to focus on with your shadow work and her will revolve around communication. You can focus on topics like how to communicate better with others, your communication patterns, resolving conflicts, how others communicate with you and relationships in your life that may need to be mended. When working with Iris during shadow work she has this ability to open her iridescent wings and illuminate the caverns of your soul and show you things that may have not been able to glimmer and you notice before.

If you would like to learn more about shadow work you can purchase my eBook here;  you can book me for a 1:1 session as your guide here; and you can watch my free class previously taught on it through DiviNation here.

It is a time to honor new beginnings, and the turning over of a cycle. Think of these intentions as seeds you are planting for this lunar cycle to be ready to harvest by the full moon.

Use this time to rest, reflect, and plant what you will grow just as your ancestors across many cultures did while there was little light in the night sky for them to use. Each New Moon is unique, offering its own magic within each month.

Themes For The Taurus New Moon

Every New Moon contains its own themes, which are related to the sign that it falls under. This time, we experience the New Moon in the purposeful, prosperous, stable, relaxing, anchored, earth sign of Taurus the bull. Let’s explore some of the themes and energies of Taurus deeper below.

Taurus The Sign Calling You To Be Present

Taurus is a fixed sign. It roots into presence, and sustains what’s here and now. The Taurus New Moon is often a time to relax, indulge, and take it easy. No doubt life has been spinning SO fast around you recently? It’s because, we’re coming out of a high energy, intense, passionate period with the previous Moons, and this is now a time to pull back. We can take a break, chill out, and don’t want to fill up every moment of our lives with something to do. By standing still and taking time to rest during this New Moon, presence will form. And in that presence; you’ll find what matters and maybe even some answers to questions you have been pondering recently. Taurus has all the time in the world. Not to mention the tenacity to stick with the search to firstly find out the answers, and secondly, figure out how to bring them to life.

Taurus The Sign Of Money

Taurus has a reputation for abundance, in all its earthly delights. Taurus is a money ruler, so we can focus on opportunities to improve our financial situations and plan for the future. We can maximize resources we have, and get our hands on new resources. This can help improve stability and security in our lives, and as we improve stability and security, we can get more opportunities for money and resources.

Taurus The Time To Anchor

Taurus brings in the anchor of deep stability. This is the rock around which all the duality of life is spinning. Taurus as an archetype is earthy, fortified like a mountain, and all about the sensations of nature around us. It often asks us to connect to our bodies and to the tangible, material parts of our life experience. On our journey there, Taurus also asks us to backtrack. To go back to the foundation and core of who we are and the intentions we are setting. Before setting any intentions for change, this Moon wants us to first look to our core truths, values, and motivations. To make sure we are planting seeds of intentions we truly desire to be sown.

Taurus The Sign Of The Body

Taurus is a fixed earth sign because of this; it is one of the most body-centered (and centering) signs of the zodiac. When the New Moon is in the sign of Taurus we are reminded of the sacredness of our physical form. Taurus asks us to sit with ourselves fully. Not in an intellectual way, or spiritual way but, in a physical way. It asks us to take time to notice the breath entering our lungs, the beating of our hearts, the movement in our blood, the tension in our muscles, pressure on our bones, and sensations from our senses. When the moon is in Taurus, we are encouraged to revel in our physicalness and the pleasure of what we can experience with our sense of touch especially in the realm of sex. Taurus puts an emphasis on creature comforts reminding us to slow down, savor deeply, and reconnect with our physicality by simply enjoying life’s pleasures.

Taurus New Moon and Duality

Since, I am a grey witch every single energy I work with I look for the duality in that energy and how I can connect to it. This includes the new moon and the sign it currently is in. First, the new moon itself is all about duality and illuminating the night sky in both light and shadows. The new moon is all about rebirth, renewal, and the beginning of a new cycle, which puts you in a transitional liminal space and energy. In order for you to be in a space to begin again, to transition, and be reborn you had to just come from and ending and death. Second, the sign of Taurus while it may be all about abundance, security, stability, and going deep within to be rooted and anchored. That isn’t a light process, or an easy process. To truly fully receive abundance, and be rooted in our sacred contacts and soul purposes. To truly manifest all of our deepest desires, passions, and intentions; we have to face the depths of our pasts, who we really are, and where we have honestly been. In order to have the space and ability to receive it all and most importantly be willing to receive by knowing we are worthy and it is meant to be ours. Doing this opens you to a very liminal space steeped in duality for you to truly do the work needed to benefit from this new moon to its fullest potential.

What To Be Cautious Of This Taurus New Moon

Our confidence can be high with the Taurus New Moon if we feel secure and take it easy. If we don’t, we may become stubborn about something, and insecurity can lead to lashing out erratically. Be careful with being stubborn as well to not try and move immovable objects and start unneeded conflict. The other thing to be careful of with this moon; is the pull to rest, relax and go inward. It can be very potent and alluring. While taking to time rest and replenish our bodies is important don’t let it go so far you start to avoid responsibilities.

Root Meditation For Taurus New Moon

The purpose of this meditation is to help you feel grounded and stable to the earth, and who you are while also replenishing your energy and strength. It also creates a circular current of energy from the earth’s core, through your energetic body, and the celestial body the moon.

How to do:

Find a comfortable position to be in somewhere that you can be alone and be left uninterrupted for a small amount of time. If you want to do this outside under the moon or connecting to the earth you can as well!

Begin by taking four centering breaths in and continue to box breath:

How to box breathe:

Breathe in to the count of four (I measure my count with my heartbeat).
Hold your breath for four counts.
Breathe out for four counts.
Pause for four counts before taking another breath.
Repeat.
This breathing technique helps to quiet the mind and center your focus. I use this not only for meditation, guided work, and magical purposes but, for mental health coping skills as well!

Continuing to breathe gently into the softness of your belly, you are going to begin to visualize yourself within yourself. Visualize yourself pulling back from the edges of your body. Draw your consciousness inwards so that you feel yourself inside of your body as if it were a sacred container/ temple that you can draw back into. Feel yourself growing smaller in the powerful space of your body, drifting down into the sacred portal of energy in your belly, down into your pelvic space. The sacred portal of energy many know as the root chakra or the cauldron of warming.

Remaining within yourself, visualize a root extending from inner-you down deep into the earth. Breathe into this root as it extends downwards into the floor beneath you, and than into the soil. Feel as it expands and grows moving throwing the soil. Past roots of plants and other trees, past rocks, and decaying remains and debris, past critters, and creatures that wiggle in the dirt. You breathe in and on the exhale your root extends even further into the soil stretching as far as it can until you reach the burning hot, molten core at the center of the earth. And you feel the energy of the earth pulsating there ready for you to absorb.

With every out-breath your root extends and with every in-breath you pull up green energy through your roots back into inner-you from that molten hot core in the center of the earth pulsating in front of you. The green energy stretches up into all parts of inner-you until you are completely filled with it from your toes to fingertips to the very top of your head. The energy extends out of the crown of your head skywards in the form of branches, sprouting leaves, and maybe even blooming buds or fruit. With every out-breath your branches extend upwards and with every in-breath your branches pull celestial, lunar, and solar energy into inner-you. Let the currents of green and celestial energy mingle throughout your body creating a circle current from the celestial energy, through you, and into the core of the earth and back again.

When you feel sufficiently charged-up, begin to pull back your roots and branches until they have formed a small but powerful sphere of centered energy in the belly of inner-you. This is a continuous conductor of energy that you can connect to for abundance, growth, and the divine connection between you, the earth, and the celestial body the moon. You can go within yourself, to your sacred container/temple of your body, to access it at any time, including repeating this simple ritual to continue to revitalize your inner energy.

Whenever you are ready you can open your eyes and come fully back to your body by giving yourself a self-massage or squeezing your feet connecting to the energy current you just were connected too.

However you choose to connect to this new moon and work with its energy be prepared to experience the steadfast bull, and feel called to ground yourself in the realm of the earthly and tangible. Under the taurus new moon, your intentions will manifest through sensual delights, pragmatic actions, and diligent cultivation of resources over time. Listen to Taurus who is asking you to dig down to the bedrock of your life. To re-discover what’s lost, what’s buried, and what’s forgotten. And bring those submerged pieces back to life. Reminding you that when you are rooted to the earth you get to be truly who you are and manifest a life full of abundance and pleasure.
